Can someone explain the 100/50 Mbps plan to me?

Moving into a new house in November (new build) which has a CenturyLink GPON terminal in a pedestal in my back yard. My new address isn't on their website yet, but when I call they tell me that 100/50 Mbps "fiber" is available. My question is if anyone else who might have this service can confirm if it is indeed true fiber, or some type of short run bonded DSL? I'm leaning DSL because of the down speeds, but 50 Mbps seems like a lot of upstream for a DSL line. They're telling me I can buy or lease a modem, but in my experience with FiOS fiber utilizes some type of business class router or simple ONT, is this not the case with CenturyLink? If so, what type of device/brand/model am I looking at? (Prefer to buy my own equipment). Just hoping for some clarification. I'm currently using Comcast and paying too much for 200/10 with data caps, and want CenturyLink 1 Gbps service eventually, but I'm wondering if I should just stick it out a little longer with Comcast until CenturyLink figures out my address (completely brand new neighborhood, I'll be like the 2nd or 3rd person moving in). TIA
