I work in IT at a hospital and am in charge of the phone system. I tried for months to order services through CenturyLink we have DSS now but I can never get a hold of my account reps. I have a sheet on my wall with 7 different people that is a few months old I cannot ever get a hold of anyone on that account manager sheet. We cannot get PRI services only DSS or SIP I wanted to buy SIP trunks for the hospital to get caller ID in and out.

[CenturyTel] Gig Fiber

Anyone with Gig fiber or even the 100mbps fiber offering still experience issues with Youtube, Netflix, etc. in the evenings? Interested in the fiber offerings in Columbia/Jeff City, MO (they're available for sure at my address) but have been burned with with my current 20/2 VDSL with absolutely terrible performance in the evenings and weekends that seems to be a bandwidth issue on their end. Would love to hear from someone who actually has that service about their experiences so far. Anyone have it bundled with PrismTV? I'm assuming you are still required to use their provided CPE when bundling prism with fiber services?

Hello. I am in an apartment and I just ordered the business class service. Has anyone used the business class service? How is the tech and customer support? Are there no more cap calls? Basically, I am wanting to HD and game/download my heart's content without worry. What are the experiences? Thanks, Jon

Modem power cord adaptor output & Setup Wizard question

I have a rented C1000a actiontec modem I will be returning and one I just got on ebay which is the same model modem. I notice the one on ebay came with a different power adaptor that obviously was not made for the modem. The power adaptor for that one reads 12V --- 2A while the power adaptor from the one I rented which has actiontec branded on it shows 12V---1.5A. Can I still use the power adaptor with the higher voltage or should I find one that is 1.5V? Sorry if this is a dumb question, I don't know anything about electricity other than it is better to be safe than sorry. I don't want the modem to be messed up or burned out because it is receiving the incorrect amps or voltage. Also, how do you activate the setup wizard? I reset the modem to factory default state and restored ppp login but the activation wizard never started. I don't know my ppp password so I was hoping the wizard would start and get that for me like last time. Thanks

How do I setup QoS with an Actiontec C1000A Modem/Router

I have a 1.5/1 CenturyLink DSL connection (the best internet offered in my area) and I get a lot of latency spikes while trying to game so I wanted to try to setup QoS to see if that would help. I've done it with Cable and Linksys routers in the past, but the way it's done in this DSL modem has me extremely confused, any input would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to set it up for DOTA 2 with UDP ports 27005 through 28999. What is DSCP classification and which option should I select? Queue priority I'm assuming should be set to high Source IP and Destination IP information, not sure what to put here. I know one I need to define as my IP and one I need to put the game ports in, but not sure what ports and IP to put for the other two or for netmasks. Thanks again for any help!

So for the past 17 days, I was unable to get much or any service from Centurylink(10mbs). Every time I browse or play an online game, in about 1min my connection totally dc, drops, and times out(20mins was the longest I used it for). It's very annoying and can't get work done without it. The tech team that came to are home was very helpful and nice, but couldn't find out the problem. They replaced my router, checked wires, and they were going to move the router to a different phone line. Anyways I live around UNLV. This problem started on the 30th of November. I'm guessing there trying to update there stuff for prism or something causing dramatic drops.

[CenturyTel] Can I get my TP-Link TD-W8960N to run at 7Mb/sec with CenturyLink?

$

I've owned a TP-Link TD-W8960N DSL modem for 3 months. When I purchased this modem, I subscribed to CenturyLink 5Mb/sec ADSL service, here in Fort Lupton, CO. During the initial modem configuration, CenturyLink DSL support recommended that I use these settings: VPI: 0 VCI: 32 WAN Link Type: PPPoA (PPP over ATM) After I configured these settings, the modem ran flawlessly at 5Mb/sec downstream and 896Kb/sec upstream for 2 months! Since this modem was working well, a month ago I upgraded to CenturyLink's 7Mb/sec ADSL service. However, I've been experiencing fluctuating downstream speeds and I had the full 7168Kb/sec downstream speed for only 1 day! I called CenturyLink DSL support a second time, but I was told that I'm using an unsupported modem and that it's necessary for me to demonstrate that the problem occurs with a modem that CenturyLink supports! So I bought a CenturyLink-branded Actiontec C1000A and it is slower than the TP-Link modem! This was enough to convince CenturyLink to send a technician to my house. She measured the speed at the telephone network interface box, outside of my house, and reported that it's 7Mb/sec. I believe that this is correct because I've seen the TP-Link modem connect at this speed! Next, I created a support ticket with TP-Link tech support. They asked me to take a screen shot of the xDSL statistics modem web page and to take some measurements with their BRCM DSL diagnostics tool. TP-Link's verdict is that a device in my network is interfering with the modem. However, the only other devices on the phone line are my cordless telephone system base station and my satellite TV receiver, both of which are DSL-filtered! I've tried disconnecting the satellite TV receiver from the phone line, but this doesn't help. Note that it was connected to the phone line during the day that I had the 7168Kb/sec downstream speed. My network is wired with both Cat3 and Cat5e cables. The original wiring is Cat3 and I added a Cat5e line that runs from the telephone network interface box to my study and it terminates at an Ethernet jack. The Ethernet jack is wired for a RJ-11 plug and I've got Cat5e crossover cables to connect the Ethernet jack to a surge protector and then to my PC. Therefore, my DSL connection is running with Cat5e cables end-to-end, but the Cat5e line is also connected to the Cat3 wiring. The only device on the Cat3 side is my satellite TV receiver. I've tried connecting the DSL modem directly to the Ethernet jack and I disconnected the satellite TV receiver, but this didn't help my DSL modem connect any faster! Here are some statistics from the xDSL web screen (Second Column: Downstream; Third Column: Upstream) SNR Margin (0.1 dB): 106 140 Attenuation (0.1 dB): 385 240 Output Power (0.1 dBm): 201 123 Attainable Rate (Kbps): 7520 1216 I believe that a firmware configuration change is needed to get my TD-W8960N to work reliably with this faster DSL connection. Can anybody help me? Thanks! 10/8/2014 Update: Since 2:45 AM this morning (now it's 4:30 PM) my DSL connection is maxed-out at 7168Kb/sec downstream and 896Kb/sec upstream! Here's how this happened: 1) I logged-into the modem GUI and viewed the Device Info web page. 2) I disconnected the phone line from the modem and waited for this web page to show that the connection dropped. Note that sometimes the web page goes blank, instead. 3) I reconnected the phone line to the modem and waited for the firmware to restart the connection. Although today I got this speed on the first attempt, usually it takes several tries to get a fast speed and it's rare to get the speed I am today! This solution only works early in the morning when there are few people in my area online! In light of this, how can there be a problem with one of my DSL filters?

Internet Cost Recovery Fee

I agreed to a promotional $15/mo Internet service with of 19.95 setup fee conveyed entirely through text messages with a CenturyLink agent- I was not notified of any other fees. First notification was on the e-bill after I had set up an account. In 2013, looks like the 'Communications and Technology Subcommittee' (of the U.S. Congress) had looked into the practice of charging a "recovery fee" among other shady practices: http://eshoo.house.gov/press-releases/members-seek-answers-from-leading-us-communications-companies-on-billing-practices/ I have been unable to find any public responses by those companies to the subcommittee. This document was very insightful for why no class action suit can occur, and it specifically mentions CenturyLink. Read the introduction and section III: http://apps.fcc.gov/ecfs/document/view?id=7521350659 This document mentions the subcommittee in 2014 sending a letter to the FCC about this. I have been unable to find the response. This document explains why I've seen so many arbitration clauses in legal agreements lately! As mentioned in the document above, CenturyLink's arbitration clause prevents anyone from filing a class action suit, it appears only the FCC or congress can prevent this illegal practice. Has anyone had success in a complaint to the FCC or CenturyLink over this? Most posts I've read in the forum said their complaints to CenturyLink were unsuccessful. The view of Karl Bode on this fee was quite interesting: http://www.dslreports.com/shownews/Why-You-Cant-Take-the-FCCs-ISP-Transparency-Pledge-Seriously-129808 Has anyone complained to the FCC, citing the Transparency Rule (47 C.F.R. §8.3 http://www.law.cornell.edu/cfr/text/47/8.3 )? Further, had anyone sued the FCC into action for not enforcing that rule? Your thoughts are welcome!

A second DSL Modem/Account

I live in a rural area. Only a 1.5mb/.256 speed is available to this house with no other internet options other than satellite. That is the same speed the last 10 years, i call a couple times a year and they always so no upgrades. doesnt suprise me as the population around me hasnt changed much, lots of farmers. I get good speeds but with a housefull of phones tablets and laptops its hard to use the internet with everyone elses devices. I was wondering if another DSL account/modem is possible. I imagine another phone line would be needed although i dont know that ones exist in this house... the house itself is 10 years old.

Tech tested my line but customer service will not let me upgrade.

I just had Centurylink DSL+home phone installed at my house. I must say this was one of the worst ordering processes I have ever been through. They kept losing my order, couldn't figure out how to port my old number, etc. I spent a total of about 2 hours (over two days) on the phone until my order was actually in the system. I felt a little bit like Tom Cruise in the movie edge of tomorrow. Each time I called I was able to use whatever I learned from the last failed call to get me a little further through the system. After 6 calls my order was finally placed! Anyway I finally got it installed and everything is working. I am signed up at 12Mbit/s. I know that my next door neighbor has 20Mbit/s service, so I asked the installation tech to test my line. He said that the line passed at 20Mbit and should work fine. I called customer service to upgrade and have been told that their computer system will not let me upgrade. It shows 12M as being the highest rate available at my address. I chatted with tech support and they told me the same thing and said that the tech who tested my line was the only person in the whole company that could place the order for the upgrade. (really?) Only problem is that I didn't get his contact info. So my questions are: 1. Am i being stupid by pressing this issue? Is the reason that they won't let me upgrade is that the performance will be marginal and I will not get anywhere near 20Mbit? The cost difference is only $5/mo so it would probably be worth it even for a modest increase. 2. What are the magic words I need to say to get them to upgrade me to 20M? I thought saying that my line had already been testing would work, but that was no help. Do I need to ask them to send a truck and retest my line? Thanks for your help.

CenturyLink C100A Modem in Bridge Mode

Hi, I've been on CL for seven months now. About a month after getting CL, I bought a Netgear R7000 router. I put the modem in to bridge mode, and attached a USB network adapter, so that I could get into the modem and see stats. It's worked fine for the last six months. Today I was having some internet issues, so I rebooted the modem and router. Since that time, I have not been able to get back in to the modem, and I have no idea why. I changed absolutely nothing in either the modem or the router. I just unplugged both of the devices and then plugged them back in. Windows shows the adapter in network connections, but the stats say No Internet Access and No Network Access. I have a static connection set up on the USB network adapter: IP Address: 192.18.0.5 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 I can ping 192.168.0.1, and get results. But when I try and go in to the modem through the browser, I get nothing. I tried Windows network troubleshooting, and it gave me nothing useful. I'm not sure what else I can do. I also rebooted the workstation on the off chance that it might fix something. It did not. Any ideas on how this might be fixed? I just want to restate that I really did change nothing at all about the set up. It's exactly the same as it was before I rebooted. Thanks

SNR went through the floor, urgent, anything I can do?

Sometime in the past few days, my SNR went through the floor, down to about 6.2 both downstream and upstream. Nothing changed, it just went kaput. This has taken my 40/5 connection down to about 4/3, sometimes worse. I've been through all their suggestions. Different cables, modem resets, different phone jacks, and nothing. The 'best' the SNR can do is 6.2 down, 9.4 up. Which doesn't help the speed issues/intermittent dropouts at all. Tomorrow, I'm supposed to be doing Extra Life, a 24-hour gaming marathon for charity, and streaming it online. Obviously without a working internet connection, that can't really happen... The earliest appointment they had was Tuesday. They said they've pulled me to the front of the line for any cancellations or free technicians, but I'm not optimistic... Is there anything I can do myself to try and fix this? Would a different modem help? Any sort of filter or amplifier I can use? Any magic keyphrase I can tell a support person to get someone out my way? I'm desperate... Thanks

My modem is showing someone else's PPP login

I bought a modem off ebay and plugged it in and it worked. I realized now I am suppose to put in my own PPP login info. Someone else's PPP information is already entered. Oddly enough, I reset the PPP login, it went to a generic centurylink login name. Then I restored the modem to factory setting and the guys login info came back. What is the purpose of the PPP login? Also is it possible I am I getting faster internet with their login? I ask because I am paying for 12meg and the modem shows 15.8megs. Wondering if the login has anything to do with it. Thanks.

My long, painful experience with CenturyLink combined billing.

In November of last year, I signed-up for CenturyLink DSL with a one year contract. I had just moved and there were no other decent options where I lived other than their 7m plan. A month later, they offered upgrades to 40/5 and I excitedly called to order it. The CSR gave me the spiel about combining services and since my cell contract was up I was already considering switching to Verizon. The combined Verizon/Centurylink services with a $10 monthly discount made sense to me. The bill came the following month and there were no Verizon charges on it. Just the internet fees. I logged into my Verizon account and sure enough, the charges were there directly without the $10 discount since that's on CenturyLink's end. Looking at the details of the charges, they had become un-bundled when Verizon sent them to CenturyLink. The problem was on CL's end. Their system was kicking it back out to Verizon - something Verizon support confirmed to me. I called CenturyLink customer support. Got the apologies, 'we'll fix it and adjust your next month's bill with the missing discount." Great. No problem. All is well. Well, it happened again the next month. Same routine. Manual bill credit on my internet charges to reflect the missing discount, 'it will be fixed next month.' This went on EVERY month. And to make it worse, when the un-bundling happened it was AFTER Verizon's due date so I had to call them to explain what was happening, please don't file it as late payments - I had no way of paying you if I wanted to. Verizon's system won't let you pay them until after the un-bundling occurred. I lost track of how many different people I talked to at CenturyLink. Finally, about 4 months ago I talked to a superior who seemed like she had actual interest in fixing it. She was going to contact someone who was in charge of their database system and research why CL's billing was rejecting the transfer from Verizon. Two billing cycles went by and no cell charges show up on either end. Then FINALLY two bill cycles with Verizon charges are on my CL statement. But no discounts. Again. Called CL, had to explain everything again to the CSR since they aren't keeping detailed notes for following calls. Each time the CSR's sound more embarrassed because they know what a mess this is. But nobody seems to be able to fix it. Talked to another manager. She apologized and said she would give me an extra $10 monthly discount on top of the one that's already in the contract. I was relieved that someone made an effort to understand how much time I've had to put in every month with this. $40 was credited immediately to the current bill to cover the missing discounts on the two previous billing cycles and the current one. Last month it happened again. Called again. I was angry this time. The first-line CSR told me it wasn't the same issue I had been having - their system had a different glitch this month and many customers did not get their combined discounts. It will be fixed next month and I should see $40 off my bill. The bill came this morning. Guess what? And they don't have billing support on weekends so I have to stew about it a couple more days. Honestly, I want no part of this company anymore. I'm willing to step-down to slower internet with another company. I just don't know if I'm locked into their services since it's bundled. I'd be fine at this point paying Verizon directly without the discounts. I just don't want to keep going with CenturyLink like this. I'm worn out.

[Prism TV] Curious About Prism

$

We currently have DIRECTV for TV service. Most of the promos on it have expired, and it's gotten pretty pricey. I don't believe we're under a contract anymore, or if we are it's about at its end. I've been looking at CenturyLink's Prism, which is available to us and would be a lot less expensive. At our old house we had AT&T U-verse TV. We loved it and had no problems at all with it. Prism looks to me to be basically the same thing as U-verse TV, but I don't know anyone who has it and haven't really heard/seen much about it other than on CenturyLink's web site or TV ads/mailers from CenturyLink. Was curious if anyone here has it and what they think about it/how well it works for them. We currently have 25/2 internet-only from CenturyLink - no phone service. We previously had 10/1, and upgraded to the 25/2 which is bonded service. I believe the CenturyLink rep told me that if we ever decided to sign up for Prism TV that we would have to go back to 10/1 because one of the lines would be used for the TV service (which I'm not sure I'd be too thrilled about). I know our U-verse was VDSL service, and I believe our CenturyLink service is ADSL2. With U-verse we were really close to the VRAD, and were able to be provisioned for the highest capable. We had the Max Turbo internet package (which was 24/3 - the fastest they offered at the time), and watching/recording TV never had any impact on the internet speed. It's my understanding that with U-verse watching TV can impact internet speed depending on how far one is from the VRAD and what the line is provisioned for, but we never had any problems with that. I don't know how close our current house is to things, but I know the internet speeds we have are the fastest CenturyLink offers to anyone in our area. Since our CenturyLink can't be provisioned for anywhere near what we had with U-verse, is it possible that watching Prism TV would impact the internet speeds - causing us to have below 10 at times? The CenturyLink web site says that up to 4 shows can be watched and recorded at the same time - which I believe is what the max possible was with our U-verse, but I know that limit was affected by how far one was from the VRAD/what the line could be provisioned for and not everyone could do 4. How accurate is the 4 statement from CenturyLink? Is there some way I'd be able to tell if we could actually do 4 at the same time before signing up for Prism (if I were to seriously consider signing up for it)? I see Prism has wireless TV boxes. AT&T didn't have those when we had U-verse and we don't have them with DIRECTV (although DIRECTV does have them now), so we have no experience with those. How well do the wireless boxes work? Are there any unavailable features/drawbacks with a wireless box? Anything else I should know about Prism? Thanks!

[Embarq] Zyxel 660 series modem + Netgear N300 bridging problem?

$

So, I've been using the combo for nearly 2yrs and recently picked up a Play Station 4. When gaming I noticed that I have very strict NAT 3, so the solution I found was to bridge either the modem or router to get NAT 2. The problem is, when the router is set for "access point" (DHCP off) only, the modem routing capability can't seem to handle load too well with multiple users logged on. But, with the modem set to bridge, I can't access any of the Netgear routing function. Anyone know what I am doing wrong here? I do notice the Gateway IP address changes on the router when modem is set to bridge instead of the standard 192.168.1.X, I get 70.2.80.X which doesn't respond when typed into browser, neither will the standard modem IP of 10.0.0.X.

Performance problem after upgrading DSL modem

I'm a CenturyLink DSL customer - ADSL technology. I just replaced an Actiontec GT701-WG modem (originally purchased from QWEST) with an Actiontec C1000A modem (not purchased from CenturyLink). The old modem reported upstream/downstream rates as 1056/800 Kbps. The new modem reports 608/832. Using the CenturyLink speed test I got the following results: GT701-WG: Download Speed: 966 kbps (120.8 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 469 kbps (58.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 75 ms C1000A: Download Speed: 599 kbps (74.9 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 685 kbps (85.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 124 ms Obviously, something is seriously wrong here. I the new modem originally had some "auto-select" parameters that selected a different option than the old modem (PPPoE LLC Bridged vs. PPPoA VC-Mux), but manually reconfiguring them to be identical changed no performance characteristics. I've switched back and forth a couple times to confirm these numbers. The actual numbers change a bit but the results are consistent: I've gained a bit of upstream speed (which I don't need) and lost a lot of downstream speed. Is this new modem inherently slower than the old one, or are there some things I need to tweak in the new modem. I need wireless N support that the old modem does not have so I'd like to get the new modem to work better. Or do I need to get a different modem?

Hello all, for the past some years I have been using Comcast high speed internet service. I am switching over to CenturyLink because of the lower monthly service rate. I have purchased my own wireless router previously. http://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/modem-compatibility-table-q.html Could you please recommend what is my next best step? Thank you,
