I have been told that Centurylink raised the data cap on all HSI speeds (except the 1 Gig speed, which has no cap I believe) to 1 terabyte.

Talktous no longer responding
Hello again,
***Please read first. I have no intentions on upsetting anyone and I really don't enjoy writing this as I have other things to do. This is not meant to allow others to bash centurylink. your problem with centurylink are yours. I have posted this to have public record of progress with issues that can no longer be resolved through the chains given to me as a customer. I would rather do this before involving any service commission that would not be beneficial to anyone.***
The issues we have had over the years have usually been resolved after an email to talktous@centurylink.com (or mostly IHD Escalations people, who now say I have the wrong department). After spending hours on the phone with tech support to check if my modem is plugged in to the wall or resetting all factory defaults and trying this or that setting, I started emailing issues with speed tests logged. That was what now seems to be the good old days.
Since back in late 2014 our connection is at its best 2mbps down(I got excited when we reached 5 down with latency of 113 once), with latency being 200+. Upload speeds seem to be close to the norm at .40-.70. I sent an email to Talktous@centurylink.com on the 13th of July and have had no response.
The last few interactions let me know how much of a miracle it is to have 10Mbps here. I've also been told of the known bottleneck in Basile, La. My normal download speed at 5:30AM is .9*Mbps. Trying to check into work after hours is impossible. A lot of the time I can't load centurylink.com without finding something to do while waiting. Just in case anyone is wondering, yes, I have unplugged everything but my pc to test speeds. I was also born the day before yesterday and not quite yesterday. I now have a fresh OS install on this pc. I also check with my work laptop directly connected while trying not to drive 40 Min. away to the office when the issue could be addressed without leaving my family at 2AM.
This connection used to be fixed promptly when we could work together on it. I wish I could say the same is still true.
So, have you guys just given up? Is my only option to cancel service because this feat of 10Mbps is unobtainable? Why cant someone just tell me this instead of taking my $80 per month?
Is it possible to provide you guys with direct burial cat6 to replace a bad line? A trencher isn't that hard to obtain, so could I provide one and you guys rerun a line? I could also provide access to the easement and get dottie out, get a schedule and take off of work to allow for the pull. Are there some power issues somewhere that we could address with engineered solar backup banks? I'm willing to put up some personal capital in this to help provide what I've been paying for. I would really appreciate some sort of thought. When this connection works correctly it allows me to spend more time at home. Not much more, but enough to find it important.
EDIT*** I updated my profile to reflect that I no longer live in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Currently live in Reeves, Louisiana. Just would like to be as up front as possible.

Team Fishel installing fiber for CenturyLink in Phoenix?
Once again there are Team Fishel crews on my street. In the past, Team Fishel did work for Cox. When they were on our street two months ago my brother asked who they were working for and he was told CenturyLink. I made some calls to try and find out what exactly was being done. The CSR's I spoke to said there was nothing in the system. My brother went out and talked to one of them last saturday (6/18/2017) and was told they were installing fiber for CL and the work will be completed within the week. Anyone have a number to call to find out what is being done. I tried calling today and was rerouted several times and then was disconnected.

Latency Jitter While Uploading
Hey guys! I recently put a server together for some home virtualization. I have one VM working as a live encoding server to push my streams to twitch.tv, however when using any amount of upload - my latency jitters pretty sporadically.
I have a 20/5mbps connection, and if I use 4000kb upload, I get major jitter - anywhere from 35ms to 800ms while running a recursive ping to google.com. At around 3000k it's better, but still present. Even at 1000k upload, it's a lot smaller but still there.
I have a fairly older C1000Z modem, and the rest of my networking equipment is pretty decent - so I'm wondering if upgrading my DSL modem would help - or if there's some settings on my modem I can change, or if it's just the nature of my connection/DSL.
Network configuration is DSL Modem (transparent bridge) -> Ubiquiti Router -> TP-Link Switch -> Computer/server/wifi AP/etc.

How do I setup IPv6 Transparent Bridge mode on C1100Z
IPv4 PPPoE on the router works great. I have a TP-Link C9 v1 router. It can do IPv6 PPPoE. What do I need to do to get PPPoE working on the router. I have the IPv4 PPPoE username and password. Do I reuse those for PPPoEv6? I have included a screen shot of the TP-Link setup page.
I do not want static IPv6, just regular dynamic ip.

How can Centurylink be so bad and still be in business?
I just had to get this off my chest,so please excuse the rant! This is the absolute worst incompetent company i have ever dealt with in my life. How i mean how! do they stay is business???
I have had Centurylink phone/dsl for at least 4-5 years.. I can say the only time DSL has ever worked to potential was the first 6 months i had it but it has been downhill ever since- I pay for a lousy 1.5Mbps and they cant even maintain that!
Since the first 6 months i had it,i have literally had to call every 2 weeks to 1 month for the same problems. The line ALWAYS tests good,so they claim, and its not the physical old copper either. Its always some server issue on their end and every single time they make me disconnect everything, reset the modem,etc... and it has never once been a problem on my end.
Sometimes after i get off the phone its magically working again, and i may get at least 1Mbps,but it never ever lasts long.As i sit here and type this the latest speedof.me test is showing 235ms ping with 70Kbps,sometimes the next test shows 2350ms ping and it wont finish the speed test. I am in the country, I am in a bandwidth exhaust area, but i dont expect perfect dsl, especially in prime time, i am realistic! but all i ask for is a lousy 1Mbps at least. I mine as well go to dialup, its cheaper and not much slower!
To all the other poor bastards out there that have no options but to use Centurylink and have spent half their life on their tech help or putting up with substandard service, i feel your pain.
The last person i talked with tonight was actually an American,or spoke english well enough to fool me. 24% packet loss on their end.. Be nice if they upgraded that old 286 server or whatever it is,or at least get someone in there to maintain it who has a clue. Sigh..
Oh and they have credited me some cost back for poor service on the last 2 bills, but i noticed the lastest bill jumped to $190! wtf.

Switching fiber from PPPoE to IPoE?
Has anyone ever tried to get centurylink to switch the WAN connection from PPPoE to IPoE without ordering prism tv?
I have gigabit fiber and unfortunately pfsense (freebsd) isn't able to make use of queues when processing inbound traffic. This results in a maximum of ~750mbps with my Atom C2758 based router. This isn't exactly a problem :) since it's pretty rare I'm even able to saturate that, but the geek in me would like to see ~940mbps :)
Wondering if anyone's tried to contact them to see if they'll switch my provisioning or any suggestions of how to do it? I know they don't support byo routers so but when I first signed up for fiber i got a great support guy that told me exactly what i needed to do to use my own router (VLAN tag, and told me to make sure to get the PPPoE credentials from the installer since the zyzel C1100Z apparently can't unmask the password) so that was pretty surprising :)

Mount Vernon MO-area construction?
Hello all, was wondering if there was anyone on this forum that was familiar with any of the new construction I have been seeing in the Mount Vernon, MO area?
Specifically I have been seeing cabled layed on Hwy 174 from near I-44 east to at least the Lawrence/Greene County line.
Familiar story...1.5M DSL "High Speed Internet" here for many years, with no evidence or prospect of upgrades...until now maybe?
Been lurking here for years, thanks to all the folks that contribute here.

How to get DSL repair
We had a storm and my DSL is retraining 5-10 an hour. Techs have told me the copper wires are old, in poor condition and I believe the problem is a "wet cable". From much past experience, getting CL to actually repair a line is harder than winning in court against city hall... Any tips?
I seem to remember
"escalate the problem"
"connect me to customer loyalty program"
"speak to a supervisor?

dsl tech upgrade of some kind in west suburban twin cities
Last week a web page popped up on me from CenturyLink (my ISP and DSL circuit provider). I didn't have time to read it carefully so bookmarked it to come back to later. The bookmark didn't work. The jist of what I read was that they were making technical upgrades that might require my modem to be replaced. There were also some dates but I didn't catch them; one for when compatibility would be determined, one for when the upgrade would take place. I have gone back and forth between technical service, customer care, and other numbers and their chat venues to find out what's going on. The interaction has been horrible, but I won't go into the details. I did finally get somebody to tell me my modem would have to be upgraded and a sales-type person to give me my options, she even said she thought Best Buy would have compatible modems (but their website doesn't show any.) Someone said I needed VDSL2+ (what I have is only ADSL2) but nothing about any other requirements. There is absolutely NOTHING on their website about all of this, and their list of modems is not helpful (I also understand it is out of date) because it lists some that are ADSL only, so it is clearly wrong. Other than that fleeting web page I have received no written (paper or email) communications from them about this, although my sense is that the go-live date was mid July if not earlier. I'm from Minnetonka, MN, zip 55345. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Is something up with the Boise node?
Ever since Saturday, I've been having very high latency, and my downstream goes from 26mbps to 5mbps at night. Literally no problems before then. A tracert also shows one of the hops routing me through Denver, as well which I find pretty odd.

CL C1900A to cascade to Netgear R8000 help?
Is this an alright idea? Or should I cascade my R8000 to a different router entirely (I have a backup R7000 if necessary)?
Currently my C1900A is bridged to my R8000 (ip gateway) and it runs perfectly. I am interested in expanding my capabilities throughout my house, and since my C1900A is much closer to the area that I would like to add better service to I thought this may be easier than: modem/router > router > router, setup.
Any thoughts or suggestions and how to setup properly are greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

looking to drop landline from business dsl bonded pair
So looking to drop the landline portion from a bonded DSL connection. Curious if there are deals to be had if you do this. The lady seemed eager to do it, as they wanted to extend my contract for internet only.
when you drop landline and keep DSL, do you still have dial tone? or do they come out and sever your connection from the POTS switch? If the latter, that might not be a bad thing, as there is slightly less SNR on my POTS line as compared to the other DSL line.
↧
Upgraded from C1100z to C2000T
Decided to grab a C2000T off ebay for relatively cheap. However, my SNR went down from 15.5dB to 14dB on the downstream, and 12dB to 9dB on the upstream. I'm a VDSL 8A connection, connected at 20/5mbps (26mbps over provisioned).
Are there any settings or changes I should make? Does this modem report the SNR differently?
SNR: 14 dB 9 dB
Attenuation B1: 20.6 dB 4.1 dB
Attenuation B2: 54.6 dB 46.3 dB
Attenuation B3: 0.0 dB 0.0 dB
Power: 16 dBm 6 dBm
Edit: After a modem reboot, downstream SNR went up to 12.1 - so back to normal. Down is still a bit lower.

Order started as 40/5 Bonded, ended up being 40/2..
Wondering if anyone can help here - since CenturyLink hasn't been able to clarify this.
A week ago I placed an order to upgrade to 40/5 DSL here from my previous VDSL2 20M/896k line.
I was told repeatedly that the service would be 40/5 Bonded.
Install happened, and, the modem says 40/2, 20 / 1.018 per pair; VDSL2 8A. Confirmation letter says "40Mbps/2Mbps".
The loop length here is right about 1000 ft, the DSLAM is rather close; and I can't help but wonder as to why it ended up being 40/2 instead of 40/5?
Finally upgrading off of that horrendous 896k upstream was one of my main reasons for upgrading. I guess it ~is~ faster still, but was really hoping for the 40/5 they initially promised...
Is there anything I can do about this? Should I be thankful I got a bonded 40 service, since this seems to be (or at least was at one point), rare?

Paying for 20/5, only getting 12/1. Any ideas?
Paying for 20/5 bonded vectored service. I'm only getting 12/1. (see below)
Is there anything I can do to improve this?
Also, why is the loop length on DSL2 1000' longer than DSL1?

New to DSL, is it possible to get more than CL says?
Hi all-
Here is my long story short (as possible)-
I moved to FL about 3.5 years ago. Had Comcast cable modem service since, shoot, at least like 2000 or '01 at the latest... over the years the speed went up from however-slow to 6 Mbps to 18 Mbps to 21 Mbps, shortly before I moved they 'doubled' the Blast! speed to 50 Mbps DL, I want to say 7-10 UL ... I was very fortunate to just 'transfer' my service with Comcast when I moved down to FL , and the house that I rented for the last 3.5 years [while building] also had Comcast Blast (Plus) cable modem service. A year or two ago they more than doubled the service to 105 Mbps, was going up to about 125 for a month or two, then they 'reduced the free upgrade' to 75 Mbps / 10 Mbps [realistically was seeing about 85+ DL / 11-13 UL] .... finally, after long last, my house I have been building about 20 miles away is finished, I moved in a few weeks ago.
However, here is the hard part. All I could get was CenturyLink DSL. It was CenturyLink or satellite. Comcast had assured me they're working on huge upgrades, they'd have my new neighborhood wired before I even finished construction! Not even in their planned area of expansion apparently. CenturyLink was the best I could do. They said they could give me 7 Mbps DL and "whatever the best we can do" UL. Then it was, 6 Mbps DL. Now that it has been installed for 2 weeks, it is in fact 6 Mbps DL most of the time, but only like .446 UL. It's very tough having spend the last 15+ years having some of the best and fastest connections residentially available and now I'm at the bottom of the barrel.
My questions are this- CenturyLink was all in a tizzy to tell me how they recently switched to "One price for life, no contract!" pricing, and how they're undergoing nationwide upgrades, I might get faster service someday! Oh gee, great. What I want to know is, since i know so very little about DSL, could I get them to give me more service if I paid more, or got more wiring installed etc.? What I mean to say is, I have read about VDSL and VDSL2 and VDSL+ and bonded DSL and combining several DSL lines at a certain speed to multiply them etc. Is that something that is possible, they just didn't offer it to me, or is it only possible in certain areas etc?
If you want my info, here is what I can provide for background. Right now, I get this in my modem settings-
7.069/0.446 Mbps (it was something like .576 UL the first day, and I had an outage as soon as the sun went down the first night, it went out all night, when the next morning came around, the net worked again, the the UL was set to .446, and has been ever since.)
Line mode is ADSL2Plus
"Estimated Loop Length 7288 feet" -- this is bad right? Is this the length to the nearest big-huge network box? That would make sense, it's about that far away it seems to me, same neighborhood development but several big streets over. The nearest small "network box" is at the corner of my driveway, but I live on 30 acres, and my driveway is about 700 feet away, plus above 100 feet to the house, so we (the install tech) and I estimated the length from the house control panel to the network box to be a bit less than 1000.
DSL Power:
Levels
Downstream
Upstream
SNR
9.4 dB
22.1 dB
Attenuation
49.0 dB
30.0 dB
Power
19.2 dBm
12.4 dBm
(although it just rained and because there is only a temporary line run yet, they are coming supposedly Friday to permanently install a buried line, it seems to drop out when it rains, perhaps those numbers are lower than normal -- again I am a total DSL noob.)
What I am really wondering is, could I get them to give me more service/speed if we did some bamboozling of the service/setup? It's not that money is no object- far from it- but I certainly would be willing to pay more than the $45 if it will give me more speed. The idea of "bonded DSL" appeals to me , although I don't totally understand it- I am wondering if I could say, listen, hook up two lines so it's 12/1 etc. (or more etc. etc. etc.0
Ok thanks again, sorry if I rambled, I very much appreciate everyone's time and efforts.
