Outage Map?

My brother lives a county north of me and he's been without internet for over 24 hours (he has CenturyLink DSL). He asked if there was a such thing as an outage map similar to the way our power provider has. He's aware of ERIC, but that's typically days after the fact.

Does CenturyLink scan users' emails?

Been with CL for 6 months without trying their email service, but recent publicity about Oath/Yahoo/AOL/Verizon/Frontier/GMail/iCloud ad nauseum all scanning email content for advertising & sharing purposes, I'm thinking about using it cuz it's free and I'm in CL for the long haul. Does anyone here know who CL's email provider is, and/or whether they too scan customer emails for tracking purposes?

Serious Connection issues over last few days(AZ)

So Back in January I signed up for 80mbps service. Specifically at the time they were offering me 20,80 or 100MBps. I opted for the 80 because I did not want to be forced to pay another 60 dollars for a tech to install whatever they are forcing for the 100mbps Since then I have never been able to connect at faster than 25mbps. I also noticed they have sneakily changed their offerings to my house now as 20mbps, up to 60Mbps and 100MBps. So I signed up for a service they no longer even offer and then shadily changed but at this point that's besides the point. Speeds suck. The problem is starting about 3-4 days ago my connection has completely fallen apart. I am getting constant retrains. I have had to retrain 16 times in the last 4 hours today alone. I also notice an obscene amount of CRC errors. Over 6700 30 minute CRC errors at this exact moment. Over 40,000 CRC errors total. Is there any advice I could perhaps get for how to proceed with this situation

bad lines

The house we moved into about three years ago has never gotten over 1 Mbps of the 12 Mbps plan we had with century link. We switched to HughesNet (the only other isp in our area) though we are happy with the speeds the horrible ping makes us want to go back to CenturyLink. We are maybe 2 miles from the CenturyLink office, our friends are double our distance and have perfect internet. I believe our line from our house to the ped box is bad (also looks like its plain cat5) we also don't even have a NID! We have called Century link in the past and they will not replace our line since they didn't originally lay it. It has been struck by lighting in the past and gets crosstalk when it rains. How much would it cost to replace all the wiring to our house either by a contractor or us, its 60 feet to the ped and there is a dirt road in between our house and the ped?

Centurylink "Simple" DSL Internet in Guest House

I recently moved into a guest house on a farm and needed to get at least some basic DSL internet for school/work. I signed up with Centurylink 20/1 service and decided to rent the modem for a least a month or two so I could get all the specs I needed to buy my own. My only worry is that the main house on the property has Centurylink and I had to use the main address for the service to the guest house (the guest house does not have it's own address). Is this going to cause issues with installation? The guest house has a phone/DSL jack but I'm wondering if a technician is going to need to flip any switches or run any wire? I chose the self-install option but I'm not exactly sure what has to happen behind the scenes to get the internet up and running? Does anyone have any experience with this type of install or foresee any issues that I can try to avoid? Appreciate it!!

CenturyLink confusing terms and conditions

I am looking at CenturyLink's prepaid card promotion offer details for their Internet and see something that says: "Offer not available to customers with other ISPs." $50-$150 CenturyLink Visa Prepaid Card (Reward Card): Limited Time Offer (online) only. Offer may not be available in all areas and may require credit approval. Card offer is available to new, qualifying, residential CenturyLink subscribers who subscribe to a qualifying, residential CenturyLink High-Speed Internet service through www.centurylink.com as follows: $50 card for speed subscriptions of 25 Mbps and below; $100 card for 40 Mbps - 80 Mbps; and, $150 card for 100 Mbps and above. Offer not available to customers with other ISPs. Its clear to me that the promotion is for people signing up for CenturyLink as it says it right in the text. However, it sort of reads that anyone switching from another ISP that has ISP service with that other ISP at time of activation will not receive to promotion. My understanding is that person should have no Internet at time of signup to get the gift card. Does anyone else see this or am I misinterpreting this?

BYOD CenturyLink and Price for Life

I read a press release that stated that users who wish to get the Centurylink price for life must lease or purchase the modem for $150 in order to qualify. http://www.telecompetitor.com/centurylink-price-for-life-locks-in-broadband-rates/ I am looking to BYOD and don't want to pay the $150 or lose the price lock. PREPAID Price For Life High Speed Internet Service: Service and offer are not available everywhere. Offer is only available through on-line sign-up at centurylink.com/simplepay. Limited time offer. Rate is available to new, qualifying residential customers who reside in qualifying locations. CenturyLink provided modem may be required for High Speed Internet; lease ($10/mo. fee) or a one-time purchase (up to $150) option available (S&H applies for overnight delivery, if requested). Reading the terms it isn't really clear. "modem may be required" is a given as I don't know of a way of getting DSL without a modem. There is no mention of BYOD. Also: Customer must remain in good standing and offer terminates if customer changes their account in any manner, including change of address (even if plan is available), change to service, and service suspension (Vacation Program) or disconnection. "changes their account in any manner" My understand with this is that you change your incorrectly spelled name, you lose your lock, change your email address, lose the lock, change payment card or update it, lose the lock. Also, if you start with modem leasing then turn it in and bring your own, then it looks like you lose the lock also. I don't know where the non lock pricing can be found once you lose the lock. Does anyone have an experience with BYOD and CenturyLink?

Bonded DSL question

I need to replace my centurylink DSL modem, currently have a ZyXEL C1000Z. They told me I need a ADSL2+ Modem. Looking at a Technicolor C2000T which is labeled as "bonded ADSL2+." Will this modem work if my DSL line isn't bonded?

Google Wi-Fi and C3000Z Transparent Bridging?

I think I may know the answer for this, but has anyone had success using Google WiFi with transparent bridging mode on the C3000Z on bonded VDSL2 in the legacy Qwest market? I’m guessing the issue I’m having (PPPoE won’t authenticate) is because Google WiFi doesn’t support VLAN tagging. Both my DSL lines are showing as PTM-Tagged 201. If my fears are confirmed, I’m surprised Google Wifi won’t support a setup like this. It’s a shame, since the C3000Z firmware seems absolutely atrocious. Configuring the 5Ghz radio has been an exercise in futility...

DSL bonded 80 and modem questions

So thinking about getting the dsl 80 for 45 for life online. I don’t need the 300 down I pay cox for at 100 a month. What is people’s experience with this particular service? Idk how far away I am from the co and what not. Never had the service. What do people normally get for upload and download? Is there a modem I can actually use with this service that I can buy on my own? Or am I forced to keep the modem lease that the website says I need? Also anything about caps i heard they went to a soft cap based on local node conditions. I live in Pinal county in Arizona for reference

Connected to my router via Cat 5e and speeds are fine all day until 8pm till around 11pm. I am on Centurylinks 100mbps Fiber to the home and yes I am certain its FTTH I use a ONT. On the download end it drops to around 10mbps and upload stays at around the normal 50mbps. I also notice a increase in jitter and ping times. What could be causing this? I've tried different cables as well as different router/testing device.

Possible to Use 1.1.1.1 DNS with CenturyLink?

Is it possible to use Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 DNS with CenturyLink and their/Zyxel C2100Z router, despite the fact that 1.1.1.1 times out when attempting to access it in a browser? Apparently, 1.1.1.1 is reserved by this router. Is there a workaround?

Ongoing problems zyxel PK5001Z

I've been running the above modem/router for about 4 years (CL "gave" it to me when the other one got pretty old) with minimal problems. During the winter, I'm gone and the modem runs at my home with no computers on the network, only a Tivo and a Nest thermostat (plus two "smart switches"). In February, I got a message from CL saying: CenturyLink Security Services has received notification about malicious traffic originating from this account. This means that this computer or another computer on your network is trying to infect, attack, or gain unauthorized access to other computers on the Internet. This malicious traffic has been determined to be an instance of the "Pushdo" virus, also known as "Cutwail" or "Pandex." Computers infected with bots are considered compromised hosts. They may be used to send spam (also called Unsolicited Bulk Email, or UBE), scan other computers for vulnerabilities, take advantage of security holes, and/or be used as part of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. These programs also allow computers used by attackers or spammers to hide their identity and location. These bots are often spread by viruses or worms. Pushdo often spreads as an email attachment, or by opening, installing, or running compromised documents or software. Please see the Acceptable Use Policy at: • https://www.centurylink.com/Pages/AboutUs/Legal/AcceptableUse/ CenturyLink may take further action, including the suspension or termination of your Service. Please note that if you use the Internet for Voice over IP services (VoIP) to support Internet based calling, you will not be able to make any incoming or outgoing calls, including 9-1-1 calls, from your service address unless you have Internet service. Also, disconnection of a bundled service may result in loss of your bundle discount. Could this happen when it is a windows based virus and there was no computer even attached to my network for 5 months? When I called, they removed my account from the "walled garden." Since that time, the PK5001Z has required nothing but attention. It's locked up once and required a physical reboot (a problem when you're 400 miles away). My son did that and then it locked up again just before I came home and I rebooted it. Since that time I have gotten several "suspend" notices requiring me to reboot my modem to get back on the internet. Each time, I've followed their instructions and been unable to get it running. Irritating because it says once you've rebooted it "follow the instructions in the link above" and there is never any link, so I end up calling them on my cell phone to have them complete the reboot from their end. The most recent time this happened was yesterday. My guess is these forced reboots are to have it install software updates that have been bungled by the previous attempt. I'm getting fed up with the entire process and wondering about purchasing a newer modem/router to replace the 5001Z. That would be a small price to pay to avoid having to deal with this repeatedly. Can anyone recommend a combo for ADSL 2+? The only suggestions I can find on the internet are from sources I know nothing about. Thanks for any help!

CL pushing me frpm Prism to DirecTV

CL is giving me 2 choices, pay for full package of Prism or go to DirecTV. My question is whether anyone knows if there's a big difference in terms of price, hardware (genie model), support, etc if I get DirecTV through CL or go directly to DirecTV/ATT for it? I'd still be keeping my CL internet.

[Qwest] Possible to get business site speeds under residential service?

I currently have the 60/30 plan and am happy with it, but I see on the business site that my house qualifies for 80/40. With the current price promo, if 80/40 were available to me on the residential side, it would be $45/month (what I currently pay for 60/30). Is there any way to plead with CL support to bump me up to 80/40 for the residential price?

Well, I wrote about 1/2 a chapter about my attempt to get service to my address but then re-read it before I submitted it and after reading it I kind of felt like the guy making fun the retarded guy (Challenged person). I just hung my head and said to myself "well he sure tried" I truly-truly feel so sorry for the people that have to subscribe to this company, I have never written anything bad about a company but just don't get how this company is still in business? it is so polluted at every level that I had to engage with that I can only wish the best for every single employee and hope that they realize the are worth so much more and can do so much better than work for such a dysfunctional company. Customers, you too need to think about your life choices and evaluate if even having this service is worth your sanity (even the people without a choice) How can you even stay as a customer and feel good about yourself REALLY? I am in severe shock. DSLReports thank you for allow me a place to vent! I do have to say I was warned by more that 10 - 12 people that considering them for service is not a good idea but I just could not grasp that it could be this broken! I just put in an order for 1 meg down and no upload possible through the "North Korean People's Telephone And Glory Be To Kim Jong Inventor Of The Internet and Beautiful Glory Of Korea" company. AKA the "nkptagtkjotiabgok". as a bonus they said I could pay by working in the fields for 15 hours a day or get a free Centurylink $50.00 Gift Card bet you know which one I took! Wish I would have known about this "nkptagtkjotiabgok" company before I tried CenturyStink! Respectfully submitted, -Everyone

I currently have 40/20 bonded DSL service which is over-provisioned to 43.6/21.8, and it has been working great for over a year now. But I just noticed something interesting. According to the modem (I have a Technicolor C2000T), the first line could sync at 79/44, and the second line could run at 67/53, which means the two lines together could do 143 Mbps downstream and 97 Mbps upstream. From my experience, the maximum rates that the modem reports are reasonably accurate, because when I had 40/5 single-pair service several years ago, the modem reported 46/10 as the max rate, and it could do 46/5 with an SNR of 6db with no problems. However, according to CenturyLink, the speeds I can get are 20/5, 40/20, and 120/10. There used to be an option for 60/30, but I don't see that option now. Does anyone know if it is possible to get a faster upload? Here is what the modem reports: > xdslctl0 info --vectoring xdslctl0: ADSL driver and PHY status Status: Showtime Last Retrain Reason: 0 Last initialization procedure status: 0 Max: Upstream rate = 44287 Kbps, Downstream rate = 79245 Kbps Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 10911 Kbps, Downstream rate = 21823 Kbps Bearer: 1, Upstream rate = 0 Kbps, Downstream rate = 0 Kbps Vectoring state: 3 VCE MAC Address: 1:0:5e:33:44:88 Total error samples Ethernet pkts sent: 12092 Total error samples Ethernet pkts discarded: 0 Total error samples statuses sent: 12092 Total error samples statuses discarded: 0 > xdslctl1 info --vectoring xdslctl1: ADSL driver and PHY status Status: Showtime Last Retrain Reason: 0 Last initialization procedure status: 0 Max: Upstream rate = 52947 Kbps, Downstream rate = 67576 Kbps Bearer: 0, Upstream rate = 10911 Kbps, Downstream rate = 21823 Kbps Bearer: 1, Upstream rate = 0 Kbps, Downstream rate = 0 Kbps Vectoring state: 1 VCE MAC Address: 1:0:5e:33:44:88 Total error samples Ethernet pkts sent: 12399 Total error samples Ethernet pkts discarded: 0 Total error samples statuses sent: 12399 Total error samples statuses discarded: 0
