[Qwest] No dial tone but DSL works-Tucson AZ

When I call the landline from my cell it goes straight to CenturyLink voice mail. Also, DSL seems slower. I tried plugging my cordless phone and an old corded phone into all jacks in the house without success. Also tried plugging them into the phone jack on the back of the modem. Is there anything else I should do before I call CenturyLink?

When is fiber coming?

I have had Prism tv in the past where I am. Now I am told it is not available in my area which I know is not true because I had it. I was also promised internet at 40mbps where I am. I called the following day to verify and it turned out to only be 10mbps internet which would have made me very upset because that is not what I was promised. Luckily I held off disconnecting cable because of stuff like this. I know for Prism to work I needed 25mbps internet. Yet I am told only 10mbps is available in my area. It has only been 10mbps for almost 10 years. I have been waiting a while for fiber to come to my area. Is there a schedule posted somewhere that people can see so they know when to expect fiber to come to them? 10mbps is not going to do it anymore for a lot of folks.

Hello, A relative of mine currently has 7 Mbps DSL service and online it says she can get 12 Mbps, but when I chat in, they say I can't. Any ideas of what to do?

Bridge mode DSL protocols?

Hi all - I picked up one of that fancy Netgear Orbi Mesh network routers with the mesh wifi. Works like a champ in AP mode. I ended up upgrading to the 120/10 service from Century link and got a C3000Z modem. Modem seems good enough, wifi is turned off on it because the mesh system works MUCH better in my house. The Orbi has many features the CenturyLink modem doesn't such as limiting access to the internet with a click of a button. With some frustrating teens in the house, I'm like to use the Orbi as the main router w/o the modem also being a router, however to put the modem into bridge mode I need to input some dsl protocols - I tried contacting CenturyLink, but no one seems to have a clue. Any ideas? This is a bonded pair (two 60 mbps/5 links).

CL GPON fiber would like to connect using a Ubiquiti Nano G

Hey Guys- Live in Phoenix. I have CL GPON fiber and would like to connect using a Ubiquiti Nano G as my “router” (for IPoE settings and VLAN 201 tagging) and by pass the CenturyLink “modem’ (Calix 844G) all together but I can not get this setup to work. I tried setting up the Nano G configuring with the ISP IP addy and VLAN tagging 201 but no success. Then tried putting Calix 844G in “Transparent Bridging” mode and hooked directly to my USG Gateway. I let the Calix handle the VLAN tagging. Still no luck. Now, I can’t log into the Calix 884G (192.168.0.1) anymore. The GUI just times out in my browser. How do I get this thing out of bridge mode??? Thank you for your help.

[Embarq] Upgrading From 40/5? 60/10 Doable?

I was checking Centurylink Business to see if there was any speed upgrades. It now list 60/5 as a upgrade. The current 40/5 line is bonded VDSL2 with a SNR on both lines 15-16 up and down. There are 0 CRC errors to boot on both lines. I am hoping to upgrade to 60/10. Tech is coming on Thursday. What do you think?

[Qwest] New 120mbps DSL Service

Hi all, I am moving into a new house in Rio Rancho, NM (former U.S. West/Qwest). The CenturyLink website says the location has 120 mbps service available. Supposedly the upload is 10mbps (I called CL and the kid on the phone was totally clueless, but finally said it was 10 mbps after lots of fumbling). The site says "advanced fiber technology" and "tech install required." I'm guessing that means its FTTN and a bonded 60/5 VDSL. CenturyLink's compatible modem page seems to be outdated - what modems will support 120 mbps bonded VDSL besides the C3000A and C3000Z? Would I be better off just buying the CL modem (which I am guessing is the 3000Z?). I'll want to use it in bridge mode so I can use my own router/firewall. Thanks!

Weird issue with my DSL/phone - resolved by CL

This one was really wonky - up until last Thursday my DSL and phone were rock solid with CenturyLink. On Friday morning I started getting drops and retrains on my DSL however checking my phone still had a good dial tone with no static or cutouts. This went on until around 4 PM and then my DSL was solid again however it was training up slower at ~40 Mbps instead of the usual 56 for download. Upload was still at 5.5 Mbps. Happened again on Saturday and Sunday with the DSL between 7 AM - 4 PM but phone was fine. Monday I lost dial tone around 9 AM but still had DSL and it was no longer retraining. Checked it at the NID - no dial tone so got a chat going and requested a repair. Field tech showed up today and checked it at the faded green box (pedestal?) in my front yard. Had a chat and he didn't know about any maintenance being done on the DSL side but I definitely had a problem with the wiring back to the central office. About 10-15 minutes later was back and hooking stuff up in the box and closing it up. And I had dial tone again. He found a broken wire a few blocks away; what ever the fault was it did allow my DSL to work but at lower speeds but no dial tone. Maybe a break where the broken wire still allowed the higher frequency signals of the DSL to get through but not the phone signals but no idea why the DSL was acting up from 7 AM to 4 PM. Rebooted my modem since it had been up for 191 days (!) so I figured it was due for a reset. And I'm back to 58/5.5 Mbps speeds again the last time I checked. Anyway. kudos to the field tech who fixed the issue; at least it was a nice day to be outside here in Frostbite Falls, MN looking for broken wires in the neighborhood. :)

Troy, MO Fiber Deployment?

There are a few directional drilling companies in town putting in plastic conduit on nearly every street. Spectrum has gigabit available nearly everywhere in town but it is hard to find CenturyLink offering anything above 10/768k. My house on Main St near the center of town has 1.5Mbps down as the highest speed offered through CenturyLink. We already have natural gas everywhere, so I'm wondering if this is CenturyLink bringing fiber to the area? Anyway to confirm that, or just find a tech around town sometime?

VDSL2 Not working as expected?

So we switched to a bonded connection a little while back and we haven't been getting our full speed (80/10) - CenturyLink's been no help. I was wondering if you folks had any idea of how to solve my dilemma or if I'm straight out of luck. Here's what our modem says: (Zyxel C300Z) [att=1] and here's what I'm getting: [att=2] You'll notice I'm getting only half the download, of the bonded pair, but I'm getting the full upload. I'm not sure what's causing this, I've gone through all the troubleshooting steps I can think of. Any thoughts?

C2100t bridge mode questions

I recently bought some ubiquiti hardware for my home networking purposes. nothing fancy, just an edgerouter lite and an access point. Currently my internet is through CenturyLink and I have 1gb fiber and have the c2100t for my modem/router/WiFi solution. My goal is to put my c2100t in bridge mode and just utilize the modem portion. I have read in the forums about how I need to connect my laptop to my c2100t via Ethernet and set up the configurations on the c2100t to turn off both 2.4 & 5.0 radios and also go into WAN settings and put this into transparent bridge mode. As far as I can tell, I did all of these steps correctly. My problem is when I try to connect my edgerouter lite to my c2100t. I am unable to access the edgerouter lite GUI when I connect my laptop to the edgerouter lite via Ethernet. This leads me to assume I did not fully configure the c2100t correctly or I am not connecting Ethernet cables correctly from my c2100t to the edgerouter lite. Currently I have an Ethernet cable connecting the c2100t and ERL. I am using 1 of the 4 LAN ports on the c2100t and Ethernet port 0 on the edgerouter lite. My hunch is that I may need to configure one of the LAN ports on the c2100t? Or perhaps wire the two together differently? All the help is appreciated. Thanks!

CL Fiber at my location?

Hi all, So I live in Longwood FL and currently have Spectrum gig and have been shoping around as the node here has been bad for years and always goes out during a heavy ran and the node always floods. Anyways we have CL as well but the speeds were always advertised with a top speed of 15mbps which is way to slow, recently the speeds were just boosted up to 40mbps and showed "Advanced fiber technology" im assuming thats not fiber to my house since they dont offer gig correct? I just checked today and now the CL tier list still shows 40mbps however the "Advanced fiber technology"badge is now gone. What would of caused that to happen? I know CL has been laying fiber down the main roads in front of my neighborhood and saw them out today laying even more. Im just wondering if I should expect gig soon, and why the "Advanced fiber technology" badge seems to be disappearing. Thanks!

[CenturyTel] New 500/500 Plan Offered

Just noticed today CL is now offering a 500/500 plan at my apartment in Seattle. This had to have launched just in the past week. So now I can get: 1Gig - $79.95 500/500 - $69.95 100/50 - $64.95 40/5 - $39.95 That pricing is silly, in my opinion. $5 difference between 100/50 and 500/500?

Future Fiber Interactive Map

Hello everyone, I don't know if this has been posted already or not but today I got a targeted ad on my facebook feed with the title "CenturyLink fiber is coming to your neighborhood!". I assumed it was generic ad since I live in a house built in the 1970s, but the ad took me to https://www.centurylink.com/fiber/plans-and-pricing/phoenix-arizona/ . After zooming in on the map, my neighborhood (35th Ave & Glendale) is definitely highlighted. I saw team fishel trucks a few days ago, along the main road, but didn't think much of it. Link might work for other cities too

724 kb/s upload speed, and it costs me $45/month?

Was trying to upload a video to youtube and after 30 hours I had to wonder if everyone went through this. So I asked around at some forums. They laughed at me. They said my ISP was a joke. I agree. It's been an overall nightmare compared to my old ISP, but now this.. So, what's the deal. I'd have someone come out and look at the setup, but last time I did that I was charged $100 without warning. Guy was here 10 minutes. Is CLink just this terrible, or is there something that can be done to get an upload speed anywhere near respectable.. you know, worth $45/month??

[Qwest] Calling ALL IN THE KNOW. What is CL planning to combat Starlink?

$

Well as the title states, does anyone know what CenturyLink plans to do when Starlink is ready to start taking subscribers to their Light Speed Internet Services? Starlink will have three layers of Sats, and one of those layers will be so shallow at 340km that the tier estimation will be 10 ms latency and at least Fiber bandwidth to start, this layer is specifically targeting Fiber like gaming and banking apps, and any other applications that require low latency. The middle layer will have a shallow altitude of 550km and target normal web browsing services and have a latency in the 25ms range (what I have now). The top layer of Sats will have an altitude of 1150km and target 4K streaming with a latency in the range of 35ms or slightly higher. The cost will be a $200 equipment purchase, and a small flat disk that is small enough to embed into car roofs etc, and of course your home. They said its the size of a medium to small pizza. Monthly costs is not yet known, but when asked Starlink reps said they plan to beat all their competitions pricing structures. A.k.a cheap Fiber like internet. It's a $10 Billion dollar endeavor so they must start out with very reasonable pricing in order to gain adoption. My current max service I can get from CL is 25ms latency and 25 Mbps downloads, up is only 3.3. Service tier is 40/5 but the techs can't seem to improve it any further. I am about 1700 feet from the closest CL node, or where the CL techs connect us to their services. Any ideas if CenturyLink plans to launch some new fancy services that will compete, or are they just going to be losing millions of possible subscribers without a fight? I'm truly curious because if Starlink is even remotely close to the Monthly costs we will be saying goodbye to CL in a snap. So, anybody have any ideas what so ever on what CenturyLink is planning to try and compete with? Surely they have plans? Right? Thanks for your input and please be fair and nice with your replies. This family of 6 wants and needs hundreds of megabytes a second, at minimum and I just don't see CL giving us that any time soon. Best Regards Rod
