Requalifying address for fiber installation

$

I am having a challenging time restarting my fiber installation request with CenturyLink's sales team, how can I proceed? My home address is brand new multi-family construction in Seattle and currently receives direct mail offering CenturyLink's fiber service. On 2/1, I scheduled a fiber install via the website. On 3/2, my first CenturyLink onsite installation attempt occurred; however, my onsite installer left after 5 minutes because there was no power outlet near where the external ONT would be located on the building's exterior. Without any more details other than this request needs to be "escalated" to the engineering team, the installer left and rescheduled the installation for the following Monday, 3/9. On 3/9, a different installer arrived but made the same engineering statement about the ONT power access. Even though there was accessible fiber on the pole, there was no way to have a powered ONT on the exterior (a must for multi-family buildings according to CenturyLink engineering). As I work exclusively from home, I opted to have CenturyLink install DSL service on 3/13. I thought this would quickly bring the internet (it did!), and then I would hire an electrician to wire an external power outlet and reorder fiber installation when the outlet was ready. Now when I attempt to reorder the fiber installation, both the website and phone sales representatives tell me I can ONLY get DSL service. How can I get this discrepancy corrected so a fiber installation can be placed and connected to the newly installed power outlet?

[CenturyTel] Gigabit Slowdown - reboot fixes it

I am constantly getting slow downs with my CenturyLink gig fiber connection. If I reboot it seems to go away temporarily. Also noticing lose of connections in the middle of the night often. PPP down messages and them coming back up sometimes hours later. Running C2100Z with direct ethernet connection to ont and pc. Service is usually no help just wanting me to reboot again. Trying to figure out if its the router or something else.

Question about line speed vs port

I just had 20/1.5 service installed. Figured it was going to be bonded since tech install was required. i have an actiontec c3000a modem. The tech said the line was capable of 23M adsl2 or 10M vdsl. Or 30M+ with bonded. But said he was only going to set me up for single line 15M adsl2. I emailed customer service since i was already in contact with someone and they said "maybe the port can only do 15M." My current link speed is 17784 with 22db and snr of i think 10.5. Is this expected or should I be after them to at least set up a bonded line? Thanks

See you later slow speeds

Many websites advertise CenturyLink 30 day money back guarantee

The following list of websites (not including all websites) report that CenturyLink provides a 30-day money back guarantee. 1. https://www.vpnfan.com/blog/centurylink-internet-vpns/ 2. https://www.seniorliving.org/internet/best/ 3. https://www.whistleout.com/Internet/Providers/CenturyLink/ADSL/Internet-20Mbps-3 4. https://connectnw.net/centurylink/the-features-and-benefits-of-centurylink-internet-plans/ Recent virus restrictions require working from home. I requested CL service and after a few days attempting to work, download / upload 3D models repeatedly failed / never completed - CL requested I discontinue service and return the equipment. Equipment was return the next week. CL said I would receive a full refund after I called back, upon receipt of the bill. Today, CL told me they do not provide refunds, and there is no 30-day money back guarantee. Would someone be able to help facilitate a refund?

[AZ] CL 80Mbps Fiber - what to expect

After suffering from Cox cable node saturation in my area, which leads to high jitter and packet loss % on my internet and subsequently caused VPN disconnect and unusable Skype dialog, I am desperate and need a new ISP. Currently on Cox I am getting 100~150msec jitter and anywhere from 10-30% PL depending on the time of day. Skype demands 30ms jitter and 5% PL... CL is the only viable alternative for me. While poking for the offers on CL website in for my residence, I see 80Mbps fiber plan available but I have to pay for $99 installation and computer setup fee (Btw, is there a way to get this fee waived?). I have a few questions and hope to get help in this forum: 1. The whole reason of me switching from Cox is the unacceptable jitter and PL% in my uplink. What I care most - will CL Fiber plan improve my experience? Will I still suffer from node saturation on ISP side? 2. CL rep told me that I have to use the Actiontec model/router from them. What confused me is the following info from CL website: https://www.centurylink.com/home/help/internet/modems-and-routers/compatible-modems.html What is the best modem for CenturyLink Fiber Internet? The preferred models for CenturyLink Fiber are the Greenwave C4000XG and the Zyxel C3000Z. They're not Actiontec. Which info is correct? Btw, not knowing how CL would work out so I plan to lease their modem for the 1st month to see how it goes. If satisfied then I will commit to modem purchase. 3. I already have mesh-based Wireless router (Net Gear Orbi) at home and I don't want to switch to the router function on the DSL modem/router combo. I assume the DSL router function can be easily disabled or passthru? Thanks.

I live in a rural area. I would love to be able to get 10-15Mbps download that alot of people on this forum are complaining about. I had an old pk500z modem that was replaced by the actiontec c1900a by centurylink. Was getting only 2.5Mbps down until I rebooted the modem and now getting 3.9-4.0Mbps which is what I am actually paying for. A Centurylink tech told me not too long ago that about a mile down the road from me they cannot get internet at all I guess I should be thankful.

Going from CenturyLink dsl 20 to 100 Mbs

Hello all from the Mpls. / St Paul MN suburban area. We live outside the city and the only 2 ISP's are CenturyLink and Comcast. I have been with CenturyLink DSL for the past 21 years. Started out at 5 Mbps then now on 20 Mbps. I can upgrade to 100 Mbps per the CenturyLink sales rep. Not sure if it is really 100 or if it is 2 dsl lines combine to get something like 100 Mbps (bonded?). Currently, I have the CenturyLink / Technicolor 2000T modem. The rep says that I need to upgrade to Xyzel C3000Z modem, their officially supported modem. I looked on Amazon and the reviews were all over the place. Some 5 stars and others 1 star. Do you have any real experiences with the C3000Z? I just placed an order for the Ubiquiti Dream Machine Router / Switch. How easy is it to put the C3000Z on bridge mode as a DSL modem only and have the Ubiquiti do all the rest of the functions such as routing, DHCP, NAT, VLAN and wireless AP? Are there other DSL modems that would work well given my setup? The CenturyLink rep says that they only officially support the C3000Z and nothing else! I look forward to your reply and your suggestions. Thanks.

[CenturyTel] provider modem codes (apparently an industry firmware standard?)

Hello, I use a DrayTek Vigor2862B bonding/vectoring modem with my CenturyLink VDSL2 connection. Works very well. Been using over 2 years. DrayTek periodically (fairly often) supplies new firmware. The firmware offered is usually in 3 (this time around 4) varieties with each new version. For these varieties, the release notes say it should be used with such and such "modem code", which is a hexadecimal string determined by the provider (i.e. CenturyLink in my case). Example release note from the latest version of their firmware will show you what I mean: https://www.draytek.com.tw/ftp/Vigor2862B/Firmware/v3.9.3/DrayTek_Vigor2862B_V3.9.3_release-note.pdf Listed below are the 4 varieties and their affiliated modem codes (showing only Annex A codes as that's the modem type I have): Version and Modem Code  3.9.3 Standard - Provides Annex A modem code 776D07_772801 and 774307_771801.  3.9.3_ Bonding_MDM1 - Provides Annex A modem code 779517_773F01 and 77B507_775401. Recommended for Australia.  3.9.3_ Bonding_MDM2 - Provides Annex A modem code 77B506_775401 and 778C06_773F01.  3.9.3_ Bonding_MDM3 - Provides Annex A modem code 77C717_775A11. Anybody who is a CenturyLink DSL expert know what I should be using? I'm in Brighton, CO USA (near Denver). Based on this I have it narrowed down to Annex A which eliminates half the choices since the DSL connection I have is RJ-11 and not RJ-45 (which is Annex B): https://www.draytek.com/support/knowledge-base/5002

Actiontec pk5001a bridged mode wrong time

I encountered an interesting problem recently and I wanted to share my resolution. I have a CenturyLink Actiontec pk5001a modem with a PPPOE connection. The modem is in bridged mode, as I have a enterprise class wifi router (a Fortinet). The modem, got rebooted at some point and the time reset to the default which was way off (it was set to 2012!) For the most part this did not cause any issues, but I started noticing that some sites would not load. Also, activating services was broken. For example, i could not activate my Roku device at all. I spend weeks opening up firewall ports, removing security, and tinkering with wifi settings. The Roku had internet access, but would not activate. Multiple calls to roku and CenturyLink were fruitless. Then I noticed this time issue. And it got me thinking, the modem could be time-stamping packets incorrectly causing activation services, which use this information to block the activation. The problem is, that when a modem is in bridged mode, it cannot receive time updates because it does not (really) have an ip address. The GUI responds to 192.168.0.1, but the device itself cannot connect to anything. And there is, conveniently, nowhere on the Actiontec GUI where you can manually set the time. Of course, I could have flipped the device to routed mode, got the update, and then flipped it back. However, I was no where near my modem, working remotely from two states away. After a lot of tinkering, I came up with this. - Turn on remote console and allow telnet - Telnet to the device, using admin account and password - Use the linux command "date -s YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm" to set the date and time manually That's it. The device has the correct time, and my activations worked again!

Actiontec c1000a disassembly? Fix power adapter connector

Does anyone know how to open the chassis of an Actiontec c1000a? I can't find anything online. I think there maybe screws under the rubber feet. I just don't want to break it. I'm having some power connector problems. Everything else on this modem works fine. Jiggle the connector, and it reboots. I'm tired of that. Might be a simple fix if I could get it open. I hate opening plastic chassis and breaking the tabs due to ignorance.

Starting today, my DSL modem will work for a bit but then the DSL light will flash red, then flash green, then turn green. Internet connection follows. It may be good for a few minutes but then repeats. I even tried a spare modem with the same results. Modem is a C2100T. Thanks.

CenturyLink Gigabit Fiber

I have signed up for CenturyLink Gigabit Fiber, and it works great except I cannot receive inbound on IPv6, ports (22,25,80,443,etc). Listening to ports on IPv4 works okay. Outbound IPv6 and IPv4 work as expected. Called tech support so many times, they don't know anything about IPv6. Cox at least has a higher level support line that usually knows. I'm using the provided Xyxel C3000Z DSL/Router (running PPPoE to Fiber Terminal) with IPv4 and IPv6 Firewalls disabled. Has anyone had any success with connecting inbound to listing ports on IPv6?

My buddy has this in his condo, when looking at the profile it's using IPOE so no need for any PPOE info in there, what we're looking for has anyone used a media convert to convert it to ethernet to go directly into his own router? Thanks in advance.

Gigabit fiber (+ phone) install: what to expect?

$

I'm located in Seattle, WA, and last month, CenturyLink completed the fiber build-out in my block. The nearest tap appears to be on a pole at the edge of our property line in our back alley. I'm very interested in switching my Internet and Voice over from Comcast, but had a few questions I'd appreciate the collective wisdom of the forum to help answer. 1. A few weeks ago, my address went from being qualified for 12Mbps service to showing 100Mbps "Advanced Fiber". However, it still doesn't show eligibility for Gigabit. I called in to the engineering/development team and left a voicemail, and ultimately that got routed to a Business Sales associate who couldn't help but said he would try to get the right folks engaged to update the system. It's been about 3 weeks since then, but still no updates. Anyone have tips on how to get the database reviewed/updated so I can get the Gigabit service? Or is it possible that they're maxing out at 100Mbps now? 2. For install, is fiber terminated on the outside of the house, and then CAT5/6 used to bring it inside, or do they bring fiber all the way in? Our house is new construction (well, about 1 year old now), and I ran a cat6 line to the back corner of our (detached) garage, which is about 4 feet from the pole with the tap. However, there is no external power outlet at that location (that one got by me, unfortunately). I do have additional cat6 and power at the front end of the house, where the Comcast line comes in. Or, if they do take fiber all the way in, are there any limitations or requirements for where/how they drill through the building exterior? I would generally prefer to have all the equipment in the equipment room, but also am cautious about any holes drilled through the exterior, so just trying to understand what the tech will want/try to do so I can prepare accordingly. 3. I have a Ubiquiti-based network setup, with the original USG as my router. It looks like this is compatible with CenturyLink, though may need an upgrade if I want full DPI and gigabit speeds. Any other issues with this setup? I know I'll need to get the PPPoE credentials to make this work. 4. I currently have a Comcast Digital Voice line along with my Internet. If I wanted to switch this to CenturyLink as well, and port my existing number, what's the best way to do this, and how does that play into the install scenarios? Does the ONT have a phone line out connection that needs to connect to CAT5/6? Is it on the modem? Can I setup new phone service with a new number, and later port my existing number over to replace the one I was given at install time, once I make sure the overall CenturyLink setup works for me? Best process to do this? Or, are there any other voice services that folks here recommend instead of CL? I do occasionally have to send faxes (crazy, I know), so not sure all/any VOIP providers support that, but I suppose I could find alternatives to faxing directly if need be. Thanks!

Century Link new DSL questions

CL says I have (up to) 40mbps & 80mbps available at my address. The latter requires a $99 tech visit; something about using two lines (bonded?). I have some questions: 1. I'm a rather private person. I'm trying to understand if purchasing the faster speed (requiring a tech visit) requires the tech to enter the home? The NID is on the side of a single-family house. 1) Can they do all the tuning/setup at that location? Or, do they have to access the actual RJ-11 jack where the modem will ultimately plug into? 2. I believe the lower-speed service requires a tech to come and do something too. But, I'm pretty sure that's entirely outside. And then it's up to me to setup the modem with info CL provides (and maybe a call to the support desk). Is this true? I guess the above two questions are intended to understand: under what circumstances would they need to enter the home? (For example, does bonded require the wall outlet to be modified to use 4 wires?). 3. What is a good modem to buy for the 80mbps service? I talked to CL tech support. They said I should get a model with vdsl2 at least 80mbps, and bonded capability?. I've looked at their list of approved modems. Do you guys know if there's one modem that's considered the best to get? Thanks in advance! I'm just trying to understand what to expect. I'm thinking I may subscribe to the lower plan. But, want to get a modem capable of the higher plan. (If there's no need to enter the home, I'd probably start with the higher pan.).

No Ability to Connect to Internet After DSL Card Reset Request ???

ZyXel C1100Z modem used without issues since January. I suddenly started having disconnects in the evening hours only for about 4 days. I requested CL tech support to reset my DSL card. The person tells me over the phone they can detect remotely that my modem is broken. I asked how can that be when I have a VOIP phone service I'm using right now to talk with you? No further explanation from her. She says she needs to consult with a supervisor and then puts me on hold. In about 3 minutes I lose my connection, and I assume she reset the DSL card remotely as requested. When I get a steady light for DSL, I reboot the modem. When modem is back up I assume all is good and ...... nothing will connect. I go to line stats and am greeted with the stats you see above. ZyXel modem indicates DSL is up but is in a state of constantly connecting. ---Does it not seem odd that modem has been fine, but then I ask to reset DSL card and I can no longer connect? So, I pulled out my old C1000A. It connects without a glitch. I was also told at one time that THIS modem was also broken and should be replaced. But here I am now using the Internet with it. Look at the stats for it below the ZyXel results. Does anybody know what is going on here? Is a modem in a constant state of connecting a sign the modem is broken? Does CenturyLink tech have the ability to block a known modem but still provide a DSL connection? Is it not suspicious that as soon as I ask for the DSL card to be reset, and tech support tries to convince me my modem is broken, after reset I suddenly can't connect anymore with that modem but another modem that I've been told is broken works fine? How do I get my regular service back without this kind of hassle?

I was getting line drops and WTH!? Is this a BGP hijack or what? I'm getting the Centurylink home page on a German server with a ip of 45.154.183.183. There is no way I am entering any of my credentials and personal info on a non-us portal to read my e-mail.
