Hello everyone. I have a general question, and this question is for those of you who have centurylink fiber 40-100mb.
I am currently buying a house and moving in the first of Aug. My choices for internet are Centurylink Fiber which they offer me 25, 40 and 100mb. The other choice is Suddenlink and I can get 50mb (capped at 250gb) and 100 and 150mb. Now, I have had suddenlink in the past, and I always got my speeds. And currently I have Xfinity where I live now and its been pretty rock solid. Always good service and I am paying 39.99 for 150mb+ internet.
However I do some casual gaming, and some of the servers I played on had some really high pings. And pings were 70ms on average to a server based in the Central US and I was still living here in AR just a different part. Oh one more thing I am moving to Austin, AR (Central US) Now what puzzled me is, my friend who lives on the east coast who had xfinity, got a 35ms ping to the server, Crazy since hes further away. So I did a tracert and it was unbelievable the amount of hops it took on Suddenlinks network to get to that server.
Now the other thing is, Im on a tight budget, Im sure some of you know how that is. I already own a Zoom Docsis 3.0 modem and an Onhub wireless router. For Suddenlink the price is going to be 54.99 including tax for internet.
If I go with Centurylink its 60.00 to get the promotion for 100mb + 150 rewards card, 60.00 for tech install and either 10/month to rent modem, and or buy it for one time purchase of 150.00. So it seems upfront the cost is a little more with centurylink. Also.. My buddy has Centurylink bonded 25mb and he said its a pain in the ass to put the modem in bridge mode to use his own router. I am curious to everyones opinion and input for this route as I am having a hard time. I am curious to know hows your service been specifically with the fiber, hows the latency and what kind of Modem/router they will give me and how much trouble it will be to use my onhub instead. Also what kind of upload speed could I expect to get with the 100mb fiber. With suddenlinks 100mb its going to be 7.5-10mb. I do run a plex server but its just for myself for when Im on lunch at work. So need a minimum of 5mb.
I appreciate anyone's input. Also if there are any grammar or spelling errors, it's been a long day lol.
