Possible to remove Calix C844G?

I live in a community called Babcock Ranch which has CenturyLink as the ISP and each house has 1 Gbps fiber. However, from the looks of it, the setup they have is a GPON set up rather than Active Ethernet. I was wanting to go the Ubiquiti route and install a UDM Pro but was told because I'm set up on GPON, it won't work. Is it possible for CenturyLink to switch me from GPON to AE connection? If so, I'm not sure how to go about it with asking them. I called for the first time to ask them and they seemed to not follow what I was saying/requesting.

At wits end with Fiber disconnects

Hi All, I have Centurylink 940 Fiber service. For months I have been having random disconnects and service outages for 5-30 minutes at a time almost every day. Of course this is all blamed on my equipment as the "service looks good". I have had people out and of course its working then. I finally was able to get some logs of the outages and I'm hoping someone here can give some info on whats happening and what I need to fix it. AS more detail. I have a C3000A modem with wireless turned off. The attached logs are from the C3000A. From there I am connected to my Asus AX88U router. I have also ran a new ethernet line from ONT to modem. Thank you in advance

[CenturyTel] PL5001Z modem no dsl after service upgrade

Hi, I have an older PK5001Z modem that has worked well until this morning, even though I know it is old. Anyway, today CL upgraded my service from 15Mbps to 30 Mbps. Since then the dsl light blinks green and no internet. No filter between modem and wall jack. Filters on other phones and different jacks (no dsl( I have tried the following to no avail: rebooting modem unplugging dsl cord from wall jack and rebooting. reached to CL using chat who told me to (1) unplug dsl cord and reverse the cord, them reboot. When that did not work, they had me reset the modem. That did work. So, I have a tech coming on Tuesday. I am wondering if the modem is too old for the 30 Mbps service? When I was on chat to tell them that I have a PK 5001Z modem. I reached to their Twitter help on direct messaging asking them if they could tell the tech to bring a new modem. Just in case. Any suggestions for trouble shooting welcome Thanks, njtree

Provisioning reduced on rural DSL, any options?

Last night my internet crapped out for a few hours due to a local outage, by the time I discovered it was a local outage a phone rep had already done online troubleshooting which found "service problems" it attempted to correct. Lo and behold this morning I woke up and the internet was back but my previously overprovisioned line has been reduced to match my speed, which results in my no longer getting the advertised speed and a significant hit to my downstream bandwidth. The connection had always been stable outside of the occasional local outage, so I'm not thrilled about the loss in speed on an already slow connection. Do I have any options in trying to get Centurylink to increase the provisioning again, or am I out of luck? I'm in a former Qwest area and read that line provisioning can improve automatically over time if the stats are good but I don't know if that applies when CTL intentionally reduced it.

Home run to router/modem?

I have been having a lot of short disconnects and am considering doing a home run direct from the NID to the modem to see if I can eliminate the ancient, no-telling-how-it's-ran existing inside wiring as the problem. I have attached a pic of the NID and was hoping someone could give me some guidance as to which terminals to connect to and any other thoughts. I have a new piece of Cat5 or Cat6 that is plenty long and was thinking of running from the NID, around the outside of the house and then through a window to the modem to test before I went to the trouble of trying to route it through the house. The NID is at ground level on the west end of the house and the modem is on the 2nd floor of the east end of the house, about 50' apart in a straight line distance. My modem is a Technicolor C1100T. Thanks!

Static IP for Fiber in Denver Colorado

Can anyone help me get some better answers on this? I've just been transferred from department to department at Centurylink and have been unable to get a solid answer. I need a static IP address set up for my account. (for web development firewall issues as I'm now working at home). I'm really frustrated with the run around here. Why is it so difficult to get a static IP address set up? Prices are listed on the website, but no one on the phone seems to be able to help me. Are there any tech support people on these forums that work for Centurylink that can help me get a straight answer? Thank you so much.

I got my new C4000LG modem the other day and have changed some of the settings for more security. I am wondering two things. Oe the IPV4 firewall, should I enable stealth mode?IPV4 it is currently on low protection and I have disabled traffic into the the various ports used by games, should I change to medium, don't want to screw up my e-mail, web access, video streaming and the like. I am not a gamer. The IPV6 firewall is not enabled, should I enable that one? Thanks for any advice.

I did a search and no results were returned for Quantum Fiber. There are yards signs in my neighborhood advertising “Quantum Fiber.” We already have FTTH. I entered my address and it says not available? Q.com It looks like my landline, FTTH, and DirecTV combined billing is coming to an end.

C3000A and C3000Z routers

I signed up for Century Link internet November 2020. C3000A was purchased; landline in basement now has a splitter (?) for DSL plug-in and the landline plug-in. Wifi drops occasionally. Many calls to CL for help. They now provided C3000Z to replace C3000A. Same problems: when connecting, it looks like wifi is connected, but then typing a website, the wifi-icon shows 'warning' and then shows "no internet". Many times, I unplug laptops (happens on both laptops) and I walk to top of basement stairs, then walk down a few-or-all-steps to see if I can get a signal and reconnect. Yesterday, I walked all the way downstairs, waved my laptop around and around trying to connect, a few feet from the C3000Z. (other times, I have to power down laptop and start all over again.) CL tech this week-end said to buy an extender. The C3000Z is only about 10-12 feet from kitchen table/laptop, with the floor/ceiling obviously in between basement and kitchen. Any ideas why I am having sooooo many connection problems? 02-18-2021 My two notes back to those who replied don't seem to appear. Anyway, I just took the laptop downstairs (router is now hanging from the ceiling right under the kitchen table), tried connecting to wifi 5 feet from the router, and same thing, it connected and dropped within 10 seconds "no internet, secure", and then about 30 seconds later automagically re-connected. Haven't gone to B.B. to look at extenders. Thanks again to the helpful suggestions; one thing at a time.

Dead C4000XG

At 2AM this morning, my C4000XG died. Verified its the router because my laptop is working just fine as an ad hoc router once I got vlan tagging turned on. Solid red light as soon as you plug it in, reset button doesn't work. I got it for free with my Quantum install. Is it covered under warranty or anything? Should I even bother trying to get it fixed/replaced or just get my own router? Thanks!

Fiber in Mpls - what to expect below the line?

$65 quoted for 940 fiber in Minneapolis, for 12 months, but as usual, plenty of leeway for any total of below-the-line fees: "Additional taxes, fees & surcharges apply." If you have any specifics about line item dollar amounts or percentage rates tacked on nationally, in Minnesota, or in Minneapolis, please share. Thanks!

CenturyLink 10mbps speed- will it be enough to WFH?

Hi, My fiance and I are looking at buying a house in a remote location and the only available internet option is CenturyLink DSL (and satellite internet). CenturyLink told me 10mbps download and 1mbps upload speeds are what is available in the area. However, I work from home and I'm worried about the speed. I connect to a VPN and use Zoom daily. Sometimes up to 3 or 4 Zoom meetings a day. I would be the only user during the day (on one device- my company laptop). Would 10mbps be enough bandwidth for me to get through my day with no problems? I don't necessary need HD quality on my zoom calls, but it can't be really poor quality either.

[Qwest] CL Aerial Fiber? 1000 feet from Aerial Drop. Possibilities?

$

Looking for a CL Tech / Engineer's help here. My address, states "Advanced Fiber Technology" and yet I have Bonded VDLS2 10/1M. No news here on update/upgrades. So I'm trying to take thing as far as I can so CL might help :) Overview Along our road CL has aerial fiber feeding an additional Cabinet up the road by a few miles. I'm roughly 9000' North of the Main Cabinet/DSLAM that has been fiber fed for years. First Picture Below shows current DSLAM/Cabinets etc. I was first told, I'd never gain access to aerial line. But since then, CL has done aerial drops at each other road intersection within the past 6-12 months. One intersection is roughly 1000' to the south (Second Image ). There's additional equipment here as shown in the photo as well. In our front yard we have an aerial pole that runs over to the power poles. These power poles are also where the CL aerial fiber is running to the additional cabinet about 3 miles up the road. I'm in pretty good shape as I have Aerial Poles ready, so no boring is needed which seems to be a barrier and huge cost. What's possible with this setup? Would CL let me connect at the intersection 1000' down the road? Also, I have had a few correspondences with the Power Company regarding pole attachment if I need to run a fiber line all the way back to Main DSLAM and connect in to CL's network. Any addition work I should complete to give me the best shot at CL assisting me? I'm not looking to spend 200K by any means, but I don't mind shelling out a money upfront if speed can happen. [CenturyTel] Transparent bridging mode set to 8/35

I'm in the process of turning of the routing and wifi on Centurylink provided Zyxel PK5001z modem/router, setting in bridge mode and connecting to new, more powerful router. The Centurylink service is DSL and non PPoE in Sebring, FL no credentials are required. I have several Transparent bridging options to choose from as you can see in the screenshot. From what I've read somewhere it looks like Transparent Bridging 8/35 is the correct one. Does anyone have any information on this?

[Qwest] I get latency spikes on Fiber 24/7, will capacity managers act?

$

I have CenturyLink Fiber in Seattle, WA and am getting latency spikes 24/7, even when my connection is idle. The spikes can go up to 2000 ms, but normally doesn't "interfere" with normal browsing as packet loss is still rare (but still occurs). In this case, would the capacity managers act on this? I know it can take weeks or months for them to act if they decide to do so. EDIT: To add, I have a neighbor who is a heavy user, but they didn't have much luck with support.

Ping Spikes

For over a year I would get random spikes while using the internet. I would mainly noticed it in the evenings while playing games. After some changes while working from home, we went from using a Virtual Machine to a Laptop and a VPN. About once an hour, the ping will go through the roof for about 5 to 10 minutes and then go back normal. A friend suggested Ping Plotter and I have been using it in hopes of sending the info to Century Link to see if they had any further insight. Before now, I told them and had a tech come out, but when they checked the lines they found nothing wrong. I had posted this on the CTL Reddit and was directed to post here as well. I did chat with someone through Twitter and they had sent an escalation email. Here is what it looked like today. The only time it calmed down was the hour I was on my lunch break and after I got off work. Not sure if there is anything I could do while working, but with it still being a problem while not working I feel there could be other things done. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
