I've searched in here for a good option for my situation and come up dry so far.
I just switched from the darkside to Centurylink and my internet service is waaaay better and cheaper than it was before. I have what I believe you would call 40/5 service for my speeds and the salesman from CL said that I need a VDSL2 modem to get the full benefit of their service. I live in Denver where CL offers VDSL2 service.
I want to buy a modem rather than lease, because this service is great. As far as I can tell the only consumer modems that use this standard are the actiontec c1000a, the zyxel c1000z (which I am leasing at 7 dollars a month) and the mythical qwest q100.
The q100 can't be found at amazon or ebay, though it sounds like an ideal solution for me, because I have high end wireless router that I used with my old cable service- so I don't need or particularly want to buy a modem with built in wifi.
Is there anywhere to find this q100 anymore, or anything similar like it these days?
Otherwise, can I use a modem that does only VDSL vs the VDSL2? Would I see any difference in my service without a VDSL2 modem?
