Surfing problems in central Florida.
Anyone else having problems getting sites to load, DSL reports is loading very slowly if at all, Amazon only partially loads and now e-bay is in the tank.
Everything goes back to normal when I switch over to AT&T wireless so I have the feeling it's a CL problem.

Extreme lag between 3pm-1am daily..
I'm also getting tracert responses of 500+ms per hop on some runs and I really just want to play agar.io but it's impossible with the constant lag.
I have no idea how to report this because when I go to CL's chat service they barely understand what a cmd line is..
The connection that's having issues is located just outside of Tabor City, North Carolina.
I make this account to run smokeping for a month to track this though I really just want to play my game..
dslreports.com/smokeping?target=a898e99be574eecd97fef330ac53dfa0&r=455
My smokeping request is here.
I'll get this made into a better format with more information but since they'll take a long time I'm just posting this question rn, so people..
What can I do to stop this daily lag spike that makes agar.io impossible to play?

I need to replace a EQ-660 modem, what would you guys recommend?
I was considering getting a PK5001A from ebay. But I've heard some bad things about it. Is the C1000A any better?

Talktous no longer responding
Hello again,
***Please read first. I have no intentions on upsetting anyone and I really don't enjoy writing this as I have other things to do. This is not meant to allow others to bash centurylink. your problem with centurylink are yours. I have posted this to have public record of progress with issues that can no longer be resolved through the chains given to me as a customer. I would rather do this before involving any service commission that would not be beneficial to anyone.***
The issues we have had over the years have usually been resolved after an email to talktous@centurylink.com (or mostly IHD Escalations people, who now say I have the wrong department). After spending hours on the phone with tech support to check if my modem is plugged in to the wall or resetting all factory defaults and trying this or that setting, I started emailing issues with speed tests logged. That was what now seems to be the good old days.
Since back in late 2014 our connection is at its best 2mbps down(I got excited when we reached 5 down with latency of 113 once), with latency being 200+. Upload speeds seem to be close to the norm at .40-.70. I sent an email to Talktous@centurylink.com on the 13th of July and have had no response.
The last few interactions let me know how much of a miracle it is to have 10Mbps here. I've also been told of the known bottleneck in Basile, La. My normal download speed at 5:30AM is .9*Mbps. Trying to check into work after hours is impossible. A lot of the time I can't load centurylink.com without finding something to do while waiting. Just in case anyone is wondering, yes, I have unplugged everything but my pc to test speeds. I was also born the day before yesterday and not quite yesterday. I now have a fresh OS install on this pc. I also check with my work laptop directly connected while trying not to drive 40 Min. away to the office when the issue could be addressed without leaving my family at 2AM.
This connection used to be fixed promptly when we could work together on it. I wish I could say the same is still true.
So, have you guys just given up? Is my only option to cancel service because this feat of 10Mbps is unobtainable? Why cant someone just tell me this instead of taking my $80 per month?
Is it possible to provide you guys with direct burial cat6 to replace a bad line? A trencher isn't that hard to obtain, so could I provide one and you guys rerun a line? I could also provide access to the easement and get dottie out, get a schedule and take off of work to allow for the pull. Are there some power issues somewhere that we could address with engineered solar backup banks? I'm willing to put up some personal capital in this to help provide what I've been paying for. I would really appreciate some sort of thought. When this connection works correctly it allows me to spend more time at home. Not much more, but enough to find it important.
EDIT*** I updated my profile to reflect that I no longer live in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Currently live in Reeves, Louisiana. Just would like to be as up front as possible.

[CenturyTel] Connection woes
So, my internet seems to cut out all the time and the modem log says eth2 (switch port: 1) Link DOWN about every 4 minutes. I've had this issue before and the tech that came out just swapped out the C1900A with a new one n said the old one was refurbished. I'm starting to think the C1900A is just a POS. Anyone have a suggestion as to how to get internet from CL that's reliable?

Any recent changes made to fiber in PDX?
I'm a CenturyLink fiber customer in Portland, OR and I replaced my modem with an EdgeRouter Lite when I first got service in Sept 2016. It's been happily chugging along until this past weekend (7/16) when suddenly all SSL traffic started dropping and I couldn't download any files over a couple of megs. The problem went away once I disabled pppoe offload on the ERL and went back to software routing; however this dropped my speeds down from gigabit to ~100mbps.
There are several people in the manufacturers forums that are experiencing the same issue:
https://community.ubnt.com/t5/EdgeMAX/Corrupted-downloads-when-ipv4-pppoe-offload-enabled/td-p/1147576
Does anyone know if there were any changes made to the fiber back end this past weekend? That might explain the sudden issue that we're seeing

911 Fees
I have no dial tone, only dry line DSL. Why do I have to pay 911 fees? I've paid these fees for years now. When I asked Centurylink about it, I was told by law they have to charge this so to help pay for 911 and to identify my location when I dial 911. I asked how I was supposed to dial 911 without phone service or a dial tone? She's couldn't answer that but assured me that everyone with dry line service has to pay it.
I think its a bunch of BS

CenturyLink CPNI (Privacy)
Disclaimer: My apologies if this was already posted or discussed.
I just received the attached mailer from CenturyLink regarding Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI)
My recommendation is to take 30 seconds to call and opt-out of CL sharing your information.
Summary:
1. By default, CenturyLink will share your Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI).
2. CPNI data may include your personal information, web browsing history, phone and billing records.
3. To opt-out, call 1-877-225-0674, enter your service telephone number, and select "do not share"
Additionally, it might be good practice to use a reputable VPN service, which will encrypt traffic from [Your Device] --> across CL network to --> [VPN Server] before it "hits" the internet.

Updated Minneapolis speed test map
I re-ran the addresses contained in the map in this thread: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29723767-Minneapolis-Centurylink-Speed-map-Including-Fiber-rollout-
(Direct link: http://www.easymapmaker.com/map/6347814ae5d946a2fcc4cd60647ca456)
New map from data gathered last night: http://www.easymapmaker.com/map/cl_speed_1-15-2015
So there are now traces of gig internet in Hopkins and St. Paul (uncheck everything but 1000 at the bottom to see them).
I have a python script that runs the addresses to check their speeds, and I hope to update the map from time to time to see the progression of CL fiber.
-----------------------------------------------
Edit 5/11/2016:
Instructions on how to run this yourself using Vagrant, Ansible and VirtualBox:
https://github.com/mtdoyle/CLSpeedPhantomJS/blob/master/README.md
I have included my giant list of addresses that will be downloaded as part of the instructions above.
Let me know if anything doesn't work!
NOTE: running this script with a large amount of addresses takes a LOT of bandwidth. Each run for me eats up somewhere between 20-40Gb of data. If your internet is capped, you might want to only use a smaller subset of addresses.

CenturyLink modem/router not translating signal?
Hey guys. Recently upgraded to vdsl-2 25mbps from dsl 10mbps. I had to upgrade to vdsl capable router. CenturyLink sent out their licensed action-tec modem/router. It connects fine to the dsl, but the internet light flashes red to green and the modem seems to not configure the internet. #2 on this page describes the problem http://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/modem-lights-internet.html.
The issue has been escalated with-in CenturyLink, as the over-the-phone tech could not get the issue resolved. It is obviously on their end. Was wandering if any experienced people in here would know exactly what the issue could be?
EDIT: I have been through all troubleshooting exercises with a level 1 tech. Entered correct PPPoE user/pw multiple times. Reset multiple times, etc. etc. For some reason, the router will not authenticate on their end.

Post-promotional pricing for Gigabit fiber?
I've been considering switching for a while since CL ran fiber down my street in Seattle (Fremont neighborhood). I now see that there's an offer for 1-year promotional pricing at $79/month. Does anyone know what the standard pricing will be once the promotional period expires?
↧
Omg LoL WtF
Heads-up for CL users near, or in, Charlottesville .. there's wet stuff falling from the sky. And any fool here knows that CenturyLink's state of the art Tubez™ technology will buckle like a fat man with A-Fib in a beach chair any second now. 10Mbs, $50 a month 4 uporn on sunny days; praise Jesus.

T-mobile/ASUS router drops connection, while C2000T holds it
I'm CenturyLink VDSL customer with bonded-pair service.
In my opinion, Century doesn't have router with features I need (NAT loopback, advanced port forwarding, 5GHz WiFi...)
So, I was using Technicolor C2000T as a modem, in a bridge mode plus T-Mobile router (which is re-branded ASUS RT-AC68U).
Router configured to connect via PPPoE.
And I noticed, that I often (few times per hour) losing my Internet connection for brief periods (5-15 seconds). While that happening my router shows Internet status as DISCONNECTED.
While troubleshooting I removed the router and enabled build-in router of the Technicolor C2000T and now it much better.
Here is link to Before (T-Mobile router) / After (Technicolor C2000T) graph as drawn by PingPlotter:
https://slavikf.com/Shared/Router.png
I was thinking, that it is only modem responsible for Internet connection, and router just handles my LAN. Obviously I was wrong. But I do not understand - why is it? How router can contribute to WAN disconnects?
Should I get new router or can I somehow configure it to be more stable?

Over Subcribed DSL Line
We were sold a standard DSL line on a rural county road. Other than satellite and cell hotspot we have no other choices. One year into our now five years of DSL, they over subscribed the line and our slow response time went further down. We average close to ten service calls per year. The customer service folks read their scripts well in their heavy, hard to understand at times, accents. We have been given a promotional discount which we have to call and ask for that cut our bill but the bill has never been the problem. Today I decided to go to Verizon unlimited even though it will cost a little more. It cannot be worse than Centurylink.
Oh, and last night our recently out of warranty modem died. $100 or $10 bucks a month was their only offers.

What is going on with CenturyLink?
I ordered service on a new build a month ago and have had 2 no call no show appointments. A bit ridiculous. Sadly this area has no other options.
