CenturyLink I believe is trying to run a scam or they're so inept, year after year after year when modem get returned they try to bill customers for the returned modem as if it wasn't and if you don't have your receipt then you don't have any proof. It's only happened 100% of the time to me and family members by CenturyLink. What was really annoying is inform them in writing I'm not going to pay a bill that's not corrected until I can see that the charges have been reversed, so they, CenturyLink, wrongly chargedme for the modem that was returned. Employee at The UPS Store had warned me kindly enough to keep the receipt no matter what that CenturyLink is famous for claiming they never received their modem.
