CenturyLink DSL w/ C2000TV5 Modem - Connection Question

I have just had CenturyLink 25 MB DSL installed, with telephone service. In the inside the house networking box, the tech hung a L1/L2 6C surface jack and plugged in L1 to my connection strip for the wired telephone jacks in the house. Tel service works fine. He plugged in L2 jack to the DSL jack on the back of the C2000TV5 modem, which also works fine wired, and OK, but not great wireless. While wireless is fast near the modem, it drops off by about 50% three rooms away in my office where my pc is located. Does the CT2000 need to be very close to the jack in the wiring box? Can I instead connect the CT2000 via a Cat 5 cable from the L2 Jack to a room about 50' away and plug the modem into an existing jack in that room without losing speeds, so wi fi is closer to my pc?
