Not sure if I've seen this before but CenturyLink seems to have a new modem/router that supports dual band wireless and vectoring. Here's the link to the datasheet:
http://internethelp.centurylink.com/internethelp/pdf/modems/datasheet-c2100t.pdf
The FCC (https://fccid.io/RSE-C2100T#exhibits) has some nice internal pictures of the device and it's actually packing some impressive hardware. It's using the dual-core 500Mhz Quantenna QT3840BC Wi-Fi chip, same as ASUS's AC2400 RT-AC87U. For most of the rest it's good old Broadcom chips, like for the main chip it's the BCM63168 xDSL IAD SoC which supports G.Vector.
Might be time for an upgrade if I can get this for the same $99 xD

Wireless Speeds Help
Hello,
Just upgraded to 100/16 with the C200t CL modem, also using a netgear nighthawk 1ghz router. I was previously on the 40/5 plan where I was seeing on average 25/4 on wireless. After the change I am getting 92/11 on a wired connection, but only getting 28/11 on a wired connection. This is using the 5ghz connection through the netgear. Tech came out and said everything was fine and CL cant guarantee wifi speeds. I get that I wont get 100 wireless, but shouldnt I get more than 28? I would be happy with 50-60 down. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this? At this point i am getting the same wireless speeds when I had the 40, not worth the extra cash for the 100 with these speeds.

Zyxel pk5001z
I'm having terrible problems with this router.
Does anyone else use this? Is the wireless on this device horrendous or do I have a lemon? Because it doesn't seem to matter what device I use; my iPhone, desktop, whatever. I can be right next to the router and experience drops. I've been pinging the gateway and there's definitely packet loss. Resetting it doesn't really help with the problem.
Thanks for any info/advice.

C2000T dsl modem router.
I have CenturyLink 12mgbs service here in Vancouver, Wa which tests out at 13.6Mg download and .785Mg upload, with an Actiontec m1000 modem. I can buy a used C2000T modem router on craigslist. With this unit, can I turn the WiFi on and off? I will use the wired connection to my desk and would like to be able to turn off the wifi when it is not being used. Also, is the C2000T a significantly better modem? Thanks, Dave

Gigabit speeds near Seattle, whats the REAL story
saw some blogs and stuff about how Centrylink is trying to get funding to support the entire area, but the areas it already does serve apparently isnt 100% GB provided because of other ISP's trying to complain
what areas are their lines actually installed and at least has some service tho compared to the middle of the city

Which modem/router to buy?
Just got my CenturyLink service active, and this is my first DSL account (always used Cox internet). I've rented the c1100z modem from them, but would like to purchase a slightly used one to save the $9/monthly rental charge.
I see lots of used options on Amazon Warehouse Deals, eBay, and even CraigsList, but have no clue which model I should buy. Can anyone make a recommendation for me? What's the best older model with reliable range and speed?
thanks

1 year or 2 year contract?
Going back to CL for internet (only). In short, they have probably solid 40 Mb service for me and I'm resigned to fight/deal with them if there are quality issues (like the past, long story, but eventually it was solid/40 Mb). I have my own Actiontec Q1000 modem (vDSL) to use.(worked before)
I'm thinking of taking the 2 year $35/mo over the 1 year $30/mo promotion to avoid a big jump up in price after a year. I've read mixed experiences getting the promotional price upon renewal. Based on past horrible experience, I loath dealing with them. Any thoughts?
I don't forsee moving, nor wanting 1Gb fiber should they or anyone offer it as it will surely cost a lot more. I don't know but guess 40 Mb service would be lots cheaper over 2 years time.
I'd appreciate opinions/advice from people no doubt more informed than me about this.

Talktous no longer responding
Hello again,
***Please read first. I have no intentions on upsetting anyone and I really don't enjoy writing this as I have other things to do. This is not meant to allow others to bash centurylink. your problem with centurylink are yours. I have posted this to have public record of progress with issues that can no longer be resolved through the chains given to me as a customer. I would rather do this before involving any service commission that would not be beneficial to anyone.***
The issues we have had over the years have usually been resolved after an email to talktous@centurylink.com (or mostly IHD Escalations people, who now say I have the wrong department). After spending hours on the phone with tech support to check if my modem is plugged in to the wall or resetting all factory defaults and trying this or that setting, I started emailing issues with speed tests logged. That was what now seems to be the good old days.
Since back in late 2014 our connection is at its best 2mbps down(I got excited when we reached 5 down with latency of 113 once), with latency being 200+. Upload speeds seem to be close to the norm at .40-.70. I sent an email to Talktous@centurylink.com on the 13th of July and have had no response.
The last few interactions let me know how much of a miracle it is to have 10Mbps here. I've also been told of the known bottleneck in Basile, La. My normal download speed at 5:30AM is .9*Mbps. Trying to check into work after hours is impossible. A lot of the time I can't load centurylink.com without finding something to do while waiting. Just in case anyone is wondering, yes, I have unplugged everything but my pc to test speeds. I was also born the day before yesterday and not quite yesterday. I now have a fresh OS install on this pc. I also check with my work laptop directly connected while trying not to drive 40 Min. away to the office when the issue could be addressed without leaving my family at 2AM.
This connection used to be fixed promptly when we could work together on it. I wish I could say the same is still true.
So, have you guys just given up? Is my only option to cancel service because this feat of 10Mbps is unobtainable? Why cant someone just tell me this instead of taking my $80 per month?
Is it possible to provide you guys with direct burial cat6 to replace a bad line? A trencher isn't that hard to obtain, so could I provide one and you guys rerun a line? I could also provide access to the easement and get dottie out, get a schedule and take off of work to allow for the pull. Are there some power issues somewhere that we could address with engineered solar backup banks? I'm willing to put up some personal capital in this to help provide what I've been paying for. I would really appreciate some sort of thought. When this connection works correctly it allows me to spend more time at home. Not much more, but enough to find it important.
EDIT*** I updated my profile to reflect that I no longer live in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Currently live in Reeves, Louisiana. Just would like to be as up front as possible.

New Centurylink FTTH and Prism Service now need help
Hello All,
Yesterday I got CenturyLink Prism TV and fiber to the home internet service. so far I am happy with it for the most part. I do however have a very unique question. I don't want to use this Centurylink Modem for my routing. Is there anyway to somehow put it in bypass mode while allowing the internet and prism TV to come through my home network. I did some testing last night and was able to get the Internet to work. it took a bit of looking around on the internet. However, the Tv did appear to work for the first initial 20 seconds and then it would loose its connection. Anybody have any suggestions?

Those errors though
Signed a new contract couple months back. Had some disconnecting and changed the telephone line connected, and all is fine (at least for my computer). Not sure if anyone else in the house is having problems, but damn all those errors though. Could it be the port on the wall or the modem? Maybe the errors are coming from my over provision to 50/5? Personally not having any connection problems despite the large amount of errors?

[CenturyTel] Best way to check for bonded service planned availability?
Hi all,
What is the recommended method to check on planned availability of bonded service in my area? Is this info posted anywhere on CL's site? I've looked but haven't stumbled upon it. Calling the CSR gets you just a generic statement of it is still rolling out in the area.
If I get 6Mbps/512kbps normally, should I expect to qualify for bonded service?
I've attached the modem stats for review. Thanks for any insight or help.

Centurylink and FCC complaints?
Has anyone had any luck or been cut off with FCC complaints?
I filed a complaint last year when CL oversold our area and we had months of exhaust. They took forever in their replies and tap danced around the issue for months until it was resolved. Fast forward to this fall where I was fed up with the constant latency spikes, bandwidth drops and the overbilling each month and filed another complaint. I decided this time I would hold them to what they are doing and sent speed tests, traceroutes, and screen caps of my bank account each time I replied, though CL continued to reply each time with what was close to nonsense. I finally requested the FFC just investigate the issues themselves, but after my 3rd rebuttal they have essentially said: talk to your carrier directly, we arent pursuing this any further.
I guess the first conclusion is that I should have expected this. However, has anyone else had any luck after getting stonewalled at the FCC? Ive written our PSC, but we have no franchising in our state. The talktous@centurylink used to be a great help, but now thats gone too. That pretty much leaves just the front desk staff at the local office for getting answers, but they have always been the first people to stonewall any time I ask about upgrades or better service. Weve been stuck with cruddy 6MB service for 5+ years and our hardware apparently isnt even bonded capable even though our 100 home neighborhood is in city limits 3 minutes from another neighborhood with fiber.
Just not sure what my options are at this point. Maybe someone else here has ideas?

Seattle, WA - Queen Anne getting GB installed 1/20 - Questions!?
Question:
From the ONT to the router, is a VLAN required? My current VPN router cannot do VLAN tagging. Can they set the VLAN native at the ONT or remove it or is it required? If I have to toss my current VPN router what is everyone else using? I need high bandwidth so GB is a must and most VPN routers are very slow on either egress or ingress which is not an option.
Summary:
1/20 CL is coming to install GB service. I previously had Comcast and then moved to Wave when they became available. Had them for about a year and they have been good with very few outages or problems. My fiance and I work from home. I am a Cloud Evangelist for Red Hat and surely can use any and all bandwidth I can consume. Yes, Cloud Evangelist is my title and I assure you it's a real thing and not something I made up.
Currently, I have my coax feeding into an SB6190 which then connects to my VPN router. From there I split up the network to each floor of the home and use GB switches and CAT6 on each floor. Pretty simple and straightforward setup. I won't get into specifics like port forwarding, internal VLANS, routing, or QoS and such as that doesn't really matter.

Is there a routing issue affecting East Las Vegas?
Hello, I am a Centurylink customer Download speed is like 1.2 megs and upload is like 120 kbs:
I was actually going to make a post last night, but then I checked my in-game latency and I was back under 20ms. Right now I'm back at 80-90ms, which is what has been usual for the past month. I'm usually at 20ms and loving it. You could say 80-90ms is nothing to complain about, but a jump from 20ms feels like a lot. Like something is wrong and it's been weeks. The servers are in Los Angeles, currently running a tracert, let me paste the results (I ran them last night and everything looked fine):
1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 192.168.0.1
2 77 ms 79 ms 80 ms nv-74-4-128-1.dhcp.embarqhsd.net [74.4.128.1]
3 85 ms 81 ms 79 ms 67.238.110.173
4 79 ms 83 ms 80 ms 206-51-71-169.dsl.centurylink.net [206.51.71.169
5 * * * Request timed out.
6 86 ms 83 ms 87 ms 63.146.27.102
7 91 ms 87 ms 93 ms cr2.la2ca.ip.att.net [12.122.129.98]
8 87 ms 84 ms 86 ms 12.123.249.73
Hop 9 through 30 is just "Request timed out" so I'm assuming there's protection on those hops or something.
Do you guys know if Centurylink blocks websites or could that also be part of a routing issue?
Thanks for your time.

CenturyLink blocking Google DNS for Small Business Customers
I use CL at home and support a small business remotely which used CL small business (in the Portland, OR area). Yesterday I was informed by the small business, "the Internet" was out. This morning after troubleshooting I've come to the conclusion that CL has started blocking DNS traffic to Google DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4, port 53 only) at 63.158.222.114 ( 63-158-222-114.dia.static.qwest.net.). From my residential account at home, Google DNS works, using the same route through, 63.158.222.114 .
I've moved DNS support to OpenDNS at this point... Anyone else experiencing this?
