Hello! I have Prism and 100Mbps internet. I've read a lot of people have had problems eith CL, but I've been fortunate enough to have very few problems here in Ocala, FL. I was just wondering if anyone knows how to upload a modified host file to the 2100t?

ZyXel C1000Z upgrade to Technicolor C2000T speed issues

Hi, I have 20Mbps service on CL. ZyXel C1000Z would report 20Mbps down, 0.7 up. Worked okay for quite a while, but WiFi seemed to degrade over the years. I thought maybe the unit was dying, so bough a Technicolor C2000T off EBay - looked like it was brand new. After doing a factory reset and configuring the C2000T, web interface would report 7Mbps down, 0.7 up for DSL1, also "estimated loop length" is 9072 ft. The C1000Z would always report 20Mbps down, 0.7 up, "estimated loop length" 1900 ft. I'm wondering if the C2000T low pass filter for DSL1 is causing a problem (I have read that there is a low pass filter, but I thought that might only be for the POTS connection and should not affect the DSL speed). Does anyone have ideas regarding this issue? Is it possible that the DSL1 low pass filter is causing the longer estimated loop length, and thus causing the slower download speed? The Ebay seller has already said he'd take a return. I'm just not sure if I should try another one (in case I just got a bad one), or if I should try a C2100T (which I understand does not have a low pass filter or POTS connection). I have a VOIP phone with FlowRoute, but don't need the VOIP/POTS connections on the modem/router since I have an ObiHai ATA adapter that works fine connected to the router. Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Centurylink "Simple" DSL Internet in Guest House

I recently moved into a guest house on a farm and needed to get at least some basic DSL internet for school/work. I signed up with Centurylink 20/1 service and decided to rent the modem for a least a month or two so I could get all the specs I needed to buy my own. My only worry is that the main house on the property has Centurylink and I had to use the main address for the service to the guest house (the guest house does not have it's own address). Is this going to cause issues with installation? The guest house has a phone/DSL jack but I'm wondering if a technician is going to need to flip any switches or run any wire? I chose the self-install option but I'm not exactly sure what has to happen behind the scenes to get the internet up and running? Does anyone have any experience with this type of install or foresee any issues that I can try to avoid? Appreciate it!!

Difficult CL Situation with Conduit. No Service for over one month

I am going to this site as a last resort and, after reading some other comments, I think I should have posted here first. I live in new construction in Herriman, Utah called Horizon Heights. When I purchased my condo, I ensured that CenturyLink Fiber would be offered. In Mid-February I paid my $150 to CL and they sent a tech out to install. The only problem is that they didn't have a conduit. I guess there are two spaces for a conduit to come into the unit and Comcast took it upon themselves to install in both places. The builder sent a letter to CL confirming that the conduit is theirs and not Comcast's, but CL still won't install. They are "working on it with Comcast" and I have now been in my condo for more than a month (2/20) with no internet service. Their last advice was to get Comcast internet until they could work it out. This will cost a $70 install charge and more expensive internet for a few months. Why is this so difficult for them to resolve if the builder has confirmed that they have rights to the conduit? Is there anyone here who has experienced something similar and can provide some advice?

Upload Speed Great on Gig Fiber, Download Speed Not so much

Hi Folks, Looking for some help on this one, I just had Gig installed yesterday, the tech failed to a speedtest before he left but after he did, I went ahead and did one. Well download is around 300, upload is around 900. Everything is hard line connected to the C2100T and a macbook pro that has handled gig connections before. I have power cycled everything. Long story short, I called the tech and was told they are pushing gig to the modem, so what I see is what is expected with fiber and gig service. I have to say, especially given the numbers I have seen here this is garbage, and something is amiss. FYI the tech said my light levels were -19. Any ideas? How can I 'prove' this to them?

WiFi slower than expected

Just switched from Comcast to CenturyLink VDSL2 bonded. I have an Asus RT-AC68U router (stock firmware) that was connected to the cable modem. Comcast service was 55 down/5 up. Speed tests over wifi were showing 60-65 down and 6-7 up. Now I have the Asus taking care of PPPOE and connected to the Actiontec C1900A which is in bridge mode untagged (wifi is off). Speeds are supposed to be 80/10. Over ethernet I get 78-80 down and 9-10 up so I know I'm getting advertised speeds. However, when I connect via wifi and run a speed test I get anywhere from 25-60 down and 9-10 up. I would normally chalk this up to interference but Comcast was consistently showing advertised speeds over wifi. Plus the upload speeds over ethernet and wifi stay around 9-10 so I'd expect it to be lower if it was interference related. It's just the download speeds that are so far off. The only thing that has changed is the router handling PPPOE. Is this expected behavior or is there some way to get better speeds over wifi?

[CenturyTel] Bags over pedestals

Is is normal practice for CL to place bags over pedestals ? I drive around my county and see orange bags zip tied or taped over pedestals on a daily basis and they don't ever seem to be removed. Is CL in that bad a shape as a company that they cannot repair their pedestals ? It is a former sprint > embarq > CL area

Modem choices...need help.

Recently CL ungraded equipment out here in the sticks in Northern WI. I was offer 25mb service over the 3mb I was using. I currently have a Zytel C1100z and started having issues. They say that the modem is my problem and want me to buy a Actiontec C2000a unit. Is there a better Modem/Router combo that I should look at? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I've included pdf of modem status and modem log from the C1100z I feel that I have an issue whenever the ground gets saturated, like now with the frost coming out, but they claim at CS that the line is fine. I can hear a slight bit of static on my voice line when this condition is present like heavy rain or snow melt. In any event, my question, "what should I get for Combo Modem or Modem and wireless router to get the best performance now and if they bump the speeds in the future?

[CenturyTel] Where can I get info about CAF II plans?

It's 2018, and I'm still at a half Mbps with my extended reach DSL through Centurylink. We supplement with crappy mobile internet, but that's not even that good. We are in a CAF-II area. Does anyone know where I can get info about their plans for upgrade? I was hoping by now we'd have seen something change. CenturyLink customer service isn't helpful--I've tried. I'm even considering going to satellite, but I really don't like the idea of the data caps (Exede still doesn't list an unlimited plan for my address).

Could someone tell me the setup of Asus 3100 with gig Centurylink?

I have spent several hours trying to get my Asus 3100 working. All goes well, I think, until I put in the vlan settings of 201 and pri 0. I then hit apply and it goes to a screen that says reconnecting to the internet, but it never reconnects. If someone has the settings for me to try it will let me know if it is me or a defective router. Thanks

Centurylink is chopping down Copper when installing FTTH

Heads up, looks like Centurylink's contractors are cutting the copper for your landline when doing internet only FTTH installs, I've had two instances in the past week where they've cut active circuits with DSL & Phone, luckily already had port requests in for both. This wasn't standard procedure in Seattle just 2 years ago, anyone else seen this happen?

C1900A or C3000Z

I recently got 25/2 bonded service. They gave me a C3000Z modem but I was having tons of connection issues. They thought it might be the modem so they gave me a C1900A to try. That did not fix the issue, they found out it was something in the DSLAM. I am wondering if I should stay with the C1900A or switch back to the C3000Z for some reason. Thanks

works for me, if you don't want to read the article, this is how you set it up thru your router: edit: removed zip attachment, added copy-n-paste text. Setup on a router Setting up 1.1.1.1 takes two minutes and requires no technical skill or special software. Even if you’re a computer novice, pick your device below for an easy-to-follow setup guide. Your router’s configuration may vary. Consult your manual for more information. 1. Connect to your preferred wireless network. 2. Enter your router’s gateway IP address in your browser. 3. If prompted, fill in your username and password. This information may be labeled on the router. 4. In your router’s configuration page, locate the DNS server settings. 5. Write down any existing DNS server entries for future reference. 6. Replace those addresses with the 1.1.1.1 DNS addresses: o For IPv4: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1 o For IPv6: 2606:4700:4700::1111 and 2606:4700:4700::1001 7. Save your settings, then restart your browser. 8. You’re all set! Your device now has faster, more private DNS servers

[CenturyTel] Layoffs

https://www.bizjournals.com/denver/news/2018/05/03/centurylink-cutting-hundreds-of-jobs.html CenturyLink Inc. has started laying off hundreds of employees companywide in cuts that will continue in coming weeks as the telecom adopts new technology and streamlines following last year's merger with Level 3 Communications. The Monroe, Louisiana-based company (NYSE: CTL) is cutting 2 percent of its staff, eliminating jobs in various divisions across the business, CenturyLink confirmed Thursday. The company did not disclose an exact number, but employment figures it disclosed earlier this year suggest a 2 percent cut would mean as many as 1,050 employees let go. ... The company gave no detail about what kinds of positions are being eliminated or about whether cuts would vary in particular geographic areas.

[CenturyTel] Conflict between Apt Bldg's Cable and DSL lines, Entry Sec.Panel?

$

I'll put my system's symptoms at the end, but have there ever been problems due to an apt building being primarily, obviously "favoring" if you will, cable connections? I say/ask that because when I moved into the building, I could tell the manager was annoyed when I said I wanted to import my DSL phone/internet line. Since it's been installed (2yrs ago), too many phone calls (10% at least) seem to be dropped a few seconds after I pick up the phone, with maybe a few milliseconds of the start of something, then a click, then nothing. So it's not a silent call, nor the usual computer generated spam call, nor a person just saying nothing. There's also cross-talk with others in the building, but only when talking to someone in the building. AND when someone uses the building's entry panel to have me open the door (to the building) my phone's timestamp is changed - and NOT per GMT, but any odd number of hours and minutes ahead of the present time! So... old DSL filter or something akin to the building, so to speak? Thank you, especially for any experience with this.

[CenturyTel] stmp.centurylink.net blacklisted using gmail return address

Newbie here. My outgoing gmail via my DSL's Centurylink server has been blocked for a few days, after working for many years, with the following message in Apple Mail: "The sender address xxxxxx@gmail.com was rejected by the server smtp.centurylink.net. The server response was: [F3] Mail rejected by policy. Blacklisted" How does a gmail user end the blacklisting? I've telephoned Centurylink for guidance, and their call center in the Philippines tells me Centurylink won't help and I have to contact Google. I've tried with Google which ends up at https://support.google.com/mail/contact/msgdelivery, but but it's only for IT admins and requires information I don't have access to, and there is no phone number provided. Advice would be appreciated.

Poor line quality

First the pictures, the first is the most recent, second is from yesterday, third and forth are from a couple days ago. Had CenturyLink set up about a week and a half ago and the first day it was okay(as much as I could tell) but after that there were tons of retrains, one day I had around 50. Had a tech come out a couple days ago and he said the problem was on the house side of the line. I replaced the cat3 cable with a new cat5e. The line is run in the crawlspace of the house, no electronics around it. Basically I'm wondering if I should worry about the most recent stats, or if that's just what I'll have to deal with. Before I replaced the cat3, you can see the connection was absolute trash, so upgrading the line definitely helped. Yesterday after replacing the cable the status was good for probably 6 hours, then slowly degraded to poor. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
