Well a little bit after centurylink buried my dsl line and they inspected it a couple weeks after I started getting horrible lag in my games (sometimes drops) and slow loading on pages. I already had a talk with tech support and all they did was change my wireless channel which didnt help much. So im stuck on this any ideas

Centurylink throttling Netflix?

Ever since I got the 40/20 speeds netflix doesn't even want to play at 1mb. I had 6-7 before and it played fine at 5mb or so. But now it doesn't want to play and on my PC speedtests get 38/18 so it's not my speeds. I can tether it to my phone and get 8mb no problem but on Centurylink not even close.

we have been having issues with our dsl off and on for about a month. the dsl will drop randomly and it gets worse when it rains. we have called centurylink 4 times and they say that they set up a ticket for a tech to come out but they never show up. they either call us and say, sorry for the inconvenience your service is now fixed, or i never here from them at all. the last tech that called last week said he would come out and check are lines but he never showed up. idk what else to do, centurylink is are only option and they obviously don't care about us out in the boonies

CenturyLink FiOS?

Someone just came to my door (southeast unincorporated King County, zip code 98042, near Kent/Covington/Maple Valley/Black Diamond) and told my wife that CenturyLink has installed "100Mbps FiOS" (more likely VDSL2 from what I can tell?) in my neighborhood, and that they are offering it for $40/month. CenturyLink's web site says they only have 1.5Mbit and 7Mbit DSL available at my address, so I find this confusing. In fact, their web site doesn't mention anything above 40Mbps for anybody - let alone 100Mbps. I currently have Comcast 50Mbps service, which works fine, but they just raised rates again so it's good to consider my options. Does anyone have experience with CenturyLink "FiOS" in the greater Seattle/Tacoma area? Does anyone know why someone would come to my door to tell me about it, while their website shows no mention of it? Apparently he told my wife that the reason he was going door-to-door bugging everyone at dinner time was because "nobody knows about this service". Well they shouldn't be surprised when they don't advertise it anywhere!

So I've already fought with centrylink when I first got service. All the houses in my neighborhood was getting at least 20 Mbps where my cul de sac of four houses could only get 1.5. Well they got me up to 12 and from my call with them earlier, they say I should be at 20 now. Well I was on their site looking at upload speeds as I'm still sitting at 896 and most house can get higher now. I've been told by a few reps that there are no upgrades scheduled. I'm thinking they skipped my cul de sac again. My issue with this is no one can direct me to who I can talk to about it. Anyone know a more local number I could call? I live just south of Denver My other issue is they say I should be getting 20mbps but the fastest I get on speed tests is no higher than 8 on a good day, more around 5 during peak hours. I've reset the modem more than I've cared for. We are primarily a wireless house with iPads and iPhones and rarely use a laptop. I have not wired into the modem as I'm not sure what exactly to do to get more details. If someone could direct me on what to do to get more details, I can do that and post what the results are. I'm pretty busy and don't really have time to deal with a tech visit they would probably charge me for so want to try and figure out as much detail on my own. Any help on way my speeds are low is greatly appreciated.

[Prism TV] Prism TV: Thanks but no thanks!

Prism is just making its way into the Phoenix area. So I inquired about pricing since I have CL DSL and telephone. A bundle with Prism would only save me merely $13 a month! And given the overwhelming negative reviews in cities where it operates, I wouldn't go near it. AND BEWARE: CL does not have 24/7 customer support--no evenings, no weekends! How bogus is that? Isn't that when most people watch TV? I'll stick with Direct TV--had it since October 2012 and so far no issues.

[CenturyTel] Pooooooor Customer Service

I was excited to get this service here in Omaha, NE because we have been raped by Cox for many years. Raising prices and poor service. I had service hooked up on July 3rd with a Temp line in my backyard that they said would be gone in a few days. On July 5th called cutomer service to get help to get my account setup to get email address to utilize the feature Prism on the go. They could not do this as my account was in pending status, and I needed my first bill to be able to set this up and I would have to wait. I emailed their corporate email support, which claimed a response of 24 to 48 hours. ha.ha. On July 15th I get response saying I don't have to wait for bill that I could contact customer support and I should have email address assigned at time of service install. I contact customer service again, and after 2 hours of being on hold several times and transferred many times they tell me my account was created wrong and the only people that could fix this were closed. They assured me that they would have someone fix this and to give 24 to 48 hours and I should be able to get email by going through process outlined. 2 days go by and still no response from the email replies I have sent to them, so I call again tonight. They tell me that my account is still locked by a person named Brad and he does not answer his phone and no one can do anything to fix it. The internet service is fast, but if you are not lucky and have everything just right don't expect any resolution anytime soon.

Increase capacity of the internet activity log

$

I have an Actiontec Q1000 modem/router from Qwest. I know how to check the internet activity (through utilities => web activity log) but the log is very short - maybe 100 entries, which cover only the last few minutes of traffic. I need the ability to store a much longer period of traffic - perhaps up to a week - as I cannot check the log very frequently. Is there a way to configure the Q1000 to either increase the capacity of the log or to dump the log in near-real time to a device on the network? If this isn't possible, what other inexpensive hardware or software (preferably free) solutions might I consider? Thanks.

[CenturyTel] Century Link VDSL2 Modem Settings for Zhone 6718-W1

I just spent some time figuring out the settings for the Zhone 6718-W1 router and wanted to share in case others want to save some money and buy their own modems. I chose the http://www.zhone.com/products/6718-W1/ because it was cheaper than the $100.00 Century link is asking and has around 100x the features. Plus you get the satisfaction of knowing that Centurylink isn't making a $50+ profit off of you and doesn't have a backdoor into your modem to change settings like the default modem does. 1. First you have to find out your PPPoE username and password. The username usually looks something like username@qwest.net.Tech support can give both of these to you. 2.The Trick to setting it up was to select PTM. PTM is an alternative to ATM. The key settings are: Vlan8021p=0 VlanMuxId=201 If you currently have a centurytel modem these settings are indicated in the DSL status as: Path Parameter:201 Priority:0 Service Type:PTM - Tagged (201) They may change depending on your area but now you know what settings to look for That's it! I couldn't find any information on this modem which is surprising as it was the cheapest vdsl2 wireless router I could find and thought it would help some people out.

Internet dropping constantly

This started happening last week, and it has continued. I might stay connected for 5 hours or so and then my connection starts going haywire and disconnects on and off for the next 45 minutes. It happens randomly, but once it does it one time it usually will continue for a short period of time. I wasn't going to post thinking it might go away on it's on, but the same thing has continued and I am getting aggravated. Any help is appreciated.

Internet unusable when it rains and modem reboots at 10:40PM

This has been an ongoing problem for the last few years. Last Saturday it rained at around 10PM, and my internet was unusable the rest of the night. It wasn't until Sunday afternoon at around 2:30PM that the connection became semi stable. I checked at 5PM and the up-time on the modem was two and a half hours. I've had at least four techs out here for this problem, and every time I'm told it should be fixed, and yet, the next time it rains, the same thing happens. Every time I try and get a tech out here, they show up after the line has dried out and is working decently enough. No one has been able to fix this problem. I'm not looking forward to monsoon season with this problem. Also, starting several months ago, my modem used to reboot every night at 10:40PM. Then on Sunday night after the 400+ retrain problem, it did it at 10:50PM. Last night, it was at 11:21PM. It's too erratic now. It used to be predictable at 10:40PM. I would know not to start a game until after the modem had rebooted, but I can't count on it anymore. I mentioned it to the last tech and he said nothing about it other than it was "weird."

Promised speed upgrade. Fact or fiction?

I moved to a new home a bit out of town in April. I signed up with Century Link for phone and their 1.5 internet with the promise from them that higher speeds were scheduled to be in place by August 01. I called today and the rep indicated August 01 looked doubtful and couldn't get me a new date. I spoke with a neighbor and he told me they had been promising better speeds for a long time. Another neighbor said they haven't even laid the new fiber yet. (not sure how he knows that) I have another internet option but it requires a two year deal. Is this a typical game that Century Link plays with customers? Tells them better speeds are right around the corner simply to keep them from leaving knowing the better speeds are no where is sight?

CenturyLink IPv6 support (uses 6rd)

$

It works -- kind of. I'm using the ZyXEL C1000Z modem that they shipped to me and followed the instructions on CenturyLink's website to turn on IPv6 support. Found two problems so far: One is with the modem itself.* I can make the modem crash (like, completely stop responding) if I try to visit youtube.com over WiFi with IPv6 enabled. Turn off IPv6 and it won't crash the modem, or plug in instead of using WiFi and it won't crash the modem. The second problem is that it seems like large packets don't seem to make it through. This seems to have something to do with that the 6rd packets are wrapped up in a packet that also has PPP and PPPoE headers. And so IPv6 is actually having a tough time with its PMTU detection because it needs to actually detect that its available path should be smaller. And sure enough, setting the MTU manually** to 1472 (-20 for 6rd, and -8 for PPPoE) allows YouTube to play videos over IPv6 and lets me download files from IPv6 servers, etc. I do wonder if ipv6.google.com has manually set their MTU size to the minimum -- because it always seemed to work. The MTU *workaround* seems to fix the C1000Z modem crash over WiFi as well. In my opinion, a modem should never crash in a situation like that. Discard a packet if needed? Sure. But crash so hard that I have to unplug it? Never. If someone understands PMTU better than me (wouldn't be hard) I'd love to hear why it doesn't seem to be working and we have to manually set the MTU on the end device for it to work in this case. Is the modem or 6rd gateway just ignoring the ICMP packets that it needs? * I am running the latest firmware to date: CZC001-4.12.008.11 ** On Windows 7, it would be something like this: netsh interface ipv6 set subinterface "Local Area Connection" mtu=1472 You could add store=persistent if you want it to remain after a reboot. You would also have to do this for each "subinterface" you want to use. Note that this is kind of a hack/workaround, and I'm don't understand PMTU well enough to know why it's not handling correctly (the modem has a sit0 interface that is correctly set to an MTU of 1472). I just know it'd be best in my mind for it to happen in the modem or 6rd gateway since it knows it is doing 6rd and PPPoE, where your computer shouldn't have to care about that sort of thing being upstream. Prism just came to Omaha and I'm wondering if it's worth switching from Cox...I don't have any major issues with Cox's TV service except for the price. I've read some reviews of Prism in other markets and they seem overwhelmingly negative...kinda sounds like it's not worth the hassle.

I have a 7Mbps/896kbps ADSL line. I've been on Actiontec GT701WG for a long time, but just acquired a 2wire 2701HG-D. My setup consists of two laptops and a desktop for normal web browsing, video watching etc. What advantages do these modems have over eachother?

I Suspect Centurylink requires Modem Authentication

I recently purchased my own VDSL2 modem and posted about the config here. It worked flawlessly for two days and I sent back by Centurylink modem. Shortly afterwards the DSL light started blinking. I logged into the modem and there was no DSL connection! I tried everything, rebooted multiple times, restored factory defaults, used different phone cable, plugged it into a different phone jack. Nothing worked. I called tech support and they said I had a bad modem. I was in a bad situation as I had just sent back the century link modem so I did not have a backup. I called centurylink and asked for a another modem. It took three days to arrive and in the mean time I would periodically try the modem I purchased, nothing worked and there as no DSL signal present. Here's where it gets interesting. I received the replacement centurylink modem and plugged in the phone line. The modem booted up and the DSl light turned solid green indicating a DSL connection. Then I unplugged the phone cord from the replacement Centurylink modem and plugged it back into the modem I purchased. Guess what? It started working again!!!! This doesn't make sense though. I was without DSl for a solid three days. It wasn't a transient DSL outage as I asked tech support to check and I know my line is good as tech support tested it as well. The only thing I can think of is Centurylink is performing some sort of MAC authentication or attempting to access my modem by some means such as TR-069 and when it fails it cuts off my service. Or I need to somehow register my modem with them. I suspect this is the case so I went to http://install.centurylink.net while connected with the modem I purchased in hopes that will prevent the problem form happening again Has anyone ever heard of this happening? Does anyone have any theories as to why this would happen? I asked tech support a bazillion times if I needed to authorize or register my modem or enable some settings for centurlyink to access and they denied I needed to do anything other than use my username and password. If anyone from Centurylink can shed some light on this I would be extremely interested. I'm hoping it will not happen again but I will update again if it does.

[Embarq] Internet Usage Question

We just started using CenturyLink at the end of March. I went with them when we bought our new house because there was (and still is) no other option other than satellite. Charter is the cable company for this area, but they have no lines into the neighborhood (it's a brand new subdivision). We really haven't had any problems other than when a really bad storm knocked out the connection, but they got it repaired fairly quickly. Other than that it's been rock solid, and the speeds seem to be extremely consistent. We've got the 10Mbps package, which was the fastest we could get. When I run speed tests I always get a slight bit over 10Mbps. I received a letter in the mail from CenturyLink on Saturday telling me that we're a heavy internet user. I've attached a scan of the letter. I don't know if this is a "warning" letter because we're hitting the cap, or if this is just a sales letter trying to upsell me to a faster speed. This is the first communication I've gotten from them about our internet. It's not telling me that we need to cut back and doesn't seem to have a "warning" tone to it, but mentions that we use the connection more than most people who have this speed package. It also makes mention of faster speeds available, but when I look online it doesn't show anything faster than 10Mbps. I have no clue how much data we're actually using. From what I've read online, the higher speed packages (if they were available) have the same size cap on them so I'm not sure why switching to a faster speed (if one was available) would make any difference. We have the "Pure" internet-only package. Do I need to be concerned about our usage, or is this just some sales thing?
