Eligible for CAF II ? Prepare to get screwed anyway

I sent in a comment/question to the FCC asking about the federal Connect America Fund Phase 2 funding, and us being stuck on 1.5 megabit DSL maximum. I asked whether our remote DSLAM that is 10 miles from the CO will be upgraded to fiber, since we are "in the green" to get the CAF II supported upgrade. Turns out CenturyLink is refusing to upgrade us. Let's hear it for those f*****s at CenturyLink! , [att=1] -- CenturyLink remote pedestal: RUBY, 10 miles west of Gilman, WI http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r20533172-Rural-Century-Telephone-remote-terminal-unit http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r20530745-Name-of-this-polemount-outdoor-telco-canister

[Qwest] Bonded pair 20/20 VDSL2 service possible?

$

I've not been able to get an answer from CenturyLink tech support or sales--and the roaming techs seem to be in the dark about this as well. Currently, I'm signed up for the maximum VDSL2 20Mbps speed. I have a Technicolor C2000T modem, which has the capability of using bonded pair, which would get me close to 40Mbps service. No one seems to know what this is or if it's possible. Is there some sort of magic incantation that I need to use to get this service?

Quick quesion. I have a Gigabit residental GPON connection through centurylink. I want take a domain that I own, and move the servers in my own home and host via my gigabit connection using DDNS to keep up with the IP changes. Would this be against century links TOS and does CL block certan ports on the residental side for email and port 80 for web hosting?

trying to get faster internet service.

ok, I am currently provisioned at 3Mbs on dsl. Centurylink has set up fttn in my area and is advertising for faster speeds. Talked to the local tech and was told that the node that I am serviced by is active and that he is hooking up people to it. I call in to ask about upgrades and I am told that I am at the highest speed available, and say that the tech couldn't be hooking up people to the node. who can I talk to find out the correct info and what I need to do to get hooked up to the fttn node and get a faster internet connection?

Slow evening speeds

I'm paying for a 10mbps service and normally get 8mbps at the most now I'm getting at night around 5:30 4 to 5mbps consistently now for several days. A tech came out and said he seen nothing to fix that I was getting 10.623 at the NID he checked lines in house all looked fine. Is this even acceptable? I want to go to Vdsl and 20mbps but want this issue fixed first, Im using a ZyXel C1100z router/modem. The router says connected at 10.623/0.892 mbps every time I observe the speed in the router it appears to be static. Any Help Thanks Dennis

Help setting up Century Link Business Fiber

We just upgraded to fiber at my work. We are a very small non-profit with meager needs. Someone selected a 20Mbps package for us and the tech installed it last week. They provided a adtran netvanta 5660. We have internet service only and the tech left cat5e hanging from gig2 port of the netvanta which I am under the impression is ready for us to connect our router/gateway to. I am new to fiber and as said our needs are simple. I just want to connect a SOHO router and get a few computers online. The tech left a bundle of papers that may as well be written in greek because there is no organization to the information and there are tons of internal codes and abbreviations all over it. What I was really hoping for was a quick start guide. What settings do I need to configure to set up the wan for my router? We have a /29 LAN Block IP. For all intents and purposes I would just like to get this set up similar to a small and simple home installation. I have reached out to CenturyLink tech support but they have been extremely unhelpful and transferred me to 20 difference places before opening an online help ticket which I am unable to access (because tech did not leave me required account number to set up account on their website).

Not sure if anyone has or can get any information on this? I see they are running some fiber just a 1/2 mile down the road, hoping they will setup a HUB near so I can upgrade past the 1.5mbps.

How can Centurylink be so bad and still be in business?

I just had to get this off my chest,so please excuse the rant! This is the absolute worst incompetent company i have ever dealt with in my life. How i mean how! do they stay is business??? I have had Centurylink phone/dsl for at least 4-5 years.. I can say the only time DSL has ever worked to potential was the first 6 months i had it but it has been downhill ever since- I pay for a lousy 1.5Mbps and they cant even maintain that! Since the first 6 months i had it,i have literally had to call every 2 weeks to 1 month for the same problems. The line ALWAYS tests good,so they claim, and its not the physical old copper either. Its always some server issue on their end and every single time they make me disconnect everything, reset the modem,etc... and it has never once been a problem on my end. Sometimes after i get off the phone its magically working again, and i may get at least 1Mbps,but it never ever lasts long.As i sit here and type this the latest speedof.me test is showing 235ms ping with 70Kbps,sometimes the next test shows 2350ms ping and it wont finish the speed test. I am in the country, I am in a bandwidth exhaust area, but i dont expect perfect dsl, especially in prime time, i am realistic! but all i ask for is a lousy 1Mbps at least. I mine as well go to dialup, its cheaper and not much slower! To all the other poor bastards out there that have no options but to use Centurylink and have spent half their life on their tech help or putting up with substandard service, i feel your pain. The last person i talked with tonight was actually an American,or spoke english well enough to fool me. 24% packet loss on their end.. Be nice if they upgraded that old 286 server or whatever it is,or at least get someone in there to maintain it who has a clue. Sigh.. Oh and they have credited me some cost back for poor service on the last 2 bills, but i noticed the lastest bill jumped to $190! wtf. Mike

[CenturyTel] C2000t - Upgrade path to mesh?

I have a C2000t (modem & router) which has served us well until recently. Changes to our home have created some wifi weak/dead spots. I considered various extender technologies - but would really like to move to a mesh network. (We have this already with Sonos, and I really like the way it just WORKS. :-) CenturyLink reps have provided conflicting advice about whether I can just add a mesh router to the C2000t, and about how to do so. I am considering replacing with C2000t with a dedicated modem and mesh router - looking at the eero solutions. I would be grateful for any advice or guidance in this matter. I am on copper. No fiber available yet...but I will move to that when it becomes available.

Fiber expansion Vale, NC?

I spoke with a Centurylink Tech and he said that they were going to be installing fiber to our area in the next 4 - 6 months. He claimed that they had already applied for the permits to bury the fiber and they had the fiber waiting in their yard. My question is, is there a way to confirm the permits had actually been filed? I was told 2 years ago that we were going to upgraded within 6 months but this tech provided more detail than the last. I live in Vale NC in Catawba county. Old Shelby / Jacob Fork River rd area. Thanks for any help!

Centurylink Internet keeps turning off

My internet keeps turning off 10 to 15 times a day I have checked the wires they seem fine the nid is from the late 80s will century link replace it? I'm suppose to get 6 mbps some times it connects at 800 kbps. I have a lot of crc errors sometimes 30,000, estimated Loop length 11,000 feet, snr starts at 11 and then goes down to 3 sometimes it says -5. I had centurylink 3 years ago and it did the same thing it's doing now. So the only thing I can think of that might be the problem is my old nid, sorry for the long post.

CenturyLink internet run around

We first ordered our internet account in December 2016 for a 40 meg connection for 34.95 a month. We select the self-install option and to own the Centurylink modem for $99. We install the modem and get 10 megs. We call on the install date to tell them that the connection is incorrect and that we request it is fixed to the correct speed. They tell us that the 28th it will be fixed and then we still have 10-12 megs. The 9th of January is when the next tech is scheduled and never shows and I called on the 13th and complain that it is not fixed and then the 14th the supervisor comes and gives us 15-17 megs. So the next date for the next tech to visit is the 23rd no later than 7 PM. We will see how this works out. I will post an update if the same BS happens hopefully not. I will contact the Corporate office if this isn't resolved. I'm kinda sick of the slow speeds I have had 30 megs for the last 2 years with cable. Wish me luck!

CenturyLink 1GiG Fiber with ASUS RT-AC3200 Speeds and Settings

Got a ASUS RT-AC3200 working with my 1Gig CenturyLink Fiber + Prism TV. However, during some speed tests the most I can get lately seems to be about 200mb down 200mb up. At one point I was able to get 800MB down and up on this router when I was first setting it up. I did find that turning off QoS raised my speed from 120mb to 200mb, but couldn't really find any other settings that'd help me get close to the 1GiG. The only settinsg I can think of that I'd changed since the speed drop was: Putting the LAN > IPTV > Enable multicast routing (IGMP Proxy) and Enable efficient multicast forwarding (IGMP Snooping) to Enabled. This was required for the Prism TV to work. Setting IPv6 > Connection Type > Tunnel 6rd Now per this thread: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r30169814-CenturyLink-1-Gigabit-speed-cut-in-half-using-my-own-Asus-Router It looks like Merlin Firmware might be the way to go? But out at http://www.lostrealm.ca/tower/node/79 I don't see the RT-AC3200 supported. The IGMP and IPv6 settings shouldn't be impacting my speed should they?

Prism/Gigabit Fiber Router Reliability

$

So as soon as I can talk to someone at Centurylink and get it all figured out I'll be switching from Comcast triple play to Centurylink Prism TV and Gigabit fiber. My question is how reliable is the modem/router they supply? Is it Dual-Band or Tri-Band wifi? How secure is it? Do they keep it updated regularly to address new exploits? The router I'm currently using is the ASUS RT-AC3200 and it is absolutely rock solid wired and wireless and highly secure with regular updates. I never lose internet on either wired or wireless, unless of course there's an issue on Comcast's end or with their modem (which I have in bridge mode.) Do they offer different options for routers? If so what are the benefits/drawbacks to each model? Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Does gigabit fiber have a data cap? If not a hard cap do they have a soft cap in which they slow you down after a certain amount of usage?

Prism and Roku channels

I have Prism TV bundled with home phone. Have had the service for 4(?) years now and have been happy with selections, price and quality/performance of Prism. My troubles began when I added a Roku stick for both tv's. My wife decided she would like the HGTV channel on her Roku. Seems even though I am qualified to enable because I am a Prism customer I cannot because I am not a Centurylink internet customer and have no email address with them. After 3 days of head scratching and a lecture on IPTV from a rep., the conclusion was basically you can't get there from here. Is that the case with all the other tv providers? Even though you are paying for that service you can't have it w/o internet with the same provider!

Gigabit Speeds During Peak Times - Crystal, MN

So I've been doing some googling about centurylink's gigabit fiber before switching from Comcast and I've been dismayed to find out that many people have problems streaming Netflix during peak times. I'm wondering if anyone near Crystal, MN has any anecdotal evidence to the quality of Netflix streaming in the area. Streaming anything is never an issue with my 200mbps Comcast connection, even during peak times. My main desire to switch to centurylink is for lower prices and for prism tv, because comcast's bit starved blocky video is awful, like a bad, low resolution YouTube video.
