I continually get much slower internet speeds than my current service rating, and I am pretty sure it has at least partly to do with not one but two phone cables that are so old that they have no manufacturer's stamp to identify them (we bought the house this way). The part stopping me is that I am confused by how the new wire should terminate at the demarc. Currently, of the four wire pairs (8 total) only one pair (orange and orange/white) is connected inside the box. All the other wiring I've done (which isn't much) has required two active pairs. If you look at the pictures attached, you can see two mini boxes at the top right of the demarc box. Only the top is connected to the house. The bottom has two wires, a blue and white, coming in from the left side of the box, but nothing going into the house. The other wire seen in the picture going into the house is a ground, which means one wired pair is the only actual line into and out of my house. Is the second pair (green and green/white) supposed to be connected to the bottom mini box? If not, should I just replace the orange and orange/white that is currently there with the new cable that I will run all the way to the modem? Advice most welcome!
