Very slow DSL

Visiting my parent and noticed something wrong with their DSL, they told me it was acting odd, but I live in another state and "odd" doesn't tell me much, when I got to their place, and connected to wifi with my laptop it right off said "limited connectivity", so I did some tests, noticed long ping times, 150-350ms, and max DL speeds of a whopping 35KB/s, this is on a 1.5 connection (best they offer out where they live). but 35KB is a joke, so if anyone can give some help with what might be wrong, it has been a while since I have messed with DSL lines. House has a home run that I installed, it is a dry line and connecting to the NID shows the same signal. Let me know what else you might need. [att=1] [att=2]

I really have no ability to get any issues solved with them. The local office has been closed down and there isn't another high speed provider in my rural area. I just want to say, over and over again, how much centurytel sucks.

Hey everyone. I have century link internet at my house, and the internet goes out ALOT. Sometimes, its just every 10 minutes or so, but sometimes its every 3 seconds. Its been doing this for almost 2 months now. We have called many times, and they have replaced out modem already. It still goes out every 3 seconds or so. It's very annoying. I cant get on my computer and others cannot, too at times. Is there anything here that can be fixed?

Speed Issue with Q1000Z

Getting under 30 upstream and under 5 upstream. I am in contact with them and they show me a chart saying everything is at my 40M account speeds. My speed tests differ from that conclusion. I have a PC testing directly with a reliable CAT5 cable and I'm using a Q1000Z modem with default settings. Note: My brother is also using the line via a USB WiFi reciever. Could this be why it's half of what we use? Any help would be great!

[CenturyTel] Been happy for years but now? Columbia, MO

Unbelievable. This started last week when suddenly my IP changed to a Embarq IP according to WHOIS. Now it seems like I am back in the 56k dial up days. Internet is worthless with such slow speeds. Also any of my sites I visit that use location services think I am in Winter Park, FL which is a few miles away from Columbia, MO. My Prism TV is sucking too, locks up, channel changes freeze, etc. My Prism apps that I use on a iPad and Nexus don't work, they indicate I am not at my house! I chatted with a Centurylink rep last night explaining all of the above to see if they could give me my old IP back that I have had for over 4 years or at least fix it to where it is not assumed I am in FL. Oh, no you can go to your office and pay extra for a static IP - WTF! Wrong answer, I already pay more than enough. Then he suggested I uninstall my Prism Apps and reinstall and that might fix the issue. No, not going to do that on 4 devices mainly because I shouldn't have too. Then all of a sudden I was disconnect from the chat session. I wasn't mean or anything, I just disagreed with the suggestions I was receiving. I did figure that maybe if I logged off of the Prism app on one of the iPads and logged back on maybe that would fix it and it did. I was now at my home but the connection sucks so much I can get audio only. Lets just say I am frustrated. I haven't had any issues prior that weren't taken care of in a timely professional manner with Centurylink but that chat session has left be a bit bitter. Check this out. [att=1] Sorry about the rant.

[CenturyTel] Horrific Service Century Link Port Charlotte Florida

I am constantly dealing with dropped connections. Some days are worse than others. Today I have experienced 16 drops in one hour! I have to power off the router in order to get it back online. I work online and HAVE to be connected at all times. If my connection goes off I can check the weather and there will be rain in the surrounding areas every time. This is south Florida it rains a lot. The techs on the phone are completely clueless. Techs who have come out have no idea either. If it keeps this up another day, I am going to switch to crapcast business so at least there is guaranteed up time. So disappointed with this service and I pay a lot for it. I only have internet through Century Link.

guest network questions

So I would really like to create a guest network that will give my kids friends access to the internet but NOTHING else - ie, not the printer, and especially not data on my NAS or any of our home PC's. I know this is possible w/some routers, like Netgear, but I got the C1000A to be fully compatible w/centurylink. I see I can have multiple SSID's which I assume I can use to create a guest network, but is there any way to prevent this from having access to everything on my entire network? Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated!

CL 1gb fiber to the Twin Cities?

I just received a CL postcard in the mail inviting me to a meeting to discuss taking part in a free trial for a "new" technology to bring me 1gb fiber to my home. Since I'm currently doing 12mb, you'd better believe I'm attending. The kicker will be how much it costs after the trial.

[Qwest] Problems with gaming HELP

I have a 12 mbps download and .89 mbps Upload dsl internet connection from Century link and I am having A HORRIBLE TIME while gaming. I am lagging behind everyone else by nearly a second and this is a huge problem in FPS shooters.... This problem started at the beginning of 2014 and it has persisted ever since. I have tried every solution in the book, port forwarding, dmz hosting, ethernet, improving the integrity of my network, playing at different times of the day on different games on different servers and nothing helps. In fact I think I made my connection worse through portfoward.com. I put all kinds of commands into the cmd which were supposed to "fix" my connection and now its even worse. Is there any way I can reset all the network settings on my entire network? I have tried resetting the modem and restoring it to factory defaults. Is there a good program for windows vista to fix my internet settings? All help greatly appreciated help me fix this lag!!!! It is driving me absolutely out of my mind this stuff is too complex maybe I need to upgrade my speed but I thought 12 mpbs was enough for gaming. PLEASE HELP ME all of your info is valuable!!

Crackly static on phone line and slow internet speed

$

I had originally signed up with Centurylink for just DSL and was getting reasonable internet speed. I then bundled a phone service with them and ever since, my phone line has been very static-y and the internet speed seems to have dropped significantly. I'm supposed to be getting up to 10 meg download speed but internet speed tests never show that I get more than 1 meg or so. I have a DSL filter on a separate phone line but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Tried using two different phones to see if there was any difference but the static is still there. Plugging the phone directly into the phone jack in the modem also still gives me static. They've tried fixing it three times already, but after a short period the static always comes back. Is it safe to assume that the static is probably causing the slow internet speed?

[Embarq] Service Exhaust is SERVICE FAILURE

$

I had no complaints about Centurylink services until 2.5 years ago when I went to transfer my DSL service and add land line service since I have weak cell signal at my new house. When I went to transfer my service is when all the trouble began. I was and still continue to be lied to about availability. I'm not stupid. I worked for Verizon for 3 years. My entire town runs on one service hub and has experienced no population increase or new home construction to account for a "SERVICE EXHAUST" Even at that, a service exhaust is a service failure. My house had a DSL line active up until the day I moved into it. If it was feasible to provide DSL before the merge with Qwest, then its feasible now. I hate being lied to and attempts to market services not physically provided by Centurylink do not solve the problem at hand. It's just a common tactic to evade the problem at hand. Service Exhaust is SERVICE FAILURE. 2+ years is inexcusable.

[Qwest] Anyone have ipv6 problems after upgrade to 60/30 or any bonded?

$

I got upgraded to 60/30 bonded (Golden CO) last week and while ipv4 has been rock solid at about 57/27, ipv6 is pretty flakey. The modem is a C2000T in routed mode (static ipv4 ips) and I'm using the same 6rd delegated prefix I was using before with the C1000A. I can always pass small packets but trying to transfer anything meaningful usually results in a stall and bringing the MTUs down doesn't seem to help at all. Any other ideas? As a side question... What happens if you put the C2000 in bridged mode? Does the modem still handle the bonding or do I have to do a ml-pppoe session from my router? thanks.

New PK5001A modem/router and camera won't connect to PC

I recently had trouble with DSL dropping out, so CL sent me a PK5001A modem/WLAN device to replace the simple modem I used to use with my own WLAN device (Linksys). Everything works fine (ethernet PC, wireless laptops) but my Samsung camera can no longer find my PC with the software to upload pictures over the WLAN. The camera seems to find the wireless network and connect using the LAN password just fine, but after a few seconds it says it can't find the PC with the necessary upload program. The PC is the only thing connected to the Ethernet ports on the PK5001A. BTW, I also can't set up a home network using Windows 7 Pro. I'm guessing it's related. Anybody know what it is about this new modem/WLAN device that would make things go haywire?

Is anyone else pissed off with CL's commercials regarding 1gbps service in your area. Like Minneapolis for say? Well I am. I keep seeing commercials, but nothing to show for it. Why cant reps be educated and be well informed and tell us at least something! I am sick of hearing the same things over and over again. I do though understand, that this is probably going to take some time, but can't you tell your customers what neighborhoods are planned for the rollout. I mean srsly. I can take the wait I just want to know if I'll be included so I can tune out ur commericals and stop annoying your live chat reps.

[Qwest] Ping spiking massively on certain quest hop

$

Hey guys. I'm not directly serviced by CenturyLink (or Quest) but my outgoing connection routes through their servers in order to ping Chicago-based servers. For about a month now I've been experiencing spikes from ~30 to 120+ ping on Chicago servers for seemingly no reason. They last up to 10 minutes and are a huge annoyance and occur along a noticeable drop in speed. I spoke to my ISP about it and they told me that basically it's outside of their network so they can't do anything about it. My experiences with CLink customer services has been...spotty to say the best. Most times they won't even talk to me because I'm not a direct customer (which makes sense I guess) but other times I don't really get anywhere. I was just wondering if there was any way to elevate this issue within CenturyLink, because as of now I'm not really getting anywhere. I can provide tracerts and other things if needed.

Fiber Without a Modem

I have CenturyLink Fiber (up to 1gbps, I currently have 40mbps) in my apartment building. In my apartment a CAT 6 cable comes out of the wall into a Technicolor C2000T modem that I rent from them. Now my understanding is this simply a router, since the actual fiber hookup and modem are in the apartment building's network closet, which would explain CAT 6 wiring into my apartment. I would prefer to use my Netgear WNDR4000 N750 router to handle the actual routing function so I can return the modem to CenturyLink. Is this possible? I would assume just connect as normal, type in the PPPoe login and away I go?

[CenturyTel] Horrible

Where do I begin? I've had this horrible service since 08. I have watched as they give new customers better deals for the same internet I have. I always have to call customer service and tech support to get my internet turned on...I could go on and on. I'll be glad once I finally move from this area and don't get taken advantage of..for more information on the numerous ways I have been shafted in 6+ years just ask...I have a list.

Centurylink vs. p2p

Hi all, I'm new here. Just wondering if it is legal to download stuff through p2p in the States? I'm using centurylink internet service here, but seems unable to download through p2p torrent and software (eg. bit comet)... Am using its C1000A modem. Is there anything I need to set? (if it is legal) Thanks a lot!!
