I was looking for a post where someone had posted that legacy qwest areas would be moved to IPOE in Q2 in 2020 but couldn't find it. Is this still happening and if so has it been delayed because of COVID-19? :hmm:

CL Doing temorary download over-provisioning?
Hey guys. So I was using the net at 3-4 in the morning, like I normally do and noticed my internet went out. Checked on my modem page, and saw that it reconnected. But it was 5mbps faster than I had before. I pay for 20mbps, but I've been over-provisioned to 26mbps for years now. Then it went up to 30. Then the next day same thing, 35. And now it seems to have stabilized at 40mbps. Cool!
I'm wondering if this is a temporary measure for everyone staying at home using the internet more often, or if it something else? At any rate, appreciate it CL!

No option to use your own modem
Out of curiosity I decided to look online at what speeds/deals CL was offering in my area now. One thing I noticed was that the plans did not let you to use your own modem.
There was a link labeled: Why is there no option to use my own modem?
Selecting that brought up the following message:quote:The technology that delivers CenturyLink
internet service to your home requires
the use of our wireless modem.
That sounds strange as if they are using a cellular signal connection instead of copper. I assume the reference to wireless is just them bragging that CL modem/routers provide WiFi service and this is not really a wireless connection to the DSLAM.
Has anyone else heard about CL requiring wireless modems for service? We use a C1000A connected to one computer and have WiFi turned off. That works fine for 10mbps. I'm guessing that the higher speeds need newer modems and CL doesn't want us to try reusing the older ones.

CenturyLink Speed/Ping issue - Video included
I have been a CL customer for 6 years. I have had no issues with service until around Nov/Dec 2019. I have the 10mbps package, best in my area and no cable alternatives. In January they sent a tech out after I spoke with them because they could not ping my modem(c1100z). I also had pk5001z as back up but it still was not helping my speed/ping issues. I might be able to throw a baseball to the DSLAM, well probably not but its close.
Technician came out and replaced modem and recommended i replace my 4 wire with cat5. All throughout speeds were good as far as he could see. About 6 years ago I ran a new 4 wire directly to the interface box outside, but I figured what the hell. I went to the crawl and replaced it with cat5 as per his recommendation.
I was still having intermittent connection issues and called them a few more times. Everything always looks good on their end, they say they'll run a 24hr line test and get back with me (Never has happened). This process always takes over an hour because they have you reset your modem, change wireless channels even though I am on lan cable, reflash firmware, talk to supervisors, account specialists, etc etc.
Monday they said they would send a tech out. He comes out yesterday and says everything looks great. I explain to him that I had 0.24mbps download, high Jitter, and high pings to my first hop. I gave him screenshots. He stated he could only test throughout speed and I Would need to get a hold of support again. I called support after he left and they stated that the only thing they could do would be to send the tech out! He's coming out tomorrow but I know its a wasted trip because he couldn't do anything yesterday. So tomorrow were going to stare at each other for a few minutes while I offer him a coke that I wipe down with Spray Nine™ as I talk to him. He'll politely decline because he wants to live.
When my speeds go to crap, they are between 0.24mbps - 3.5/4mbps and high ping on my first hop. While testing I am directly wired to the modem, wireless turned completely off. I've tried changing dns servers, using ipv6, flashing different firmwares. On the video attached, everything was set back to factory to remove any issues anyone thought I might have created.
The tech also stated that 60mbps was now available in my area and that fiber was ran to the dslam but not to the homes. He gave me a referral to call in on. I called on that yesterday as well. They stated it was service exhausted meaning I would have to call in every couple days and see if anyone has left the service because no slots were available anymore. Still stuck at 10mbps. When he was out last month, he said it would be in our area soon. So in a months time it goes from coming to soon to exhaustion? I live in a rural area... I wonder if my chain is being pulled here. Anyway, take a look at the video and let me know what you think. It happens a few times a day at random times. I call them and everything looks good on their end.
I understand I may have issues during a pandemic, but the issues I am having around 4 months old and prior to that has been fine.

Is there anyone at CL I can send this too? This vid was 3 gig. I started uploading to Youtube last night. I hope I dont need to make any more, but I will if needed.

[CenturyTel] Why was CL down in Denver for 10 hours (or so..)
Just curious if anyone had any info on what happened to kill CL Internet in Denver from about 7 pm last night (05/11) until roughly 11:00 am today (05/12).
T'ain't no biggie now that we're back up again, but in these "Corona Times", Internet access has become almost a 'lifeline' for a lot of folks (and I am certainly among them) but as a retired IT nerd and 'net-junkie', when it died yesterday, I got about 12 calls and WAY too many texts asking "why?"... But without Internet I had no way to find out, and attempting to determine WTF happened on a cellphone is a real effort with no rewareds. So anyone have a clue why virtually all of Denver, all of Boulder, most of the 'burbs' were 'out' (....and I hear it affected a lot of other cities, as well). And of course too many of those that called me immediately went to 'dark' conspiracy theories and "international hacking" (had one guy that was convinced it was most definitely China or Iran...).
My vote was on equipment or infrastructure issues, but what do I know...(?) Just a point of curiosity...

[Qwest] CL Aerial Fiber? 1000 feet from Aerial Drop. Possibilities?
Looking for a CL Tech / Engineer's help here.
My address, states "Advanced Fiber Technology" and yet I have Bonded VDLS2 10/1M. No news here on update/upgrades. So I'm trying to take thing as far as I can so CL might help :)
Overview
Along our road CL has aerial fiber feeding an additional Cabinet up the road by a few miles. I'm roughly 9000' North of the Main Cabinet/DSLAM that has been fiber fed for years. First Picture Below shows current DSLAM/Cabinets etc.
I was first told, I'd never gain access to aerial line. But since then, CL has done aerial drops at each other road intersection within the past 6-12 months. One intersection is roughly 1000' to the south (Second Image ). There's additional equipment here as shown in the photo as well.
In our front yard we have an aerial pole that runs over to the power poles. These power poles are also where the CL aerial fiber is running to the additional cabinet about 3 miles up the road.
I'm in pretty good shape as I have Aerial Poles ready, so no boring is needed which seems to be a barrier and huge cost. What's possible with this setup? Would CL let me connect at the intersection 1000' down the road?
Also, I have had a few correspondences with the Power Company regarding pole attachment if I need to run a fiber line all the way back to Main DSLAM and connect in to CL's network.
Any addition work I should complete to give me the best shot at CL assisting me? I'm not looking to spend 200K by any means, but I don't mind shelling out a money upfront if speed can happen.

[CenturyTel] Century Link refusing to provide a Dual Band modem
I moved into our new home March 27th. I signed up for Century Link service on March 26th I went with the $49 lifetime plan and purshcased for the modem/router. The router showed up on April 3rd, but it did not work, after close to 12 hrs over 3 days on the phone with Century link we finally had service, the Technicolor C1100t was miss configured before it was shipped out.
When I signed up for service I requested a Dual Band WiFi modem, since most all my devices are 5Ghz 802.11ac, they sent me the Technicolor C1100t which is only 2.4Ghz 802.11b/g/n. Since then every week I have called Century Link to try and get the device I paid for. Today they have now sent me the second replacement modem which just like the original and the second replacement is the Technicolor C1100t even though the tech on the phone as told me that I would be getting the Actiontec C3300a.
After the 1st replacement modem was received on May 13th I filed a complaint with the BBB complaint #14356695. I have yet to hear anything from Century Link, other than have the worst customer service that I have ever seen in my life.
Anyone else experience this with Century Link?

Does a VPN work over CL Bonded DSL?
I have a friend working from home (COVID-19) who is complaining about the slow upload speed on her 60/5 VDSL2 connection. She says she qualifies for 100/10 but that requires bonded DSL and a tech install.
I already warned her that she would need a new modem and the issue might not even be the speed of her internet but an over-provisioned VPN server at her employer. That got me to wondering if she would even be able to use a VPN on bonded DSL. Anyone have any experience with that? I have zero experience with bonded DSL.
I don't want her to go through a lot of trouble for nothing. So far she seams most put off by a tech visit. She is in the high risk category being over 60 and diabetic.

Good Line Stats but dropping Internet
Hi All, long time lurker, first time poster. Have really appreciated all the help from this forum over the years.
I have Centurylink here in the Phoenix metro area, pair bonded 40/5 service with the Actiontec C1900A modem. My line stats look good (for 40/5 anyways), no retrains, low fec, etc. Never had any issues in the past 3-4 years since I was upgraded to the bonded service, but for the last several weeks, the internet has gone down every day or so for about a 10-15 minute stretch. It sometimes comes back on its own, or sometimes I get impatient and reboot the modem, and it comes back fine.
The last few days this has happened now several times throughout the day. Each time I login to my modem, the DSL lines show as being fine, but the 'Internet Status' bar shows as being red/disconnected. I reached out to CL tech support about this, and they said my line looks fine, so nothing that a tech could do, and that I just need a new modem.
I am fine buying a new modem, I was just curious if this makes sense that a modem could be failing in this way? My experience with modems has been that they either work or they don't, so just wanted to get some thoughts on this before I buy a new modem.
Is the Technicolor or Zyxel C2100 still the best modems to buy these days? Hoping to find something on eBay...
Thanks in advance!

[CenturyTel] CenturyLink Actiontec C3000A for $26.40 (Delivered)
I've watched eBay for longer than a year, hunting for a suitable CenturyLink Actiontec C3000A backup/replacement. Last week, I ran across a smoking deal, took a chance, and jumped on it. It was advertised as "For parts or not working."
It arrived, this afternoon - no cables, no power supply, no nothing - just the bare unit. I figured, for $26.40, if it was "not working" I'd keep it around "for parts."
I took it out of the shipping box and hooked it up to a spare Netgear power supply, that was laying around. Boom! It fired up. So far, so good.
Next, I saved a copy of my (working) C3000A's config file to a USB stick, and used it to restore/clone the (working) config file to my (eBay) C3000A.
Finally, I powered down my LAN, switched out the C3000A boxes, and powered up. Boom! The backup/replacement is performing perfectly.
I'll attach a couple of snaps to this post; one showing the initial power-up test, and the other showing the eBay C3000A replacing my original C3000A.
Matter of fact, I'm using the "For parts or not working" modem/router, as I type :)

[Qwest] Can someone advise on Line stats.
Hi, So I'm in a Qwest area, south of Phoenix, Zip 85138. For the last few months, on and off, I have had short periods of high pings from 150-350, and as such web browsing comes to a slow down. My connection is VDSL2 and I am on the 40/5 plan. I would appreciate if someone can comment on my line stats in the attachments. I want to call in and see if there is anything they can do, like a profile reset or something. I have a C3000z modem on the latest firmware, I tried a C2100t as well that I had as a spare but the issue remains. Thanks
I also wanted to mention that I used to see my SNR at 9 ish but for some reason it synced now at 6.9 to 7.0.
Also, the c2100t synced at the same levels except for loop length which increased to 3048 feet.

are this good or better stats

On to FTTH (Goodbye CenturyLink)
After having CenturyLink for many many years (since 2005, 15 years) and no other options simy local cable company hadn't built into my area (they were actually worse lol). I went from 1.5/256 up to 10/1 over the years I've finally moved onto bigger and better things. The local power company created a spin off company offering FTTH, the moment it was available I didn't hesitate. They offer residential speeds from 100/100 from 49.95 up to 1,000/1,000 at 79.99, I went with the gigabit tier. I'm extremely happy. I have low ping times and speeds wired no lower than 920/920. They also offer a business tier of up to 10 gbps symmetrical at $1,995. I'm very happy and I'm so glad I finally got to go to a true broadband connection. Thanks for all the memories here it means a lot and this is bitter sweet but I am stoked I can use the internet with no limitations.

Gigabit speed in NE Seattle down to 90 mb
My speeds have been generally stable at 900+ mb/s for over a year, but a couple days ago our speeds now register at about 90 mb/s (ethernet wired connection). Anybody else notice this? Suggestions who to get ahold of at clink to find out what's going on?

[CenturyTel] Central Florida Outage?
Hello,
Does anyone have any insider information on what's going on with the large CenturyLink outage in 32712? They have been down since 6 PM yesterday and the whole town is also having an ATT/Sprint outage which I am assuming they are using CenturyLink for backhaul in the town.

Talktous no longer responding
Hello again,
***Please read first. I have no intentions on upsetting anyone and I really don't enjoy writing this as I have other things to do. This is not meant to allow others to bash centurylink. your problem with centurylink are yours. I have posted this to have public record of progress with issues that can no longer be resolved through the chains given to me as a customer. I would rather do this before involving any service commission that would not be beneficial to anyone.***
The issues we have had over the years have usually been resolved after an email to talktous@centurylink.com (or mostly IHD Escalations people, who now say I have the wrong department). After spending hours on the phone with tech support to check if my modem is plugged in to the wall or resetting all factory defaults and trying this or that setting, I started emailing issues with speed tests logged. That was what now seems to be the good old days.
Since back in late 2014 our connection is at its best 2mbps down(I got excited when we reached 5 down with latency of 113 once), with latency being 200+. Upload speeds seem to be close to the norm at .40-.70. I sent an email to Talktous@centurylink.com on the 13th of July and have had no response.
The last few interactions let me know how much of a miracle it is to have 10Mbps here. I've also been told of the known bottleneck in Basile, La. My normal download speed at 5:30AM is .9*Mbps. Trying to check into work after hours is impossible. A lot of the time I can't load centurylink.com without finding something to do while waiting. Just in case anyone is wondering, yes, I have unplugged everything but my pc to test speeds. I was also born the day before yesterday and not quite yesterday. I now have a fresh OS install on this pc. I also check with my work laptop directly connected while trying not to drive 40 Min. away to the office when the issue could be addressed without leaving my family at 2AM.
This connection used to be fixed promptly when we could work together on it. I wish I could say the same is still true.
So, have you guys just given up? Is my only option to cancel service because this feat of 10Mbps is unobtainable? Why cant someone just tell me this instead of taking my $80 per month?
Is it possible to provide you guys with direct burial cat6 to replace a bad line? A trencher isn't that hard to obtain, so could I provide one and you guys rerun a line? I could also provide access to the easement and get dottie out, get a schedule and take off of work to allow for the pull. Are there some power issues somewhere that we could address with engineered solar backup banks? I'm willing to put up some personal capital in this to help provide what I've been paying for. I would really appreciate some sort of thought. When this connection works correctly it allows me to spend more time at home. Not much more, but enough to find it important.
EDIT*** I updated my profile to reflect that I no longer live in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Currently live in Reeves, Louisiana. Just would like to be as up front as possible.
