Just to keep it short and simple:
Signed up for Verizon's unlimited plan with two lines, one for me and one for my wife. We will use our smartphones as hotspots to access the Internet on our laptops. I understand the limitations and am good with them.
Once Verizon service was confirmed, I call Centurylink to cancel my phone, unlimited long distance and 2 -3mb dsl lines. I'm told there will be a fee for ending my contract early. I say I've never signed up for a contract. The rep says I did. I ask to speak to her supervisor. The supervisor says I did as well. They are, of course, lying, but since I don't have any evidence to the contrary, I guess I am stuck paying an extra $200. After 20 years of uninterrupted service this is how Centurylink treats people. I was going to try to fight it but realize that they just want to excise that last bit of money from me. I was truly pissed earlier this afternoon right after it happened but realize that it's better just to put them in my rear view mirror. Centurylink sucks, that's my unbiased opinion.
If you are thinking about dealing with them...RECORD your conversations.

Prism TV Freezing when using high bandwidth
I'm in an apartment building downtown Minneapolis with gigabit Internet + Prism TV. I'm having issues when downloading large files (or consuming high bandwidth) that causes my Prism TV picture to freeze, stutter, dropout, etc.
I've had service since last summer but the problem only appeared to start when I switched apartments (in the same building). It's not a wireless issue as all the downloading I'm doing is over wired connection.
Using the standard CL provided C2100t modem/router.
Looking for suggestions...
Thanks!

Centurylink forcing contract on me.
Feb 24th 11:59 am - 27:36 call - Called about an internet upgrade. When going over the details I was told it would be a 12 month contract, and $200 cancellation fee if I cancelled before the 12 months was over. Upon hearing this I told him I didn't want to make that commitment, and I was told he was cancelling any upgrade.
Feb 27th I realized the internet had been upgraded anyway. 20:54 long call to centurylink. I was told it said in the notes from the first call I had cancelled any upgrade but it had somehow been put on a contract anyway. I was transferred, and after going over the details I was told the upgrade was removed, and the contract would be cancelled. I specifically asked if there would be a $200 cancellation fee, and told there would be no $200 fee
Mar 14th - 12:57 pm - 14:16 long call - I called to cancel my internet service and was told I was STILL on this new 12 month contract and they were going to charge me a $200 cancellation fee. I told them I would not pay this, and walked them through the past two calls. After talking to her supervisor I was told they would be cancelling my services tomorrow.
I better not see any kind of $200 charge. If so I am going to be talking to a lawyer about suing them for fraud. I know all these calls and recorded and documented through notes. I made sure it was cancelled on the phone two different times, and they're wanting to charge me anyway. I'm not going to stand for that.

C2100Z vs C2100T
Does anyone have any information on the difference between these two routers, besides one being made by Technicolor and one by Zytel?

CenturyLink GPON
I live in Central Texas, Copperas Cove. I am currently a Charter/Time Warner Customer. My family is going to be moving across town to a new neighborhood where I contacted Centurylink to see what speeds I can get at the new house. Their website says 25Mbps but I have been emailing the Supervisor for Region Operations and been told that 100Mbps GPON is available at my new residence.
Does anyone on here have any experience with this service?
Anyone know the DL/UL for it?
What are the install costs?
If this is true I plan to use my pfSense firewall to handle all routing without using any equipment from CL; doesn't seem to be that bad and my firewall supports vLANs.
Thanks for any help.

[CenturyTel] Caught In Century Link MyAccount Support Loop
Help! I can't access my CenturyLink account. I have spent hours patiently waiting and following instructions from CenturyLink support people. Today, when I told the support team member that we had been through the password reset option many, many times and even changed the user name, she said that resetting the password was all she can do to help. At least the previous support person directed me to email the unresolved issues department. I never heard back from them, though. Somebody has to be able to resolve my problem. All I get is standard procedures from their script. They have no department to send me to when they can't fix my problem. I am stuck in their endless and useless support loop. My opinion of their customer service has hit a new low. Anybody out there know how to get heard and get resolution for this problem?

New customer, bandwidth caps?
So I took the plunge, 25Mbps for 34.95 a month, plus their modem. What is the bandwidth cap limits and are they enforced? I remember years and years ago I had 7Mbps service and went way way over the limits. They did eventually cut me off a few months later, insisting I had to move to "Business" class service (at 4X the price, naturally) plus the long-term contract that comes with that.

Centurylink speed upgrade - not sure if worth it?
CL is offering me an upgrade from 12mbps to 20 for a 3 year price lock at the same rate I pay for 12, but I have to swap to a new modem and they have to send a tech out which I assume means doing something to the line. I've read a lot of stories on here over the years of people in rural areas being offered speed upgrades that the infrastructure in their area can't actually handle, so I'm a little leery of this. Can I consult line stats or something to determine if this is a good idea on my end, or should I just roll the dice? I'm worried the quality of my connection will go to hell and that downgrading/fixing it will prove a massive PITA.

C1900A Transparent bridging
I saw some similar threads but didn't see a resolution (and they're long since locked).
I have a Actiontec C1900A running the 20MB DSL service (to 10M lines in parallel). All was fine with the installation and with the switch to Transparent Bridging so I can plug my own router into it (and I also have a static IP). In transparent bridge mode the INTERNET light stays out and the WAN light blinks with traffic. Everything works great until I power cycle the modem.
Upon power cycle, the modem comes back with the Internet light alternating red/green. The thing appears to work except that every 35 seconds or so, it drops all the packets for four seconds, and then it goes back to normal. After the first time this happened, the CenturyLink tech and I hard reset the modem and started over and it worked fine. Subsequently, I have found that all I need to do is put it into "IPOE w/Static IP" for a minute and then return it to transparent bridge and it goes back to normal.
Any ideas?

Need link for the OEM C1100Z CZC002-4.16.012.9 firmware
Hey, everyone. I'm a network engineer and I work from home a lot. Just had CL out to my home to check on some intermittent outage issues. The tech stated that he doesn't know why I cannot see as available/download the 4.16.012.9 FW but he thinks it would help the issues I am having so I am willing to give it a try. I need help finding the bin file for that version so I can point the update utility to it. Can anyone help me out? Alternatively, can anyone running this version simply go into their firmware utility and re-download it and send it to me or post it somewhere? Thanks in advance!

[Prism TV] prism and static ip
I'm a long time voice/dsl user and signed up for a a gigabit/prism/phone package when it became available. Today when the tech came to install he told me I could not have my static ip with prism. To figure out how to proceed I need to know why it's not possible. Case 1) the vlan that prism requires simply won't work on a static ip, 2) it's not possible with the standard modem/router but could work with a more sophisticated unit, or case 3) the hardware is fine, but programming at the central station would be more involved than the techs are permitted. Any insight would be appreciated, I should add that my dsl is currently in bridge mode to a Mikrotik router which could tag my traffic as vlan 201.

New Fiber Optic Pea Ridge Arkansas
Not sure if anyone has or can get any information on this? I see they are running some fiber just a 1/2 mile down the road, hoping they will setup a HUB near so I can upgrade past the 1.5mbps.

ShieldsUP! and CenturyLink
I'm thinking of switching my ISP provider and am testing CenturyLink. I've always tested my firewall with ShieldsUP!
With my current cable provider all ports report as stealth. However, with CenturyLink only four ports so report and I fail the test.
I've received no meaningful help from CenturyLink. I noticed the firewall in my modem settings is disabled by default. However, enabling the firewall produces no change.
I believe CenturyLink uses PPPoE. Is that the problem. Is anyone else testing their ISP with ShieldsUP?

New fee added without consent and changes made without consent
Non-Published Non Listed Res 6.00 a month fee added last month on bills.
This is the worst company on the face of the earth for products, services and support. You have to spend days with them to get anything marginally resolved. Yesterday early morning I was on the chat with them inquiring on why this month's bill suddenly went up $20. In the middle of "one moment sir while I take a look...", the internet went dead for two days (back only an hour ago). The person apparently instead of focusing on what she was doing screw up my service causing the outage as she was trying to sell me DirectTV and other crap like @ease etc. I don't know how to have been clearer that I just want my dry-line DSL at the price that it is worth. They want to charge me $60/month for 3 Mbps (are they a**sholes?). Being at the edge of a rural area, these idiots are the only option I have at the moment but if this keeps up and now with this added $6/month just slapped in there I may just jump to a wireless broadband and hope for the best. I really hate this Centurylink. Even all these service techs around here hate them. Go figure.

Question about hardware for CenturyLink fiber service in MN
Hello all!
A few months ago I had CenturyLink fiber optic service installed at my house in Saint Paul, Minnesota. We're pretty pleased with it so far. But there's something I want to do and I don't have enough know-how to figure out if it's possible and what to buy to make it work.
So here's the setup. The fiber line comes into the house in a downstairs room. There it goes into... I don't know what to call it. Is it the ONT? It's the black box with the brand name Calix on it. Someone help me out there. Then an Ethernet cord comes out of that and goes to the wireless router (Zyxel C1100Z). The Ethernet to the router got strung around the outside of the house and into the upstairs living room with the initial install.
Now I am turning the downstairs room (where the ONT is) into my home office and I want a wired connection. And I'd rather not run the Ethernet all the way back down there since the ONT is right there. Can I add a second router to the ONT? I see there are more ports on it. It doesn't even need to be wireless. If so, how do I do that? What should I buy?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Moving to Maricopa AZ
So it looks like 2 ISP's exist a cable Orbitel Communications via cable and Centrylink. Some places at 40mbps and some at 60 mbps.
Anyone care to give quality to CL in those areas? whats the quality/specs on the lines and do you get good sync rates?
also if you have how was Orbitel Communications? Likely I will try both as my router has auto fail over and I will test both out for awhile.
I do work from home..... So i need it to be up reliably and Do not mind if I have to get 2 ISP's to do so but I wanted opinions, stats etc.
And I may be moving to Maricopa AZ as I would be buying my first house and will need to start looking. Really good prices for sizes of homes there IMO compared to California

[Qwest] C1000A IPv6 in Bridge Mode
I would like to enable IPv6 with my CenturyLink DSL service. I have a C1000A that is in bridge mode for IPv4 and my PfSense box provides the PPP authentication. When I try to enable IPv6 in the WAN settings of the modem the enable box is greyed out. My assumption is that because my modem is in bridgemode it is disabled? Anyone else have this issue?

[Prism TV] Can I turn off the C2100T router and use Orbi for wireless router?
I have the Technicolor C2100T modem/router. It doesn't reach down to my basement at all. I'd like to see if I can turn off the modem and attach an Orbi router (pseudo mesh type) to broadcast in my house. Does this work for Prism as well as internet? I am in Seattle and my service uses IPoE.
