About 6 months ago CAF II work was done down the road and a new mini dslam was installed about a half mile closer than the other dslam. The new dslam still doesn't appear to be active as seen in attached pic(DSL light is not lit). i have had stable 10M service for several years. I checked the website for my address the other day and was surprised to see that they decreased my available speed to 6M. This site has showed that 10M was available for my location since I got it several years ago. Does anybody have any idea why they would decrease my available speed and are my modem stats good enough for 10? It makes me wonder if they dropped the available speed until they activate the new dslam and then 10M will be available, making it look like they increased the speed. I would then get no speed increase. Any idea why nothing is being done with the new DSLAM?

[CenturyTel] Modem Purchase Recommendation Please
New to CenturyTel, line activated yesterday. I was told 25 Meg max in my area and the sent me a C1100T. It is now set up in bridge mode with my TP-Link Archer C7 as the router.
I intend to buy my own modem now that I know everything works OK and would like recommendations. Is there any benefit to buying a more expensive refurb, say a C2100T, if I will only be using it in bridge mode anyway? Naturally, there is a benefit if they ever upgrade but I don't see any indications of them upgrading anytime soon. All available equipment seems to be modem/routers. Which model has the best modem?
As an aside, they told me the best speed I could get was 25 Meg and I do get it. They told me the line would be ready after 5 PM yesterday but I noticed the DSL light was green mid morning so I set it up. First couple of speed tests came booming in at 40 Meg. Needless to say, I was surprised. I started surfing around and soon saw the screen flash and a message about "network change". Weird. Checked speed test again and only 25 Meg. Huh. Did they lie? Why would they?

C1900A Bonded DSL Lines Wonky
Two weeks ago my internet went out. I logged into the modem (Actiontec C1900A) and saw that DSL1 had the correct 5.5/0.6 Mbs but DSL2 was stuck at 0.7/0.3 Mbs. I spoke to tech support and they said there was a box somewhere causing problems. They scheduled a technician to fix it in two days.
In the meantime, I went into the settings and switched the WAN type from ADSL2+ bonded to just ADSL2+ because I figured maybe I could just use the good line and have everything work. Turns out, yes. I was at half speed, but at least I had internet for the two days waiting for the tech to come.
Well, now I'm having the same problem, except now it's reversed. DSL2 is fine, but DSL1 is having problems. Another tech is coming out tomorrow, but I'm a grad student and have final projects I need to work on this weekend. Unfortunately my trick isn't working this time because changing to regular, non-bonded ADSL2+ defaults to DSL1 (the bad line).
My questions are two-fold:
1) is there a way to drop DSL1 and just use DSL2 while waiting for tech support?
2) wtf does this keep happening and what should I make sure the tech does so this doesn't happen again?

Dyson level suckage?
I whined and mewled a bit about my two years of line decline in the rural thread, and also provided a picture in that thread of a broken pole that's been that way over a month since I called to report it the day the log truck snagged and broke it. A cop has now reported it to someone by radio after declaring it a public hazard. That was last week.
I cancelled service early last week and was given a day for disconnection (mid-week) and a confirmation number with the estimate my last bill would be a prorated $6 for the few days I went beyond the month I'd just paid for. I asked the rep three times: the auto-pay bill just charged to me is my last full bill and the next, and final, bill will be for $6? Yes, she said. Three times.
I get a monthly auto-pay notice and it's the full $45. Before my BP jumps 20 points, and since I've been on Comcast all week, I plug the DSL modem in to see if it syncs. BOOM! No one disconnected service.
So is it Dyson level? Let's put it this way: If Centurylink were a streetwalker and you paid $45 you'd be watching your toes depart your urethra.

CL fraudulently claiming 10/1 speeds in my CAF II block, for 3 yrs
So I've always been puzzled by the FCC broadband map and the speeds listed in my census block. I've only now realized that these are self reported speeds by the telecos in a FCC Form 477, which seems to be regularly updated with the last public one coming from July 2017. CL never reported what they offered in my area until they got CAF II money in 2015, even though I've had the same internet with them since 2010 and before. After they signed up for CAF II they labeled my block as receiving 11/0.896 in both the Dec 2015 v1 and Dec 2015 v2 Form. For Jun 2016 v2 they claimed 10/0.768. Finally in the July2017v1, they claim 10/1 is available in my census block as shown in the provided picture. Have to wonder what the upcoming Form will have me listed under.
(I have blurred the map but the purple area is my census block which allegedly someone gets 10/1.)
[att=1]Each dot represents an address. When entering grey addresses, it told me to call them. I guess to maybe get sub-1.5Mbit speeds.
Now I do know that the FCC claims that stated speeds in a census block might not be provided to the entire block, but it's pretty obvious that they don't offer 10/1 to any of my census block. But have to decided to claim they do for the past 3 years. To prove this to myself I entered my neighbors addresses into CL's own internet availability tool. Seems like they stop offering 10Mbit at the city limits, yet they tell the FCC differently. I quickly looked over my neighboring census block and CL seems to be lying over there too.

C1100Z reset with back push button does not reset WIFI
I have tried to reset multiple times a used C1100Z that I purchased on *bay and the custom SSID corresponding to SSID1 did not reset to the sticker defaults. Eventually a browser admin factory reset made it go away. Is this the way it is supposed to work ? For me factory settings should be the ones on the sticker.

[Qwest] Screenshots - C1100Z - slow upload speed - How to improve?
I've been on CL for a couple of years now, no real problems. The modem is reliable. I've always used it as the combined modem and router. My home network is a couple of ethernet PC's and 5 wireless devices.
I live rural. CenturyLink does not offer true high speed DSL out here. We are quite remote, 30 miles from the nearest town. I need to call CL tomorrow and ask what speeds I should be getting.
The C1100Z says I'm getting 23Mbps down and 0.6 up, but other test sites say it's more like 17 and 0.5 Mbps on average.
Honestly, I can live with 17 down. I wouldn't mind getting a little faster, but 17 is livable.
My upload speed is just too slow.
We started doing some limited videoconferencing lately, and it is sometimes sketchy. Most sources say you need a consistent 1Mbps or faster upstream rate to maintain decent VC. I do have QoS enabled on the modem to prioritize voip traffic.
I attached screenshots from my modem admin pages.
Can the experts here see anything that stands out, such as SNR, Attenuation, Power, Channel Type, CRC errors, FEC Corrections, etc?
Any tips for getting faster up speeds on CenturyLink?
Thanks!

724 kb/s upload speed, and it costs me $45/month?
Was trying to upload a video to youtube and after 30 hours I had to wonder if everyone went through this. So I asked around at some forums. They laughed at me. They said my ISP was a joke. I agree. It's been an overall nightmare compared to my old ISP, but now this..
So, what's the deal.
I'd have someone come out and look at the setup, but last time I did that I was charged $100 without warning. Guy was here 10 minutes. Is CLink just this terrible, or is there something that can be done to get an upload speed anywhere near respectable.. you know, worth $45/month??

C2100T/C2100Z HPNA viewable in GUI?
Hey guys, wanting to try an experiment on my DSL connection.
I have Windstream and i'm pretty sure I can take any modem (including centurylink modems) and plug it in, throw my PPPoE credentials in, and be golden.
My question, as I have coax and power already run to my shed, is the HPNA config page open on the Technicolor C2100T or the Zyxel C2100Z?
Separate question, is the VoIP section also open and viewable on these modems? It could come in handy.
Third question, what are y'alls suggestions? Technicolor or ZyXel?

In ramseur they get 60 ive called and asked for just 20 but they say there isnt enough bonding on my road for 20. 10mbps is not enough for 4 people trying to use netflix or game online and there is no other option spectrum is 2 miles on either side of my road it just doesnt come down my 3 mile road. Ive also contacted them and no help. Got nothing else to try other than moving so i thought id ask here to see if there is any thing i can do. Thanks

getting re charge for them plug in other line from nic box
to do a sort explain.
i had a 40mb bonded line. with modem/router
eveyrthing was good. then got prism. they simple change router
for it. also it was dynamic. so it really keep the same speed.
so after years i got rid of prism.
then both lines went dead.( super long story and tech issue)
then the tech unplug 1 line and i then only got 25mb connetion.
they tech told me he had to gimp the line due to getting ride
prism. now line shows up it can do 40mb again. again funny
since i already had it. and they going to charge me 100 to
simple connect the 1 un plug line in the nic box.
not happy with them triple dipping for money.
also they tried super dam(using it in context) hard for modem rental. saying i need one.
which the one i already have can do bonded and the back up one.

Problem with C2000T Modem
Hello all! I am having trouble with my C2000T. Whenever the power goes out (which has happened a few times lately due to construction in my area) it will reset to defaults and turn off bridge mode (I have it bridged to a Nighthawk router). Wasn't a big deal to just log back into the GUI and change it before, but now I have a different GUI login page that has two password fields, shows the wrong date, and nothing happens when I click apply! Anyone encounter this issue before? Attached a screenshot of what the login page looks like. Please and thank you for any advice!

[Qwest] C1100Z configuration
5Mbps service going live at the end of the month.
I'm assuming copper in this old apartment building, even though there may be fiber to the curb. I'm just a mile from the DSLAM, in any case.
So I'm planning to bridge my refurb C1100Z to my late-model Netgear router. I has some questions. (I talked to a CL technical representative, and he was not particularly helpful.)
Is there a potential performance penalty for running round RJ12 cable about 15' from the wall to the C1100Z? Or should I stay as close to the wall as possible and run Ethernet all the way to the router?
There are five Ethernet ports on the C1100Z — four yellow, and one white which is marked WAN/LAN.
Which one should connect to the router — any of the yellow ones, or the white one?
Will these Ethernet ports be visible from the router so that I can, say, attach a NAS device?
Finally: Does anyone have the password to the busybox shell via telnet? I can connect via telnet after turning LAN-side console on, but when I execute sh, I'm prompted for a password. My admin password to the browser UI is rejected.
Thank you, in advance. Knowing the answers ahead will save me a lot of time and probably frustration in setting this up.

[Embarq] 30 mbps dsl pretending to be fiber?
Just for fun I put in my address on the centurylink website (see attached image) and lo and behold it says i qualify for “30 mbps advanced fiber technology ”. This sounds different than the usual 10mbps and sometimes 20mbps dsl offerings that it qualified for in the past and it requires a $99 tech install fee.
So if I had to guess.....its dsl right? I mean why would they offer fiber at only such a low speed? What are the tiers even like? 30mbps down/1mbps up for $45?

Updated Minneapolis speed test map
I re-ran the addresses contained in the map in this thread: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29723767-Minneapolis-Centurylink-Speed-map-Including-Fiber-rollout-
(Direct link: http://www.easymapmaker.com/map/6347814ae5d946a2fcc4cd60647ca456)
New map from data gathered last night: http://www.easymapmaker.com/map/cl_speed_1-15-2015
So there are now traces of gig internet in Hopkins and St. Paul (uncheck everything but 1000 at the bottom to see them).
I have a python script that runs the addresses to check their speeds, and I hope to update the map from time to time to see the progression of CL fiber.
-----------------------------------------------
Edit 5/11/2016:
Instructions on how to run this yourself using Vagrant, Ansible and VirtualBox:
https://github.com/mtdoyle/CLSpeedPhantomJS/blob/master/README.md
I have included my giant list of addresses that will be downloaded as part of the instructions above.
Let me know if anything doesn't work!
NOTE: running this script with a large amount of addresses takes a LOT of bandwidth. Each run for me eats up somewhere between 20-40Gb of data. If your internet is capped, you might want to only use a smaller subset of addresses.

Stagnate/Degrading Rural areas
I moved into a small very rural town 3 years ago. I immediately signed up for CenturyLink because my landlord told me I was not allowed to install Spectrum internet (he didn't want any holes, etc in the house). Thankfully CenturyLink offered 60/5 so I was mostly happy (although the backhaul was definitely oversold because during peak hours I was lucky to see 1/2 of that.)
Fast forward to today, I now own a home about 1/2 mile away. When I moved I was forced to downgrade to 25/2 because the old copper lines that went under a bridge were not able to support anymore than that. Again the backhaul was terrible and during peak times I was lucky to see 5/256k and a lot of times it was under 1mbps download.
I switched to spectrum and while their download speeds are consistent, I am getting really tired of their constant raise the rate game so I called CenturyLink back thinking that its been long enough (the bridge was rebuilt and supposedly according to a local tech the aging lines under the bridge were replaced). I'm still only able to get 25/2 and in fact they downgraded what the house I was renting is able to get to 25/2 as well.
So my question is this...What the heck has CenturyLink been doing for the last couple of years? It seems to me that they are ignoring rural areas. Its too bad because if I could get it I would sign up for their 100/30 service (and save some bucks as well). My dream is that they call me (I signed up for upgrade notifications) and tell me that FTTH is available because I love the idea of symmetrical gigabit for $65/mth.
Are there any ISP's that really are upgrading rural areas? I know my options are limited to what is available right now but I really want more options.

Help getting Fiber
Good evening everyone! I moved to a brand new neighborhood about a year and a half ago. The whole community that I live at (except for my street for some odd reason) has gigabit fiber readily available, even as they were building houses on the other streets. When I moved, I was excited to order the service. I ordered the service online shortly after moving and my address shows that it qualifies for gigabit speed internet. About a week and some change later, the tech came through but informed me that it wasn't available on my street just yet.
A few weeks later (towards the end of 2017) I saw some trucks roll through my street carrying a thick orange cable (I'm assuming it's the conduit?) and saw people placing orange flags and digging through people's yards. They got halfway through my street but for some reason stopped. I tried ordering service twice last year, however when the techs come out they still tell me that "it's coming" and that the fiber is only "two houses down". They did install a gray box on the side of my house (I'm also assuming it's the Optical Terminator) the last time they came through late last year though, which gives me some hope.
Fast forward to Feb. 2019 and for some reason, they still haven't even made a dent to finishing rolling out the fiber, however all of the houses on my street have been finished being built a couple of months ago. I attached some pictures that I took back in April of 2018 that shows the equipment they have placed. The equipment has been sitting like this on my street for almost a year now, untouched.
Is there someone that I can contact to see what's going on with the rollout and why it still hasn't been completed and possibly get an ETA? I appreciate any help that you guys can give me! I would love to take advantage of the $65 gig promotion they have going on right now.
