So I've been doing some research and it appears that if I get a router that has PPoE and allows me to edit the VLAN settings to 201, then I can use my own router.
I'm thinking of getting the Nighthawk X6 AC3200 (R8000) router and here's a video on YouTube that talks about editing the VLAN settings ---> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8S8GFUeod0
With this information, does it look like I can use my own router then with Century Link's 1Gbps Internet?

[Qwest] Changing Download speeds
I'm sorry, the subject line may sound deceiving in a way since I'm not going to be asking how to change my speed, but I couldn't think of anything else off the top of my head to put in there.
Anyway, let me start:
Not quite a year ago I decided I wanted to upgrade to a higher tier speed, I was using the 1.5mbs Centurylink service, so I looked up on Centurylink's website for available speeds in my area. Checking it at the time I saw that I could get up to 7mbs, which isn't fast but for years I'd been stuck at 1.5 and told there were no higher speeds I could get. I jumped at this chance, called them up and talked to someone about upgrading, they confirmed the 7mbs was available and that they could upgrade me to which I gave them my permission. After confirming the order was put through they told me to wait 5 days, unplug my router at 5pm, leave it unplugged for 10 minutes then plug it back in. 5 days go by, I do this and see I went from 1.5 to 3. Since it was past 5pm I couldn't call them that day since I'd only get automated messages, so next morning I call Centurylink. I get put through to a tech, only to be told by him "There is no 7mbs service in your area. The fastest speed is 3mbs." I argued with them for about 10 minutes about this until finally giving up and they ended up giving me a discount on my phone bill for the next 6 months.
A few days later I went to download a playstation game and realized I was downloading faster than I had been for the previous few days. I opened my browser and checked my modem settings and noticed that I had gone from 3mbs to 5mbs. I went from August to early January with the 5m speed, then had some problems with random disconnects so called up Centurylink and they sent out a tech to check my lines. He promptly fixed it and left, but upon getting online noticed my speed had gone back down to 3m. I called Centurylink back and told them I was having problems with my speed, that it was slower than what it had been. They asked what my previous speed had been, I told them 5mbs, they looked into my records and told me that 3mbs was highest I could get in my area and that I may have been mistaken. After telling them I had the faster speed for nearly 5 months they continued to tell me I couldn't get higher than a 3mbs service in my area and that somehow I had to of mistaken something to think I was.
Again, a few days later. I started up Netflix to watch a series. While being at 3mbs I could only watch stuff in standard definition, but when I started watching I noticed it was in HD. I go to my pc, open broswer and see I had gone back up to 5mbs. It was like this until about June, when I noticed I had gone from 5 to 4, which I was a bit annoyed with, but not much as I could still watch HD on netflix and youtube without much problem. Now, within the last weeks my speed is now back at 3, which is very annoying since I'm back to standard def, and losing that 2 megs has added hours to downloading a game.
What I'm wondering, is there something on their end that's causing it? I just don't see how something on my end could be doing this. Also, is it actually possible that, if they wanted, they could offer a faster speed in my area than they say they can? For almost a year of getting 5mbs service, and having them telling me that its impossible and only 3mbs is all I can get, I feel like they're calling me a liar.

1000mb service questions - Wake Forest, NC
I'm moving into a house next month and according to the CL qualification page, the address qualifies for 1000mb service. I'm overjoyed at that. But that comes with some questions that perhaps someone here can answer. I am not really that familiar with the setup of the house since I haven't moved in yet. I know the current owner has coax running to where they have the home office.
How much lead time does CL need to get service installed by the time I move in? I was without internet for a week last week and since it was raining, I was bored to death without it.
Do they do the digging and burial of the cable? Do they mount the equipment on the outside of the house? Do they install it where you want it or where it can go? With their router, what protocols are the WiFi? How many wired ports are on it? Can I set DHCP reservations for my A/V equipment and computers that need it so my Roomie Remote will work? Can I use my own router if I desire? Do they still bundle with DirecTV? I don't want Prism because I don't like the DVR since it's like UVerse and you can't get rid of the standard def channels in the guide. If I am wrong about that, maybe I can be persuaded but I do prefer DirecTV.
I don't know much about this service, but I do know that I want the 1000mb speed and to say good riddance to Time Warner's latency.
TIA...I'll answer questions if there are any and if I can.

Centurylink light blinking on C1000A, will not boot
I just got home from vacation and I thought I had unplugged the modem before leaving but apparently not. Upon getting back home I noticed that the Centurylink light is blinking and no other lights are active.
I've tried power cycling the modem, resetting it, and also unplugging the wall adapter without success. We had some major storms this weekend, could this be from a power surge that fried the modem?
I can't find any information on just the Centurylink light blinking. Any ideas?

Re-negotiating expired Promo deal
A TalkToUs rep did me a huge favor a year ago and hooked me up with a promo deal for $39 / 10M DSL-only service, but he also told me I'd have to re-negotiate that price down the road. That road arrived with this month's bill: $70 for DSL only 10M service. Seems a little high considering I had 10M with a phone before the promo for less. I noticed offers (my area) for less online, but they're bundles and look to include the phone line. What's the best tact to take when calling someone at CL to get the deal I just lost? The TalkToUs folks apparently aren't talking.
TIA

[Qwest] CenturyLink IPV6rd & SoHo router?
Good afternoon all! I recently picked up a Mikrotik router and I absolutely love it. The problem I have is that there is no 'support' for IPv6rd and they have no plans to implement it. Asking their support, they feel like the device could accomplish rd, but no information on the process was given. I guess what I have are a few questions....
* Anyone have any luck configuring a Mikrotik router with CenturyLink 6rd while in bridged mode?
* Any other recommendations for a good SoHo router that support 6rd from Centurylink? (needs snmp, firewall, gige, dhcp, nat & port fowarding support).
Thanks in advance!

Where to get info on upgrades
Is there any way to find out if any upgrades are planned in the area where I live. I have contacted the the normal phone numbers and for the most part those folks do good to come to work.

Gigabit fiber + Prism TV = slow Internet
I just had gigabit fiber (advertised at 1,000 Mbps on every part of the ordering site and in the order confirmation email CenturyLink sent me) installed in my home in central Denver, CO.
I have fiber into the ONT and then Cat5 from there to an Actiontec c2000t. I got the Prism TV service (cheapest package) because the bundle was cheaper than standalone gigabit Internet service.
After installation, I checked the modem admin tool and saw that it was connected at 1,000 Mbps down / 1,000 Mbps up. I then connected my laptop directly to one of the Actiontec's LAN ports and ran CenturyLink's own speed test tool. 40 Mbps down / 5 Mbps up. WTF?
I called tech support and was told by 3 different techs that my Internet connection was this slow because of the bandwidth reserved for the IPTV service. After patiently explaining that that is B.S. because there is no way the TV service needs 960 Mbps down and 995 Mbps up (modulo overhead, of course), they are sending a tech to my house. I know the TV service will take *some* of the 1,000 Mbps bandwidth, but this is insane.
I'm *really* hoping that this is just a mistake and confusion about what is a relatively new service for the CenturyLink techs to support.
I'll keep this thread updated with how it plays out, but I'm curious if anyone else has run into this or a similar issue?
Is there a way to access my full bandwidth in the meantime, even if it disables my Prism TV? The router is connecting via IPoE instead of PPPoE (I gather that that is what you see with IPTV). Can I get my PPPoE credentials from the modem and connect with that instead? Guess I'll give it a try.
Anyway, if you have "gigabit" FTTH from CenturyLink w/ Prism TV, run a speed test to make sure you're getting what you're paying for!

Normal latency for CentuyLink ?
Recently acquired CenturyLink 1.5/.8 connection as it's the only thing offered in my area that isn't a satellite connection. I live in Spokane, WA and average 60-70ms latency to servers under 5 hours away from me in Seattle, WA and 100+ ms to California. Anything in the Midwest is 120+ and East coast is 150+ I have always had high bandwidth cable in the past, and could almost always connect to servers cross country with sub-100ms latency. Just wondering if this is normal for a DSL connection?

Looking to get a second DSL/Phone line installed...
and basically I was wondering if anybody has done it and how much it costs?
Was told over the phone that the residence already has 2 lines, but the tech came out today and said that wasn't the case, and that he would need to do another drop to get a second line in.
Any thoughts? thanks!

[CenturyTel] Low Speeds & Frequent Disconnects
Can anyone explain why I am getting such low speeds & frequent disconnects? I have to unplug the modem 10-15 times per day and service keeps saying "limited". It's not my wiring.
Brand new service (new modem 6.06.15), my laptop is less than a year old & no problems when I was on Xfinity 6/2015 at my previous residence.
My Iconia is also new & keeps saying "Authorization Problem" trying to connect to wifi. It's not an incorrectly typed password. My wifi router is visible in the connection thing.
There is a CenturyLink Service Facility right down the road from me (less than 1/2 mile), should I be getting such low speeds with a facility so close?
I'm supposed to be getting 10 mbps and about to cancel my service & go with someone else the service is so bad.

Has anyone gotten Century Link 1Gig in Las Vegas?
I found a flier on my door about a month ago stating they were going to install the new service in my neighborhood. There were 2 fliers, one for the internet service with Century Link, and one from Ericsson stating that they were going to be doing some work in the front of my house. They've already completed the work, but Century Link isn't offering the service. Anyone else had a similar situation? If so, how long did it take from the service to become active after they added the lines to the road?

Frequent slow download speed - north Denver region
I have been using CenturyLink for the past 8 years without a problem. For the past 2 months, my download speed frequently goes down to 1 mbps (I have a 40 mbps plan). My modem (c1000a) says that the DSL is connected at 40/5 speed. I spent an hour with tech support and couldn't resolve the issue. In their tests my line is clear and they suggested many things like clearing browser cache, changing modem etc. I tried with my old qwest q1000 modem and the result is the same. Clearing cache didn't help. How do I get CenturyLink to seriously look into this issue ?

1Gig Install on Friday 17-JUL-2015 in Minneapolis
Greetings-
I am switching to CenturyTel 1Gig service on Friday 17-JUL-2015. I am a bit concerned because I live in an apartment building in Minneapolis. I am concerned that CenturyTel will actually be able to supply my with the proper bandwidth and connection. Can anyone in a similar situation let me know what to expect? Thank you!

[CenturyTel] CenturyTel POP Email Not Working
POP email (pop.centurytel.net) worked this morning, but this afternoon I get an internal server error when I try to check my mail; webmail works OK. I have tried switching from SSL to an insecure connection, but that did not help. I am using Thunderbird 31.7.0 on Windows 7.

Not getting advertised speeds
So I had my GPON turned up.
Tech showed up gave me my user name and password.
Plugged it into the router connected via ONT.
Tagged for Vlan 201. I was up and running within 30 seconds. I checked the wan ports connection and it's connected to ONT at a Gigabit full duplex.
Setup IPV6RD on ASUS RT-AC66R on Merlin.
Do a download test on DSL reports, speed test, and Cox.
All report back 9 megs down, 5 megs up. WTF!
Latency was from 100ms to 300 ms, depending on the server.
Called up technical support. They say everything looks ok. (technically everything is for the most part. They are saying they cant find an issue, but there is one as I am only getting 10 up. Anyone have any idea?

[Prism TV] Prism TV with Internet
I've been searching online for people who have Prism TV and there's not a lot of information about the service other than marketing from CenturyLink.
Anyone who uses the service have any information on how the service works compared to Cable TV?
I know it's IP based and similar to Uverse. The question I have is does this service use your Internet speed when watching/recording TV and how is the picture quality compare to Cox Cable?
If I get 40 Mbs and I watch TV while recording a show does that slow my speed down until I'm not using those services?
The reason is that CenturyLink offers their Prism TV and Internet service cheaper bundled together rather than just getting Internet service alone.
My place only offers 40 Mbs, 100 Mbs and 1 Gbs service.
The place lists fiber optic data service and just opened last month so it's a new complex.
Any information would be good to know. Thanks.

Century Link Newbie question re: Fiber
Just switched to CL fiber service for internet. First off, it's great!! One oddity: Upon install, the tech told me that only port 1 (of 4) on the fiber ONT would be active. I asked him why and he really did not have an answer. Is there a way around this? Any info would be appreciated.

[Prism TV] TV passes in Seattle; static IP subscribers can't get it?
Today, the Seattle City Council passed the franchise agreement with CenturyLink so Prism TV will be available "fairly soon" to fiber subscribers, of which I am one.
However, I have read elsewhere and was told by a CenturyLink-employed person that having static IP service prevents subscribing to Prism. Anybody here know if that's accurate or why that might be?

New CL DSL (8M) in NE Tennessee with latency/packetloss
Got CL DSL setup just outside of Bristol TN last month. Originally was told I could only get 3Meg, so got it. Been slowish, but steady (streaming netflix mostly) last month.
A week ago it got to be unusable. I upgraded to 8Meg to see if it would help with the streaming, but it didn't (was out of town so couldn't troubleshoot myself).
Anyway, now that I'm at my house I'm getting 3.4Meg tops. Up to 30% packtloss to my first CL hop (if I reboot router, I get as low as 5% for a few hours before it creeps up).
Also, I'm seeing more CRC errors than packets (downstream) at times?! And at best I"m seeing about 25% CRC to total packet ratio.
Using Pingplotter for my ping/traces, and the modem gui for my CRC and to reboot device.
Anyone with experience with CL DSL in this area? Supposedly another company has cable internet to my house, but I've had bad experience with them in the past. However, it can't be as bad as what I have now with CL.
