One of four lines dropping speed over 24 hour period

Hey guys (and gals)... long time, no talk. Not sure if anyone remembers me going to bonded DSL a few years back, but other than the past few months, it's been perfect. Very, very few problems, each pair is (10/1)*2, through a load-balancer, for a total of 40/4 for most connections (multipacket-aware). A few months ago, I noticed lagginess on anything streaming. When I logged into each modem, the 1st line on the 2nd modem had dropped from 10mbs down to 3-4mbs. I rebooted it and it went back to 10. Since that day, that one line has been dropping to 3-4mbs every day, typically within a 24 hour period. I finally got sick of it and called CTL. They sent a technician out, who said he didn't see any problems (I wasn't home) and left a C2100T to replace the 1 of 2 C2000As I have. I got home later that night, listened to his voicemail, and set up the new modem. It didn't help. So I called again, a few days ago, and the guy who originally set me up came out, vs the younger guy who wasn't familiar with my setup. He's been awesome, but he's been skeptical of the viability connection from day 1, despite it running for over 2 years without any major issues. He says my loop length is just too long. Of course, I came back with "Why has it worked for 2 years without issue?". He said he would keep an eye on it over the next few days. I saw him a few days later in the neighborhood. Turns out the night I talked to him on the phone, he "bounced the port" (that is the actual term shown on his DSLAM mgmt GUI). After that, the lines were fine for about 5 days... something that hadn't happened in the past few months, as I've needed to reboot once a day. He said I could call him and he'd bounce it again. If it kept up, he'd replace the port. My question is, can ports in the DSLAM just go bad, or could it be something else? I've gone over my lines in the house, and I'm pretty certain there are no issues on my end. I've yet to be able get ahold of him since seeing him at the DSLAM, so this may simply be conjecture, but I'm curious. Additionally, I'm seeing some disparate readings in the two different modems in regards to loop length. I believe he's told me I'm at around 5000ft. The weirdness is the two lines on the first modem say 4910 and 5080 for the "estimated loop length", while the same stat on the 2nd modem (same physical distance) say 9456 and 9096. If it were only a few percent off, I'd chalk it up to a margin-of-error, but the 2nd modem actually shows nearly TWICE the loop length. How is that possible? Also, when I first set this whole thing up, I ran the following commands, which as I understand, raise the tolerance threshold of the modem... though I'm not 100% sure how that works, being as though the ASSIA software seems to be the culprit in regards to my speed dropping. Here are some stats from my lines, a few minutes after a fresh reboot of the 2nd modem: **EDIT** There are a ton of stats for four lines... I'll put then in the following posts

Any prospects for speed upgrades?

Hi all, central PA customer here... I've had Centurylink now for about 6 years, and have gone from 10mb up to 25mb. I kinda have a standing order with the local techs to let me know as soon as faster speed is available, but it's been about 4 years since they bumped me up to 25mb. I don't doubt they don't have any faster speed they could offer me right now, but I have a couple questions about the whole setup. First, I have a Netgear D7000 DSL modem/router combo, and it works great. Is there any way I can get specific info about how far I am from the cabinet, or exactly what type of DSL or whatever I have? I'm hoping that'll give me an idea of what to ask about, if/when I call customer service. (For instance, if I know I'm 2.4 miles from the cabinet, and I have super-fast DSL, if I do some research and find that super-special-extra-fast DSL comes out and works at up to 3 miles, I'll know to ask about super-special-extra-fast DSL instead of "can I get faster interwebs?"). Second, and I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know of any upgrades coming to the central PA area that I could take advantage of? The download speed is fine, but only having 2mb up is killing me. I work from home a lot (or work at work, but on my home PC), and my upload speed is severely limiting my ability to get things done in a timely manner.

New Service Question.

I am building a new home my property has 2 different easements where Century Link wires could serve my home. Option 1 was installed when the lots were subdivided the same cable runs half a mile down the highway then splits to serve the subdivision. So that cable is a mile longer the neighbor connected to it reports slow service 100K “almost dialup” This service has a underground pedestal installed. Option 2 is serving a small street with 4 residents. It may be on the poles. One of them reports 4 meg service. How do I convince Century Link to provide service option 2? I fear that if I give them my address they will be stuck with option 1. The house will be near Marthasville, MO 63357. Walta

If these keeps just one person away its worth it. I hate centurylink. Please refer to the attachment of my phone log for correcting a billing error. charged me 4x the amount for internet 3 months in a row. Each month I called to make sure my promotion discount was valid - each month they confirmed it was. each month they bill me $120 for a $30 internet plan. When I called for a refund I was on hold and disconnected for over 5 hours, I finally got them to agree to refund me which will process sometime 2+ months from in december.... how is this legal? this internet company shouldnt exist.

60mbps + bonded or single

Does anyone know if the 60+ speeds are bonded or single lines. When I was paying for 40 (got 50) I was on a single line. My address qualifies for 60, but I am not sure if it is bonded or single. I also got a postcard like ad from centurylink that 100 mbps will soon be available in the area. I am pretty close to the DSLAM if I can get 60 already.

I have a PK5001Z I can get a barely used Action Tec C1000A for $15 is it better than the PK, I see people here say the PK is no good but I've never had a problem with it. Will probably get the C1000 just as spare but may use it and have the PK as spare if the 1000 would work better.

[CenturyTel] Centurylink Fiber+ Service -- FUSF fees on internet service?

I run a small business and signed up for Centurylink's Fiber+ service offered at my office building (since the fiber was already there). After over 2 months of waiting I finally got it last year. The service provides: 1. 500 Megabit Internet connection via ethernet connection 2. One VOIP line Charge is $496.00 I was told to expect about $15.00 a month in taxes and fees (like State 911 charge, etc). Also I was told that there were no Federal Universal Service Fund (USF) charges for the internet portion (or data use) except for the VOIP line (which uses practically no data). Instead I am being charged $65.34 in "Other Fees." Most of it is under the "Federal Universal Service Fun" -- a whopping $53.58. We only use the VOIP line about 3-5 hours a week as it disconnects often. After almost 2 weeks of no explanation from a variety of people -- they have become silent -- except for that they are going to consult legal and a FUSF "specialist' regarding the matter. Anyone else in the same boat? Check your bills. From what I understand FUSF fees (at 17.9% right now) should only be on telephone services (including VOIP) -- not internet services.

Zyxel C1100Z bridge mode- is there any advantage?

I'm going out to get a new Asus wireless router and I'm curious about using it with the CL supplied Zyxel modem\router. Specifically, is there an advantage to putting the Zyxel in bridge mode and connecting to the new router vs just disabling wireless and dhcp and letting the Asus handle that? My primary reasons for the new router are possible stability issues with the Zyxel- it seems I have to reset it at least weekly to keep streaming services going at full speed. Also, I want to use a vpn at the router level to cover all my devices. I'm not doing anything else as far as advanced networking. Thanks for any advice.

[CenturyTel] What to expect for installation? 40/5 Bonded

Hi all I am signing up for CenturyLink internet this week. I am currently getting Suddenlink cable internet but the price has gone way to out of control. I talked with CL and they said I can get 40/5 internet for $33.94 a month w/o modem rental or $43.99 w/ modem rental. This is for a 12M contract but they said I get a 30 Day free trial. They said since I am going to receive the 40/5 speeds it requires that I have a CL technician come to my home for the installation which cost me $59.99. They told me if I went with the 20/1 internet I would do a self installation. I assume for the 40/5 internet a tech has to upgrade the 4-wire phone wire in my house to CAT5 I assume and maybe upgrade the box old Quest box on the back of my house? I did stop a local CL tech down the street and he did confirm with me that if I sign up for the 40/5 that my installation will be a BONDED system. The sales rep on the phone said they recommend a modem/router called a Technicolor C2100T. So for now I am going to lease a modem and the phone rep said they will leave a note on my installation ticket for the installation tech to bring the C2100T modem/router. Lastly the old Quest box is on the side of my house near my Driveway. Do you'll think they'll be willing to move the Quest box to the back of my house with all my other cable stuff? I just hate having all that wiring on the side of my house. Is the C2100T a good modem for the 40/5 bonded system or should I ask for a different modem? Thanks for any information!

Guy comes around the subdivision the beginning of August offering 40 mb fiber optic from Centurylink. While signing up, the salesman is on the phone with Centurylink and tells me due to capacity issues it wn't be available until Sept 8th. Ok, I can wait. On the 6th a modem arrives and I hook it up. 12mb and dsl, which the router reports is a bad connection. I call them, I was told I signed up 12mb dsl. I cancelled. Once they send me to the cancellation 9talk em out of cancelling and sell more services guy) I am offered 40 mb for less than the $44 I was being billed for 12 mb. One again he denied I was sold fiber. I offered to email him my paperwork. I still say cancel, then he offers me cell phone serices, direct tv or prism.

Speed availability

Hello all, I live in Highlands County, FL. I am looking to purchase a lot to build on, and have been doing an intense amount of research on internet access availability. Turns out, the particular lot that i am interested in is about ~0.2 miles from a fiber fed DSLAM. Using CL's residential website, it claims up to 40MBPS is available. Even if i check an address that is directly across the street from the DSLAM/switch, 40MBPS. However, using the small business website, the address across the street from the DSLAM is offered 100MBPS service, and the lot i am interested in is offered 80MBPS service. What site should be more accurate? If the SB options are, will it be required for me to establish a business account for 80MBPS service or could i fight for it on a residential account? Thanks all..

Centurylink FUSF Fraud on Internet + VoIP Bundles

Here's the story: I run a small business and signed up for Centurylink's Fiber+ service offered at my office building (since the fiber was already there). After over 2 months of waiting I finally got it installed last year in December. My Fiber+ service provides: 1. 500 Megabit Internet connection delivered to my office via ethernet connection 2. One VoIP line Monthly Charge is $496.00 In a nice chart emailed to me by the salesman, it showed speeds from 200Mbps to 1Gbps -- all including one VoIP line and estimated taxes of $15.00. Also I was told that there were NO Federal Universal Service Fund (USF) fees for the internet portion (or data use) except for the VoIP line (which uses practically no data). Well after the free 3 months provided, I got a bill for $562 -- which means I am being charged $65.34 in "Other Fees." Most of it is under the "Federal Universal Service Fund" column -- which is a whopping $53.58. They value the VoIP line at $25.00 -- but my FUSF fees are twice as much! We rarely use the line anyway - because it is unreliable. Now -- going on almost 45 days -- passed around to Regional Sales Managers to Legal Counsel to Billing Specialist to Regulatory Specialist (at least 12 different people) -- they finally came to a conclusion. I've attached a copy of the email. Look at their explanation of the charge and how they plan to correct my particular account (although nothing has been done as of this post). I view this explanation as "business as usual" and that it was not a mistake. If you have business internet with Centurylink bundled with a POTS or VoIP line -- you are probably being charged at least a 10% fee in the name of the Federal Universal Service Fund (FUSF) -- which is fraud. My case was originally being handled by Oregon PUC -- but they decided to send it to the OR Dept of Justice Fraud Division. Please contact me if you are in the same boat. Take a look at your bills -- and see how much money you are owed.

Hello Folks A quick Bio, I'm the caretaker and big brother to a quadriplegic sister born with Cerebral Palsy. We've just about run out of our savings and it's time to figure something out for income. Not that I haven't been trying. I recently discovered a legitimate work from home opportunity that would fit the bill since I am unable to leave the house without her to find or maintain employment. I mention this to hopefully spark as convoluted a solution from your expertise as necessary to reach our goal. What I need is reliable 10mbps download and 5mbps up, no satellite, no wireless, and I do need to be connected to modem or router with Ethernet cable. Employers words. CenturyLink came out to our home and the guy was great, I think he went through every box on our street trying to get us up and running. He said we are 9000' and he just could not get the link. From what I understand, my neighbor is 1500' closer to the CO/RT and does have 12mbps DSL. We are both on a road at the edge of town, the only cable in or out of the area are 2 buried phone cables that run past her home, on to mine and ends a few miles up the road. I currently have WISP service but as I said, that's not acceptable to the employer. No cable TV available in the area either. What can I do? Is there a way CenturyLink can help, or adapt something? Can I get DSL service at the neighbor and extend it by making my own DSL loop on a dry pair 1500' to our home? Unrelated to CenturyLink, could I create an ISP in the house and use my WISP as backbone, invisible to the employer(far fetched)? Any thoughts? Thanks for your time.

Im most likely not going to bridge it. I am looking at the c1100z and c2000t mostly. I need a good wifi for video streaming and good wired ports for xbox(video streaming and online gaming). Any input on the 2 i mentioned or any other suggestions. Also is there a way to check if my connection is single line or pair bonded without calling support.

[CenturyTel] Internet has been really slow for a few days now...

Starting this past Thursday night / Friday morning, I noticed some sites loading rather slow. I was unable to stream anything from YouTube, Twitch, etc. It wasn't consistent, but would come and go. Over the weekend it did not improve, and I assumed there may be an issue that would be corrected once they figured it out, and waited to see. This morning (Monday) it was no better, but but around 4pm everything seemed normal again. I guessed there was an issue that just got fixed today, and was happy to have a good working internet connection again. So for the past couple of hours I've been watching streams on Twitch without issue, not a single hiccup as usual. Then all of a sudden, back to this again... lol Any ideas on what's going on? If it matters, I'm in central Louisiana, and have 6Mbps down and 500Kbps upload. We were recently upgraded to this after being on 1.5/256 for years until they upgraded this area a couple of months ago. We have had no real issues until now. Just hoping it's something that gets fixed soon! I don't want to go back to barely usable internet like we had for literally years, and kept hearing the "bandwidth exhaust area" excuses. If it goes back to that I'll jump ship. CL is our only option for service here, but if it's just false hope, I'd rather not pay for it... ;)

Data Cap Questions

First I just spent a lot of time on the phone and chat with CL and got no answers. 1. Does my data usage reset the same day as my billing cycle? (This would make the most sense) or on a certain day of the month? 2. Does the CL website have a way for me to check my usage?

Connection Speed DSL1 on Bonded Modem Fluctuating + Errors galore

For August/September I've been happy with my Bonded connection. But arriving home last night I noticed the internet was down. Power Cyceled the Modelm. Connection Speed as reported on the C2000T was at DSL1: 1700/600 DSL2: 5500/600 Both connections are usually at 5500/600. Chatted with CL. Then rebooted again. DSL1: 3400/600 DSL2: 5500/600 Accepted it for the time being since their Online Chat doesn't resume upon power cycling... Today arrived home and noticed slow again.
