Double UP the extra wires inside CAT6 to improve signal?

$

Hello, I have been doing some research and I cant seem to find the proper information to suggest I can or can't do this. However, I found a eHow article suggesting using the extra wires helps signal. So, can we debate this please? Are there ways I can test it out myself to see for sure? I have the time and plenty of length of cable haha. Below is the article that clearly states to "DOUBLE UP" on the wires if you have them. http://www.ehow.com/how_6358692_wire-up-dsl-phone-line.html Ok, here is the setup. The C1000A has its very own dedicated Cat6 cabling. Nothing else is serviced on that cat6 line. This cable also has the inside plastic partition thingy in case it matters. Currently, I am using the Green wire going to the green connection on an old Surface Mount RJ11 phone jack (btw, I need a better jack because the wires inside this one are super thin, any ideas?). The accompanying Green/white is going to the red of course. So, can I use the green+green/white as one single wire twisted together and installed onto the green connection? And same with the Orange+Orange/white going to the Red connection? To help transfer signal? Will I lose the self shielding effect if I do this? Also, where can I get a really good Surface Mount RJ11 Jack to use just for the modem connection? I already have a 100mhz shielded Belkin RJ11 cable, but I do not want a ANY weak link and this 35 year old jack looks like serious utter crap, lol. Thanks for any help...

[Qwest] Long round trips with DNS server on CenturyLink/Quest (s

Although I get what CenturyLink considers a good connection (11Mbps up/.8 down) I still think that things are slow. Often I am waiting for ads to be filled in before I can fill out an online form or read my yahoo mail. I think I have found the problem and I welcome anyone that could help me with a resolution. I am a residential CenturyLink customer on the east side of Tucson, AZ. Here is the ping summary from 100 pings to my assigned DNS server. Ping statistics for 205.171.3.25: Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 99, Lost = 1 (1% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 25ms, Maximum = 2736ms, Average = 435ms This means that my web page browser is some times waiting almost 3 seconds to get an address from the DNS server! It waits an average of 0.5 seconds! Both of these number make me feel that there is something wrong with the service. Looking at the 100 pings I see that the times ride like a roller coaster. They go up, increasing and increasing, then they go down, decreasing and decreasing. Has anyone else seen this?

Bonded VDSL2 Wiring Question

CenturyLink called me today and instead of fixing the bad line outside, they're offering to do Bonded VDSL2 into my condo. I currently am paying for 40/5, and can pull the 40Mbps no problem, but my modem randomly re-sync's and if it's at night it will sync ~3.8Mbps upload with times of unresponsiveness between 1pm-5pm (when it's really hot outside), and unless i check it and happen to be home during 1-5 to reboot the modem i cannot remote back into my files nor use my SlingBox when i'm at work or in between classes at ASU, so until the tech gets here on the 12th to swap me to bonded 40Mbps i'm stuck on 20/896k as a "temp fix" I currently have cat3 wire coming in with two pair of wire (one orange/white and blue/white), i'm wondering if they can do the Bonded VDSL2 over the same cat3 wire or will that cause cross talk issues? Other than having to buy the C2000 modem for $100, is there anything else i should know about getting a pair bonded line?

I've had CenturyLink 12Mbps service (12122/896) for about 18 months, This morning I did a speed test and my line is faster! Looked in my modem and it's now synch'ed at 15869/889. Guess I'll enjoy it as long as it lasts :) -- Don't feed trolls--it only makes them grow!

I have notice outage spikes in the pings for the east coast New Jersey monitor late evening to midnight, although I did not see a noticeable loss of connection. http://ny-monitor.dslreports.com/r3/cricket/grapher?target=/ping-pktloss/237422&range=d:w When you look at the email report you see this graph reflected in the New Jersey email data but not San Franscico email data Here is the recent email report, but the last 1/2 dozen have been pretty much the same. Avilla, IN Service quality bad again. Fixed 1st time by FCC

During peak hours 5pm-12:30am. I'm pinging yahoo at an average of 500ms. Google @ 150ms. Bandwidth ranges from .7 to 10 down and .3 to .76 up. I usually will ping 30-40 to chicago, google, yahoo with 10 down and .78 up. I just started having problems during peak times on 4/28/2013. Even during non peak hours everything is at least 10% higher on pings and 10% lower on bandwidth. They said in order to consider this a problem you have to average 300ms on the ping... which 100ms ping isn't acceptable to me. If for whatever reason they won't fix this issue within a 24-48 hour window as I was told on the phone after arguing to get the line looked at, I'll file my seconda(2nd) FCC complaint against Centurylink. I've documented everything since I started having poor service and I won't hesitate to file after the 48hr window.

Got a automated call saying they fixed a problem and restart my modem. Now fast path is turned into interleaved. Why would they switch fast path off? I didn't call for any problems.

Another odd ball intermediary protocol that cause more headaches than actually translating to actual IPV6. It would just be more simple to use dual stack IPV4/IPV6 equipment and be done with it. What addresses that are mapped out to IPv4 will not be translated to IPv6 in the near time future so dual stack is the way to go to get all the true benefits of IPv6 without protocol overhead and encapsulation. Industry- just do it and it will be the end of all the bickering, dual stack it now.

I experience a drop in connection a few times a day. I have a 6 meg plan, my modem syncs at 5836 down, 572 up. (fyi, my modem is the sprint branded zyxel 660) would a new modem help? The online speedtests show 4365 down and 470 up. are these connection stats bad?? I'm just trying to be informed before calling in. or, is there any specific questions I should ask them to do/check? thanks for any info/tips rick

[CenturyTel] lost modem

So I moved apartments and transfered services. I needed a new modem which was sent out and I also recieved labels to send my old modem I was leasing back. I called in July to ask about if I had a bill onmy old account. The person said no and that I would be recieving a check for $14, .the end of July I got an email saying I didn't pay my bill. I'm being charged $105 for a modem I sent back, that they claimed to never have recieved. The UPS store never gave me a reciept and the customer service person at century link basically called me a liar and was like well you never returned your 1st modem...I told her we never rented our 1st modem and that we had bought one online, I have my amazon order to prove it. I'm really upset with this whole situation and definitely considering a new provider, that has respect and isn't shady by trying to make some extra money. Reading other posts, this seems like it happens often...

Once again the sun is down and so is my Internet. This issue has been reported so many times they are discounting this months service 100%. As a company you would think something would be repaired. Every tech says "works perfect." Few hours later here we go again. What do I have to do to get a good Internet provider in the area?

[Qwest] Modem reset and no Internet

Have Centurylink DSL with Actiontec GT701-WG modem/router. Internet was working and I reset the modem and the Internet stopped working. Ethernet and DSL lights lit and solid but no Internet light. Went into modem config and put in username and password but got a connection timed out error. Called Centurylink and they said they weren't seeing the DSL connection and needed to send a tech out in 3 days to check. They weren't sure why my DSL light was solid. Any ideas? Not sure how it could have been working and then just resetting the modem somehow made the DSL connection not work with Qwest?

I have had connectivity problems for over a year. I have had the drop to the house replaced, whole house filter installed, dedicated line to modem installed, remote terminal card replaced, main terminal port changed and reprogramed. I have talked to many at Embark and still never seem to get anyone that appears really knowledgable. Some basic info: country location north of Kansas City, last house from RT (2 1/2 - 3 miles from fiber fed RT), connect throttled to 6M, direct test from tech shows 7-7.5M, latest Zyxel PK5001Z modem. Problem: DSL speed when working runs 5.5-6M but can drop to .8-1.5M and then return to 6M in a matter of minutes (this plays havoc if working from home or streaming a movie). I have run many, many speed tests and this behavior is what I see. Also, I can run a speed test and show 6M then turn on Netflix and have it drop instantly to .8-1.5M. This seems to be an awful large drop. Sometime it recovers in 10-15 minutes or it never connects and I have to shut off the TV. One of the help desk techs said I had line problems. I have tried packet tests and some come back with 25% loss. Any help, tests I can do, or ideas would be appreciated.

Centurylink Gigabit

Looks like Centurylink is truly going forward with their gigabit service in Omaha. Anyone have access to it yet? It sounds like it is already available in some neighborhoods or will be very shortly. They have a short commercial for the service uploaded on Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdN20RBo5eQ http://www.whatisagig.com/m/p/ctl/gig/index.asp I hope they get their desired results from this trial and expand it to other markets.

[CenturyTel] Service is OUT Again

CenturyLink DSL is out as of 10:30 a.m. Sunday, August 11th, 2013 for Southern Olathe, Kansas. I use this service for my business, needless to say I'm not connecting through CenturyLink today. Since this is not the first time for CenturyLink's DSL service to go out, I have the Old & Trusty VERIZON Jetpack to cover for service interruptions such as this. What a shame I am paying for a DSL service that is not functioning, & paying for a Jetpack, too. I just called CenturyLink and an automated message for my telephone number said CenturyLink is aware of a problem, and they are working on correcting it, and plan for service to be up & running by Monday, August 12th at 11:05 A.M. Oh, thanks! ---sarcasm Further, if I could switch to another company for DSL service I would, but CenturyLink is the only service available in my area. What a monopoly!

Bandwidth Exhaustion in Texas!

Once again it seems the Chandler area is having bandwidth issues. My lowest speed has been .05 Mbps and the highest around 3. I called Century-link earlier today finally got to speak to a level 2 tech, and he got in touch with a engineer. So once again we are seeing terrible speeds and high pings. I'm just amazed this wasn't a known problem. Do they not have software that alerts them to bandwidth problems? Just thought I'd let everyone know.

I had issues when I started my service with Century Link, they came out and fixed now almost two years later, connection is back to being terrible, I've wired directly into the modem, I'm not sure if I can call, will they actually do anything over high ping and packet loss?
