I need some internet/DSL advice. I have CenturyLink DSL. My internet's been down all day. The voice service works fine and is not static-y. The DSL light on the modem is red. I've done the usual rebooting the router, moving the router to another jack, and even taking the router out to the service box on my house to check the CenturyLink side to ensure it's not my indoor wiring. The DSL light remains red.
My mom is 1/4 mile up the road from me and her CenturyLink DSL service is working fine. We're on the same DSLAM.
When I called CenturyLink to report my outage, after confirming my account, a recording indicated they are aware of problems in my area that would interrupt my internet service and that they're working on it.
My question is: How likely is it to be a larger problem in my area, but NOT affect my mom? Especially being on the same DSLAM. I understand cards go bad in the DSLAM, but if my card went bad, that wouldn't trigger the recording about a "known issue in my area" would it?
I'm ignorant about how it works, but is it feasible that a network problem would knock out one customer but spare another 1/4 mile away and on the same DSLAM?
