I have Century Link Fiber 1,000 mbps upload and 1,000 mbps download. I seem to only be able to speedtest my connection over 900mbps for my download speed when I use the Century Link speed test utililty. Every other speed test I use depending on the city within my state I can't get over 300mbps or sometimes over 90mbps. I thought this was very odd, also when I am using youtube I buffer when I select 1080 HD. This doesn't always happen but it does happen. I don't think this ever should happen on my connection unless it's on the side of youtube, which I highly doubt. When I use Twitch.tv I get this as well, so I thought it may be the streamer I am watching. So I tried to stream multiple different streams, and they were the big streamers with the same thing. It buffers once in a while, which never should happen with my speed of internet.
I notice when I play a couple different games which I play a lot ( CS GO and PLayer Unknown Battlegrounds) I all of a sudden don't register my shots on certain servers. I have no way of knowing which servers they are because they are through ESEA and I don't have access to their ips, same with Playerunknown. I do know that they are on different servers because my ping is different on each game. Since I just brought up ping, I have noticed sometimes when I am on a Seattle server for ESEA ( CS GO ) I have over 30 or 40 ping. I am 3 hours drive from Seattle, I know I am in a seattle server because the people I am playing with are also in the state of Washington and they have between 11 and 20 ping. I can't figure out why I am getting over 30 and 40 sometimes. I understand what routing is, but I have seen 13 ping there before while playing.
Also I just did this line quality test here on the website, can anyone tell me what the red is below? I believe its my jitter, or loss or packet loss to Virginia. This I see is an Amazon server, which is who hosts the servers for Playerunkown Battlegrounds. Is this the issue I am having??? I have done 3 tests, the last test is after I registered here on the site. All 3 tests have shown red between 31% and 71% for ip addresss 54.239.111.96 which is State/Region: Virginia

[Qwest] Used C2000T cursed. Pulling previous owner's PPP.
Had a chance to get a pre-owned C2000T from a thrift shop. After performing a reset by reset button, and again by GUI it cleared the previous owner's info. However it populated the PPP credentials with the previous user's account when I did the "quick setup" with my log-in. It seems like it is being pushed into the modem through TR-69 based on WAN MAC or serial # through TR-69.
I repeated the process to make sure it was cleared and was able to duplicate it so it seems like there's something that references the previous owner's account with the serial # or WAN MAC. When I manually entered my PPP info through advanced settings, it sticks but I must wonder why the automatic setting causes previous owner info to get pulled and I have some concerns my account might responsibility issues.

Signed up for speeds that are now unavailable [grants pass, OR]
In a rural residential area about 2 minutes from town, stuck with 3mb connection with centurylink. Sunday I had a notification of my account advertising 7 and 12 mb connections. I signed up right away and received a confirmation email and everything. The next morning the options for faster speeds were gone.
I called their support and had 0 luck, just a CSR trying to get me to pay $70 a month for 4mb service. I asked for the number to my local office and they gave me a number to a local satellite company that said it had nothing to do with centurylink. I did some more research into who I should call about centurylink service in grants pass, looks like it might be a sub contractor in southern oregon called hunter communications. I've seen hunter's trucks servicing lines in the area but they are also a direct tv retailer so who knows what they are doing.

[Qwest] Used technicolor c2000t not holding settings upon reboot
I purchased a used c2000t off of eBay. I hooked it up and first off it didn't auto detect the DSL settings for my line, which my actiontec c1000a did. No biggie as I manually entered them from what I saw my c1000a had selected. My main problem is the modem doesn't save the settings upon reboot, it goes back to default settings every time I reboot it. I noticed the power supply that I got with it says "for c2100t only". This being a c2000t not a c2100t, I ordered a replacement power supply for it, hasn't come yet. If anyone can give some thoughts on why this happened and if replacing the power supply may help or not have any effect.

Fiber Not on Order Form Anymore
Went to check if CL was offering more than 100M since Comcast is about to light the Gig speeds here and now says I only qualify for 12 Meg DSL. The fiber node is in my back yard and only one person that I know of is on it.
Hope they're just redoing the website this late at night.

Pueblo West, Colorado New Construction
What are my best options for speeds fast enough to stream netflix and amazon at HD quality? I am outside of the Comcast footprint, so it looks like CenturyLink DSL is my only wired option.
Does CenturyLink charge to lay wire from their pedestal to my new home?
CenturyLink says they are upgrading service in Colorado. What exactly are they upgrading? Fiber?
Thanks,
Jerold

Upgrade from POTS ADSL?
It would be awesome if someone from CenturyLink could check to see when we will be upgraded to something better than 5.1Mbps ADSL at Bloomington Road, Fort Snelling MN 55111, known as the Upper Post Veteran's Coommunity. All around us people have 40/5 service and we're stuck with ADSL. I had 7.2Mbps when I first got service in 2015 but got stuck on a 5.1Mbps line with my 2nd service in the same apartment.
When will can we expect something better here?

CenturyLink Data Cap
Is this still at 250gb and enforced? I've read the terms page, and all that. But someone who has CL out here said they were told by CL that there is no data cap. I believe I asked if they had prism service, but I don't remember if they replied or not (was a couple weeks back, and buried on facebook).
I really struggle to keep our monthly usage below 250gb, and I no longer have a good way to track usage as I upgraded my home network with different routers/switches. Faster and more reliable, but don't have any real long-term monitoring solutions.

DSL Splitter Needed?
I have bonded pair DSL 40 down 2 up from Century Link using a C1900A modem.
My layout:
Century Link - NID - Home Wiring (CAT 5e) - C1900A - Splits to - WiFi Network and Phones
As you probably already know the C1900A has a line in and phone out. From the C1900A phone out I feed that back to all the other phone lines in the home.
The C1900A is in Transparent Bridging mode. The WAN on the C1900A goes to my firewall (Untangle) that does the PPPoE login, DHCP, firewall, and other UTM stuff. From Untangle to my WiFi router in AP mode.
There is nothing between the NID and the C1900A - just a single CAT 5e line all the way.
I have been reading recently about these DSL Splitters at the NID and how the can double your performance, solve world peace, ... bla bla.
With my configuration however with nothing between the NID and the modem will I gain much by using a DSL splitter if anything?
Not sure if it is a CenturyLink thing ... but BufferBloat is always all over the board with my connection.
I will add that the modem lists 20/1 per line. However I typically download 36MBit and 1.6Mbit up. I understand with pair bonding you lose a bit more for overhead as it has the task of splitting and combining things.
I can post all the stats if you feel that will help.

fiber available for my house?
Hi folks,
I just signed up for gig fiber in St. Paul MN. When I'm logged in to the site, CL's site doesn't show it as available. When I'm not logged in, CL shows it as available. I've signed up for every notification I could to notify me that better speeds are available, but none have arrived. I currently have 40mb DSL (connecting at 25/5 usually).
What are the odds that when they show up for the install that I can actually get gig fiber?

best modem for bonded vdsl2?
I'm in the process of getting upgraded DSL from CenturyLink and figured to buy my own modem to save a buck or two. Here are the "approved" modems that CL says that they support and I was wondering if there are better choices in this list or alternatives that are very good as well. Service promised is 20/2 bonded VDSL2:

Actiontec C1900A
Actiontec C2000A
Actiontec C2000A-D
Technicolor C2000T

Technical reqs for 12mbps DSL? CenturyLink don't know
Unfortunately, I am not having any luck getting past clip board pasters. It's very obvious when their response doesn't come out of canned script and they always insist further assistance is only available by voice call on the phone and when I call, I just get "our system says" crap.
CenturyLink's website asks for service address to ensure accurate service offering availability which is inaccurate non-sense at best. Sometimes they show 12mbps available and lets you order it online, but only as a new customer. As soon as I log-in to my account, I'm greeted with "please call us" or 7mbps as the highest available depending on the mood of their website.
CenturyLink Chat Rep quote:
"I'm sorry but we have limited access about that. But normally if an upsell is unavailable in the area means higher speed is not yet able to support by centurylink".
This is what my line looks like and my research suggests the line should be able to handle 12mbps at ADSL2. When I call, they say 7mbps is the best available. If a new customer moved here and selected 12mbps, what would they get? Or are they only lying to new customers under the cover of "up to 12mbps" to mean achievable speed that is "not exceeding 12mbps" ?

[CenturyTel] 25/5 DSL
I see CenturyLink has 25 down-5 up service at least some places. I have 25/2 but need more upload for video conference and security cameras. I am within 2200 feet of the DSLAM and on vdsl2 single pair.
They absolutely will not increase my upload speed unless I go to 40/5 or 60/5. Both speeds on bonded. I do not need that speed, extra expense or the hassle of bonded.
The centuryLink installer tells me that 25/5 is not available to any customer in the county. I am not too far from the DSLAM, they just do not offer 25/5. Why is it not offered in Pennsylvania?

If you haven't already, check out this DSL Stats free data logger
call me ignorant, but I just found this software today. http://dslstats.me.uk/features.html Thumbs up to this British guy Eric Chapman for this neat software. It's a relatively light software that feels very 1990s without all the spyware and bloatware of freeware today.
It goes into your modem through your LAN and asks your modem for line statistics at interval of your choice (default is 30 seconds, I use 2 minutes) and plots it out on graph. (default graph view is 2 hrs but change it to suite your purpose)
First you go into http://192.168.x.x modem user interface setup "remote Telnet" password. The remote can be disabled and it will still be accessible from within your local network but closed to access from the outside. This is where you set the password either way. It's best to set remote access disabled in order to minimize the likelihood of someone getting into your gateway from where they can get your personal information.
I've found the portal quirky and glitchy with CenturyLink modem stuff. You may need to re-enter the reenter the password each time you mess with the modem configuration page.
