I have Gigabit fiber through CenturyLink, but I'm ready to go back to Comcast (!). The issue is that my work ISP, Integra, doesn't not peer with CenturyLink, even though they both have POPs in the Westin Exchange Building.
As a result, all of my packets go through San Jose (and Verizon and Comcast) in order to travel two miles as the crow flies. This really hurts latency sensitive VPN apps. I should be able to get a round trip time of 2 ms, and instead it's 28 ms, with high loss.
How can I pressure CenturyLink to improve their peering? Their support channels are... poor, to say the least.
