I've done my best searching this forum and the net, but there is lots of conflicting information about the specs of various qwest/centurylink VDSL wireless modems and whether or not they support simultaneous dual band.
By simultaneous dual band, I'm referring to the wireless capabilities of the device. Namely, that it has two radios; one for 2.4ghz one for 5ghz, and that both of these radios can operate concurrently.
Some here say that the Q1000 definitely does not support concurrent 2.4ghz/5ghz operation. Some say it definitely does. Some say that you have to chose one band only. Some say the Q1000z (zyxel) is different than the Q1000 in regards to dual band. Some avoid the question by saying to disable the wireless and connect an external simultaneous dual band router (this may be good advice, but it doesn't answer the question).
This is why I'm confused. I realize that the Q1000 is generally out of production (although newly boxed refurbs are cheap). I'm only asking about the Q1000 (Q1000z) because I'm pretty sure that the newer variants like the C1000a/C2000a definitely don't support concurrent 2.4ghz/5ghz wireless operation.
I can't find a full manual or even a spec sheet (that has radio information) for the Q1000.
So, can anyone answer my question? Does the Actiontec Q1000 support concurrent 2.4ghz/5ghz wireless operation? If not, does it even support 5ghz wireless operation? Thanks.

Bridging Zyxel 660R
Just got a Linksys WRT54G ver 1.1 for almost nothing and would like to start using it.
Is it worth setting my Zyxel 660R into bridge mode to use this nice but fairly-old wireless router? Or should I spend the 20-30 bucks to get a N-class wireless router, or something even better, instead?

PK5001Z Problems or CL problems?
Hi,
I just got CL yesterday - and I have periods of constant disconnect. Today it was a couple times an hour, then a few more times an hour, and now every 5 minutes or so. I can't do things like stream videos or play video games without constantly being D/Ced
Per other forum items I turned off the WPS, added my computer to the DMZ hosting list as well as made sure the firmware was up to date (version 16), and opened the ports for the video games I was trying to play .
Tech support chat told me it was a physical issue - but I can't be convinced as his only data was seeing my upload/download was slightly off on my modem status.
I'm wondering if this is a router issue, or an issuing with the DSL, or CL in general?
For some reason, when the tech guy came, there were sets of ethernet cables / ports in one of our closets. Using an Ethernet cable he connected the "machine room" (some place in the apt building" to living room so the DSL would work. I was going to start trying to change that to other rooms to see if that would help?
Anyway, let me know what other metrics you may need if someone could assist.

Help: Configuring 2nd SSID on CL Actiontec PK5000
I'd like to allow a houseguest to use my CenturyLink DSL without compromising the security of my LAN, and without any additional hardware. Setting up a second SSID seems like the best way to do this, but I'm a bit uncertain about some parts of the configuration. I have activated a second "guest" SSID and set the bandwidth limitation. I have the option to "Set SSID in Separate Subnet" which makes sense, to avoid IP conflicts. I have set the DHCP start and end addresses to, for example, 192.168.88.1 and 192.168.88.254, but am uncertain what values would go in the "SSID Subnetmask" and "Gateway Address" fields. There is also an option to "Select SSID URL redirect." I'd appreciate any other suggestions that would help make this setup more secure.

CenturyLink is causing Twitch.tv throttling?
I haven't been able to watch a stream since the start of September because of the massive lag spikes I have been experiencing. I used a free VPN to test and mysteriously everything went away. Previous to September I could have multiple streams at max resolution and wouldn't have any problems.
Every other streaming service I used this month has been fine.
This isn't an isolated incident either. Looks like a lot of Phoenix, AZ residents are having this issue:

Is there anything the "official" tech support people can look into in getting this resolved?

Severe Bandwidth Exhaustion - South of Spokane
Been a while since i posted here, but I have recently become increasingly frustrated with the poor service we are getting out here.
I currently live about 5 miles southwest of spokane, and currently the only available Wireline provider is centurylink (formerly quest).
For the last two weeks i have not seen my connection reach its full established connection rate (modem connected at 1536/896, actual speeds are ~1.3m/768k due to packet overhead). in other words, Severe router exhaustion.
What I Know:
The terminal set that serves my areas is fed with nothing but T1 lines. There are 3 vented DSLAM cabinets, and only one of them has all 8 T1 cards installed and connected. there are at least 139 subscribers connected to this terminal. the other two terminals have ~70 subscribers and ~10 subscibers respectively
Assuming that each subscriber is connected at 1536/896 and getting ~1.3, then having more than 9 Subscribers online at any given time means that the bandwidth is Exhausted.
What I have seen:
My samknows router has been testing the line for over 2 years, and service has steadily declined over that time period as CenturyLink has added subscribers. for the last week my download stats show dropping as low as .5mbps between the hours of 8pm and 4am. What this means is that many of these subscribers have come to the same realization that i once did, that in order to get any large downloads done they had to run overnight. This indicates a severe need for service improvement in our area, as it indicates more than 15-20 subscribers resorting to overnight downloads due to the inadequate service in our area.
What I want to know:
When Centurylink bought Qwest over 2 years ago, the FCC approved the merger under one condition: "Centurylink was to upgrade qwests rural hardware in areas such as my own to match their own offerings in other areas"
Centurylink currently provides 50mbps to most of spokane and Cheney to the north and west of my location, and 25mbps to the small town of spangle, to the southeast of my location.
NOANET Ran a dark fiber optic line that is available to be leased for use by ISPs directly past my house.
What i want to know is, Why has Centurylink NOT Honored their agreement with the FCC and made an ounce of progress towards improving the service in my community.
I would Write centurlink at your talktous email service, but i am not the account holder, and my father doesnt use the internet enough to see how bad his service is, nor does he care enough to send such an email himself.
Some days i honestly feel like doing something to force CL to replace their Antique hardware out here, but i really dont want to do that. I have waited patiently for over a year when their Techs told me they were doing something about it, yet nothing has happened.
Do i need to submit my story to the local news station? or should i send a letter to all of centurylink's customers detailing the situation and asking for their support to petition centurylink to get something done?
Sorry for the long post, but what are your guys thougths and suggestions?
Im pulling my hair out because of the lack of things i am able to do with this poor service.
Thank you
Nemesis

Switch to VDSL Bend, OR
CL is switching our area to VDSL. We were previously limited to 7 MBps with ADSL. As part of the switch they informed me my connect speed would be reduced to 1.5 MBps until the new network is tuned. My modem confirms the change. They stated this would take a "few weeks." How long does it take to complete this process? How long before the link speed improvements of VDSL become available?

Centurylink Business (and BS "verbal" 3 year contracts.)
I work out of an office building and while I don't have centurylink (dropped after a month because charter entered the building and for the same price I get 50/5 internet compared to 10/768kbps... no brainer.)
The thing is, a lot of people who are trying to switch to charter are being told that they are in 3 year contracts, however no one ever signed a contract, no one was told they were entering into a 3 year contract, and centurylink is being rather idiotic about the ordeal.
Is the reason centurylink puts businesses into 3 year contracts because they know they can't compete and will eventually lose when competition surfaces? Currently 3 businesses in my building are dealing with the 3 year contract BS.
Charter doesn't do contracts where we are at but anytime I make any changes I get an email and have to go in and "digitally" sign the document agreeing to the changes. According to the three businesses, they were never informed they were entering into contracts, and one business said that they had verbal confirmation of a contract (how would that hold up in court?)
Why is centurylink so shady about contracts? I mean most companies for business will try to get contracts but at least they are up front or mention it somewhere, I don't even see any mention on centurylink's business site (not that they tell you much on the site, it's all just call in to find out crap.)

Keep getting this letters.
CenturyTel keeps sending me these letters that my bandwidth consumption makes me an "Extreme Techie" (because we all know that your technical expertise is strongly correlated to your downloads.) They are pushing me to upgrade, but I already purchase the fastest plan available in my area, which is the 10M plan, though I only get provisioned at 7M.
I go weeks without getting them, but sometimes get as many as three letters within the same week. Is anyone else getting bombarded with these letters?

CenturyLink C1000A Connection doesn't actually connect.
So i have a modem/router as stated above that won't allow me through to the internet. I connect to it wirelessly using my smart phone; it sets me up with an ip address and everything, but when i go to try anything online, it doesn't let me through. Any ideas? I also can't seem to get to the router homepage at 192.168.0.1 to check any of the settings, but that might just be due to the fact that i'm using a phone.

Looking for any help you can give...
Mods please move this if you need to...
I am NOT a centurylink customer, but rather a Hopi Telecommunications customer... the problem being that as a noob here I really don't see where else to take this... it seems like somewhere I read that CenTel sold their Flagstaff stuff to HopiTel.
I am never able to get better than 1.5-2.0mbps on a 3mb line... tech says "well my work laptop isn't having that issue" and leaves.... If anyone wants to take a shot at helping me make the best of a bad situation I am willing to be a good listener.

[Qwest] Lose internet every night from 7:14 to 7:24.
EVERY night, we lose our internet at EXACTLY 7:14 p.m. and it comes back on at EXACTLY 7:24. This is frustrating. I contacted Century LInk and they told me they checked and there is nothing wrong on their end, everything seems to be working well. We asked if there is some kind of routine maintenance or something being done since it is exactly the same time every night but was assured there was nothing going on at any set time. There is no way we can believe that because it is so exact on when it shuts down for 10 minutes. I could understand it being more of a mystery if it randomly went off and on at different times of the day but it is only the internet and at exactly the same time every night without fail. What could be going on?

Monitoring software for CenturyLink C1000A / Broadcom modems
Bit loading and Signal to Noise Ratio spectrum.
Downstream Signal to Noise Ratio vs. Time of Day graph.
I found this software is designed to monitor DSL modems based on Broadcom
chipsets like my CenturyLink C1000A modem.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/dslstats/
To use this software you need to turn on your modem's Remote Console Telnet
access: > Advanced Setup > Remote Management > Remote Console
The DLSstats software login configuration for C1000A modem needs manual setup:
Modem IP address: 192.168.0.1 is C1000A default IP address
Telnet login name and password you specified for Remote Console access
CLI command prefix: xdslctl

[Embarq] Emails to embarqmail.com blocked for spam
Looking for some help with trying to figure out who is responsible here. I think it is Embarq but even if it is I don't know what to do about it.
I have a small consulting business and my domain/website/email is hosted with 1&1 Internet. My email account is the only email account on my domain and I really only send about 10 - 15 emails a month. The email account is not used and has never been used for marketing. A few weeks ago I was attempting to reply to a customer with an embarqmail.com email address and within 24 hours I got a bounce back messages stating the following.
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its recipients after 25 hours.
The message has not yet been delivered to the following addresses:
SMTP error from remote server in greeting:
host smtp.embarq.synacor.com (208.47.184.2):
421 4.7.0 (C2) Too much spam.
No action is required on your part. Delivery attempts will continue for some time, and this warning may be repeated at intervals if the message remains undelivered. Eventually the mail delivery software will give up, and when that happens, the message will be returned to you.Now to make things more interesting; one of my customers is a local engineering firm and they also have a hosted domain/website/email from 1&1 (which I manage) and they are also having the same issue. Any email from their domain sent to the embarqmail.com domain is getting bounced back for "Too much spam".
I have contacted 1&1 support before for the engineering firm and 1&1 basically told me it is because of spam - more specifically the individual who was having the issues - more than 50% of their messages were being manually or automatically marked as spam. They advised a "cool down period" of not sending any email to the embarqmail.com for a few days to see if the domain would automatically get off any lists. I don't see how this is remotely possible - again because the email is only used for communicating with local clients and not marketing or anything. After arguing that point with 1&1 and a few months later they plead there are no issues on their side and recommend that I contact Embarq because the issue is on their end.
I have contacted 1&1 support about my package this morning to see what their response is this time and I haven't heard back from them as of yet.
According to MXToolBox the 1&1 mail servers aren't on any Blacklists and neither are either of the domains. From a few tidbits I am reading online it sounds like Embarq uses Spamhaus and checking the mail servers & domains straight through Spamhaus directly again shows no issues.
So if these mail servers & domains aren't on any blacklists what the heck is Embarq's mail servers looking at to block these domains from sending messages through? And better yet - what the heck am I supposed to do about it to resolve it?
Thanks for any information or recommendations.
