After 6 months of rock solid bonded 60/30 VDSL2 service, I came home yesterday to no Internet, and it is still down. Hoping the gurus here can shed some light.
Both DSL lines are up and clean, with great signal levels, but the Internet connection is continually trying to authenticate and failing. The Internet light on the C2000t is rapidly flashing green and red.
The crux of the issue appears to be that the DSL service type being received on both lines is PTM-Untagged and it needs to be PTM-Tagged(201)
I'm almost certain the problem is on CTL's end, and my patience working with low tier tech support is worn out (Yes, I have rebooted the modem numerous times. Yes, I have factory defaulted the modem numerous times. Yes, I'm certain my username and password is entered correctly. Even the default walled garden credentials don't work.) The support session ended with the rep telling me that I need a new modem. Perhaps, but I'm not convinced.
Any ideas from the gurus here on how to get in touch with a higher tier of support who can actually look at the ports serving me and check to make sure they're properly tagging?

CenturyLink running fiber in Mount Vernon, Ohio
I noticed today to my pleasant surprise a truck overlashing fiber optic cable on CenturyLink's copper plant down my road today. They are Ohio Line Construction, LLC based out of Loudonville, Ohio. They said they were contracted by CL to run fiber optic to improve the internet. They didn't tell me what type of deployment or plans CL had for the fiber such as FTTP, new remote DSLAMs, Cell tower backhaul, etc. The guy said he anticipated FTTP but it's up to CL and CL didn't give them the details. They told me call CL for details and that CL would be the ones in charge of splicing and running the line to my house. I was tempted to ask them how much to go ahead and run it to my house, but figured they'd have to bury it to do that as if they went aerial, the pole in my yard is owned by AEP. I live a few miles south of Mount Vernon.

Centurylink DSL randomly drop and says "identifying"
I'm NOT a network person, so be kind...
About 6 months ago Centurylink switched our DSL to 20MB (mb?). After a LOT of screwing around with the person that showed up, they finally got 4 wires connected and things turned on. It's BEEN WORKING FINE SINCE THEN..........
Recently, within the last several days, it APPEARS to randomly drop the Internet connection to the desktop, hardwired PC, and sits there saying "Identifying" on the wired connection, blinking on and off. Eventually, it comes back on. Attempting to connect the same PC to the wireless provides the SAME RESULTS - the wireless connection says "Identifying" and blinks on and off.
Just got off the phone with Centurylink, who said "the DSL1 and DSL2 lights haven't stopped being green in over 24 hours." Which I presume means everything on THEIR end is fine and the problem is somewhere in the modem or between the modem and the computers?
Since Centurylink is doing the "not our DSL" thing, what should I do to figure out what's going on? NOTHING has changed here - no new cables, no hooking/unhooking, no changes to network configuration, no nothing.... Worked, now periodically, randomly, generally several times/day, it loses the connection and eventually reconnects.
I"ll pull and replace the cable between modem and desktop PC, but can someone knowledgeable provide some steps for hopefully getting this thing working consistently again if that doesn't magically fix it?

I have a damaged century link phone box in my front yard. Iâve asked it to be replaced several times and they just put tape around it. It looks horrible and detracts from property value. Is this acceptable?

Increased ping while gaming after speed increase
I recently went from service at 40mbps/5mbps to a vdsl2 bonded 80mbps/10mbps. After the speed increase my PS4 gaming ping in most games went up by 50%. I had a ping of 40 or so and now have a ping around 60. I was using a Zyxel c1100z modem+router and now have a zyxel c3000z modem+ router.
Centurylink sent a tech out to double check the install and I’m definitely getting the advertised speed both down and up to the modem. The experience while gaming is very jittery and my speed tests on my PS4 are very inconsistent on the upload speeds ranging from 5mbps all the way down to 200kbps.
My knowledge on networking is very limited and my research is leading me to believe I need to by a separate router, one that can properly prioritize network traffic. Before I spend 200+ dollars on a gaming router can someone help me look at my connection status info and tell me if that is indeed going to help me? I don’t know what connection info to post so please let me know and thanks in advance for your time and help.

[Qwest] DSL - Questions regarding errors, speed, G.DMT vs ADSL2Plus
A little background - I was stuck with 1.5Mbps for years and surprised when CL allowed me to upgrade to 7Mbps service, online. I fully expected it to be rejected due to my location. A few days layer my speed initially was provisioned at 7.191/.896 on G.DMT. After a week or so, went up to 9.---/.896 using ADSL+. Happy camper. A couple of months later, many disconnects, millions of error packets loss, thousands of CRC errors and speed fluctuations. Two techs later, line seemed to be working again. Was told by last tech I was very lucky to have speed I was given. They reset profile to 7.191/.896. A day or two later it dropped to 6.1--/.4-- on G.DMT. Line seemed very stable for two weeks. Near zero CRC errors and error packets loss. A few days ago I noticed faster speeds. Logging into my Zyxel C1100Z modem showed 7.191/.896, then 8.191/.896 then a day later 9.210/.892. Now on ADSL+. Actual upload speeds never go over .40. With the higher speeds, I'm noticing many error packets on the ds and 200+ CRC errors ds and 9 us. This over 1 day, 11hrs - according to modem. Questions are: Do/Can I force modem back to G.DMT with CenturyLink? I presume this will force speed back to a max download of 7. Or do I leave it as is if no noticeable issues are present and enjoy the increased speed. My attenuation on the DL with G.DMT was 43. According to these numbers I should not be getting 9Mbps on the DS. Not sure what the issue is with my upload as it won't go over .40 despite showing .892. Thanks for reading and your assistance.

[Qwest] Frustration with PPPoE layer and tech support that doesn't get it
Refraining from a long diatribe about PPPoE, I'll just say that adding a dial-up era session layer over a modern, nailed-up connection technology is... stupid.
MOST, if not all, of my problems with my CenturyLink DSL (former Qwest area, using Qwest infrastructure because I have a block of static IPs) stem from the PPPoE layer. Today, since about 3AM, I've had my connectivity interrupted no less than 20 times - all at the PPP layer. The line is fine, and the modem shows a train timer of well over 24 hours. In every case, it's taken anywhere from 60 seconds to 20 minutes before the PPP negotiation finally succeeds and I'm back on the air (I have logs FULL of PPPoE "action failed", "unrecoverable error" and "State change InitSent -> Dead" messages). Ironically, this has happened to me TWICE while I was in the middle of "chat" tech support with CL reps - the same reps that told me that since I was chatting with them and online, there was no problem. Apparently "intermittent" isn't in their vocabulary?
Granted, I have my modem in bridging mode and the PPPoE endpoint is not the modem, but the ONLY thing I can get from the so-called "tech support" is "power-cycle the modem" "what do the lights look like" "we have to send you a replacement modem since the line test fine".
NO. I want someone that understands PPP, PPPoE, PAP/CHAP, and how they integrate with CL's DSL to look at why their PPP infrastructure just keeps going brain-dead for minutes to hours at a time and simply refuses to allow a PPP link to be established. When every single other component from the lines to the modem to my switches to my servers are 100% operational, it seems ridiculous to have my connectivity remain at the mercy of a legacy session authentication technology - that's failing far more often than it should.
To the point:
Is there ANY way to get in touch with someone technical at CL that perhaps understands/manages/maintains the infrastructure that DOES all the PPP/PPPoE silliness and maybe get them to troubleshoot it? This isn't the first time I've been here, but it's getting close to being my last. The front-line people won't pass me on to anyone higher/more advanced - they claim they are perfectly capable of handling my problem, but then continue to insist that I power-cycle the modem - and replace it when that doesn't magically make everything better.

Any way to get 512k or 256k out of CenturyLink? 128k IDSL?

I'm trying to sort internet out for my parents in Centralia, WA. Growing up about 8 miles west of town (about 9 from the central office) I ended up putting in One-Way DirecPC when I was a kid; over the years I switched them to WildBlue, then Excede a few years back. There is no cable, no cell signals, they live in a valley so no WiSP... option has always been satellite or a T1 for an oh-so-inexpensive $689 per month last time I checked a few years ago.
I'm trying to help them out with internet once again... they are tired of paying for satellite... it would also be nice to have a low-latency solution for a microcell cellular repeater... CenturyLink has now installed a DSLAM about 3 miles away; they are plastering everyone that high speed internet is available -- and it is... up until you get to about a mile away from their house. The online tool shows service starting at 80 megs near the DSLAM, and progressively gets slower until you get to 3 megs... then it cuts to no service. No 1.5, 512, or 256k options.
In all honesty, even if they could get 256k, they would be happy -- low latency and enough for basic surfing and e-mails, but better than dial-up. Especially if it's cheaper. CenturyLink says "nothing available"... but if they can have 3 megs a mile from the house, I'd assume they can still get 256k. I know it's no longer considered "broadband" -- but this is an internet-starved area, and they'd happily pay for it. I also heard of something called "IDSL" that basically was an always-on ISDN circuit at 128k -- but never could find anyone who knew anything about it.
I guess what I'm asking is -- how can I actually get someone to come out and test the line to see exactly what can be had on it? Does this even seem realistic that there may be service available on the line that they aren't selling because it's "too slow" for 2018?

Prism Multicast issue with AC5300?
I replaced my C2100T with an Asus AC5300 and I have been having the freezing TV issue every 20ish seconds on all set top boxes. I have IGMP proxy and snooping enabled. I have tried QoS with it to prioritize multimedia. Nothing seems to have worked. I am completely unsure of what I need to do. I will include screenshots below.

WAP + ZyXel C2100Z = 5Ghz not routing
This one is weird.
I have the ZyXEL c2100z Wireless Router from CenturyLink, which seems to crap out ever 3 months. In an effort to avoid "overworking" this piece of equipment I have tried a few ways to bypass the unit. The lastest is using WAC104 WAPs from Netgear.
I have Cat5e/6 drops to the main utility closet where the ZyXEL c2100z is located. The WAPs are configured properly. I can connect to the WAP, and traverse the entire LAN. The WAP supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. If I connect to the 5Ghz I can see the entire LAN, but I can't get out of the network. Without changing anything, but switching to the 2.4Ghz network, I am then able to get to the full internet.
The wireless on the C2100Z is completely disabled. I am using the DHCP server of the modem. DNS for the modem is configured to Google's servers (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4). Routing seems just fine on the modem:

Strangest to me is that the WAPs are both hard wired to the modem, so as far as I know there is no way for the modem to determine which wireless network the traffic is from, unless they are tagging traffic oddly, who knows.

Help me understand Century Link 1gig fiber.
I just had CL 1 gig fiber installed. Everything I read online about CL fiber makes me believe I should have a PPPoE connection with Vlan Tagging but somehow I do not.

C3000Z Modem
Here is the strange thing. Ethernet is going from the ONT port 1 to the Modem switch port 1. It is not going to the WAN port. Logging into the C3000Z shows very minimal settings. Seems only the wifi has been setup nothing else changed.
I tried switching out the modem with a pfsense box set to dhcp but I will not get an ip address. Is it possible to be connected with century link with no authentication? Is the ONT handling it? Is the C3000Z handing it just not visibly in the GUI?

High latency, random disconnects
For the past 5 months, I've been getting annoyingly high ping from 7pm-10pm. Usually it would sit around 150-200 ping. CenturyLink consistently gave different answers as to why, and never any fixes. However, recently the high ping has been happening randomly throughout the day (and consistently around 300 at night), and sometimes sitting around 1000-3000 ping for periods of around 15 minutes. Sometimes the internet will randomly stop working entirely.
I used to get around 30-50 ping.
I've complained to CL about this for months, yet they say the line is stable, and that our modem is fine. We have 20mbps down and .8 up, though they randomly upped our download speed to 30mbps up a couple days ago, after saying they would do it a month ago to 'make up for the slow speeds'. I live in a rural area. I assumed the high ping was originally from high activity since we get a lot of people living here over the winter, even though I've had CL for years and this has never happened before. Now winter is over and the extra residents are gone, yet the high ping has only gotten worse. Recently a new ISP came here offering fixed internet, with 100mbps down and 33mbps up, and it's really tempting to switch. The ping sometimes sits around 40, but will randomly jump to 150+ throughout the day. I have no idea why this is happening, but it's really tempting to switch providers right now, since CL hasn't given any answers or fixes in sight.

Can I control overall speeds with Centurylink's Zyxel C1100z
Hey, I've had Centurylink for a couple of years and they have been promising this "amazing" upgrade that would bring us to 40/5 for over a year now. Well, 2 missed deadlines later and no more talk about the "upgrade" since, I'm finally sick of this shitty service but since it's the only provider here I need some help. I am wanting to know if it is possible to limit my upload/download speeds overall. Whenever my speeds hit max or close to it my ping shoots into the 200-300s and makes playing games not a possibility.
My speeds are only 9.439down/0.895up Mbps
Is it possible to do this with the Zyxel C1100Z?

How To Request Backbone Upgrade From Copper To Fiber
I live in Ankeny, IA (50023).
Currently my house only has CenturyLink UTP service available (1.5Mbps). However, my neighbor across the street has 1Gbps availability via FTTH. I called in and everyone seems super surprised that I don't have fiber availability since there is pretty much a circle around my neighborhood on actual fiber availability.
Does anyone have any idea how I can try and convince CenturyLink to upgrade my neighborhood to have fiber availability, or get it at least on a roadmap?

I have a Zyxwl c2100z modem on bridge mode with Centurylink, to a Netgear R7000 router running Advanced Tomato. I can not get the IPv6 to work. Suggestions/ideas?

Internet keeps going off and on
I am using my phone service as I type this and its super frustrating to see that my internet STILL keeps going off and on even after 4 tech visits. I'm not sure if it's the wiring in the "customer network interface." I'm new here so I may not know some of the jargon used. Another thing to note, is after we ended our telephone service, things began to go bad with the Internet for some reason. I don't think it's the modem because one of the techs replaced our old modem with a new one. Any suggestions? thanks in advance.

Poor line quality
First the pictures, the first is the most recent, second is from yesterday, third and forth are from a couple days ago. Had CenturyLink set up about a week and a half ago and the first day it was okay(as much as I could tell) but after that there were tons of retrains, one day I had around 50. Had a tech come out a couple days ago and he said the problem was on the house side of the line. I replaced the cat3 cable with a new cat5e. The line is run in the crawlspace of the house, no electronics around it. Basically I'm wondering if I should worry about the most recent stats, or if that's just what I'll have to deal with. Before I replaced the cat3, you can see the connection was absolute trash, so upgrading the line definitely helped. Yesterday after replacing the cable the status was good for probably 6 hours, then slowly degraded to poor. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Was recently switched from ADSL to VDSL, new speeds incoming?
I recently took Centurylink up on their $45 lifetime fee offer, switching from my existing yearly promotion and dropping my landline. Went fairly smoothly. They tried to tack on $40 for some sort of "promotion switching" fee (the tech's words) to the current billing cycle, but I was able to dissuade them at the cost of an hour of my free time.
Anyway, a few days later my internet goes out, I notice a ticket on the support site. I wait it out, ticket is concluded, but I still can't connect. Another hour with a tech, turns out they switched me from ADSL to VDSL. One modem swap later, I'm good to go.
But I'm also wondering why they bothered to swap me in the first place if they're still only offering up to 10mbps in my area (a tech confirmed this is the max available, "but they're always upgrading yadda yadda.") You guys think they're planning on offering new speeds in my area soon, or is there some technical reason that would explain this?
I can share my modem stats later, but for what it's worth I've always received rock solid ping times and speeds that are actually a bit higher than what I pay for (in the 10-13 mbps range), which as an MMO'er is perhaps the best praise I can give Centurylink.

router/firewall that works with Centurylink GPON
I have CenturyLink Giagibit fiber in the Denver Metro area. Does anyone know if there is a list of routers/firewalls that will work with GPON? The lists I am finding on the official century link site only refer to DSL connections.
Also, when I replace my centurylink provided c3000z, are there any special procedures to follow? Does the router I purchase have to be registered or anything?
