I recently noticed a company trenching cable in my area. They stated they were running copper for Centurytel. I called Centurytel to see if they were upgrading this area and the local manager stated they were installing exchange boxes in the area that would be capable of 40 mbps. I currently have 6/.4 I noticed today that this box (see attached picture) was installed 880 meters from my house. I'm wondering if this is the exchange box? I'm also wondering how this will increase speed? I don't believe they ran fiber optic cable but near the exchange box, the letter "FO" is lines across the road. I'm wondering if a fiber optic cable already runs past where they put this box. I also noticed they trenched the new copper line in the ditch but did not appear to run any new lines to the telephone boxes that line the ditch. Do they do this later or isn't it required. If the exchange box is capable of 40 mbps is this VDSL? I know I am currently on ADSL2+. I'm wondering what I could expect for download and upload speed at 880 meters away? Thanks for any answers you can provide. Numerous people in this area have been begging for upgraded internet for years.
