[CenturyTel] frustrated in Las Vegas....

Hello everyone... I'm interested in learning more or getting some advice / suggestions for my particular case. I live pretty close to the Las Vegas strip, so it baffles me why I can only connect at 2.5 Mbps on CenturyLink's DSL. When I search for availability on CL's website, it tells me that 6 Mbps would be available. (I'd be extremely happy with 6.. more the better) So after chatting with tech support .. they send out a tech guy to see why I'm not able to connect at 6 Mbps, he explains that I live 1200 ft away from the nearest switch, and this is the fastest speed I can expect.. "until they upgrade the switch with an additional box" (his words not mine). He also mentioned that all the switches around this immediate area are already upgraded to 10 Mbits and he didn't know why mine wasn't ???? So I'm just really frustrated and confused as to why still right now when I check, website says 6 Mbps is available, furthermore why all the switches are already upgraded and mine isn't.. was this an oversight possibly ? Thanks in advance you guys, Anthony
