Connection issues after Q1000 vectoring firmware update.

Hey guys, last week I received notice that my modem firmware needed to be updated to support the vectoring rollout in my area. I believe it was going to roll out on the 14th. Anyway, I performed the update on Thursday of last week. A couple days ago I noticed my internet drops out all the time. I'm using PFSense 2.3.3-RELEASE-p1 for my router with my Actiontec Q1000 in transparent bridge mode, on 40/20 VDSL. I had to reset the modem to perform the firmware update (since the webUI isn't useable in bridge mode) and then set it back to bridge. In my PFSense logs I'm seeing "LCP: peer not responding to echo requests" and then the PPPoE connection is closed. Within a couple minutes it will reconnect. This can happen anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours apart. I contacted CenturyLink and they said they're not seeing any issues on the line and that I should replace my modem. As I own my modem, I'd rather not do this if it's not necessary. My questions are thus: Are there any troubleshooting steps I could take? To me this sounds like either a line noise or modem issue, but I'm not super fluent in DSL. Thanks!

C2100T Changing Transparent Bridge Not Working

I had a tech visit today and he was kind enough to give me a C2100T free of charge. I want to put it in transparent bridge, but when I do so, I just keep getting flashing DSL lights after resetting the modem myself and cannot get internet after doing so. I have tried factory reset with putting a pin in the back, but that doesn't really factory reset it, unless I do so in the GUI. Any ideas why the modem is in a limbo state?

Does anyone know when this firmware came out? When I telnet into the C2100t and request DSL Show, the format looks different. Also, the modem takes forever to boot up now.

Technical Requirements for Different Speeds

I'd like to know what requirements have to be met for me to get faster speeds at my apartment. It may not be the nicest thing to say, but I don't trust tech support/sales when they tell me nothing faster is available or the world is available (respectively.) Unfortunately I don't have the ability to call up the technicians who actually do the installs and know this stuff. This is what I do know: * My modem estimates a loop length of 3116 feet * I subscribe to 12M/896K * I have one line coming into the apartment Here's what I'm being told: * I qualify for up to 20M/2M if I install a second line to the unit and do pair bonding * Absolutely nothing faster will be available even with that second line Does anyone know if I get that second line installed if I'll be able to get faster speeds than 20/2?

Velop with FTTH

I'm about to try a two node Velop setup, replacing a Google WiFi setup that has worked but has me stuck with Double NAT. I am hopeful that I can finally ditch my C1100Z and just have the Velop connecting. According to updates I've seen, they support PPPOE and VLAN tagging. Anyone else with this setup in place?

New DSL Service... I should know better. Modem/Loop questions

I feel a little dirty but I ordered CL DSL last week. Although Mediacom offers 1gig in my area and well it's freaking fast I am tired of the $120/mo bill. With the 1TB clarification on the CL cap it seemed logical I could save a fortune with CL, Mediacom caps kill any chance at a less than $80/mo bill. CL is slower... much slower but manageable. Ok so in the order the loop qualification put me at 7mb yea that is awful but I don't believe the loop qualification speed. Neighbors all are in the 20mb range I am about 4 blocks from the CO. Some friends I know further down the line, say another 4 blocks are getting a reliable 12. And I do have a good understanding of the local network, no remote DSLAMS. To prepare my family for the soon to be pain of DSL I rate limited my Ubiquiti edge router x at 7MB and did some crafty QOS tricks to streaming video. Netflix, DTV Now, Youtube... nobody said a word. Well my daughter figured out the Smart TV would still do 4K on netflix but the Tivo was doing SD. Smart 10 year old. :) Install is on Wed so I dug up my trusty Moto 3347 to see if I could do a firmware update or anything, last time I loaned this out was 2014 I still had the firmware on my machine. So now you know the backstory time for my questions :) I plan to pass thru to my Edge Router and let it deal with the real problems. Will the Modem sync up at the fastest speed it can? Should I pick up something better to maximize my chances at a better sync speed? I have not had DSL since stuff like Bonding or VDSL/ADSL2+ became a thing, I am skeptical what the CO supports. With the 12/20mb speeds I have seen from others, what technology do you think I should prepare for? (We are a old Qwest market) I do know I have seen the 7mb qualification for others before but in the end they did better. Thanks for any suggestions!

Bonded service with C-Link install

I'm considering upgrading from 12/1 VDSL to 20/2 bonded service and unlike all past upgrades, CL wants to come into my home to connect the modem I'd buy from them. My policy is if I don't install it, I don't want it (for a variety of reasons). If I were to buy and install my own modem, would CL still want to traipse around inside my house? I've spoken to a CL tech who seems knowledgeable and is confident that the CL equipment is up to the task easily. The jack where my modem would be is properly terminated with both pairs on the RJ11 but the cable is 2 pair POTS line, not Cat 5. Thoughts and recommendations welcomed.

[Prism TV] Question regarding c2100t in transparent bridge mode

Prior to moving to fiber, my parents were using an old CL Q1000 modem. I had it in transparent bridging mode with wifi active, connected to another non-wifi router. Now I have the new technicolor 2100t modem and it appears that wifi is disabled when the modem is in transparent bridging. Is there any way to keep it as a bridge but activate the wifi and have the modem just be an AP? Thanks

To get bonded service, does CL need to do anything on their end?

11 years as a CL customer. Still maxed out at 3.5mbps down. Recently I came across a tech who impressed me with his experience and knowledge. He said that I could get bonded 8 Mbps where I'm at (which happens to be 14,000' (cable feet) from the......CoLo? dSLAM? It would just take a modem that supported bonding. So, I called CL to request this. And, you know where this is going; "Heather", with her thick South American accent, didn't know what bonded service is. Nobody at her team could make this happen on my account. My account must say "HE GETS 4mbps SERVICE FOREVER!!" So to my question: can I just purchase a CL modem that supports bonding and wire it correctly? Or does some switch need to be thrown somewhere that turns on super speed to my house? Thanks for any insight!!

Not getting advertised speeds with new Gigabit install

I had gigabit installed last week here in Portland, OR. Install went super smooth and I was able to get my R7000 router setup so I won't have to use the CL router. Using my router I'm getting around 550/700. With the tech there we also tested the CL router and it was actually less. Around 450/600. The ONT is installed in the front of my garage and has maybe 10ft to cabling before it reaches my router. I've been trying to test it on off hours and it doesn't seem to change at all. I'm happy with these speeds for $85 but would love to be able to reach the advertised speeds. I expected low to mid 900s up and down.

Question about my Line mode.

I've been having issues with my line. It's a long story that I can get into if anyone is interested. My question now though is that I have techs telling, and a field supervisor tech telling me I am on ADSL2+. My modem is telling me I am on G.DMT. MDMSTATS is telling me G.DMT Annex A. I have an email from the field supervision showing me I am on IPDATA: ADSL2+. What is going on? Until I had my modem replaced with the exact same modem(c1100z) I was on ADSL2+(according to modem page) with SNR of 9, and Attenuation of 36. I would sync at 7, and sometimes up to 9. but I was solid at 7. Now I'm at 5, with SNR that fluctuates between 18.4-20.4, and a Attenuation of 38. My internet feels off too at times, like webpages load slowly randomly, it's not at a certain time or anything. I don't get many CRC errors, but I average about 300-600k FEC errors a day. Price for Life in Colorado!?

Went to the CTL homepage today to see it advertising the new Price for Life. I put in my address, and these are the results: [att=1] The only thing that stumps me is that for the last couple months the online site says that my address is capable of 160Mbps. I'm only on DSL, and the DSLAM is about 1700ft away. I still don't understand how they could push 70 or 80Mbps down a single line- even bonded.

Is this CenturyLink FTTH?

I'm currently having a new home built in a brand new development, and even before the ground was broken I found these pedestals in every other lot (1 for every 2 houses on the street). I managed to find one that was open and found some thick shielded cable and a tag that said "Fragile - Fiber Optic Cable" or something to that effect. So far, however, my new address doesn't show up on the CenturyLink website, yet when I called in today to check (I'm optimistically about 60 days from moving in) I was told that the address IS in the system, however they only have it listed at a max of 100 Mbps. :( Hoping somebody can shed some more light on this, as I'm currently paying way too much for Comcast and am dreaming of FTTH in my new home.

Ethernet speeds good, WiFi slow and DSL line quality is poor

Hello, I just got hooked up to CL about a week ago. I qualified for 100 down and 20 up. I'm paying for 80 down and 10 up. I can get those speeds easily when connected with an Ethernet cable. WiFi download performance however is only about 25 percent or ~ 20 down and maybe about 7 up using 802.11g or n. I've tried all the usual WiFi optimization tricks like changing the channel from 1 to 6 to 11 and retesting each time. I have a great radio signal since the router is right in front of me. Another observation that concerns me is that my DSL line quality shows "poor" or "marginal" when viewing in the modem interface. Thinking that maybe it was my (old) house wiring I brought the modem outside and plugged into the telco network box directly. No change. No audible static can he heard on the telephone. I'm using the CL Technicolor C1100T if that makes a difference. I'm also using the green phone wire that came with the modem. I'm starting to suspect that my modem may be bad. Any advice or comments would be greatly appreciated. Tom

Experiences with CL (apparently new) fiber in Portland (Overlook)?

After many years of languishing with only one decently fast wired internet option (Comcast/Xfinity), it appears that my Overlook neighborhood in Portland (OR) may actually have a viable alternative (at least per CenturyLink's site). I'm asking here in case any Overlook residents have taken the plunge, and if so, what their experiences have been. Of course it could just be "fiber to the press release" nonsense.

Got Scammed by Centurylink Chat

Sent money via Money Order and it seems to of taken a letter 9 days to travel two states over to Arizona. It certainly could not be CL sitting on mail payments for additional fees. So of course I get hit with a $9 late fee. Proceed to do an online chat with some CL rep and she agreed to credit the amount. Next month comes and still no credit on the bill. And they wonder why I did not trust them and decided to take a screenshot of the chat (assuming they care about lying to me).
