Please forgive me if these are ridiculously stupid questions.
I need new internet service started in Eden Prairie, MN. I’m told that only Century Link internet is available in the place I’m moving into.
Had a frustrating discussion with a CL phone sales person when I called this morning and it ended it early (after 25 minutes!) because I had to go to work.
My roommate and I do not want a 5G modem/router in our unit.
A question I didn’t ask but now wonder is: Do we need to buy phone service (have a land line) to get internet through CL? (There’s no doubt there’s a physical phone jack in the house and it’s probably been used in the past as a land line too.) One of their questions is “Do you have a working phone jack?” Are they asking if I HAVE phone service? Or just a physical connection that would work?
I can get up to 40 mbs for 49 bucks a month. (Or up to 80 mbs for 49 bucks but then need a service call and physical line upgrade for a one time 99 buck fee and don’t want the 5G speed anyway.)
The modem I can lease or buy with 40 mbs is pictured and looks like a C4000?? but the representative couldn’t be specific about the model number when I asked. And that has 5G! Can I just totally block the 5G part of it? Or should I buy a different compatible modem/router? (Suggestions welcomed if “yes.”)
Thanks in advance for any responses!
