Ever since I replaced my old modem Zyxel 660r with this Actiontec PK5001a, my internet speeds has been rubber banding A LOT!!!
Can any one say this is a good router or is it my service line?

PrismTV - RF Remotes
I've had PrismTV for about a month. One of the disappointing things was that RF remotes were not included with the receivers. I figured one main reason to have a wireless set-top box would be to hide it behind the TV; thus, needing a RF remote to control it. The day after I got it installed, I stopped by a local CTL store to buy some RF remotes. The salesperson was also generous to give me a buy-2-get-1-free discount. I've tried many times to pair them up with the DVR and wireless boxes with minor success. I was able to pair it on a wireless box, but the pairing failed after a few days, and I haven't been able to pair it again since.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks that might help to get the RF pairing to work? The DVR is inside a media cabinet, so it's rather annoying to have to keep the cabinet door open to watch TV.
DVR: IPH8005
Wireless boxes: ISB7005
Thanks in advance.

Gigabit Bait-and-Switch
CenturyLink has been advertising "1 Gig" Internet speeds in Portland, and after several months of CL work done in my neighbourhood, I contacted them to see if I could get service where I live. The rep told me that yes, I could get gigabit speeds, and we went through the entire process of selecting service, modem rental, and choosing an installation date. Then when it was time for the order summary before committing, I was told that I would be getting 100Mbps speeds at a price of $121.99/mo. I told the rep once again that I would like 1Gbps speeds, but she apologised and told me that it actually was not available, and that 100Mbps was the most she could offer me. At that point since Comcast offers 105Mb for cheaper, I told her I was no longer interested, but she tried (unsuccessfully) all sorts of ways to get me to sign up for their service.
I know they use wording like "up to" in their advertising, but I'm starting to wonder how many people can actually get gigabit speeds around here versus the slower speeds I was quoted. I'm also curious as to whether CenturyLink actually built out their network to support gigabit speeds in the future, or if they did the bare minimum on a couple of streets so they could say they offer it...

Denver gigabit users?
Hello all,
Wondering if any Denver-area users could comment on their experiences so far with the new gigabit package? Download/ upload speeds? How has service uptime been?
Do they actually run new fiber to your house or does the service utilize existing copper?
Thanks!

Looking to replace my old Qwest Motorola 3347
First post here.
I'm looking to replace my old Qwest Motorola 3347. I'm looking at the C1000, PK5001, or Q1000, both Actiontec and ZyXel brands.
I only have the 7Mb/s service and I really only need about 3Mb/s.
I may decide to use a separate wifi router as well so I'd want a modem that works well in bridge mode. And I'd prefer something on the Centurylink supported modem list.
Any recommendations? I could search through thousands of posts, but maybe you can help.

Modem Suggestion
Hi,
I just got centurylink service this past Friday. I'm looking for suggestion for a good modem. I have 40Mbps line so I'm assuming its going to be a VDSL2. I went through many threads on this forum and unfortunately the suggestions people make for modems are models that are hard to find on the market. I would really appreciate if someone can suggest a good modem that is currently available on the market. My budget for the modem is $100. I also have a cable modem with built in wireless and router (motorola). Would it be possible to use it with the new modem in bridge mode?
Also anybody used Zhone (Zhone 6712-W1 VDSL2/ADSL2+ 4-Port Gateway [6712-W1-NA] ).
I would really appreciate any help. Thank you.

[CenturyTel] Centurylink Actiontec PK5001a BRIDGING?
How do I bridge this modem/router? Actiontec PK5001A
The instructions on Centurylink site says to "transparent bridge"? Is that what I need to do?
I used to have a Zyxel 660R that I bridged and just used my router.
I am trying to figure out what or why my connection speed is up and down.
I called tech support twice. EVERY TIME I get/have them on the phone, the internet is NORMAL. But I have proof that it drops to 6mB download speed. I pay for 10mB.
I want to try my router and see if it helps or the same.
Thanks for any help.

Upgrade and "Promotional pricing applied"
I was looking at my account and the website says I can upgrade from 7mbps to 12mbps, so I checked it out. Right now I'm paying $47 (+ .99 scam fee) for my 7mbps service that's really 9mbps. The quoted price to upgrade to the 12mbps service is.........$47! (I would think the same scam fee applied but who knows with CL.) I do see that it also says "Promotional pricing applied", but there's no indication at all what that translates to in English. How long does that price apply for? Does the price go up after x months? What's the deal? If it sounds too good to be true it probably is. There should be something somewhere that actually spells this out but I can't find it. Ideas?

Congestion/bad maintenance changes in Kansas City region...?
Third night like this, noticed this after their maintenance for Gardner, KS completed (Tickets 85656 and 83949).
Unable to play games without extensive rubber banding/warping, playing video media from YouTube and TwitchTV is a no go, even for 360p during the hours of 4pm to 10.45pm - continuously buffering out. I checked my router, no saturation of the line for upload or download.
So, before i go posting more/full traceroutes and pings which are to and from my server, and traces to websites that I commonly visit... anyone else in this area having noticeable slowdowns/high latency?
Some snippets of the routing ping spike...

Again, this all began right after the CenturyLink maintenance window ended for the aforementioned tickets. Sure, it may be 50ms, but that 50ms has also completely crippled YouTube watching, can't watch TwitchTV as well. :(

Net gear DM111PSPv2 modem (only) won't connect to internet
Recently purchased net gear (modem only) for my new century link service, as I already had a wireless router. I got all the info I needed, static IP address, VPI, VCI, etc. all my modem led's come on solid green, except for the Internet led which remains red.
I used the install cd, I went to www.routerlogin.net, hasn't worked. Can anyone explain this to me in laymans terms? I have spoken to both century link and net gear. Century link tells me to call netgear, netgear tells me to call netgear.
Thank you.

[Qwest] Zyxel Q1000Z with ADSL/ADSL2, not working
Helping out a friend who has a Actiontec PK5000 (Qwest logo) used on a 5 / 0.896 Mbps line.
Setup for PPPoE with a qwest username/password. In an ex-Qwest area.
I bought a used Zyxel Q1000Z from ebay so that they could use 802.11n in their house for internal devices. I didn't want to complicate things for them (me) by having a better stand alone 2nd router in bridging mode.
No matter what I try, multiple resets via the web option or the reset button in the back, the modem can not be made to detect a DSL line.
The DSL light flashes green every few seconds but the web page shows a red DSL and of course a red internet connection. The WAN status page shows no numbers for line info, lots of N/As.
This table here: http://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/modem-compatibility-table-q.html does list the Q1000Z as being ADSL/ADSL2 compatible.
At my home I have bonded VDSL and tried connecting this modem on a single line, and I get the same problem, the DSL light never goes solid green. I don't know if this is because I have a different VDSL setting that could stop this working at all, I have been told that if one of my lines is down, the internet would not work at all with my C2000T.
I thought maybe I got a bad Q1000Z, so I got another one. Same issue.
I wouldn't think that I would have to tell CL that I'm switching a modem.
They both have the latest firmware available.
Any ideas? Does the model take longer than a few minutes to detect a ADSL line?

[Qwest] Zyxel Q1000Z, setting 40 Mhz 802.11n channel width, how to?
I can't find a setting in the Zyxel Q1000Z on how to configure it for 40 Mhz 802.11n channel width, I read how this setting might have been removed.
Is it still there? What is the setting called?
I have tried all 802.11n modes, 'n only', auto streams, etc.
The person I'm helping lives where there are zero other people around so 40 Mhz should be good to use. I use 40 Mhz at my home with no problems, also near no one else with a different modem.

Odor Coming Frpm New CenturyLink Modem
We were having occasional connection problems so CenturyLink dispatched a technician to check the line and also install their latest modem/router which we are renting rather than purchasing. I believe the model number is: C1000A. The new modem case is plastic and has the name CenturyLink on the top whereas our old modem had a metal top and the name Quest on it which is the company purchased by CenturyLink in this area a few years ago. Unlike our old router the new one does not have antenna. Everything works fine except that the new router (which is plugged in all the time) has a definite plastic odor which is very noticeable if you are within 10 or 12 feet of it in our living room. Is this normal? Do all the newer CenturyLink modems have this smell and if so does it eventually go away? Is it something I should be concerned about as regards the modem overheating? Are there health issues that may be present from our breathing the vapors whenever we are in the living room? Or is it perfectly safe and should I not be at all concerned? I would rather not have to have the modem replaced again if I do not have to. Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Logging in to pay my bill pulls up somebody elses account.
Back in August I had transferred my DSL service to GPON service when we moved into our new home. Sense then I have not been able to log into my account successfully and several calls later century link has continued to not fix the issue. I have been transferred to several CSR's and teams but no one is able to fix this issue. It's also a concern because I can pull up the previous customers information to include payment, credit cards and previous address. If I wanted to I could go on a shopping spree right now with someone else's info, but I am not like that and good karma is what I am after.
What is going on is my user name pulls up the right account number but the last three after the telephone number is different. It pulls up who ever had that number last. I don't know where to turn to because no one at century link seems to know how to fix this issue. It's extremely frustrating and I am about to cancel service over this even though I am in a contract. I cant even pay my bill online and have to call in to do so which is a major inconvenience. I am even considering contacting the person who's account info shows up under my log in to say hello, but your information has been put out there by century link! It's insane that this is even happening. This is making me really consider my business relationship with Century link because if they are putting this persons info out there what are they doing with mine? If anyone knows who I can talk to please PM me.

[Embarq] Slow download
When I open my Embarqmail box I have to wait almost a minute or more each time for the incoming mail to download. Yet, I can open my hotmail and google accounts immediately when I log on. I am wondering if maybe I should change to another server since this site is becoming troublesome. What the heck is going on?
Even my spell check, although ok if I am creating a mail, fades out if I reply to another email and I have to copy and paste from Embarq and use Google spell check to confirm spelling. This is not a one day issue but has been ongoing for almost a week for the former and months with the latter.
This spell check works fine, wish it were on the Embarq site.

Centurylink Internet speeds and PrismTV
Greetings all and thanks for reading.
I am a relatively new CenturyLink customer and have purchased Phone, Internet and TV. (Prism) I was told that 10MB is the fastest you can get for Internet when you also have Prism so i thought i would be able to handle it. However 10MB is not all that common of a speed i am seeing. I wanted to increase it but was told i could not in residential services. I talked with 3 people on the business side each of which gave me different answers as to what is possible as well as the cost for it. I work from home so speed and quality are vitally important. Ideally i would like to sign up for Business Internet, I was told that if i run another dedicated line just for this business internet that i could get much faster speeds, then i was told that this would only cost about $25 more per month. But when i tried so sign up for it they told me i could not do that. It does make sense that if you run a dedicated line for just business and it is not on the same bonded line for TV that it should work just fine. As I said i was originally told this would be fine but then told it was not. Does anyone have any insight into this and or does anyone do this?
Thanks
Chris
