Location speed check requires $200 deposit or hard hit on credit?
WTF? I call Centurylink to see if Gig speeds available at my house. Online doesn't show my address but I know neighbors have it. CSR states it would require either a hard hit on credit or $200 deposit to determine if available at my house. Ha ha
No thanks.

Is the Actiontec C3000A a good modem ?
Is the Actiontec C3000A a good modem ? I have bonded dsl service. ADSL2+ 20/2. Currently have a Actiontec C1900A. I have been having some issues on my service the last couple weeks and it could be my modem according to tech support. I’m doing a little research right now as to what is newer and available. They may be getting ready to upgrade my town to VDSL in the somewhat immediate future so need something that works for bonded service and different types of DSL service, I own my current modem and do not use the WiFi feature because I use Apple AirPort Extreme routers and turn WiFi radios off the Actiontec and run it in bridged mode.
Somewhere I read that you can’t use a Mac to open the GUI on the C3000A but I find that odd as I have never had that issue with any other Actiontec I have owned. Any one know anything about that?
Thanks in advance for any input you can give.

Internet Disconnects after Phone Call with Speed Upgrade
Hello everyone,
I have been with CenturtyLink for over 10 years, previously was Embarq before the merger and was using 7Mbps internet speed with a Home phone bundle and filter with no issues. Yesterday I decided to call and upgrade the interent speed to 25 Mbps for a great price and a tech came down to give use a new modem (Zyxel C1100Z) to swap out with. The internet works fine but every time we have incoming calls from our landline phone the internet just loses sync and I would have to unplug the powercord from the modem and replug back in to get it working again (Note we are also using a phone filter dongle). Before the upgrade with 7Mbps and old modem we did not have any issues plus the phone filter. Our home was bulit in the early 1990s and I check to see if a NID was outside and none was visible; The only thing I could see was this picture in my backyard:
I think my home wiring is a Cat3. Is there anyway I could do a homerun while also using the landline phone from this pic? Or anyway to fix the internet issue? It's frustrating having to reboot the modem for every calls after the upgrade.
Here are my info from the modem installed:

[Embarq] Price for Life
I've been using Centurylink service for over 30 years and have decided that I don't believe I should be paying over $82.00 for 10 Mb service and phone. I see that they now have a $45.00 plan for 80 Mb internet service post and prepay. My maximum speed is 10Mb. My wife still uses an embarq email address. I had heard that email was not included and that they attempt to sell @ease plans when making changes.
Does anybody know if I would be able to keep our email address and if there are additional fees added on to the bill like they do with their phone service? All I want is to have our landline phone service dropped. I also do not need a different modem.

Help getting Fiber
Good evening everyone! I moved to a brand new neighborhood about a year and a half ago. The whole community that I live at (except for my street for some odd reason) has gigabit fiber readily available, even as they were building houses on the other streets. When I moved, I was excited to order the service. I ordered the service online shortly after moving and my address shows that it qualifies for gigabit speed internet. About a week and some change later, the tech came through but informed me that it wasn't available on my street just yet.
A few weeks later (towards the end of 2017) I saw some trucks roll through my street carrying a thick orange cable (I'm assuming it's the conduit?) and saw people placing orange flags and digging through people's yards. They got halfway through my street but for some reason stopped. I tried ordering service twice last year, however when the techs come out they still tell me that "it's coming" and that the fiber is only "two houses down". They did install a gray box on the side of my house (I'm also assuming it's the Optical Terminator) the last time they came through late last year though, which gives me some hope.
Fast forward to Feb. 2019 and for some reason, they still haven't even made a dent to finishing rolling out the fiber, however all of the houses on my street have been finished being built a couple of months ago. I attached some pictures that I took back in April of 2018 that shows the equipment they have placed. The equipment has been sitting like this on my street for almost a year now, untouched.
Is there someone that I can contact to see what's going on with the rollout and why it still hasn't been completed and possibly get an ETA? I appreciate any help that you guys can give me! I would love to take advantage of the $65 gig promotion they have going on right now.

Anyine seeing DNS issues with CL internet
It's been getting real bad in this area.
CL blames a line problem and will do a truck roll, but I doubt a field tech will be able to resolve a issue that is not physical layer to begin with.

Targeted ads for Northern Louisiana in certain apps
In the last week or so, I've been getting targeted advertisements in certain VOD apps on my Xbox One for Northern Louisiana. The problem is, my second house where this is happening in in Las Vegas, NV. I realize this is where Centurylink's HQ is.
When I open up Google Maps on my computer, it has my location down very accurately. Any idea why I'm getting targeted ads for Car Dealerships in Northern Louisiana instead of Las Vegas? This is primarily happening in FXNow and Hulu.

New at ISP
My family already has CenturyLink and it’s hard to game sometimes since 5 people are on the internet. Is it possible for me to go through CenturyLink and have my own connection without anyone else dragging down the speed with the same address as my family? Would they just send another router or something or what?

6mb vs 20mb
Conflicting info from CL regarding the bandwidth available to our house. Currently have 6mb that was set up half dozen years ago for 19.99 a month and that price has held. Whenever I call CL for some reason, a message comes on while on hold that says 20mb is available at our location. Same thing when I go to the CL website, there's a page that says I can upgrade to 20mb.
However, when I call CL to check out upgrading to 20mb, being told 6mb is the max I can get. Anyone else had this?
I'd imagine if I did manage to upgrade to 20mb that my 19.99 rate would also be upgraded :)

CL made my PTR cname.domain.tld.0.0.0.in-addr.arpa? Why?
Why is my PTR record "cname.domain.tld.0.0.0.in-addr.arpa". I had used the static IP tool in Jan to set the PTR record and it didn't take until I called them today. Now it looks like that ^
When I had charter, my PTR record was simply cname.domain.tld and that was it. Is this a case of waiting and it will clear it self up or do I need to call again. Is this how CL does their PTR records? I'm confused. First I wait a whole month and now a messed up PTR record. At first I thought maybe I couldn't get one after all because It was a residential account, but I guess you can. The guy on the phone didn't have a clue, but he found a guru who fixed It in a heartbeat, took him less than 15 minutes to do my PTR record.
The cname and domain are spelled right, its just all the stuff that comes after the tld that I don't like. What should I do about it, if anything?

[Qwest] Questions about switching plans
I currently have 60/5 pair-bonded service from CL. That was the top speed available when I signed up with them last year. Their website is now showing two faster options for me:
- 120/10 PB-vdsl2 for $55, free tech install
- 80/10 PB-vdsl2 for $45, $99 tech install
I have a Technicolor C2100T modem; the compatibility table (http://www.centurylink.com/home/help/internet/modems-and-routers/what-modems-are-compatible-with-centurylink.html) shows it's good for 100Mbps bonded. Can it handle the 120Mbps service, or would I need a new modem?
Is the tech install actually required if I switch to the 80/10 plan? The CL phone rep said it was, but I didn't push him on it. I thought it would be something they could do without a truck roll since I already have pair bonded service.

Why do they VLAN tag 201?
I just want to get a answer on why they do this? Especially since Prism is now dead. What is the reasoning behind VLAN tagging to 201 on the ONT? I've heard them say its for security but even if this is true how does it improve security?

C2100Z static DNS not reflecting in ipconfig /all
Hi, everyone. I'm a SysAdmin by trade so I am a little frustrated at myself right now. I have a Zyxel C2100Z (FW CZQ002-4.16.011.30) that I have configured for Static DNS. I have tried Google and OpenDNS in the primary and secondary fields, but when I run ipconfig /all on any machine on my network I still get the C2100Z IP address as the primary DNS server and Google or OpenDNS (depending on which I have in there) as the secondary. This is causing some issues for me on some very work-specific websites. I cannot find anywhere else in the settings of the C2100Z where this might be coming from. I have checked all the machines and they are set to automatically get their DNS, nothing set statically in the OS at all. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

[Embarq] centurylink lines NEED to be fixed
my internet is slow and when it rains, it goes in and out ... sept 18 a repair tech stated ALL the lines on the street were bad and he put us on the best one that he could, but until they are repaired, things will be bad and to just unplug and plug in the modem when it happens, as that is all we can do.
I have not seen any repairs being made, and a couple of rain storms have already caused issues again. And I am still slow for internet, which indicate the repairs have not taken place.
We have rainy season coming up fast and I'm wondering if the lines will ever get repaired.
I am fed up with calling in as I am stepped through checking things in my house and my modem FIRST every time, even though I tell them I know its the lines.
Can anyone assist me in this situation? Does anyone know who I can contact for help?

Bridging C2100Z to RT-AC68U
Hi, everybody. I bought an ASUS RT-AC68U to use in place of my C2100Z for obvious reasons. I put the C2100Z into transparent bridge mode but didn't change any other settings on there. Do I also need to change any of the LAN settings on the C2100Z? The C2100Z local IP ends in .0.1 and the ASUS ends in .1.1
I have been over and over all of the pages that show the proper configuration to use in the ASUS settings and I have flashed the RT-AC86U with the latest ASUSWRT-MERLIN firmware. I have checked and double-checked all the settings but am still getting nothing.
Is there anyone using a similar setup with the AC68U or even the AC66U who would provide screenshots of each page to see if I am missing anything?
Is this even worth the hassle or should I just return the RT-AC68U and buy a DSL-AC68U?
Thanks for your time.

Looking for modern non-router modem for CL gigabit fiber
Hello!
I've referenced this site several times over the years, always a good source :)
I am switching from Comcast to CenturyLink after Comcast couldn't find me any package that didn't require getting either TV or cell service packaged with it, and CenturyLink started offering gigabit fiber for cheaper even than my prior promo deal, internet only, no contract. Sold!
However, this begs the question of whether my hardware is going to be up to the task. I have a Motorola branded Surfboard SB6141 connected to an ASUS RT-N16 with Asuswrt-merlin firmware. I've been using the combo for years, and it's likely due for an upgrade, so here's what I'm looking for:
- Modem with no built-in router (the combo ones always have more problems) that supports CL gigabit fiber
- If needed, a new router that also has customized firmware with better security and features. Note, I have been considering an Eero, so if you have experience/thoughts on that I'd love to hear em.
Literally every single modem I've found so far that's officially compatible is a combo setup. Thoughts?
Thanks,
Eric

"No one's home at CL for New Install rescheule . . .
I have a Fiber install scheduled for Tuesday. But as we all know they send out someone(s) the day before to run the Fiber from the pole. WELL, it's snowing now and we're expecting 4-8"+ and there is no way that I want my install or think that they can install in the snow. I have a specific place that the exterior box needs to go to access the conduit on the roof to the equipment room 4 floors down. Actually the install is so simple now that I have had techs thank me for having 90% of their job done for them.
So, I spent hours dialing numbers, everyone'e closed (Bankers Hours) and searching webpages to find someone to reschedule my install. No Luck. Even a Tech Support number said they were closed. What it's looking like is that until your install is complete and actuated your account is not able to access the "real" areas of company and you have only one place that you can go, the SimplePay page, and it have few resources for after hours or weekend support. It does have a page to cancel your install though . . .
A couple hours and many web searches later and I did get a number that got me a Stateside Tech Support person that was supposedly connecting me to Customer Support only to connect my with Offshore Tech Support. Where the young lady gave a ton of places to try that all redirected me to the "SimplePay" page. Once that was the result on many attempts she got a hold of a supposed "Customer Support" person via chat on her end. that person was probably in the US. After 35 minutes of me giving her info to type in to the CSR, I got a please hold we're almost there. 20 minutes later I realized that she had hung up on me but the call didn't disconnect. I had her on speaker phone and was working while I waited. So I have no idea what's happening . . . We'll see Monday morning and hopefully we won't get the snow since everyone has cleaned out the grocery stores and I have my monster snow blower all ready. That usually scares off the Snow Gods!! But then I would not be surprised if I get a call Monday looking to reschedule . . . Fingers Crossed.
I hope this is not an indication of thing to come . . .
