I just picked up a new Sony Bravia XBR-55X800B and got confirmation from Sony that the built-in Netflix app is 4k capable, I went ahead and upgraded my account to get the UltraHD programming they offer, which appears to be steadily expanding. Last night I was watching one of the 4k options available and pressed the "Display" button on the remote, which showed the stream varying between 480 and 1080, mostly staying at 1080. To my disappointment, the stream never did indicate I was hitting 4k at any time.
I know CenturyLink ranks quite low on Netflix's monthly ISP rankings, 3rd or 4th from the bottom, if I remember correctly. I imagine CenturyLink is the main culprit here, despite me paying $93 /mo. for 40 Mbps service, which should be plenty capable of handling a 4k stream. There's no network congestion that I can tell. Do I have any recourse here? I'd really like to avoid switching back over to Comcast. At this point, I'm thinking of dropping the UHD upgrade from Netflix.
