Just noticed today CL is now offering a 500/500 plan at my apartment in Seattle. This had to have launched just in the past week. So now I can get:
1Gig - $79.95
500/500 - $69.95
100/50 - $64.95
40/5 - $39.95
That pricing is silly, in my opinion. $5 difference between 100/50 and 500/500?

Speed difference between address with service vs address without
A new DSLAM as just installed in front of my house. I was checking speeds on the Centurylink website and saw that an address without DSL service can now signup for 80/20 but an address with current DSL service can only get 6/1. The addresses are right next to each other and on the same side of the new DSLAM. The current DSL service is connected about 8,000 feet away to an old DSLAM. It looks like the address without DSL service would be connected to the new DSLAM.
Is there a way to get the 80/20 if you currently have service? If I were to cancel my service and then signup again do you think it would then let me signup for the 80/20? I know a suggestion will be to call Centurylink but they, as usual, do not have a clue how to do this.

CL fraudulently claiming 10/1 speeds in my CAF II block, for 3 yrs
So I've always been puzzled by the FCC broadband map and the speeds listed in my census block. I've only now realized that these are self reported speeds by the telecos in a FCC Form 477, which seems to be regularly updated with the last public one coming from July 2017. CL never reported what they offered in my area until they got CAF II money in 2015, even though I've had the same internet with them since 2010 and before. After they signed up for CAF II they labeled my block as receiving 11/0.896 in both the Dec 2015 v1 and Dec 2015 v2 Form. For Jun 2016 v2 they claimed 10/0.768. Finally in the July2017v1, they claim 10/1 is available in my census block as shown in the provided picture. Have to wonder what the upcoming Form will have me listed under.
(I have blurred the map but the purple area is my census block which allegedly someone gets 10/1.)
[att=1]Each dot represents an address. When entering grey addresses, it told me to call them. I guess to maybe get sub-1.5Mbit speeds.
Now I do know that the FCC claims that stated speeds in a census block might not be provided to the entire block, but it's pretty obvious that they don't offer 10/1 to any of my census block. But have to decided to claim they do for the past 3 years. To prove this to myself I entered my neighbors addresses into CL's own internet availability tool. Seems like they stop offering 10Mbit at the city limits, yet they tell the FCC differently. I quickly looked over my neighboring census block and CL seems to be lying over there too.

CL speed tests are unable to keep up with 1Gbps service
I cut over to 1Gbps fiber a few weeks back. When the tech installed the service, their internal speed test showed 900Mbps+ bi-directional. Later, when I attempted to run my own speed tests against CL's public-facing speed test servers, I could never exceed 500Mbps down (sometimes no more than 250Mbps) while upload was consistently around 900Mbps. Several 3rd party test servers could hit 900Mbps+ bi-directional. Multiple, simultaneous speed tests to the CL servers showed a predicable decrease in performance per test, i.e. 2x tests @ 250Mbps vs. 1x test @ 500Mbps.
I contacted CL and was informed that it's a known issue and was being worked on. There is no ETA on when their speed test servers will be able to handle 1Gbps customers. I was unable to get any additional detail despite multiple attempts.
My only concern is that the "official," on-net means to validate performance doesn't work for a segment of their customers.
At any rate, I thought it might be useful to post in case someone else stumbles on the same issue. If anyone out there is "in the know," I'd love to hear a little more detail.

WiFi slower than expected
Just switched from Comcast to CenturyLink VDSL2 bonded. I have an Asus RT-AC68U router (stock firmware) that was connected to the cable modem. Comcast service was 55 down/5 up. Speed tests over wifi were showing 60-65 down and 6-7 up. Now I have the Asus taking care of PPPOE and connected to the Actiontec C1900A which is in bridge mode untagged (wifi is off). Speeds are supposed to be 80/10. Over ethernet I get 78-80 down and 9-10 up so I know I'm getting advertised speeds. However, when I connect via wifi and run a speed test I get anywhere from 25-60 down and 9-10 up. I would normally chalk this up to interference but Comcast was consistently showing advertised speeds over wifi. Plus the upload speeds over ethernet and wifi stay around 9-10 so I'd expect it to be lower if it was interference related. It's just the download speeds that are so far off. The only thing that has changed is the router handling PPPOE. Is this expected behavior or is there some way to get better speeds over wifi?

CenturyLink running fiber in Mount Vernon, Ohio
I noticed today to my pleasant surprise a truck overlashing fiber optic cable on CenturyLink's copper plant down my road today. They are Ohio Line Construction, LLC based out of Loudonville, Ohio. They said they were contracted by CL to run fiber optic to improve the internet. They didn't tell me what type of deployment or plans CL had for the fiber such as FTTP, new remote DSLAMs, Cell tower backhaul, etc. The guy said he anticipated FTTP but it's up to CL and CL didn't give them the details. They told me call CL for details and that CL would be the ones in charge of splicing and running the line to my house. I was tempted to ask them how much to go ahead and run it to my house, but figured they'd have to bury it to do that as if they went aerial, the pole in my yard is owned by AEP. I live a few miles south of Mount Vernon.

Stagnate/Degrading Rural areas
I moved into a small very rural town 3 years ago. I immediately signed up for CenturyLink because my landlord told me I was not allowed to install Spectrum internet (he didn't want any holes, etc in the house). Thankfully CenturyLink offered 60/5 so I was mostly happy (although the backhaul was definitely oversold because during peak hours I was lucky to see 1/2 of that.)
Fast forward to today, I now own a home about 1/2 mile away. When I moved I was forced to downgrade to 25/2 because the old copper lines that went under a bridge were not able to support anymore than that. Again the backhaul was terrible and during peak times I was lucky to see 5/256k and a lot of times it was under 1mbps download.
I switched to spectrum and while their download speeds are consistent, I am getting really tired of their constant raise the rate game so I called CenturyLink back thinking that its been long enough (the bridge was rebuilt and supposedly according to a local tech the aging lines under the bridge were replaced). I'm still only able to get 25/2 and in fact they downgraded what the house I was renting is able to get to 25/2 as well.
So my question is this...What the heck has CenturyLink been doing for the last couple of years? It seems to me that they are ignoring rural areas. Its too bad because if I could get it I would sign up for their 100/30 service (and save some bucks as well). My dream is that they call me (I signed up for upgrade notifications) and tell me that FTTH is available because I love the idea of symmetrical gigabit for $65/mth.
Are there any ISP's that really are upgrading rural areas? I know my options are limited to what is available right now but I really want more options.

Centurylink Online Security suite substituted w/Norton Antivirus
Recently installed DSL with great results.
However, my "Welcome to centurylink.net" email on 4/11/2019, a "CenturyLink Online Security" was advertised promising "...Top-ranked virus and spyware protection. Anti-spam, firewall, parental controls..."
Rather than "easy installation," a support technician was required to install Norton Anti-virus. This was only one of the components of the security packaged advertised in the email. See photo attached.

Troy, MO Fiber Deployment?
There are a few directional drilling companies in town putting in plastic conduit on nearly every street. Spectrum has gigabit available nearly everywhere in town but it is hard to find CenturyLink offering anything above 10/768k. My house on Main St near the center of town has 1.5Mbps down as the highest speed offered through CenturyLink.
We already have natural gas everywhere, so I'm wondering if this is CenturyLink bringing fiber to the area? Anyway to confirm that, or just find a tech around town sometime?

[Embarq] What do these mean?
Can someone look at these and tell me what theoretical speeds I could get? The link speed in the screen cap says 6/.8 but only 1.5 service is sold at this address and is all that shows on speed tests.

Updated Minneapolis speed test map
I re-ran the addresses contained in the map in this thread: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29723767-Minneapolis-Centurylink-Speed-map-Including-Fiber-rollout-
(Direct link: http://www.easymapmaker.com/map/6347814ae5d946a2fcc4cd60647ca456)
New map from data gathered last night: http://www.easymapmaker.com/map/cl_speed_1-15-2015
So there are now traces of gig internet in Hopkins and St. Paul (uncheck everything but 1000 at the bottom to see them).
I have a python script that runs the addresses to check their speeds, and I hope to update the map from time to time to see the progression of CL fiber.
-----------------------------------------------
Edit 5/11/2016:
Instructions on how to run this yourself using Vagrant, Ansible and VirtualBox:
https://github.com/mtdoyle/CLSpeedPhantomJS/blob/master/README.md
I have included my giant list of addresses that will be downloaded as part of the instructions above.
Let me know if anything doesn't work!
NOTE: running this script with a large amount of addresses takes a LOT of bandwidth. Each run for me eats up somewhere between 20-40Gb of data. If your internet is capped, you might want to only use a smaller subset of addresses.

CL GPON fiber would like to connect using a Ubiquiti Nano G
Hey Guys- Live in Phoenix. I have CL GPON fiber and would like to connect using a Ubiquiti Nano G as my “router” (for IPoE settings and VLAN 201 tagging) and by pass the CenturyLink “modem’ (Calix 844G) all together but I can not get this setup to work. I tried setting up the Nano G configuring with the ISP IP addy and VLAN tagging 201 but no success. Then tried putting Calix 844G in “Transparent Bridging” mode and hooked directly to my USG Gateway. I let the Calix handle the VLAN tagging. Still no luck. Now, I can’t log into the Calix 884G (192.168.0.1) anymore. The GUI just times out in my browser. How do I get this thing out of bridge mode??? Thank you for your help.

I need serious help here
For the past 3 days in the evening my modem will start retraining over and over and over again until late the next morning. Throughout the day it is solid and no issues.
DSL status shows tons of crc errors when it begins.
CenturyLink phone and chat support are unhelpful as usual.
Goodness gracious I miss CTLJoey that used to be here.
I will have to upload that stats page later. No internet and not strong enough phone signal to do it

Is the C1100Z good as plain modem for 25mbps
I currently have a PK5001Z with 10mbps service connected to my home router. I do have a pair of C1100Z that I got for nothing a while back, but never installed. I have a couple of questions:
- Can I replace the modem configuring the C1100Z with the same parameters without having to call Centurylink support? Do they need to re-provision MACs or something like that?
- We are thinking upgrading to 25mbps in near future. Does the C1100Z support 25mbps ? If not, I may skip replacing the modem.
I will appreciate any comments

Help with stalling service and high error count
So I've made numerous phone calls to CenturyLink support over the last couple weeks complaining my service stalling a couple times an hour for minutes at a time. They insisted that the issue was on my end, disregarding all my speed tests, and common sense arguments, blaming my wifi load or other ridiculous issues. My DSL Up/Down connection status says it's at full speed (40.1 down/3.8 up) but my throughput intermittently drops to near zero. They sent a tech out once, who said they migrated me to a different slice on the switch in our complex or something like that. That resolved the issue for about a week. Then the issues came back. They refuse to send a tech again, saying he resolved the issue last time, and then said it must be a modem issue and sent me a new modem. No surprise, it didn't fix the issue.
I started running the diagnostic test in the modem (C3000Z) while the freezes are happening and I first noticed one or both DNS #1 and #2 connections were failing. I swtiched from CL's DNS IPs to OpenDNS which appears to have resolved the DNS failures but not the overarching issues with stalling. I kept digging and found that in under 7 hours I have racked up 35,960,150 near end RS FEC Corrections (Yes, 35 million), 1,847 Far end RS FEC corrections and 1,653,546 near end 30 minute FEC corrections.
If I do a ping test through the modem or a traceroute during a stall I get back pings in the 400's or simply a failure to connect to the host and a failed test. If I do a speed test through a browser during a stall I get high double digit pings, jitter up to the 70s and up/down throughput around .5 Mbps. Tests during normal operation usually get a ping of 20 with single digit jitter and an average 36Mb down and 3.7MB up. These are both on wired and 5ghz wifi connections.
Can anyone advise me as to what may be going on and how I can fix it? Thank you.

CL Gigabit Fiber, Calix 717GE ONT - Is Connection GPON or AE?
I was recently set up with CenturyLink Gigabit FTTH. During the installation, the technician told me that, unlike with my previous Comcast service, which is a shared connection, the new CL service is a dedicated connection back to the central office. To me, that implies that it's an AE (Active Ethernet) connection and not GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network).
The ONT is a Calix 717GE, which web research shows can be set up to do either AE or GPON.
Does anyone know how I can determine what type of connection I have? Can I connect to one of the Ethernet ports on the ONT and take a look at the configuration? Thanks.

Centurylink Internet light flashing red
So i've been having issues for 6 days now with Centurylink. I have two modems because one was not enough coverage for my house. One is working fine. But last thursday after some thunderstorms, my internet light started flashing red. DSL is solid green. After several chats they gave me 2 different login credentials and one agent asked if I wanted to bridge the connection. I said NO i just want my other modem to work. We were disconnected and a technician was suppose to come on Thursday, but I got a text today saying they had came and "resolved" the issue, but I never saw anyone come. Is there anyone who can help walk me through some steps i can try on my modem login page? They gave me 2 sets of PPP credentials, and ive changed pppoe to ipoe is rdsl2 and all that jazz but it is still not working I just need someone who is more technologically advanced than me to walk me through some steps because centurylink is offering NO help at ALL thank you

Unable to hold a stable connection
Good evening all,
I moved into a new house in Morrison CO (80465) about 6 months ago and since then i have not been able to hold a steady connection (40/5). I have had techs out several times with no resolution. They have replaced parts in the NIT, changed circuits, routed to another dslam and switched service ports. I have been thru 3 modems (Netgear D7000, Zyxel 3000z and currently on a Actiontec C3000a; Swapped in about 2 weeks ago) DSL drops between 2-6 times daily where the internet light goes out and dsl lights flash (retraining errors typically). I am now working with a "chronic" tech and still cannot seem to get any further.
Modem is the only device connected in the NIT. I have ran the modem thru the service port there and thru a cat5 line running from the NIT that punches down to a wall plate in my office, line is ~25 from NIT. The house has had some settling issues near the NIT, so thinking the line may be pinched there he put in a temp line from the tel box in my back yard to the NIT. This changed my retrain errors from loss of signal link to just straight re trains.
The tech is pretty fond of blaming my internal equipment, Ubiquiti Edge Router X & UAP AC Lite; purchased 1/2019. I have ran in almost every config i can think of an the issue remains (CL modem only, double nat with er-x and modem bridged with er-x running pppoe). He has me switching off internal devices inside thinking they could be the issue :uhh:. Im at a loss here and would very much appreciate some insight. Modem stats attached for the last 24 hours running all devices thru the factory reset C3000a. If any additional logs or info is needed i will be happy to provide.
