[Qwest] Line repeatedly retraining. what modem keeps a good log?

I've been losing connection every couple of hours for the last few days. For the many years I had Qwest, the DSL connectivity was usually quite solid. We had a heavy shower a few days ago before I started having issues. At the height of the problem, the downstream SNR dipped down to 3dB and I was getting a different reading every time I hit refresh. When I had a tech over(first time ever to have to get one to come over!) earlier today, he mentioned he was getting questionable measurements at curb but read fine at my DEMARC. He and support insists that the problem is due to my modem's age. Personally I don't see a point in getting a new modem, because, I'm pretty far from DSLAM (~1.5 miles) and higher speeds are not available. I swapped it out with a spare modem shortly after the tech left and I was getting a SNR that was jumping around everywhere. Right now, it has stabilized to about 14dB down. Although, I'd like to get a new modem that keeps a time stamped MDC log so I can see if there's a correlation with the weather. I feel like it has to do with water seeping into the old cable. This is my reading right now: VPI: 0 VCI: 32 Broadband Negotiated Mode: G.DMT Annex A Connection Status: CONNECTED Speed (down/up): 7168 Kbps/896 Kbps Number of Retrains: 0 Number of Retrains Elapsed Time: 0H: 00M: 00S SNR Margin (Downstream/Upstream): 14.0 dB/13.0 dB Attenuation (Downstream/Upstream): 34.3 dB/21.0 dB
