New to Centurylink 10mb service, Errors on modem page.
Hello everyone. Just signed up for 10mb service. I am testing CL and already have suddenlink, but here where I live believe it or not cl has lower pings for my gaming than Suddenlink. I have a couple or concerns. In a couple of the games ive played, I notice at least 1 or 2 times during a 30mins session, my ping will spike almost +20ms then quickly return.. and I do know a little bit about dsl but I took a snapshot of my dsl status page and was wondering if a few of you could chime in, another reason why Id like to keep CL is because my wife gets a HUGE discount for this service, making it way cheaper than the 50.00 a month im paying for suddenlink. I see alot of FAR end errors on my status page and just noticed it tonight, my house isnt that old, maybe 8 years, and the tech said 10mb probably going to be the best for my distance.
Thank you for your time.

[Prism TV] Finally Taking the C'Link Plunge
So...yesterday, after getting a phenomenal deal from the Chat sales rep, I'll finally be getting C'link service next Saturday, 10/29.
Since I moved into my apartment 3 months ago in Seattle, I've had a local gigabit fiber ISP Cascadelink. Realizing I'm barely taking advantage of the speed due to older equipment, and the fact I'm kinda missing having TV, I signed up for Net and Prism TV.
The rep clarified I'd be getting 100/10 pair-bonded VDSL service - and offered it for $50/mo for a year w/ a free modem & free install, and I'm getting Prism Preferred (next to the top package) with free HD, and free DVR for $70/mo. So, $120 total for a year, and she threw in a $100 VISA card. The savings were pretty substantial around $500...
Curious if anyone else in the Seattle area can chime in on their experience with this service, as they haven't made it to Capitol Hill yet with fiber. The only thing I'm leary of is going from a gigabit service to one w/ only 10MB upload. The 100 down will be more than sufficient - and I also realize I'm going to lose my insane low latency... (currently 3ms out to Facebook and others). Also wondering if they've addressed the Netflix issues that were happening a few months ago???
I've only watched the PRISM service about a year ago, and the PQ was fairly good...so not sure if they've made improvements since to the guide or offerings.

Talktous no longer responding
Hello again,
***Please read first. I have no intentions on upsetting anyone and I really don't enjoy writing this as I have other things to do. This is not meant to allow others to bash centurylink. your problem with centurylink are yours. I have posted this to have public record of progress with issues that can no longer be resolved through the chains given to me as a customer. I would rather do this before involving any service commission that would not be beneficial to anyone.***
The issues we have had over the years have usually been resolved after an email to talktous@centurylink.com (or mostly IHD Escalations people, who now say I have the wrong department). After spending hours on the phone with tech support to check if my modem is plugged in to the wall or resetting all factory defaults and trying this or that setting, I started emailing issues with speed tests logged. That was what now seems to be the good old days.
Since back in late 2014 our connection is at its best 2mbps down(I got excited when we reached 5 down with latency of 113 once), with latency being 200+. Upload speeds seem to be close to the norm at .40-.70. I sent an email to Talktous@centurylink.com on the 13th of July and have had no response.
The last few interactions let me know how much of a miracle it is to have 10Mbps here. I've also been told of the known bottleneck in Basile, La. My normal download speed at 5:30AM is .9*Mbps. Trying to check into work after hours is impossible. A lot of the time I can't load centurylink.com without finding something to do while waiting. Just in case anyone is wondering, yes, I have unplugged everything but my pc to test speeds. I was also born the day before yesterday and not quite yesterday. I now have a fresh OS install on this pc. I also check with my work laptop directly connected while trying not to drive 40 Min. away to the office when the issue could be addressed without leaving my family at 2AM.
This connection used to be fixed promptly when we could work together on it. I wish I could say the same is still true.
So, have you guys just given up? Is my only option to cancel service because this feat of 10Mbps is unobtainable? Why cant someone just tell me this instead of taking my $80 per month?
Is it possible to provide you guys with direct burial cat6 to replace a bad line? A trencher isn't that hard to obtain, so could I provide one and you guys rerun a line? I could also provide access to the easement and get dottie out, get a schedule and take off of work to allow for the pull. Are there some power issues somewhere that we could address with engineered solar backup banks? I'm willing to put up some personal capital in this to help provide what I've been paying for. I would really appreciate some sort of thought. When this connection works correctly it allows me to spend more time at home. Not much more, but enough to find it important.
EDIT*** I updated my profile to reflect that I no longer live in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Currently live in Reeves, Louisiana. Just would like to be as up front as possible.

Routing issues in Phoenix?
I woke up this morning to numerous complaints of specific pages not loading via our 50/50 symmetrical fiber in Uptown Phoenix. The same pages loaded via our Wi-Fi network which runs off of a commercial Cox account, as well as by cellular data. By the time I got in, traceroutes appear normal and everything seems to be working normally.
Were there routing issues within the network this morning (10/21)? I can't find any official CenturyLink outlet with any information whatsoever. I'd like some idea so I can determine if something happened internally that I'll need to address or if it was out of my hands.
Thank you.

CL installer could not make DSL happen. It's imperative I get it
Hello Folks
A quick Bio, I'm the caretaker and big brother to a quadriplegic sister born with Cerebral Palsy. We've just about run out of our savings and it's time to figure something out for income. Not that I haven't been trying. I recently discovered a legitimate work from home opportunity that would fit the bill since I am unable to leave the house without her to find or maintain employment.
I mention this to hopefully spark as convoluted a solution from your expertise as necessary to reach our goal.
What I need is reliable 10mbps download and 5mbps up, no satellite, no wireless, and I do need to be connected to modem or router with Ethernet cable. Employers words.
CenturyLink came out to our home and the guy was great, I think he went through every box on our street trying to get us up and running. He said we are 9000' and he just could not get the link.
From what I understand, my neighbor is 1500' closer to the CO/RT and does have 12mbps DSL. We are both on a road at the edge of town, the only cable in or out of the area are 2 buried phone cables that run past her home, on to mine and ends a few miles up the road.
I currently have WISP service but as I said, that's not acceptable to the employer. No cable TV available in the area either.
What can I do? Is there a way CenturyLink can help, or adapt something? Can I get DSL service at the neighbor and extend it by making my own DSL loop on a dry pair 1500' to our home?
Unrelated to CenturyLink, could I create an ISP in the house and use my WISP as backbone, invisible to the employer(far fetched)?
Any thoughts?
Thanks for your time.

how to discover distance to DSLAM in Tramonto, Phoenix, AZ
I am considering moving to Ironhorse at Tramonto apartment complex, where CenturyLink is the only broadband option. They are located far North Phoenix along Carefree Highway at 34807 N 32nd Dr, Phoenix, AZ 85086.
Can any current residents tell me how CenturyLink's 40 mbps / 60 mbps offering performs at this location? Or any way to know how far are they from the DSLAM ?

Moving to Albuquerque/Rancho Rio area soon, is CenturyLink decent?
Their website says they offer a 20 Mbs speed for a $29.95/mo. Do you have to purchase or lease their modem? Are there caps in place for this area? Thanks.

[CenturyTel] Will I regret buying a ZyXEL C1100Z from CenturyLink?
I have a primitive CenturyLink 7Mbps T1.413 ADSL connection that CL has no plans to upgrade! Since I don't have much bandwidth to work-with, my goal is to max-out my connection speed! I'm far enough away from the CO that I'm not going to hit 7168Kbps, but I'll take what I can get! For the past 6 months, I used a CenturyLink-branded Actiontec C1000A that has been gradually slowing down. For two months, this modem ran at 7072Kbps downstream, but now the best that it can do is 6592Kbps. Two years ago, I purchased a ZyXEL PK5001Z from CL, but it actually runs slower than the C1000A! When I have bad results with a product, I usually do my best to steer clear of the manufacturer in the future, which rules-out Actiontec and ZyXEL.
I found a handy chart in my CL account that lists the modems that CL supports! One of the supported modem manufacturers that I haven't tried is Technicolor. I tried to find a Technicolor C2100T online, but it appears that this modem isn't manufactured anymore! Aw, shucks! :(
This morning I went to a CL store to see what modems they are offering. The only choice is the ZyXEL C1100Z. I pointed-out to the the sales woman that I had bad luck with my PK50001Z, but she replied that I can return the new modem within 30 days, no questions asked! So I broke my rule and dropped $99.99 for a C1100Z!
After I got home, I checked the reviews for this modem and they are favorable. So I went ahead and connected and configured the modem, which is a snap to do! This modem is a 9" tall mini-tower that runs much cooler than my Actiontec C1000A does! During prime time, the modem connected at 6880/896Kbps, which my C1000A can't do! I might be able to get this modem to sync at a faster speed early in the morning. I'm not an intensive wifi user, but my Dell laptop connects at 72Mbps, which is the fastest speed that it supports.
So far, this looks like a good decision! :)
What do you think?

Want to purchase my own modem/router-What to get?
I am a newbie and as of yet I dont understand tech garb. I have CL and I believe my service is 40....CL supplied C1100Z modem.
I want to purchase my own modem/router. Looking for recommendations.
I notice that Netflix keeps reloading at the furthest reach in the house. So I am wanting to extend, even purchasing a wifi extender. I chatted with CL and all they would do is send me to the compatibility chart.
I want to purchase - Modem, router and extender...... Recommendations please??

CenturyLink Wireless-AC - Calix C844G new modem?
I was looking at all the modems that are available:
https://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/modem-compatibility-table.html
And for the first time I see one that claims to support wireless ac, doesn't list any location availability restrictions, and is sold by and supported by CenturyLink. The Calix C844G Modem:
https://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/modem-c844g.html
Has anyone else gotten one of these or heard anything about this model? I've been waiting for a Centurylink modem with wireless ac built in for forever...I've used an external router before but it's a lot less clutter to have it built in (and some things work better if it's built in and doesn't run into double NAT issues).

[Prism TV] prism and static ip
I'm a long time voice/dsl user and signed up for a a gigabit/prism/phone package when it became available. Today when the tech came to install he told me I could not have my static ip with prism. To figure out how to proceed I need to know why it's not possible. Case 1) the vlan that prism requires simply won't work on a static ip, 2) it's not possible with the standard modem/router but could work with a more sophisticated unit, or case 3) the hardware is fine, but programming at the central station would be more involved than the techs are permitted. Any insight would be appreciated, I should add that my dsl is currently in bridge mode to a Mikrotik router which could tag my traffic as vlan 201.

Thinking about getting service
I am trying to figure out what speeds are available at my house. When I go to the CL site they offer 20/2 on small business and a couple different options on the residential side but max is 20mb as well without Prism TV. I called in to verify things and the rep said that if I signed up for bonded service, that they could double my upload to 2mb. To me bonded service would be 40/4 no?
CL seems to offer so many different permutations of speeds. Just not sure what is actually possible.

Training at lower upload speed, lots of near end CRC errors.
So I just recently got CenturyLink out here to install a new NID on the back of my house after being on a temp line for over a year. Things were going swimmingly for first few weeks, but in the last couple days my internet has started feeling sluggish. I checked my modem stats and discovered my max upload speed has been capped at around .60mbps now instead of the former .75, and I'm getting far more near end CRC errors than usual - I'd normally see maybe a couple a week, now I'm getting several dozen per day at a minimum. What's going on here? I went and checked where the inside wiring connects to the NID, and the line doesn't look to be damaged. My line stats don't look to have changed from when everything was fine a couple weeks ago. It did look like the modem retrained a few times during a rainstorm last night, which hasn't ever happened before.
Do near-end CRC errors mean inside wiring, or could it be a problem between my house and the DSLAM? I'm not sure what the terminology means exactly.
edit: also, my download speed is training at 20mbps now. I can't remember, but I'm pretty sure it was training lower than that before. We're only supposed to have 12mbps max available in my area, which is what I pay for. Is it a modem problem?
edit2: so, rebooting the modem doesn't matter, it won't train any higher than .60mbps upload now. Did they cut my upload speed at the DSLAM?

Available Tiers for my neighborhood
'Evening ladies and gents.
So, after loads of research and a few questions here and there.. well, i have more questions ;0
I am thinking about purchasing a wooded lot to build on. Using a few neighbors' addresses, most qualify for 40 mbps service. This is a former embarq market. Being that the lot i am interested in isnt even registered with the post office, i have not been able to run a qualifier for it. The particular lot i am looking at is a corner lot and does not have a 'nearby' centurylink drop (all lines in this neighborhood are burial). The nearest post is about 300 feet up the road (on the other side of the road). Im not sure if they would decide to shoot a missile under the road and stretch a 6-24 pair for later expansion on my road and for me to tap into it, or if my drop would come directly from there. The said post 300 feet up the road is ~2000 feet from the DSLAM. Regardless, that part isnt up to me. What im getting at is im not entirely sure on where to start qualifying a wooded lot for service.
Moving on from that, i will say that for the past 5 years i have been quite comfortable with my 75/20 connection i have. I could survive on 40MBPS. But the single line tier 40/5 isnt going to cut it for upload. Im going to assume i will end up with a 2500ft loop. For this post, we will just assume my theory is on par. All of my neighbors qualify for 80mbps on business, some for 60. That tells me pair bonded is an option in the area, however that doesnt give me any assurance that i am going to be able to achieve these speeds on a residential account once i get my house built. I read about the 40/20 PB and 60/30 service. However, are these tiers even a known or seen option in a former embarq territory?
I would be devastated if CTL came back and offered me a maximum of 25/2 on a pair bonded ADSL2+ tier. Anyhow, just give me your thoughts on this, i will leave some information below on the DSLAM location, lot location and some screen shots of the cable run locations.
note in the screen shot of the cable run, the circle is the location of the closest ctl post, the triangle is where my utilities would enter (and assume that this is where CTL would either extend to, or run my line to). All of the neighbors in the 'block' of land the lot is on, qualify for 80 meg for biz and 40MB for residential. The houses on the other side of the street are fed from posts behind there houses, and which are the customers that qualify for 60 on the business site.
DSLAM address is 98 N OLIVIA DR AVON PARK, FL 33825
LOT address is 426 S Dickey Rd (i lolzd at the street name but hey, whatever.)
Thanks for reading my lengthy posts guys!

Updated Minneapolis speed test map
I re-ran the addresses contained in the map in this thread: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r29723767-Minneapolis-Centurylink-Speed-map-Including-Fiber-rollout-
(Direct link: http://www.easymapmaker.com/map/6347814ae5d946a2fcc4cd60647ca456)
New map from data gathered last night: http://www.easymapmaker.com/map/cl_speed_1-15-2015
So there are now traces of gig internet in Hopkins and St. Paul (uncheck everything but 1000 at the bottom to see them).
I have a python script that runs the addresses to check their speeds, and I hope to update the map from time to time to see the progression of CL fiber.
-----------------------------------------------
Edit 5/11/2016:
Instructions on how to run this yourself using Vagrant, Ansible and VirtualBox:
https://github.com/mtdoyle/CLSpeedPhantomJS/blob/master/README.md
I have included my giant list of addresses that will be downloaded as part of the instructions above.
Let me know if anything doesn't work!
NOTE: running this script with a large amount of addresses takes a LOT of bandwidth. Each run for me eats up somewhere between 20-40Gb of data. If your internet is capped, you might want to only use a smaller subset of addresses.

On the topic of auto-pay
I think I've figured that one out, because twice now I've miscalculated the expiration of my 'promotional' pricing and not called in to renew it before the deadline. And that means twice I've paid more than double the promotional rate for a month of service, $72 for 10M/.875
However, depending on your viewpoint, the extra $35 may be worth putting off going through the brain splitting hard sell spiel to get phone/TV/Tablet/Meh for 30 more days.
But what I'm wondering is that given I'm supposedly getting a discount for going paperless with Auto-Pay, does that mean the expired promotional rate would be closer to $90 a month for ten-meg naked service or is the paperless discount 100% horseshit?
