So I just signed up for CL and have had them for about 4 days now. I'll start with saying this: the customer service is a joke. I have had bad experiences with TelCos in the past but CL took it to a whole new level. I was supposed to have braided wire installed and ready to go when I moved in. Tech never came. They were able to get out today and turned out I wasn't even sent the right modem, luckily the office had sent a spare (C2000T). I was never told that there was a $60 install fee, which they waived luckily, but it took 3 departments and an hour to get it as well as the price of the service fixed.
Anyway, with the standard service I was paying for 40/5 and getting 25/5. Not happy. The new braided connection seemed good at first, but when everyone started coming home this afternoon I guess things got a little crowded and I saw speeds anywhere from 15 to 36Mbps. The upload was a constant 16-18Mbps however (paying for 40/20). There also seems to be a big issue with buffering and YouTube with CL. My previous ISP (Charter) never had any issues with YT, however it seems I'm not alone and this is common with CL. I'm not even going crazy and trying to stream 4K video; it'll sit there and buffer while playing 360p. Sometimes it just stops buffering and I'll have to start the stream over again. And better hope that no one tries to do anything on the same network, because even something as simple as checking email interrupts the stream. Is there anything that can be done to fix this? I'm about ready to take all this equipment back and cancel it while I have 30 days and just got with the local Cable Co, but I haven't heard great things about them either.

Anyone else have billing issues?
Has anyone else experienced this?
You call in because your promo is about to expire - They say, oh ok, we can get you x amount for 12 months.
The first couple of months go by and your bill goes up, just a little.
Then it goes up a little more... and a little more .. until your still within your 12 month period, but your bill isn't 52.99 a month but 80? When you ask about it they say, oh, it's because your 10.00 a month credit went away... Umm that math doesn't add up.
Plus emailing them, you get no response...
Anyone else have this problem?

SlingTV over CenturyLink 100 fiber
SlingTV live video degrades, stutters, in the case of Disney XD caching arrow appears on screen and doesn't go away, etc.
VOD via Sling is even worse.
On the SlingTV App settings its stating "2.6624 MB/s" (Xbox One) and "3.7 MB/s" (Roku 3) as the bandwidth.
Running speed test via the Xbox One's Browser gives results of "97 Mbps" (Netflix fast.com) and "98 MB/s" (measurementlab.net).
The Xbox One and Roku are physically wired into a gigabit LAN with 100mbs fiber service from CenturyLink
No other streaming service has issues.
Netflix, CW, YouTube, Twitch, CrunchyRoll, etc. all play smoothly.
Anyone have any ideas what could be the problem? I suspect it maybe the SlingTV service itself.

Service availability options?
My house is about 5mi driving distance from what I believe to be a Centurylink CO in Earlham, IA. Just running addresses through their online availability checker I found that it ends about 5 houses away from us, ~1 mile from my house.
Is there anyone at Centurylink I can talk to about doing anything to extend service out to us? At this point we're even willing to buy or help buy equipment like loop extenders or mini dslam or even some type of business account that isn't necessarily DSL. But calling regular customer service or tier is not going to help. Suggestions?

High DSL Transport Discarded and DSL Channel CRC/FEC
Having extreme issues with DSL circuit. With high latency and horrible connectivity, CenturyLink says all is fine.
Current:
DSL TRANSPORT 30 Minute Discarded -- 962
DSL CHANNEL 30 Minute FEC -- 492
The counters are increasing and tech support is not addressing.
Any advice?

Sudden Speed Increase?
I can hardly believe it but this morning I got 41 mbps on the Netflix fast.com and 36 mbps on the speedtest.net speed tests instead of the 24 mbps that I normally get! In shock I ran the DSLR test and got 40 mbps on that! Can anyone explain the sudden increase? Is CL trying to spread holiday cheer?

[CenturyTel] High Latency and Low Speeds
Hello anyone that can assist me i hope somone can this started in the past month or so but every night at 830pm/840pm-1100pm-1130pm my net speed just takes a dive i been on the phone with tech supports since it started but no one seems to help me out or get it fixed first they thought it was the modem so i got a new one then they thought it was the ports i was on in the main box so they gave me new one i swaped from 20Mbps to 40Mbps today with 2 new ports and everything tested and worked fine then at 830pm like clockwork it is doing it again now the tech was here maybe 3 hours ago setting up this new 40Mbps dual line and it was working perfectly all the tests show 100% signal the speeds and latency was on the spot and at 830 it went back to high latency and slow speeds i can tell you now what its not, might help the brainstorm not the modem, not the ports its 100% signal strengh, its not a virus or maleware tried speed testing on multiple devices, all new wireing from my phone jack to the box outside, the tech even put in a new box outside today as well i just can't figure it out my personal thoughts is its either a data card in one of there server rooms or a bad router on there end somewhere but i am no tech expert all i know is i cant figure it out and it seems like they can't either and its the same degredation that the old modem and speed had, was paying for 20Mbps at 8:30pm it drops to 1Mbps-6Mbps and returned at 1130pm to normal speed and now with this new modem, ports, wires ect. even with the dual line for the new 40Mbps connection its the same result 830pm and 1-8Mbps and my latency is around 700ms on 2 different speed test sites one being Centurylinks. any help would be appreciated

New line, How are these stats? New to DSL
I finally can get good DSL from century link. no more Comcast 20/5 for $70 month, i get 40/5 for $30 now. Any issues in these stats?? So far everything has been great. Able to stream 4k just fine while still having extra bandwidth. I do want to figure out how to use a better router. Something about transparent bridge??? Still gotta look into that. Using a c1100z right now

How to almost use any router with CenturyLink's 1 Gig Internet!
So I have CenturyLink's 1 gigabit Internet. One of the biggest complaints I've seen around the Internet over the last year or so is that it's really difficult to use the router of your choice with their service.
CenturyLink provides some pretty awful equipment with their gigabit Internet service. Wireless-N router. Seriously?
The 2 biggest problems I see are the VLAN 201 issue where CL requires you to put a VLAN 201 on the Internet/WAN port of our router. A lot of consumer routers don't support this, or you have to flash custom firmware, etc. And the 2nd biggest problem is consumer routers not being able to download up to the full gigabit speed. Some routers cap out at 300Mbps - 500Mbps.
I FINALLY HAVE FOUND THE SOLUTION! Between the 2 problems mentioned above, my steps below completely solve th VLAN 201 issue.
Now I'm not a networking person, so maybe this seems pretty obvious to some of you. However, over my last year of research, I have not seen this mentioned anywhere on the Internet. I finally found this info on DD-WRT forum website by someone who goes by the username "JAMESMTL." He suggested to a user "why don't you just buy a managed switch and create a VLAN 201 on it."
I seriously thought to myself, "is that all it takes to finally fix this VLAN 201 issue once and for all?" Absolutely!
So here's the switch I bought off of Amazon "NETGEAR ProSAFE GS105Ev2 5-Port Gigabit Web Managed (Plus) Switch (GS105Ev2)" I got it for roughly $40.
Once I got the switch in the mail, it was pretty much just configuring the switch with VLANs 201 on ports 1 and 2. This way the managed switch handles the VLAN 201 issue and then you can almost use any router you want with your CenturyLink service!
Keep in mind, I think you will still have to have a pretty new and kick-butt router, because the router needs to have decent hardware so it can download almost gigabit speeds. I think it's called "NAT acceleration?" From what I've leared online over the last year or so, some routers write their firmware to take advance of this. It's a mixture of hardware/software. If you're going to try and use an old router from a couple years ago, you may run into the 2nd biggest problem I've mentioned above. Your router may cap out download speeds of 300Mbps - 500Mbps.
2 routers I have tested behind my managed switch, are Asus AC3100 and the Netgear Orbi that just came out last month. Both routers performed excellent in speed tests! I was able to achieve 900+Mbps.
Now on to the good stuff! Configuring the Netgear ProSafe GS105Ev2!
-------------------===============-------------------
In a nutshell, this is essentially how your network is going to setup with the managed switch:
switch port 1 -> The ethernet cord going from your ONT box is to be plugged into port 1 on the managed switch.
switch port 2 -> The ethernet cord going from port 2 of the managed switch will plug into the WAN (or Internet) port on the back of your router.
switch port 3 -> The ethernet cord going from port 3 should plug into your computer's Ethernet port so you can access the switch's admin panel to configure it.
STEPS TO CONFIGURE THE SWITCH WITH VLAN 201:
So what you're going to do is open the Netgear Utility program to manage this switch.
1. Disable DHCP on the switch, as your router will be handling DHCP. You'll do this by clicking on 'IP Settings' after the utility program discovers your switch.
2. Make sure the switch is on the same subnet as your router. My default router's gateway is 192.168.1.1, therefore, after I disabled DHCP on the switch, the Netgear utility program assigned the switch an IP address of 192.168.1.15. Perfect! Now the Netgear switch is on the same IP subnet as my router. Apply the settings! Now it's time to go into the switch and configure it!
3. Click the VLAN tab in the Netgear configuration utility program.
4. Click on 802.1Q
5. Click on 'Advanced'
6. Enable Advanced 802.1Q
7. Create a VLAN ID with the value '201'
8. Now click on the 'VLAN Membership' link on the left-hand side.
9. In the 'VLAN Identifier' drop-down list, select 201
10. Click on the white box right below 01 port until the letter 'T' is displayed. (T stands for 'tagged.' Port 1 is going to be 201 Tagged.)
11. Click on the white box right below 02 port until the letter 'U' is displayed. (U stands for 'untagged.' Port 2 is going to be 201 Untagged.)
12. Click on the white boxes below the rest of the ports (ports 3, 4, and 5) until there is nothing displayed in the boxes.
13. Click 'Apply' to save your changes.
14. Finally, click 'port PVID' on the left-hand side.
15. Put a check-mark next to Port 01 and Port 02. Assign them both a PVID of 201. Click 'Apply' to save your changes.
16. Configure your home router with your CenturyLink's PPPoE credentials. You can get this info by calling CenturyLink if needed. However, most of us should have received this info from our technician when they installed our Internet. Once you do this, your Internet light on your router should turn green (or whatever color it turns to indicate it's receiving a good Internet connection!)
17. Now disconnect the ethernet cord going from port 3 of the switch to your computer. You now need to plug an ethernet cord into your desktop's LAN port and plug the other end into a port on the back of your router (your desktop needs Internet access after all!)
18. (Optional Step) If you want to be able to access the Netgear's admin panel later on in case you ever need to make changes, then plug an Ethernet cord into port 3 on the back of your managed switch, and plug the other end of ethernet cord into a free port on the back of your router.
REMINDER!: If you are using a router that does by chance allow you to set a VLAN 201 on the WAN/Internet port (like a lot of Asus routers) don't forget to go and remove that now! Your managed switch will be handling the VLAN 201 tagging from now on :-)
YOU'RE DONE! Your $30-40 managed switch is now configured with VLAN 201 so you can now use ANY router with your CenturyLink gigabit Internet (as long as the router supports PPPoE, which most do.)
I know this seems like a lengthy process, but it's actually not. I want to say I spent anywhere from 45 minutes - 1 hour tops! I'm not an expert, but I'm also not a novice.
If anyone has any questions, I'll be happy to answer!
So to wrap it up. What does this work-around provide? It will allow you to use the router of your choice with your CenturyLink gigabit Internet service. You don't have to worry about flashing custom firmwares to routers. You don't have to worry about finding a router that allows you to creat VLANs on the Internet/WAN port, etc. The Netgear managed switch takes care of this!
Hope this helps!

Unable to Join Network Error
Hello all -
I am pulling my hair out on this one and have come to a dead end. I'm hoping someone here can help.
I have Centurylink with a Zyxel C1100Z modem. The service and router have worked fine for a year now. Recently, however, there are a few devices (mainly 2 ipads and a new Nexus 6P phone) that randomly will not be able to join the wireless network. Instead, they will get an error message that says "Unable to Join 'Nameofwifinetwork'". I say it's random because this happens about 95% of the time for these devices specifically, but they will work some times. Other devices (such as my iPhone), sometimes have this problem as well, but it happens much less frequently. Even other devices on the network never seem to have this issue.
Some facts:
- Some devices seem to always have the problem, while other devices work just fine (simultaneously)
- This is not an issue with the Internet - as anything hard-wired works fine
- I'm certain that the password is being entered correctly on these non-working devices
- We recently installed a bunch of Smart Switches (a total of 8 or so) throughout the house... This is (maybe coincidentally?) about when the issues started to occur
- Resetting the router back to original factory settings fixed the issue, but after setting all of the smart switches back up, things stopped working a few hours later
- There are a probably a total of no more than 20 devices accessing the wifi
- I just did a test where I changed the SSID of the network (which caused all devices to need to reconnect). The first devices I had connect to the network were the ones that were having problems before the change in SSID. These devices connected immediately without problems.
So, my problems seem to occur when having all of my devices set up at the same time, but I don't think I'm hitting a max device threshold or anything like that. I have run out of ideas. Any help is GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks so much!

Shout out for thier work on 6rd.
I was visiting family in ex Embarq territory, and as I normally do since they are not that tech inclined, "optimized"(disabled 802.11b, etc) and checked router settings at 2 different places, was surprised to see 6rd in the settings, went ahead and enabled it on both, a C1000 and C1100t (I think) both had the 6rd settings pre filled out, all you had to do was enable the 6rd then enable the LAN RAs/DHCP for IPv6..
Speeds and latency were right inline with IPv4 as they should be. It seems they anycast thier 6rd "Servers"/routers and seem to have them in decent locations.

Latest Laughable Centurylink Fiasco
I know I'm preaching to the choir, but I thought I would share the latest in the "Can't get anyone other than CenturyLink" saga.
A little backstory - I pay for bonded ADSL 20/2. I've been dealing with slow evening speeds/bandwidth exhaust for about two months now (DL speeds less than 2Mbps for most of the evening). I gave them two months to fix it, but I finally got fed up and called "support". After going through the hour long rigmarole trying to convince them that no, I didn't have a virus, and no, it wasn't my internal wiring, the support person finally acknowledged that there was an issue and scheduled a technician to visit yesterday (12/26/16).
As an aside, considering my line stats were fine, there was little a local tech could do since the problem was beyond my individual pair (confirmed with neighbors that their speeds were the same).
Well, yesterday came and went with no technician visit. No call, no nothing.
Today, I receive a notice in the mail that I am now subscribed to the "Inside Wire Maintenance" package and my monthly bill will increase by $7. At no point in the support call did I commit to that - especially considering my wiring isn't the problem. So - not only did a technician not visit - I got a notice in the mail that my bill was going up because I'm now subscribed to some bullshit service that isn't necessary as the problem clearly isn't with my wiring.
Long story short - I've gotten them to remove the wire maintenance package, but they have no record of a technician being scheduled, so I'm back to square one.
Does that sound about right, fellow CenturyLink sufferers?

[CenturyTel] ADSL Bonding DSL2 Losing Sync
Hi,
I currently have 20Mbps internet from CenturyLink and an ADSL2+Bonding connection and it has been working fine since I got it, but recently the DSL2 connection will randomly drop throughout the day (every hour or so). I can't find the reason why or cause it to happen on cue; it's entirely random. The only common thing is the stats page shows a very high amount of CRC errors right before this happens (around 1500 or so). Before that, I sit at 0 errors across the board. DSL1 and DSL2 are great speed and ping, but at random times DSL2 will drop out and cause my entire connection to drop out. It's very frustrating.
I had a tech come by today, but the only thing they did was swap out a couple modem settings and re-plug my ethernet cables in my modem. And since the issue is random, I can't show them what happens.
Here is my DSL1 stats: http://i.imgur.com/CqFb6ME.jpg
And my DSL2 stats: http://i.imgur.com/dSz1IFe.jpg
Here are the stats right after a disconnect:
DSL1: http://i.imgur.com/KuTYcmF.jpg
DSL2: http://i.imgur.com/Q2FxbMk.jpg
The power on both of them is kind of high, but notice the CRC error count on DSL2 vs DSL1 and also the uptimes. I was told over tech support that this is a modem issue. No modem was changed out, only ethernet cords unplugged and plugged into different ports. The DSL does come back on its own, but it usually takes about 5-10 minutes unless I disconnect manually via the modem status page. What could possibly be the culprit here because I can't get CenturyLink techs to look at anything besides the modem?

[Qwest] Upgrading speed - new improved line stats
I've had 1.5Mbit DSL for years now in my area (Qwest). Up until recently on the web site they showed the max speed available as being 3 Mbit, and the last time I called them the CSR said I'd lose out on my upload speeds if I changed to 3Mbit(from 800kbit to 500). I hadn't checked in a couple months, but yesterday I saw that they're offering 12mbit service at my address if I just type in my address and 7mbit if I login with my account. I checked the DSL line stats and the SNR values have changed from 32/11 to 39/18 so they upgraded something somewhere. Attenuation and power are unchanged at 38/26 and 16.8/12.5dBm. Running "adslctl info" on the modem says that my max downstream rate should be 8864 Kbps, and upstream of 1216Kbps.
Are these numbers reasonable for a 7Mbit connection? How should I go about contacting Centurylink to update my speed? I'm currently on the old 'price for life' plan so any change will terminate that. Is calling them, going into a store, or using the online chat the best method to negotiate a new monthly payment and speed? I use a 3rd party ISP for my actual internet provider, can I keep them? Or will I be forced over to centurylink.net?

[CenturyTel] C2000t - Upgrade path to mesh?
I have a C2000t (modem & router) which has served us well until recently. Changes to our home have created some wifi weak/dead spots. I considered various extender technologies - but would really like to move to a mesh network. (We have this already with Sonos, and I really like the way it just WORKS. :-)
CenturyLink reps have provided conflicting advice about whether I can just add a mesh router to the C2000t, and about how to do so. I am considering replacing with C2000t with a dedicated modem and mesh router - looking at the eero solutions.
I would be grateful for any advice or guidance in this matter.
I am on copper. No fiber available yet...but I will move to that when it becomes available.
