Ended first year with Century Link Prism TV and Internet on Fiber. No complaints except for the Prism TV interface.)Decided to see what the retention Group could do for me for the 2nd year. No help at all. So decided to buy the router from them and took a 2 year contract to lower the price by $20 a month. Didn't realize they were going to send me a brand new router(C2100T). It showed up but with instructions for DSL installation.
Does anyone know if there is a cheat sheet out there that gives the essentials for the settings in the router for Prism TV, etc? I'm aware of the V-lan tag 201 and the IP-TV settings.
I have 3 IPW8000s' and the DVR.
Searched on the internet and Cen-Link web site but haven't been able to find anything.
Thanks for any help in advance.

CL Actiontec C1000A modem doesn't route?
I just received an Actiontec C1000A modem from Century link to replace my previous M1000 preparatory to them upgrading to VSDL. The M1000 didn't have wireless, so I have the DSL modem connected to a Linksys router with WiFi. I thought I'd try the WiFi on the new modem and it worked fine -- except that the computer connected to it via WiFi can't see any of the other computers on the network. I happened across a posting somewhere from a few years ago that seemed to indicate that was a fault of the modem itself: it wasn't designed to route. Can anyone confirm if that is indeed the case? Possibly relevant, possibly not, is that when I run the diagnostic test it says ethernet fails (everything else passes), but as far as I can tell it's working perfectly.

Fiber issue
I have Century Link Fiber 1,000 mbps upload and 1,000 mbps download. I seem to only be able to speedtest my connection over 900mbps for my download speed when I use the Century Link speed test utililty. Every other speed test I use depending on the city within my state I can't get over 300mbps or sometimes over 90mbps. I thought this was very odd, also when I am using youtube I buffer when I select 1080 HD. This doesn't always happen but it does happen. I don't think this ever should happen on my connection unless it's on the side of youtube, which I highly doubt. When I use Twitch.tv I get this as well, so I thought it may be the streamer I am watching. So I tried to stream multiple different streams, and they were the big streamers with the same thing. It buffers once in a while, which never should happen with my speed of internet.
I notice when I play a couple different games which I play a lot ( CS GO and PLayer Unknown Battlegrounds) I all of a sudden don't register my shots on certain servers. I have no way of knowing which servers they are because they are through ESEA and I don't have access to their ips, same with Playerunknown. I do know that they are on different servers because my ping is different on each game. Since I just brought up ping, I have noticed sometimes when I am on a Seattle server for ESEA ( CS GO ) I have over 30 or 40 ping. I am 3 hours drive from Seattle, I know I am in a seattle server because the people I am playing with are also in the state of Washington and they have between 11 and 20 ping. I can't figure out why I am getting over 30 and 40 sometimes. I understand what routing is, but I have seen 13 ping there before while playing.
Also I just did this line quality test here on the website, can anyone tell me what the red is below? I believe its my jitter, or loss or packet loss to Virginia. This I see is an Amazon server, which is who hosts the servers for Playerunkown Battlegrounds. Is this the issue I am having??? I have done 3 tests, the last test is after I registered here on the site. All 3 tests have shown red between 31% and 71% for ip addresss 54.239.111.96 which is State/Region: Virginia
City: Ashburn

[Embarq] Any Benefit to Upgrading to VDSL on Slower Plans?
I am in a VDSL(2?) area and am offered up to 40/5 but due to costs I am subscribed to only 10/1.
I am using my own ADSL2+ modem to avoid the $10/mo lease fee.
I am averaging 10.18 mbps down and 0.780 mbps up.
My line is synced at 11.804 mbps down and 0.919mbps up.
My question is would I benefit from upgrading to a VDSL modem? I would like to try to get my full 1 mbps upload.

[Embarq] Is there any way to use an Embarq modem on a different ISP?
The story goes like this:
Couple months ago I bought an Embarq 660r modem off eBay, as I'm not from the US I thought it was a pretty darn good deal as it was dirt cheap (I just needed a modem and my desperation led to me buying it without doing some research)
FF'ing to the day it arrives, I tested it right away and everything seemed mint with the only exception it wouldn't work if I plugged the ethernet directly to the PC, it just worked hooking it up to a router. I didn't mind this as it was intended to be used with my TP-Link router. Anyway, I went on to configure my ISP's parameters and such and I started to surf like I'd normally do. Problem started ~10 minutes later, ¡f I tried to surf on my phone it'd ask me for a login, and surfing through the PC redirected me to a CenturyLink Setup page, in which I had to enter some credentials (guessing all their clients have) but since I'm obviously not a client I tried contacting support. They told me to factory reset it by pressing down the reset button for a minute or so. Did it as they told me with no luck, kept me redirecting to their Setup page. I even tried flashing a new firmware with no luck either. So I just gave up and bought another modem, this one working flawlessly. So my question is, can their Setup page be "bypassed"? Or is there any way to avoid getting redirected to their page? Or should I just forget it and embrace the fact that I might've wasted my money on this modem? Any help will be truly appreciated.

Talktous no longer responding
Hello again,
***Please read first. I have no intentions on upsetting anyone and I really don't enjoy writing this as I have other things to do. This is not meant to allow others to bash centurylink. your problem with centurylink are yours. I have posted this to have public record of progress with issues that can no longer be resolved through the chains given to me as a customer. I would rather do this before involving any service commission that would not be beneficial to anyone.***
The issues we have had over the years have usually been resolved after an email to talktous@centurylink.com (or mostly IHD Escalations people, who now say I have the wrong department). After spending hours on the phone with tech support to check if my modem is plugged in to the wall or resetting all factory defaults and trying this or that setting, I started emailing issues with speed tests logged. That was what now seems to be the good old days.
Since back in late 2014 our connection is at its best 2mbps down(I got excited when we reached 5 down with latency of 113 once), with latency being 200+. Upload speeds seem to be close to the norm at .40-.70. I sent an email to Talktous@centurylink.com on the 13th of July and have had no response.
The last few interactions let me know how much of a miracle it is to have 10Mbps here. I've also been told of the known bottleneck in Basile, La. My normal download speed at 5:30AM is .9*Mbps. Trying to check into work after hours is impossible. A lot of the time I can't load centurylink.com without finding something to do while waiting. Just in case anyone is wondering, yes, I have unplugged everything but my pc to test speeds. I was also born the day before yesterday and not quite yesterday. I now have a fresh OS install on this pc. I also check with my work laptop directly connected while trying not to drive 40 Min. away to the office when the issue could be addressed without leaving my family at 2AM.
This connection used to be fixed promptly when we could work together on it. I wish I could say the same is still true.
So, have you guys just given up? Is my only option to cancel service because this feat of 10Mbps is unobtainable? Why cant someone just tell me this instead of taking my $80 per month?
Is it possible to provide you guys with direct burial cat6 to replace a bad line? A trencher isn't that hard to obtain, so could I provide one and you guys rerun a line? I could also provide access to the easement and get dottie out, get a schedule and take off of work to allow for the pull. Are there some power issues somewhere that we could address with engineered solar backup banks? I'm willing to put up some personal capital in this to help provide what I've been paying for. I would really appreciate some sort of thought. When this connection works correctly it allows me to spend more time at home. Not much more, but enough to find it important.
EDIT*** I updated my profile to reflect that I no longer live in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Currently live in Reeves, Louisiana. Just would like to be as up front as possible.

CenturyLink modem/router recommendation
I have an ADSL internet feed from CenturyLink in the US, 40 downstream and 20 upstream. Currently I have a Technicolor C2100T modem/router, which is fine, but somewhat limited in its configurability, and with a number of bugs both in its user interface and capabilities. I would like to replace it with a more flexible device. Here are my requirements:
- It must be a modem and a router, like the C2100T.
- It must support my 40/20 internet feed.
- It must have WiFi support, like the C2100T. If it has 5g support, even better; however, that is not critical.
- It must be completely configurable when it comes to port forwarding. The C2100T won't allow you to change forwarding schemes for some ports (they seem to be reserved for specific applications) and only allows you to forward an external port to the same internal port; for example, it won't allow me to forward port 5780 to 6880 - it forces the forwarding to be 5780 to 5780.
- It must be completely configurable when it comes to assigning IP addresses and DNS servers by DHCP. The C2100T does this in theory, but in practice it seems to ignore the DNS servers that I specify for this situation.
Recommendations on what device to get meeting those requirements would be much appreciated.

New $2.00 recurring charge on long distance plan.
This isn't broadband related, but last week Centurylink sent me a postcard saying they were going to add a new $2.00 per line recurring charge on my long distance plan. I called their customer service and the agent said it was a new tax by Washington State. I contacted the WA department of revenue and they haven't heard about any new telephone tax. I sent an e-mail back to Centurylink asking to clarify what the tax is for (it hasn't shown up on my bill yet so I don't have the official name for it). Has anyone else seen this?

C2100T in bridge mode
I was thinking to replace my Technicolor C2100T modem/router with a different modem/router box, but all the people I have discussed this with (all of them far more knowledgeable on these issues than me) advise me to keep the C2100T and set it into bridge mode, and get a nice router. I have seen a number of threads in this forum about setting the C2100T into bridge mode, so I should be (hopefully) all right there. I am in doubt as to how to connect the C2100T to the router though.
The C2100T currently has internal IP address 192.168.0.1. Will it keep that address in bridge mode? If so, I guess the router will have to have some external IP address in the 192.168.0 network, and an internal IP in a different network. And the CenturyLink credentials configuration would still have to be done in the C2100T.
Some have told me that that is not the way it works. When a modem/router box is set in bridge mode, for all practical purposes it just passes the data transparently to the router, conceptually as if the latter were directly connected to the DSL. In this setup, no configuration is done in the modem/router (the C2100T, in my case). Instead, everything is done in the actual router connected to the modem/router, including the CenturyLink-supplied credentials that have to be used to access their Internet services, and the static IP address(es) supplied by CenturyLink.
Which if these two views is right for the C2100t? Actually, is either of them right?

How to Access C2000t in bridge mode
I apologize if this has been asked before. But I have a C2000t in 8/35 trans bridge mode. How can I access the modems gui. Right now I have a Linksys 1900ACS for my router.
And one other question, Whenever I do a ping test, lets say ping google.com -t in CMD how consistent do the return pings need to be? Are they suppose to be within 1-2ms of each other?
Thank you.

At long last, my ADSL connection consistently runs flat-out!
Nearly 5 years ago, I rewired the Cat3 telephone wiring in my house with Cat5e cable, which caused a big boost in the speed of my 7Mbps Centurylink T1.413 ADSL connection, but it still wouldn't run full-throttle. In addition, at times the speed would drop to around 4Mbps and I needed to call CenturyLink DSL support to have them reset my connection. After the reset, my connection runs at about 6.8Mbps, which is where it usually tops-off.
A year ago, I purchased a ZxXEL C1100Z from a CenturyLink store, which is my first modem that, at times, runs at 7Mbps! However, this modem exhibits the same connection speed stability problems like all of the other modems that I've used. I received feedback on this forum that I should bypass the wiring inside my house, by connecting directly to the jack inside my network interface box, and then measure the connection speed. However, this is tricky for me to do and I decided that it's too much effort!
About 7 weeks ago, I called CL DSL support because the speed of my connection downshifted to 4Mbps. However, CL changed their procedures and it was necessary for them to send a technician to my house to measure the speed at the network interface box, before they would reset my connection. If the speed at the network interface was 7Mbps, I would be charged for this service call. The connection speed was restored to 6.8Mbps without me receiving either a phone call from the technician, nor a charge for the service call!
A few days later, my DSL connection reset during prime time and my modem synced-at 7Mbps, which I've never seen before! Now my connection consistently runs flat-out and I believe it's because CL fixed a problem in their network! If you compare the attached DSL Status web page with the values in my earlier thread, you'll see that they are identical.
It's been a real pain for me to get a stable 7Mbps connection and now I know better than to become a professional DSL network technician! :)

CenturyLink Install - Modem and Router Issues
CenturyLink installed 40/5 Mbps service yesterday. When I called for a start of service, I had discussed with the sales person which of the DSL Modems on the modem compatibility list https://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/mobile/modem-compatibility-table.html to get. He gave three options, including the ZyXEL C1100Z and the ActionTec C1900A, the only major difference between the two was that the ZyXEL could not bond. I bought the C1100Z from newegg for $70 with the hope of avoiding modem lease fees (something like $10/month)
The installer came with a C1900A. I showed him the ready to go C1100Z and said I wanted to install with that modem and he said OK. When he hooked up the modem at the end of the install, it would not reach the ready state, even though the indicator lights indicated there was some handshaking. He mentioned that this area was using a "vectoring" system which had a longer modem readying time He hooked up a handheld test meter in the house, on the side of the house, then went to other boxes in the neighborhood that were a drive away. After about an hour, he came back and said that a bonding modem was needed, requiring the use of the C1900A modem.
The installer moved the ethernet cable from the Cox cable modem to the C1900A modem. My computer browser could not see the Internet. My computer was connected to a Dlink DIR-825 router, which was connected to the C1900A modem. Switching my computer's ethernet cable from my router to the C1900A resulted in success and a speedtest.net test of 40/5 Mbps.
My question: How do I get the Dlink router to work with the C1900A router, so that I can leave my existing network connections the same? Things of I have tried: I rebooted the Dlink router and then issued the ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew command on my Windows7 box. No luck. I noticed that the C1900A and the Dlink router used the same IP address. I changed the IP of the Dlink router from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1, rebooted the Dlink, and reissued the ipconfig /release and /renew commands on my computer. Same problem of my computer not seeing the Internet (I did not unplug the plug in the C1900A modem, would this have helped?)
The installer had turned off wireless on the C1900A modem/router from his cell phone at my request.
2nd question: The installer said that I would not be charged for the C1900A modem if I returned it at the end of service. I clarified that I would not be charged a leasing fee, and he said no leasing fee. Is that possible, because the website reads, and the sales person stated, that you are charged either a one time buying fee of $100, or you pay a monthly lease fee of $10.
I was rather careful up front asking and reading which modem would be OK to buy, and I still got directed to buy the wrong modem. Can I return the C1900A modem at the end of service and NOT be charged any modem fees in the interim, as per the installer?

[CenturyTel] Random slow page loads
Hi, I use CL DSL and I've been seeing pages loading at unbelievably slow speeds if at all. These include large sites such as Walmart, Wunderground (weather), eBay, and Lycos. This has been going on for a couple of weeks it seems. Logins seem to almost completely hang, with just the little disc rotating in the browser address area. Also, this seems to be happening randomly, a site will load properly one time then not the next. I'm in Tucson, AZ and the weather has been hot, windy, and rainy. I've called TS and according to them "it's random sites so it's the sites problem contact their admin." I'm wondering if anyone else here is having the same problem.

Need cheap alternative to Actiontec PK5001A
My Actiontec PK5001A modem reboots multiple times per day, so I probably need to replace it. I'm stuck in Minneapolis with 12Mbps ADSL (PPPoE) Centurylink and don't want to spend much. Looking around, I found a cheapo from TRENDnet but can't locate any reviews.
Does anyone know if TRENDnetâs N300 WiFi ADSL 2+ Modem Router, model TEW-723BRM (http://www.trendnet.com/products/proddetail?prod=270_TEW-723BRM) would be a reasonable & compatible replacement for the old Actiontec?
Thanks for any help and my apologies if this was a breach of etiquette or posted in the wrong forum.

Does a PPPoE "modem" without router functionality exist?
I'm going to be moving to a new place next month that offers CenturyLink gigabit service. Currently, I have service with Comcast, so this is going to be a bit of a change for me.
I use pfSense for my firewall at home, and I'm not really looking to change that, nor am I looking to replace the hardware I have for it right now. However, there's an issue there. From doing some reading around, it looks like I'm going to run into https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/4821 which is eventually going to be fixed, but it's probably multiple years out. Meanwhile, because of that issue, my hardware's going to probably be capped at about 600mbps if I replace the CenturyLink hardware with it, as my downstream data will all be forced into one queue on one CPU core.
So, I'm hoping to find a solution here that will allow my pfSense box to not be behind a NAT gateway and have a public IP address while not running into that issue. The only thing I can think of is if some sort of device exists that can do the PPPoE termination and VLAN tagging and then use DHCP to pass through the resulting connection info.
Does something like that exist? Or, if not, is there another route I can go here without replacing my pfSense box?

Been trying to get service for 2.5 weeks, no one ever shows up...
Hi, so to make a very long story short something went wrong when i signed up 2.5 weeks ago.
So I had an appointment for the 7th and a truck shows up to just run fiber from street to door. They say the tech is usually a few hours behind.
So i wait no one shows. i call and for some reason they had no tech coming due to some kind of screwup on my account. Ok fine.. they set one up for fri the 14th.
Lo and behold on monday the 11th a tech shows up out of the blue, hooks up my ONT and we plug in my router and bam internet..Great you'd think.
But a day later they call me about TWO!! lines they think they are putting in on fri 14th. I say no, i already have internet and the lady says "oh, ill just cancel these 2 and leave it at that"
At 6pm on the dot my internet goes out and when i call the next day it turns out she cancelled my working internet and i STILL have an appoint ment on fri to put in, guess what..internet.
I try to get them to just turn back on my account that worked fine for 2 days but they "can't" (which is nonsense), so i wait on fri till about 3. Then call, guy tells me "nope, no one is coming i dont see anything"
@#$#@$@, so after 2.5 hours on the phone with him he says he'll call back when he fixes it. No one calls back.
I call today and they say "well a tech is coming today!"...i get all excited figuring ok fine im home anyhow.
At 2.30pm i call to double check and now suddenly my tech is coming the 19th.. what..the everloving f@#$
So how can i be sure someone will show up on the 19th? and take ANOTHER day off work to wait for nothing.
How hard can it be to install internet...seriously :P
Any centurylink person able to give me a definite answer because this is costing me more than staying with cox would :P
