Just switched from Comcast to CenturyLink VDSL2 bonded. I have an Asus RT-AC68U router (stock firmware) that was connected to the cable modem. Comcast service was 55 down/5 up. Speed tests over wifi were showing 60-65 down and 6-7 up. Now I have the Asus taking care of PPPOE and connected to the Actiontec C1900A which is in bridge mode untagged (wifi is off). Speeds are supposed to be 80/10. Over ethernet I get 78-80 down and 9-10 up so I know I'm getting advertised speeds. However, when I connect via wifi and run a speed test I get anywhere from 25-60 down and 9-10 up. I would normally chalk this up to interference but Comcast was consistently showing advertised speeds over wifi. Plus the upload speeds over ethernet and wifi stay around 9-10 so I'd expect it to be lower if it was interference related. It's just the download speeds that are so far off. The only thing that has changed is the router handling PPPOE. Is this expected behavior or is there some way to get better speeds over wifi?

[Qwest] Best way to correct database error?
I just moved into a new home. The home itself is new construction, but the neighborhood its in has been established for several years.
I have been checking the CenturyLink website regularly during the past month, and it has said that 120 Mbps VDSL2 is available at my address during this time. (Both residential and small business).
Now that I am ready to order, however, its saying high speed internet isn't available at all for residential and only 7 Mbps for business - and not just at my address, but all the neighboring addresses I tried. I know for a fact that service IS available in this neighborhood - I have seen CL modems in neighbors' homes. Most houses also have a CL NID on the house. I also know that I am just a stone's throw away from the DSLAM (which is FTTN based on what the website used to say - "advanced fiber technology.")
I'm assuming this is just a database error? What's the best way to go about getting them to fix this and let me order service? I have never had much luck dealing with the call center, but I'm going to give them a call shortly, I guess.
Thanks.

Monitor Bandwidth Usage Real-Time
Hello. Is there any way to monitor bandwidth usage in real-time on the router? I'm using a C3000Z and I do not see any way to do that.
We live in a rural area and are stuck with low speed DSL so I often need to run around the house to find the culprit when speeds drop.
If there is no way to do this via the router, what other options are there?

Big Drop in Bandwidth during day/evening
Just had Gig Fiber installed. Late night bandwidth 900 up down. I get a huge drop during day and evening down to 200-300 up down. Is this normal? Is there a minimum where Centurylink will add another node?
Thank you

Actiontec C3000A Centurylink router vs Asus RT-AX88U
Have Centurylink Fiber gig line. Compared Wireless and LAN speeds on both routers separately hooked direct to ONT using PPOE. Wide open routers. Surprisingly the Actiontec C3000A has about 30% higher LAN Bandwidth. Would it be possible for Centurylink to pair their own C3000A routers with IP addresses that have better bandwidth?

Talktous no longer responding
Hello again,
***Please read first. I have no intentions on upsetting anyone and I really don't enjoy writing this as I have other things to do. This is not meant to allow others to bash centurylink. your problem with centurylink are yours. I have posted this to have public record of progress with issues that can no longer be resolved through the chains given to me as a customer. I would rather do this before involving any service commission that would not be beneficial to anyone.***
The issues we have had over the years have usually been resolved after an email to talktous@centurylink.com (or mostly IHD Escalations people, who now say I have the wrong department). After spending hours on the phone with tech support to check if my modem is plugged in to the wall or resetting all factory defaults and trying this or that setting, I started emailing issues with speed tests logged. That was what now seems to be the good old days.
Since back in late 2014 our connection is at its best 2mbps down(I got excited when we reached 5 down with latency of 113 once), with latency being 200+. Upload speeds seem to be close to the norm at .40-.70. I sent an email to Talktous@centurylink.com on the 13th of July and have had no response.
The last few interactions let me know how much of a miracle it is to have 10Mbps here. I've also been told of the known bottleneck in Basile, La. My normal download speed at 5:30AM is .9*Mbps. Trying to check into work after hours is impossible. A lot of the time I can't load centurylink.com without finding something to do while waiting. Just in case anyone is wondering, yes, I have unplugged everything but my pc to test speeds. I was also born the day before yesterday and not quite yesterday. I now have a fresh OS install on this pc. I also check with my work laptop directly connected while trying not to drive 40 Min. away to the office when the issue could be addressed without leaving my family at 2AM.
This connection used to be fixed promptly when we could work together on it. I wish I could say the same is still true.
So, have you guys just given up? Is my only option to cancel service because this feat of 10Mbps is unobtainable? Why cant someone just tell me this instead of taking my $80 per month?
Is it possible to provide you guys with direct burial cat6 to replace a bad line? A trencher isn't that hard to obtain, so could I provide one and you guys rerun a line? I could also provide access to the easement and get dottie out, get a schedule and take off of work to allow for the pull. Are there some power issues somewhere that we could address with engineered solar backup banks? I'm willing to put up some personal capital in this to help provide what I've been paying for. I would really appreciate some sort of thought. When this connection works correctly it allows me to spend more time at home. Not much more, but enough to find it important.
EDIT*** I updated my profile to reflect that I no longer live in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Currently live in Reeves, Louisiana. Just would like to be as up front as possible.

Price Lock.... is it a contract?
I own a WISP have a client who is rocking some 1.5mbps DSL and switched to us. They have a residential "Price Lock" in month 30 of 36. Anyone know if this is a contract or just a commit on CL's part for a discounted price?
Somehow it's the first time I have seen this on residential. This is old USWest/Qwest territory.

[Qwest] CL Aerial Fiber? 1000 feet from Aerial Drop. Possibilities?
Looking for a CL Tech / Engineer's help here.
My address, states "Advanced Fiber Technology" and yet I have Bonded VDLS2 10/1M. No news here on update/upgrades. So I'm trying to take thing as far as I can so CL might help :)
Overview
Along our road CL has aerial fiber feeding an additional Cabinet up the road by a few miles. I'm roughly 9000' North of the Main Cabinet/DSLAM that has been fiber fed for years. First Picture Below shows current DSLAM/Cabinets etc.
I was first told, I'd never gain access to aerial line. But since then, CL has done aerial drops at each other road intersection within the past 6-12 months. One intersection is roughly 1000' to the south (Second Image ). There's additional equipment here as shown in the photo as well.
In our front yard we have an aerial pole that runs over to the power poles. These power poles are also where the CL aerial fiber is running to the additional cabinet about 3 miles up the road.
I'm in pretty good shape as I have Aerial Poles ready, so no boring is needed which seems to be a barrier and huge cost. What's possible with this setup? Would CL let me connect at the intersection 1000' down the road?
Also, I have had a few correspondences with the Power Company regarding pole attachment if I need to run a fiber line all the way back to Main DSLAM and connect in to CL's network.
Any addition work I should complete to give me the best shot at CL assisting me? I'm not looking to spend 200K by any means, but I don't mind shelling out a money upfront if speed can happen.

CenturyLink DSL Modem for Montezuma County Colorado
Looking for CenturyLink modem purchase options. In a rural area with 10 mbps we may even get 20 mbps service some day. Want to set up a basic modem and bypass wi fi to use with our own router or a good combo modem router. What are the good basic modems for use with a separate router? And what are the good combo routers/ modems with 5 GHz with ac wi-fi? Looks like Actiontec C2300A, Technicolor C2100T, and ZyXEL C2100Z have 2.4 GHz b/g/n, 5 GHz n/ac. I'm not familiar with these companies so I'm not sure which brand is better.
Option 1
Basic C'Link modem and good router with 5 Ghz ac (like the Asus's RT-AC86U)
Option 2
Good combo modem/ router with 5 Ghz ac
This is a C'Link DSL set up for Dolores area of Colorado a semi-rural area in Montezuma County. Small house with minimal crossover interference from neighbors.

Gigabit or nothing??

Fiber Losing IP
Just recently at either 11pm-2am I will lose my IP to my router. I am using a ubiquiti Amplifi HD in PPPOE. I am not in a tagged VLAN area. I have also tried another router(tplink) and it does the same thing for testing purposes. Service has been rock solid for about a year, until recently when it tells me Ive lost internet.
And when I go the internet configuration page the PPPOE page says Connecting and I have an IP of 0.0.0.0 until it re connects. Is this an issue with the ONT or on their end. I thought last week just maybe because it was at night that it was just maintenance. Now its occurring more frequently.
Im on the 100mb Fiber plan in Austin Ar.

Internet went down last night, comes back as VDSL...
So I have CL DSL ... extremely meager service ... it's official numbers in the Configuration is usually about 7.07 Mbps / .574 mbps (was .446 mbps for the first year, late last year I got them to come out and put it to .574 because I could show the tech a screenshot that it started at .576 [he insisted it was .574, despite seeing my screenshot lol.] ) but they refused to do any further upgrades, no bonding, etc. I am simply too far away, sorry.
So the one thing I will say is that despite my internet connection being terribly SLOW, it's pretty rock solid. I am coming up on my 2 year anniversary with CL and haven't had a problem since.
Last night, around 7pm for me, my internet connection dropped. When it was out for 5+ minutes, I went and unplugged the modem, etc. Still out. So I log into the configuration area of my modem, and notice that the speeds listed are much higher than I'm used to. Am I getting an upgrade?!?! Woohoo!! HOWEVER, it also says I'm on VDSL2-8A ... and my line has been ADSL2+ since inception, and I was told it was impossible for me to receive VDSL due to distance. Impossible.
Well it still won't work, so I call CL and get one of their call-center techs, who says there is no issue with my area, no reported outages, and "Yes, it looks like you're getting much more than you pay for..." -- I mean, I have Price for Life up to like 25 or 40 Mbps (there is some controversy there -- initially it was good to 40 then they changed it to 25... my argument would be, it was 40 originally..) -- anyway-- The tech does all sorts of stuff, infuriating (did you try unplugging it? Did you try connecting through a different port? etc. etc. etc.) --- I tried pointing it, It's virtually certain someone was/is working in the area -- might still be out there -- and changed something, ... but all she would do is put a ticket in the system in for a repair technician to come. (And due to the language barrier, I have no idea if that is actually going to happen.) --- One thing I should point out here... when I initially logged into the modem when it wasn't working, the speeds were like 8.999 / .896 ... (meager internet, but an upgrade for me!) -- every time I power-cycled the modem or reset it, the numbers would get lower and lower, but still not connect. I tried to manually set it back to ADSL2+, it wouldn't connect at all. I would set it to Auto-Select, and it would default to that new VDSL2+ 8A, but not connect to the internet.
So ... I am wondering if anyone has any info or opinions in this... I have previously posted my line stats etc, everyone agreed basically, no chance for VDSL, my "loop length" is right now showing 7180 feet, it varies but it's always at least 7000+ feet ... my driveway is 700 feet, and the NID is outside my house, the CL box is at the corner near the end of my driveway, that's almost 800 feet alone. I was told multiple times, I am just screwed, I have the absolute best I am going to get, and VDSL is impossible.
So I woke up at 330AM for me, and the net was still down. But, at 7:30AM this morning, it's currently online and working, and the speeds are listed as
6.740 / .789 -- but is working, it's online now. And it's showing as VDSL2+ - 8A ... I am not sure if a tech is coming out, not really sure about anything other than, this is very suspicious to me.
Wondering what the braintrust thinks here ... As always, thank you very much and sorry for the lengthy post, I always like to include as much information as possible.

Limited upstream bandwidth
I recently upgraded from 25/2 to 40/5 in Columbia, MO. I'm getting close to 40 Mbps down, but still only ~2 Mbps up. I have a C1100Z modem in bridge mode and ran the speed tests directly hard wired to the modem. There's a dedicated cable run from the NID to the modem.
The modem status page says that it's connected at 43/6. I'm not sure how reasonable the signal quality and error rate values are. Would the modem lock at 6 Mbps if there were signal quality issues? Could CL have an incorrect throttle set on the connection somewhere?

Called to cancel my CL service
The local telephone cooperative (CTC) recently installed fiber down my rural road so I immediately jumped on it. 100Mbps up/down for $50/month! It's been running smoothly for a week now so I called CL to disconnect. Rep honestly said "It looks like we can't get you a faster speed than 5Mb, but I can lower your price for life to $40/month." :hmm: I sat dumbfounded for a minute trying to comprehend the offer. Gee, save $10 and stay at 5Mb, or pay $10 more and have 100Mb fiber. LMAO

Low upload speeds GPON Fiber Queen Creek AZ
I had GPON 1 gig fiber installed a few weeks ago. Had to have techs out 3 times to work on low download and upload speeds. We finally have the down speeds where they should be. Upload speeds are maxing out at 600 and should be closer to 900. The last tech said its because "the box in the park" is not updated yet to handle 1 gig up. I'm paying for 1 gig up and down. Is it reasonable to ask for money back monthly until they can support the service they sold?

Tech install when ONT already exists from prior install?
Friend of mine in Phoenix is having service set up at her house she's moving into this weekend - the house apparently had fiber service prior - ONT is on the wall - fiber is running from the pole - CL says they need to send someone out to "set up the speeds"?? This doesn't sound right to me. Sounds like $99 for nothing. Am I wrong?

No show for installation appointment
Made an appointment for 1 gig installation. Received automated call verifying appointment time, which was today 9-11am. That time came and went with no one showing up. The online 'where is my technician?' site claimed an 'error' even though I entered all the correct info.
If i had to guess why the tech didn't show up, we have overhead fiber in the alley, but from the pole to the house, all of the utilities are underground. The pole is on the opposite side of the alley from our house.
If that was the issue, and CL required another crew for underground work, it would have been nice to have been informed instead of wasting hours at home when I could have been at work.
I just called and cancelled the order, person at CL offered no explanation.
I heard CL wants to sell their residential side of the business, perhaps they have already given up on it.

CLink 10Mb sync problems
Clink 10mb service to rural area has become erratic over last few weeks, especially after rain / thunderstorms. The modem will loose sync every 15-20 minutes.
I have cleaned the network jack on the NID box, retighted the copper lugs and even ran a temporary line directly to modem with the same results.
Here is screen shot of modem stats. I read thru the T-shooting Faq and these stats seem OK for my rural setting.
Modem is a TP-link 8817 set to bridge mode feeding Asus router.
I updated the router to latest wrt-merlin software, but has not made any difference.
I've not called CLink yet. What do I need to request from them?
thanks,

zyxel C1100Z DHCP problems
First, I'm in no way a networking guy, so I may have missed something obvious. On to my issue:
I have CenturyLink fiber. They supplied me with a Zyxel C1100Z router, which supplies DHCP service to devices on my LAN. Most devices work fine but some can't get IP addresses. The devices with issues include newer devices: iPhones, iPads, Raspberry PI's. These work fine on other networks, just not the C1100Z hosted ones. Older iPhones, iPads, Raspberry PI's, Sonos, Tivo's, Mac's etc all work fine on the C1100Z LAN. I can set up static IP's for the newer devices and then they work (I've tried it) but that is a hassle that DHCP is supposed to eliminate. Furthermore, visitors that have newer devices are out of luck unless I change their settings - see comment about hassles above.
The non-working devices fail to get an IP address, and of course they don't show up in the device table of the C1100Z.
Any ideas?
