Putting C2000T in bridge mode for use with ASUS DD-WRT router

I have Bonded Pair DSL service from CenturyLink, which is sadly my only option. I am going NUTS trying to setup my C200T modem/router in bridge mode. I have read everything that I can find on this subject, both here and elsewhere on the web, and I have reached out to Century Link for help. I have done my best to follow instructions. I am fairly competent technically but this situation has me pulling my hair out. I am trying to put the C2000T in bridge mode so I can use it with an ASUS RT-AC56U 802.11AC Gigabit Router that has been flashed with DD-WRT. I have also setup NORD VPN using OPENVPN on the ASUS. It "works" with ASUS connected to the C2000T, but connected that way isn't the VPN fairly useless? Here's what I've done. 1) Put the C2000T into bridge mode, choosing Transparent Bridging 8/35 as directed by CenturyLink. Applied/Saved Settings and rebooted C2000T. 2) Set the ASUS DD-WRT for PPPoE, making sure that I used the PPPoE username and password provided by Century Link. Applied/Saved Settings and rebooted Asus. 3) Connected the ASUS via ethernet cable from C2000T port 1 to WAN port on Asus. I can't connect to the internet after doing all of this. The only thing that I can do at this point is hard reset the C2000T and go to connect.centurylink.com to go through their connection process. I am in a "walled garden" environment until I complete that process. Note: I did try just for grins to go to go to connect.centurylink.com on the Asus with the C2000T in bridge mode with no luck. Can someone who has actually done this before PLEASE offer insight? Is it even possible to do what I want to do or does CenturyLink have me so locked down that it is impossible?

Modem Bridging Problems

Hi, I have been having some issues trying to configure my modem recently. Basically, I want my Centurylink modem (ZyXEL C1100Z) to function solely as a modem (it includes a built-in router). I have a separate router that I've flashed with DD WRT, and I love it. I want the router doing the heavy lifting, because I'm not a fan of the modem at all. In the modem I want to: disable the wireless (which I can do) and set it to bridge mode. When I set it to bridge mode, however, the problem starts. I've chatted with Centurylink 6 times (I think) in the last 2 days. I asked for my ppp credentials, and only one managed to give them to me. Five of them said I didn't have ppp credentials for some reason or another, and one managed to give me a username and password. I don't know what to think. Also, the username didn't include @centurylink.net or @whatever.net. From my research, I thought the username would be the account holder's email, but now I'm not sure. Anyway, the credentials didn't seem to work. I set the modem to bridge mode and put the credentials into the router to no avail (as a side note, I couldn't seem to access the modem GUI through the router - I needed to plug directly into the modem and manually set my ip. Also, when I connected to the modem directly initially, I could use the internet but couldn't access the modem GUI. When I manually set my ip, I couldn't use the internet but could use access the modem GUI, and when I went to the setting for the bridge mode, it seemed to have updated the page with some credentials already filled in. It had changed the mode to "Auto," and the auto setting chose Bridge Mode, but it still had where you could put in credentials. I was thoroughly confused). Anyway, I don't know what to do. The Centurylink modem causes me nothing but problems, as did the old one (ZyXEL PK5001Z, which I still have if you recommend trying with that one). The internet will sometimes go out for a minute or two, and during that time period I can't access the modem GUI either. It's not the router's fault as this is still the case with the router disconnected and me being plugged into the modem with an ethernet cable. I'm considering buying my own modem, but I don't know much about that or if it would even change anything. I read the the Centurylink modem compatibility table (https://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/mobile/modem-compatibility-table.html) is outdated. Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated.

[Qwest] Upgrade from Actiontec C1000A to Technicolor C2000T Modem

I have been with Centurylink (Qwest) for more than 10 years. My ADSL2 connection is 7M DL/ .896 UL, however even though I had Centurylink reset my connection to 7, it still comes back to 6M after a few days. This post is for anyone who has an Actiontec C1000A modem and who is interested in upgrading to the Technicolor C2000T modem. I purchased the C1000A, maybe four years ago at Walmart after my previous Netopia modem started having issues. My home network is a bit complicated, as I have the ADSL modem connected to a pfsense computer which acts as a router/firewall. From the pfsense box, the connection goes to a network switch. The 8-port switch is then the connection point to a couple of netgear wireless routers that are setup in Access Point mode only, running DD-WRT. This means the C1000A modem had its wireless networking turned off and was strictly used to send everything wired to the pfsense box. The differences between the C1000A and the C2000T: - The web interface for the C2000T is much faster and responsive. - The C2000T is slightly bigger in physical size. - The C2000T has two external antennas for wireless that are removable. (Note I do not use the wireless networking at all, so not sure if it is any better.) - The C2000T takes longer to restart and acquire a connection to Centurylink. (This is due to the fact that it is a bonded modem and checks for dual connections I assume). The C2000T did not improve any of my ADSL connection statistics. I still see the same connection. However I may call Centurylink and have them try to reset my connection back to 7M to see if it makes a difference. Recently I started having some noise issues with the connection (including the landline phone) and Centurylink has fixed the line a couple of times. Here is what the DSL connection stats look like. Note my ADSL connection is in ATM mode and not PPPoE. Overall, I think my home network is a little bit better with the upgrade. The ADSL connection is the bottleneck in my network obviously and the C2000T is a slightly more responsive box, so I would recommend upgrading to this modem if you are in a similar situation. [CenturyTel] Pending pending pending re-install in Mansfield OH area

Friend's sister had promised 10Mb service that delivered ~4. She got some CenTel offer to move to 25 w/Direct TV streaming. She accepted, and a contractor installed buried 3-pair, cutting down the existing functional aerial. And that was days ago. Repeated phone calls get vague promises but no results. Meanwhile no service. Suggestions?

Mount Vernon MO-area construction?

Hello all, was wondering if there was anyone on this forum that was familiar with any of the new construction I have been seeing in the Mount Vernon, MO area? Specifically I have been seeing cabled layed on Hwy 174 from near I-44 east to at least the Lawrence/Greene County line. Familiar story...1.5M DSL "High Speed Internet" here for many years, with no evidence or prospect of upgrades...until now maybe? Been lurking here for years, thanks to all the folks that contribute here.

Unstable Line

Hi, I called Centurylink two days ago about my line being unstable. I did the test on the CL website, and sometimes it gives my a green check for all good, and sometimes it says Line Unstable. The guy said yes, looking from the last 10 days the line did appear unstable. He sent a tech, and the tech couldn't find anything, so he just replaced the modem. How can I convince a tech that something is wrong? Is there a way to test for line instability on my modem/router? Thanks.

C1100Z Moderate NAT on XBOX Live

I have a Zyxel C1100Z. No other routers in between. I have followed xbox support's TS guide and their end resolution results in me putting my XBO in the DMZ. I'm not sure about leaving it that way but its the only way I've achieved a open NAT. I've tried port forwarding and still moderate. I've turned off and then back on UPnP and no change. I've got ipv6 enabled as well. I don't know if CL has something they can do on their end or if I'm just missing something?

Gigabit Install - Seattle - Failing PPP Authentication

Moved into a new apartment today - have an active Gigabit account - however there is no Internet light on the Calix equipment. I played around with a few things and noticed I'm failing PPP Authentication. Does anyone know if this is something that can be fixed over the phone? Or do I need to have a tech out?? I did notice there is a section to enter a username and password. Customer service has been next to worthless. Thanks!

CenturyLink CPNI (Privacy)

Disclaimer: My apologies if this was already posted or discussed. I just received the attached mailer from CenturyLink regarding Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI) My recommendation is to take 30 seconds to call and opt-out of CL sharing your information. Summary: 1. By default, CenturyLink will share your Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI). 2. CPNI data may include your personal information, web browsing history, phone and billing records. 3. To opt-out, call 1-877-225-0674, enter your service telephone number, and select "do not share" Additionally, it might be good practice to use a reputable VPN service, which will encrypt traffic from [Your Device] --> across CL network to --> [VPN Server] before it "hits" the internet.

C2000t Bridge mode, still no port forwarding

Greetings! I have very little hair left at this point and I'm too old to lose much more! I managed to get the C2000T in bridged mode on my DSL bonded service line. It's connected to a Linksys EA6900. Everything except port forwarding is working just fine. FYI I used this router on a cable network with the same ports forwarded and the same IP addresses on the local house network so I know this setup works. When I try to access the ports either with the house "IP" address and port number or using the DYNDNS I get connection refused. This is for some security cameras and they are the same cameras I used previously and they are working fine. The only change is Century Link DSL. Does putting the C2000T in bridged mode turn off NAT in the C2000T or do I need to do it manually? I followed previous posters suggestion to enter all the "broadband" connection settings in the C2000T prior to setting bridge mode on so there were no problems getting the C2000T in bridged mode and connecting. What doesn't seem to work is getting through from the outside. I called Century Link and they swore that no traffic was blocked so from their viewpoint, it's not their problem. Any ideas? I'm not a genius with these things but I am persistent..... so any pointers are appreciated!

Modem charges for fiber to the house?

I have 100Mb duplex service to our property. I've had it for about 3 years. I love it! Other than that I checked my bill the other day and noticed I was getting hit with a $9.99 monthly modem rental fee. I don't have a modem, I have an ONT. I read on here from others that I should not be getting charged a monthly fee for the ONT. I tried emailing the Talktous email, and they seemed clueless. In fact, after a couple of emails, they just stopped responding. I called one of the numbers I found in another thread here, and talked to a customer service rep, who also was clueless. However, she created a tech ticket for a tech to come out to my house, and verify that I don't have a modem. Once they do that they'll note the file and remove the charge and all back charges. Anyone else have issues like this??

Team Fishel installing fiber for CenturyLink in Phoenix?

Once again there are Team Fishel crews on my street. In the past, Team Fishel did work for Cox. When they were on our street two months ago my brother asked who they were working for and he was told CenturyLink. I made some calls to try and find out what exactly was being done. The CSR's I spoke to said there was nothing in the system. My brother went out and talked to one of them last saturday (6/18/2017) and was told they were installing fiber for CL and the work will be completed within the week. Anyone have a number to call to find out what is being done. I tried calling today and was rerouted several times and then was disconnected.

I just switched from Comcast to CenturyLink. But I'm having problems with self-installing and activating my internet. Specifically, everything is plugged in, right lights are showing, etc. But the Xfinity activation page keeps appearing on my browser instead of a CenturyLink activation page? How do I fix this? I'm desperate.

Upgrade Questions

Have had mostly trouble-free 10mbps DSL service from CL for many years with copper incoming line. CL rep said in order to upgrade DSL speed they would 'bond the connection of wires' at the phone jack, but could not describe the process further. Can someone elaborate on what this means and why it allows faster speeds? Has anyone had experience with this? Also, he said CL guarantees 80% of purchased speed and pricing up to 25mbps is $45, and 40 or 60mbps is $55. Having one price for a range of speeds sounds odd. Are they going to just provide 80% of the lowest speed in the range? They also said we would have to use their modem C1100Z. We currently use a router in bridge mode with old Embarq 660 modem. They said we could not use our router in bridge mode with their new modem. Any thoughts on this? Thanks for help!

"Important" This upgrade requires action on your part. If you take no action your HSI could be disabled. So I went chat with CL (1.5 hours) and really walked away feeling like I had no more info when I started than when they ended the chat. What I gather is some lines are being upgraded to high speed and my non-rented/owned Actiontec Q1000 Qwest modem can't be firmware updated so they wanted me to rent a modem from them. Seems ok for CL but I refuse to pay a monthly rental--altough price never came up. After some convincing (he wanted SSN # to tell me which modem/routers will work with the upgrade which I would not give him) I managed to get a few models from him but I'd hate to end up with another that can't be updated. If anyone has had a similar issue please pipe in....also anyone that has any thoughts on which modem would be decent. The list he gave me was pretty short: Actiontec C1000a,Technicolor C2000T,Technicolor C1100T, Technicolor C2100T, Zyxel C1000Z, Zyxel C1100Z. Any thoughts? Thanks..

I cant even get a internet upgrade quote, without TV upsell.

I received a notification the internet in my area was upgraded. I called after the upgrade to see what new speeds were available. The guy started asking about what kind of tv i watch.... i said I was not interested in tv. I told him I want a quote for internet only. He starts to give me quote, but then starts talking about tv again. I say I am not interested in tv, I want an internet quote, and told him if you mention tv one more time I will hang up ............. consequently I hung up. Centurylink, You have been charging me high rates for years for sub-standard ( compared to cox) internet speeds, on ancient technology. Now that you upgrade your hardware, I can't even get get a proper quote, or upgrade because your customer service reps want to sell tv.

Gigabit service map for Phoenix area

Is there a map showing areas in and around Phoenix that have Centurylink gigabit service? I called Centurylink new customer sales, and they didn't know. Also, I tried entering addresses from Verrado in Buckeye AZ, and none of them were recognized when entered on the Centurylink web page. The addresses were from Google Maps and were valid. My internet search didn't find anything.
