Switching fiber from PPPoE to IPoE?

$

Has anyone ever tried to get centurylink to switch the WAN connection from PPPoE to IPoE without ordering prism tv? I have gigabit fiber and unfortunately pfsense (freebsd) isn't able to make use of queues when processing inbound traffic. This results in a maximum of ~750mbps with my Atom C2758 based router. This isn't exactly a problem :) since it's pretty rare I'm even able to saturate that, but the geek in me would like to see ~940mbps :) Wondering if anyone's tried to contact them to see if they'll switch my provisioning or any suggestions of how to do it? I know they don't support byo routers so but when I first signed up for fiber i got a great support guy that told me exactly what i needed to do to use my own router (VLAN tag, and told me to make sure to get the PPPoE credentials from the installer since the zyzel C1100Z apparently can't unmask the password) so that was pretty surprising :)

D-Link DSL-520B + CenturyLink as modem only in Boulder, CO?

Hello! :) Could I have a yay or a nay on purchasing the D-Link DSL-520B for modem use only, with CenturyLink? Located in Boulder, CO. I understand it's not on CL's supported list but I have 12mbps ADSL2+ service with no possibility of upgrading further with CenturyLink, so all I need is something I can configure myself to connect PPPoE reliably, and cheaply. I may not even be able to stay with Centurylink due to potential permanent line issues--this means I don't want a router+modem combo anymore, they're too expensive (I don't trust used/refurbished much). I would be using this in bridge mode behind a D-Link DIR-878. As I see it, I just need to set the same parameters in the D-Link that my Actiontec is showing and I should be fine? Or are there extra parameters not visible in the Actiontec C1000A's interface that I need to know beforehand? *** Thanks for indicating any large potential problems with this, I appreciate it.

Latency on CL Gigabit Service?

Hi there, i am currently on cox 150 MB and both cox and centurylink have started gigabit in my area. Cox is FTTN w/ only 35mb UL and a ridiculous 1TB cap for 120$. Obviously centurylink 1 gig FTTH with unlimited data for 85$ is the superior option. My question is since im switching from cable to DSL, will i be seeing a significant increase in latency (we have very avid gamers in the house)?

[CenturyTel] They Lied

Welp, I was chatting with centurylink technical support and they told me that there was no difference between ADSL and ADSL2 and ADSL2+. Right before they told me that I asked about the line transmission tech and they said it was LCTL trasnport tech with ADSL. I aske if I could change from G.DMT to ADSL2 instead of the current ADSL and they told me it was the same. So...they insulted the shit out of my intelligence. Never trust this company! I forgot to mention all Iasked for was information and honesty from them. They proceeded to tell me after a breef exchange about my router that it was incompatible, but its a Nighthawk 1900 AC with all forms of DSL technology and its rebranded by centurylink. I don't know why the hell they are lying soooo much. Anyone else know why?

Team Fishel installing fiber for CenturyLink in Phoenix?

Once again there are Team Fishel crews on my street. In the past, Team Fishel did work for Cox. When they were on our street two months ago my brother asked who they were working for and he was told CenturyLink. I made some calls to try and find out what exactly was being done. The CSR's I spoke to said there was nothing in the system. My brother went out and talked to one of them last saturday (6/18/2017) and was told they were installing fiber for CL and the work will be completed within the week. Anyone have a number to call to find out what is being done. I tried calling today and was rerouted several times and then was disconnected.

Upgraded My Speed, but my ASUS RT-N66U Still broadcasts og speed

So, using some posts from this forum I bypassed my centurylink modem/router that came with my fiber service and blasted the internet directly out of my asus router (here's the threads I'm talking about) http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30274318-Qwest-Century-Link-PPPoE-on-ASUS-RT-N66U http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30153889-Centurylink-Gpon-Vlan2-without-the-modem So, two weeks ago I decided to upgrade my speed from 40mbs to 100mbs, and nothing happened. After some complaining, they sent a tech out who brought a new CL modem/router, and got it working to 80mbs. I tried moving the WLAN back over to my asus, but it still only gives me a wireless connection of 35mbs. I've tried unplugging everything, has this happened to anyone else? thanks!!!

Anyone with ideas on why?

Upload Speed Great on Gig Fiber, Download Speed Not so much

Hi Folks, Looking for some help on this one, I just had Gig installed yesterday, the tech failed to a speedtest before he left but after he did, I went ahead and did one. Well download is around 300, upload is around 900. Everything is hard line connected to the C2100T and a macbook pro that has handled gig connections before. I have power cycled everything. Long story short, I called the tech and was told they are pushing gig to the modem, so what I see is what is expected with fiber and gig service. I have to say, especially given the numbers I have seen here this is garbage, and something is amiss. FYI the tech said my light levels were -19. Any ideas? How can I 'prove' this to them?

ZYXEL C2100Z router login acccess

CenLink replaced my C2100T after it got fried during a Electrical meter replacement, with a ZYXEL C2100Z router. Everything works, but have discovered that I can't access the router's login screen unless I power cycle the router. Ping works but get timeout unless I power cycle the router. That was yesterday. Today again putting in the 192.168.0.1 into my browser I get a timeout. Have FTTH with 100/50 and Prism TV and phone. Seems like it could be a security feature? Anyone else had this issue or found an answer? Haven't talked to support yet, but that would be my last resort since everything else works.

My home is in an older community in unincorporated Douglas County, CO. Fiber optic cable has been laid for all the new home construction surrounding us but we’re still on the lowest broadband speed...slightly better than dial-up. A CenturyLink repair tech who came to our home told us that the fiber optic cable is right across the street from the box containing our community’s hookups and just needs to be connected to enable us to have high speed internet. I’ve repeatedly requested this but nothing has been done.. Anyone know what I can do to get this accomplished?

Pair Bonding in Colorado Springs CO

Hey looking for advice. I'm running a ZyXEL Q100 in bridge mode over to my router for a few years. Recently Centurylink has done some upgrades in my area. I guess I'm now able to get a bonded connection, I'm not super familiar on DSL technology. I'm currently on 40Mbps down and like 5 up or something. I had no issues for about 2 years but lately I've had a lot of connection slow downs and drops. I've had a tech come out twice and they don't find any issues with the local infrastructure. I highly doubt it's the modem for several reasons, but obviously I understand anything is possible. Regardless, a Centurylink tech told me that I could now pay $60 for a tech to come out and see if I could be upgraded to bonded pair, which would raise my speed to something like 90 down without raising my monthly bill. I don't believe the Q100 can support this, as the Centurylink supported modems page shows it as VDSL2 - 40Mbps. https://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/mobile/modem-compatibility-table.html My question is whether or not I should do this and if so, do I need to upgrade the modem? Any advice is appreciated.

CenturyLink DSL upgrade problem

Hello everyone, first time member of the forums (have visited a few times for many years). I live in the Renton Highland area in Washington and learned my home is eligible for 80 MB/s DSL speeds. Currently I have 40 MB/s speeds. A tech was out at my home last Friday, good news he can enable a 2nd line to pair bond up to 80 MB/s up to the DMARC outside the home. Bad news my home doesn't have a junction box inside (where internal phones/coax can be accessed/serviced inside the home) - tech stated in should be a in storage closet. The home was built in 2009, I've never seen one in my home. Had tech check crawl space, no go. According to the tech he has to enable the 2nd line to pair bond (40 x2) to get the rated 80 MB/s at the junction box. Since we cannot locate one, or know there is one I had the tech cancel the work order. The tech told me he was a bit surprise and not common to have a home without a "junction box" inside for phone/coax. Am I stuck at 40 MB/s for DSL? Would I have to switch to cable (which would be Comcast)? Is there any way for CLink to enable 80 MB/s at the home's DMARC?

I have a Zyxel C1100z with DSL service in vegas with Ipv6 enabled on the centurylink network for a few months, few days ago almost all network traffic on IPv6 in or out stopped. web or basic ping tests to 2607:f8b0:4006:805:0:0:0:200e fail, however DNS6 works. The abysmal (lack of) service of rural SE Ohio CenturyLink

Forewarning: This is a rant, because I just gotta get it out of my system. If you don't want to read my complaining about my extremely crappy service, feel free to back out now. I won't hold it against you. :) If, on the other hand, you also have crappy CenturyLink service, you may actually feel better after reading this, because I bet that it isn't as bad as mine... ;) So, most of you probably already know that CenturyLink has atrocious customer service and support, but the recent experiences I've had with them are even worse than their already bad reputation would suggest. What follows is just one out of many other bad experiences, but this one ranks among the worst, certainly. First of all, yes, I live in a rural area that is also one of the most underserved areas in the country, namely southeast Ohio. I have phone and DSL from CenturyLink, formerly Embarq, formerly GTE, formerly many many other companies that came and went before I had a chance to even learn their names. I get speeds all the way up to a blisteringly fast 0.4Mbps on a good day, but on average it hovers around 0.3, with latency fluctuating wildly between 120ms and 5000ms, depending on if anyone else in the house is using the internet at all or not. The copper lines it runs on are ancient--they are the same lines that were here when I was born in 1982, and they have been spliced god knows how many times (the road grater usually ends up cutting them at least once a year, because they are buried less than 3 inches underground right next to the road) but never replaced. On top of that, our house is the very last one on the loop, a good 3 miles from the head-end. All of that adds up to a connection that is terrible at best, and completely unusable at worst. But lately it has been getting even worse than usual. Static on the phone so bad I can't hear anything else, constant DSL modem disconnections, and 15-20% packet loss when it does manage to connect. So, after checking for problems here with my own equipment and connections (there weren't any) I first tried to open a repair ticket online. This was probably mid-October, around the 17th I think. Well, I got to the end of the process, and an error appeared on the website that said something like "Scheduling service appointments is not available. Try again later." Or some such. Ok, fine. So I go to the neighbors to use their phone to call them. They said they will send someone out, but they are very busy so it'll be sometime next week. Yeah, next freaking week. They couldn't give me even a specific day, let alone a time frame. But, as it turns out, that really wouldn't have mattered, because next week came and went, and no tech ever appeared. So I call them back and apparently it was rescheduled to November 1st. Thanks for letting me know.... Well, that day passed and still nothing! So call em back again, and guess what? Yup, they rescheduled it AGAIN to November 13th! At this point, I pretty much just have up, because what else can I do? Anyway, I was pretty sure no one would show up on the 13th anyway, and sure enough I was right. Didn't bother calling them back this time.... ....Until today, that is. Because apparently the problem that they didn't bother to fix the first time I called just couldn't hold itself together any longer and everything died, no dial tone, no internet, and now it is also affecting other households on the same road. Well, I called them from my neighbor's house again (for some reason, hers never goes out, whereas mine's been out at least 6 times this year, and I lose my DSL connection nearly every day in the wee hours of the morning, which was happening even before this recent problem) and I find out that the original ticket I made and gave up on was still open, they just reschedule it again to November 24th! Well, that's not good enough, I tell them. We don't have any service here at all. But can they reschedule my appointment to a time closer to the present? Of course not! Apparently, they can only delay appointments further into the future, not move them back to provide faster timely service. The absolute best thing they would deign to do for me was to make a note on the ticket stating that we want it fixed sooner than the scheduled date. :/ Wow, gee thanks. So, I'm writing this post from my phone as best I can because I just really feel like I need to make it known that this company really does not seem to care one bit about its customers in rural area, because they know we don't have a choice. They can blow me off as much as they want and the only option I have is to pay them anyway, or cancel their service and live without phone or Internet. But for anyone else out there who has a choice, DO NOT choose this one. You will regret it, most assuredly. I regret it every minute of every day that I spend waiting in seething frustration while I wait, and wait and wait for the internet. I can't watch a YouTube video at 144p without letting it buffer ahead for a few minutes. Facebook? Nope, unusable entirely, mainly because of all the preload scripts it uses, which end up making me wait ten minutes after I log in before anything shows up. And I've had to give up PC gaming almost entirely since most PC games don't come on disc anymore. With an average game weighing in around 30-40 GB, that's nearly two weeks straight of downloading, but since other people have to use the internet here too, it's more like 4 weeks. If am downloading anything, no one else can do anything on the internet, it just times out. This is what I get for living in a rural area... People in areas like this get forgotten or ignored, especially by telecoms, and none moreso than CenturyLink. And not only that, but I get to have my face rubbed in it too, because I get promotional fliers all the time from CenturyLink detailing all the great new tech and faster service that they keep upgrading--service that I can't get because I don't live in town. So congrats on your new super high speed 1Gbps fiber, CenturyLink. I'm glad to know that the money I pay you every month is benefitting someone else, while I don't even get a minimal level of service for the $50 a month I pay. I'd be better off burning a $50 bill every month; at least that way it would provide a small fire for a few seconds, which I could make into larger fire that I could send smoke signals with, and that would be faster and more reliable than the DSL I have now, too. So, **** off and die, CenturyLink, I hate you so much. Just because you have a captive audience doesn't mean you can just ignore us completely and still count on that check every month. Someday, we will get a better choice, then you'll wish you'd paid attention to us when you had the chance. :| Alright, I think I got it all out of my system.......for today, at least. ;)
