I've had my ZyXEL PK5001Z for several months now, and it's been pretty reliable. For the past couple days, our internet speeds have been dodgy, which I chalked up to CenturyLink issues.
Yesterday, a laptop actually lost connection to the LAN. Rebooting the laptop seemed to resolve the issue. Everything else has stayed connected to the LAN as best I can tell. I noticed the WPS light on the modem blinking red/orange. I've never seen it do that before. While this was happening, everything seemed ok initially with my computers, except for the intermittent internet speed drops. When the light blinks, it may do it for several minutes and then go back to a steady green like normal. I rebooted the modem/router via the GUI which made the blinking light quit, but the internet speeds were still dodgy. I've did NOT do a hard reboot (by putting a pin in the small reset hole). I was trying to avoid that because I didn't want to have to re-establish the connection with all my devices.
Today, internet speeds tanked and we lost internet connection for a while on 2 wifi connected PCs, but the PC hardwired to the ZyXEL maintained an internet connection with decent speeds. At the time, the WPS light was burning a steady green like I'm accustomed to seeing. So, I turned everything off and rebooted the ZyXEL by pulling the power cord. It booted back up, and when I turned on all the computers, everything connected just fine and the internet speeds are as fast as they've ever been (maybe a little better). However, the orange/red blinking WPS light is back. Again, it does it for a few minutes and then goes back to green. It seems random, and it doesn't seem to be causing any issues with regard to internet speeds on any of the devices. (I just did a speed test via speakeasy and download was 11.46. I've never seen it over 10 and on average it's around 7 to 8.)
I have had security disabled on the ZyXEL from day one. I live in the middle of the woods with no roads or residences within miles. Leaving security off makes connecting my media player and other devices easier.
I apologize for the long post, but I thought some background was necessary.
So, what does the red/orange blinking WPS light mean? This has never happened before and I've made no changes to my settings or setup.
