Just thought I'd throw it out there that I found a very old router of mine from 2014 that works very well with Centurylink Fiber. It's the Linksys E2500 v1. It hasn't received any firmware updates since 2014 but has PPPoE, VLAN tagging, and supports 6rd. I got everything up and running in under 15 minutes with this router. It's limited to 100mbps on all the ethernet ports so I wouldn't use it for FTTH subscriptions higher than 100mbps. I hope someone out there finds this useful. Has anyone else been able to get an older router working with this service? :)

[Qwest] CL Aerial Fiber? 1000 feet from Aerial Drop. Possibilities?
Looking for a CL Tech / Engineer's help here.
My address, states "Advanced Fiber Technology" and yet I have Bonded VDLS2 10/1M. No news here on update/upgrades. So I'm trying to take thing as far as I can so CL might help :)
Overview
Along our road CL has aerial fiber feeding an additional Cabinet up the road by a few miles. I'm roughly 9000' North of the Main Cabinet/DSLAM that has been fiber fed for years. First Picture Below shows current DSLAM/Cabinets etc.
I was first told, I'd never gain access to aerial line. But since then, CL has done aerial drops at each other road intersection within the past 6-12 months. One intersection is roughly 1000' to the south (Second Image ). There's additional equipment here as shown in the photo as well.
In our front yard we have an aerial pole that runs over to the power poles. These power poles are also where the CL aerial fiber is running to the additional cabinet about 3 miles up the road.
I'm in pretty good shape as I have Aerial Poles ready, so no boring is needed which seems to be a barrier and huge cost. What's possible with this setup? Would CL let me connect at the intersection 1000' down the road?
Also, I have had a few correspondences with the Power Company regarding pole attachment if I need to run a fiber line all the way back to Main DSLAM and connect in to CL's network.
Any addition work I should complete to give me the best shot at CL assisting me? I'm not looking to spend 200K by any means, but I don't mind shelling out a money upfront if speed can happen.

New customer questions
So I am moving out to a kind of rural area and all that is available for internet is CenturyLink DSL. So talking with them this morning they said that I can buy a modem from them for $200. I currently have cable internet and I usually prefer to buy my own modems as I am somewhat tech savvy. I'm guessing my current cable modem won't work so I will have to buy a new DSL specific one.
I've never had DSL before or CenturyLink so I have a few questions:
1. What kind of modem to they sell? Is it any good? Should I buy it or should I buy something else that's better?
2. Is their price OK for it, or should I buy my own modem from someplace else for less money?

[CenturyTel] Locked-out from online test suite
In another thread I talked of my DSL line's "Instability" and yesterday I Chat-ted with online CL support after going to the CL repair site and running the tests there. The testing had concluded that my cabling resulted in Instability. The online rep ran a test from their side and confirmed Instability and said they'd scheduled a service tech.
So now I await the service tech, but to my dismay I find that BECAUSE I HAVE A SERVICE TICKET IN PLACE, I CAN NO LONGER RUN THE TESTING SUITE! So I can't check anything any more. WTF?
Further, yesterday I got an email not an hour after I'd done the Chat session and it said "we resolved your problem, do you agree click RESOLVED or if not click HERE if you still need a technician."
Well naturally I clicked HERE and all it does is send me to a general Contact Us page where Chat does not work! Round & round I go!
https://www.centurylink.com/home/help/contact.html?rid=contactus
So I am dead-in-the-water and have no idea if a tech will be out today or not.
Can you tell I am frustrated? Can't wait for the "how'd we do" survey after.

Greenwave C4000 Bonded?
A few months ago there was talk that CL was going to release a 4000 version for bonded lines. Has anyone heard any news if they are going to ever release a bonded 4000? Can't find anything in searches.

[CenturyTel] Type of wire to use for bonded DSL connection
CL tech was out yesterday and I am happy to have scored a C3000A from him, which can do Bonded. But I couldn't go Bonded immediately as my house wiring is typically helter-skelter telephone wire i.e. multiple runs of 4w twisted some daisy-chained and some Star arrangement. He recommended a direct run from NID to Modem and I'm not there yet.
He advised me to run a CAT5 cable to my C3000A, and I neglected to ask him: if Bonded only requires two twisted pairs, why not use telephone wire?
Could be wrong but doesn't telephone wire twist as well, and have heavier guage wire, thus would work just as well? What's the magic of CAT5 in this instance?

Mesh system that is compatible with CenturyLink fiber (PPoE/VLAN)?
I just moved to a new home and and am wanting to upgrade to a mesh system for better coverage and to minimize wifi dead zones. I am not using CenturyLink's provided router and am instead using my own wifi 6 router (TP-Link AX50).
I believe CenturyLink in my area (Seattle) requires PPoE and VLAN tagging to work with your own equipment. I was wondering if anyone here knew of any mesh systems that support PPoE and VLAN tagging, and thus would be compatible with CenturyLink fiber.
I was also wondering if it may be possible to use my current router (TP-Link AX50) just as a switch and not as a wireless access point, and instead use a mesh system (connected to the AX50 vis LAN) as the access point providing wifi.
Any feedback would be appreciated!

[CenturyTel] Actiontec C3000A firmware
Does anyone know what the differences are between these two firmware's for the Actiontec C3000A?
The upgrade screen is showing:
current firmware version: CAD004-31.165L.13
available firmware version: CAD002-31.165L.4
upgrade status: Firmware is up to date
The modem is showing my firmware is up to date and typically the available firmware box is blank when the firmware is up to date. It seems like something strange is going on with this screen. Also my current firmware looks like a higher version than what is showing as available so I'm debating if the available firmware is really an upgrade. Centurylink does list the CAD002-31.165L.4 as the latest.
Before changing anything I would like to know what the CAD002-31.165L.4 changes. My connection is a 20/2 bonded ADSL2+

Century link and blocked ports
Ok, i contacted customer service today and read the TOS. They all say that CL DOES NOT block port forwarding or any ports or protocols such as ssh, ftp, and so forth.
However, i beg to differ. I have a new windows 10 machine, 3 of them, none of them have virus scanners, or firewalls yet. I configured the router to allow traffic in on port 22,5053, 2222, using ssh. NONE of the data makes it through. No connection even hits my log on my server.
Used nmap from outside of network and its almost like the routers firmware is setup to block ssh, ftp, and ANY protocol servers can run on including vpn.
Can anyone confirm that CL blocks protocols via DPI?
Has anyone been able to get a homeserver to work without the use of hamachi or other vps solutions?
thanks.
Oh and all server software is correct because as soon as i take the server to the nieghbors house on xfinity, works just fine hahaha

c3000a Website Blocking/Filtering option is missing
Just received a new Actiontec c3000a. Under "Advanced Settings", the top menu option in the left side bar is "Broadband settings". There should be an option "Blocking/Filtering" at the top of this left side bar. Anyone else seen anything similar? Ideas on how to fix? I tried tech support and they said there were modem options that centurylink disabled that they would be correcting in a future firmware update, but not sure if that was just their way of blowing me off.

[CenturyTel] Need to replace Westell modem model number c90-6100
Have a friend whose CenturyLink modem just crapped out. It's a Westell C90-6100.
Would someone please give me the model number and/or brand and source of a later model modem which will get him back up and running again?
He's 85 and really relies on the web for communication during these difficult times with the Chinese Virus.
Thanks a ton!

[CenturyTel] Reading C3000A up/download stats
Sorry for the newbie question, but my new C3000A has done in the last 10 days since reboot, as shown in DSL Transport area:
Total Usage 22004.42 Mbits Downstream and 3281.45 Mbits Upstream
Am I correct to divide these by 10 i.e. 10 bits = a Byte?
So in 10 days I've used 2.2GByte down and 328MB up? Seem low to me given we've streamed some TV in that period.

Has anyone been able to download this upgrade?

Getting Century Link Fiber service -- I am new to Century Link
Hello CL forum folks!!
I spend most of my time over in the Cox forum as I have Cox DOSCIS 3.1 Gigablast service. I have another townhouse being built in Henderson NV that has CL Fiber service (Cox chose to put in Doscis 3.1). Seems like a very good deal, $65 month for 1 Gb (or they say) + a Greenwave C4000XG modem + Install.
Questions -- I assume, unlike the Cox DOSCIS 3.1 tech where I have a modem (Arris 8200), the "modem" for CL is the Greenwave 4000XG which is a modem/router. It has wifi too, which I could care less about as I plan to put in all Ubiquiti stuff (Unify router and a few APs). They want to give me the modem/router for free, so I guess I will take it.
My questions:
1. Do I have other options to just get a modem (no routing) like DOSCSIS 3.1 specs provide, then to my router(s)? I assume no.
2. Any decent articles/pages anyone can point me to read up on?
3. Anyone else add their own router downstream from a "compatible" CL modem/router without issues?
4. I assume I can turn OFF WiFi on the C4000XG and connect another router to the C4000XG and use the C4000XG in "bridge mode"?
Thanks!!

Might be getting fiber installed.
Hello, I have a question on how fiber is run into the house. I've seen that CenturyLink normally uses an ONT and then run ethernet into the house. I have an order to have fiber installed and they sent me a Greenwave C4000XG. I noticed this has an SFP+ port on it. Do you think they will run fiber through the house now? In my case, it would be run into my basement about 30 ft to my network cabinet.
I hope the install goes through, a bit worried because the guys that came out to scope the area said the fiber is not run down my side of the street. My order is on hold until the engineer looks it over to see if it's cost-effective to have me as a customer since they have to go the distance plus under the street.
