We are currently unable to provide this function. Please try again

I've been logging into my account for the past 24 hours at various times of day and I keep getting "We are currently unable to provide this function. Please try again later." Am I the only one? I'm trying to verify that a check sent to CL has been posted to my account. The last couple times I tried this via telephone it was a major time consuming hassle. By various times of day I mean every few hours from morning 'till a few minutes ago just after 4AM CDT.

Will CenturyLink ever Modernize Eventually?

Hello, I want to ask some of you your opinion on what YOU think CenturyLink is going to do when their services are threatened from the likes of Starlink or 5G? (My internet was much better at Comcast and that was 12 years ago) I have been to many Cities and countries world wide such as London, Liverpool, Beijing, Seoul, and others in America, but the worst Internet service I have seen to date are right here at my home in the United States. So when I say I would love to say good bye to CL I deeply mean it. So, 5G could soon bring me MUCH faster broadband within the next few years and Starlink will put some where between 7000 and 12000 Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) satellites with near fiber like performance at 3-20ms latency and at half the cost of CL. So, would this force CenturyLink to modernize and start bringing truly great services, or would they just ignore the threats and allow their services to go further into the toilet as people dump them in droves? Like I plan to do once I can. I am just curious if anyone here knows how corporate CL thinks and what, if anything, they could do to compete. Do they already have something that will future proof their broadband services in rural areas? Or are the old copper lines just too limited to do anything? I am sick and tired of overpaying for my 25Mbps speeds (nothing but a lie when I pay for 40/5) that can't even maintain simple Youtube or normal 1080p Netflix streams. Your opinion on CL's future plans please. I am curious. Thanks

Do my line stats prove I can get better internet???

I recently had a DSLAM installed about 3000 feet from my house. I went to upgrade internet and the local rep was told I was greater than 4000 feet away so I could only get bonded 25/2 service. My local tech stated that is incorrect and I should easily be able to get 40 mb service on a single line. I had a tech out here today to install the new bonded 25/2 service and after it was finished, I looked at my line stats. It appears to me I should easily be able to get faster service but wanted others opinions. The tech that installed my service this morning said he would try to let his the engineers know and his boss but wasn't confident anything would change. Any advice on who I can contact to get better service if they are wrong about my distance? [Qwest] Denver GPON: is it the crummy router or just GPON in general?

I recently had GPON installed at my house. They installed a Calix ONU inside, fiber thru the wall, and out to the overhead plant a few houses down. That part seems to work fine. Now, I am rather bothered by lag, after the whole Puma6 shenanigans many have experienced in DOCSIS-land for a few years now, and I found some disturbing latency that nearly mimicks this in-action on my GPON. They provided me with their low-end router, because apparently there is a shortage of newer dual-band routers in the market. I am running presently with an Actiontec C1900A ... Disclaimer: I'm on Wifi, with both the 802.11n 2.4ghz Centurylink Router SSID, as well as with an EnGenius EAP1750H https://www.engeniustech.com/engenius-products/indoor-wireless-ceiling-ap-eap1750h/ and the results are the same; this leads me to rule out one or the other AP doing it. There is also the possibility my laptop is being strange, but at my last residence wifi never had these problems. So far I cannot rule out the router itself as none of my devices currently have an Ethernet port (soon will, so I will test more in the upcoming days.) Has anyone seen such cyclic jitter with GPON before? This can also be probed with PingPlotter, as has been discussed in the Puma6 threads at length. To get this graph yourself, with any of OSX, Linux, or Ubuntu in Windows/Cygwin, use MTR as follows: mtr --curses somewhere; Press 'd' twice to toggle the view once its pinging.

Goodbye and Good Riddance CenturyLink!

I've been a captive Embarq/CenturyLink DSL customer since 2007. Since that time, I've endured countless outages, bandwidth exhausts, evening high latency, and a multitude of billing issues (I know I'm preaching to the choir here...) Since 2007, I've had two (2!) increases in bandwidth - in late 2007 I was given the ability to go from 5 to 10Mbps, and in 2013 I was able to upgrade to bonded DSL to go from 10 to 20Mbps. I know that I'm actually fortunate with those speeds when it comes to legacy Embarq territory as a huge number are still stuck with less than 10Mbps. Enter West Carolina Tel (https://gigupgreenwood.com) - a local fiber co-op that is headquartered in an adjacent county. Through the grace of the broadband gods, they have begun fiber deployment in our area and recently have begun construction in our neighborhood. They offer symmetrical gigabit speeds with no cap (price list here: https://www.wctel.net/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/SC-Pricing.pdf). Needless to say, I will be dropping CenturyLink the day my fiber order is placed and is turned on. It will be a phone call that is a long time coming. P.S. If anyone is interested I will document the fiber install with some pictures.

CenturyLink internet only for North Las Vegas -- anyone have it?

I am relocating to North Las Vegas, specifically around the Alliante Hotel area, and I'm trying to sort through Cox and CenturyLink. CenturyLink is offering me $45/month for 40Mps down (no mention of upload speed). Will I truly get in the ballpark of 40Mps? I work from home and need internet, but I basically watch Netflix and game with my buddies. This would work for all my needs. I could get a basic antenna and see if I can pick up ABC/CBS/NBC/PBS Is CenturyLink difficult with their cap? I am coming from a market with no cap. Basically, long-windedness aside, is CenturyLink a viable provider for North Las Vegas/Alliante area? I like the idea of going with CenturyLink and getting a price "for life" -- I hate haggling.

[Qwest] Question about install

I'm thinking about signing up with CenturyLink, and I have a question about what they're willing/allowed to do during the install. My goal is to avoid running new wiring myself. My computer equipment is all in a room on the north side of my house, and that room doesn't have a phone jack. The NID is on the south side of my house. Would CenturyLink be willing to run an outdoor cable from the NID, around the house, and into that room? That's what Cox did when I signed up with them since the room didn't have a coax jack either. Going through their website shows a $150 install charge for my address. I'd make a rough estimate of 100ft of cable needed to make the run from the NID to the desired location.

Help me pick out a modem, I plan on a whole home network with multiple runs of ethernet cable, I already have an unmanaged switch sitting around, but reading about vlan 201 maybe I should get a smart switch. But I guess I should pick out a modem that will allow me to access all that data, where do I start?

CenturyLink seems to be enabling Vectoring on Bonded lines.

I'm in the process of terminating my CTL line and currently in an overlap period with Comcast (Promo switching, not due to bad service). Anyhow today I logged into the C2100T and noticed they upped the provision from 40/5 to 42/5.6 so with overhead I am actually getting 40 Mbps in speed tests rather than 36-37 Mbps. In addition I noticed when checking via telnet that Vectoring state is 1 and occasionally 3. I found it interesting as I was told by some that it probably wouldn't be enabled on bonded lines.

I have a billing question regarding Gigabit service

$

My paperless bill shows the cost for my gigabit service is $114.31, then I get a charge for $85.00 on the bill that states it for purchases. I assume this is for the modem since I stated I preferred not to rent. This is the third time they have charged us $85.00. Can someone tell me how much this modem cost? It is a C2100T. Thanks in advance for any help. If anyone else has the gigabit service and you are purchasing the modem how much is your bill?

Upload Speed Great on Gig Fiber, Download Speed Not so much

Hi Folks, Looking for some help on this one, I just had Gig installed yesterday, the tech failed to a speedtest before he left but after he did, I went ahead and did one. Well download is around 300, upload is around 900. Everything is hard line connected to the C2100T and a macbook pro that has handled gig connections before. I have power cycled everything. Long story short, I called the tech and was told they are pushing gig to the modem, so what I see is what is expected with fiber and gig service. I have to say, especially given the numbers I have seen here this is garbage, and something is amiss. FYI the tech said my light levels were -19. Any ideas? How can I 'prove' this to them?

What would be the UP speed on CL's 80 Mbps service?

$

Checking every so often, my address would only qualify for CL 40 Mbps service, which required a tech to come install it. I think someone on this forum thought the up speed on this would only be 2Mbps. Today when I checked, my address qualifies for 80Mbps with tech install, or 40 Mbps with self install. Both show $45 price for life (and $150 gift card). 1. What would the up speed be on the 80Mbps? 2. What likely changed in my neighborhood that this is now offered? 3. Will I be happy with this vs. my current Comcast 60Mbps (which speedtest shows 80/6)? I've read of Netflix and other issues on CL. Thanks for any additional info!

Prism pulling the plug in our area!

Well CL and their mergers is cutting service instead of improving it in our area. They are closing the offices and pulling out the maintenance people. So, this week they say Prism is on its way out. People can stay with Prism, but no support and no promo pricing. I was going to leave Prism anyway, and go with 1 gig for life and a streaming service. I talked to a nice rep, and he got the ok from his manager for me to get the web deal, $80 per month and the $250 visa card. I asked to have the deal verified in an email. He said he would. Well, no email, so I called back. After being connected to a guy in India who had a high pitched voice that hurt my ears, he connects me to a lady who I could not hear. I told her to turn the volume up, or talk louder. Instead she talks rea slow. I told her I can understand her, she just isn't speaking loud enough, click, she hangs up on me. I call back. This time I get a lady that sounds to be in the US. I think, good, now I can get this straightened out. Well, after I tell her, I had already been approved for the deal, she tells me that can't be true! She says to get the price for life I have to be without service for 30 days, no exceptions! She the says I need a new modem and pay $85 install fee. I told her I have a compatible modem, and already have 1 gig installed. She again tells me, I have to leave CL for 30 days. So, I tell her if I leave, I will not be back! I have been with CenturyTel/Centurylink for over 40 years. I asked to talk to retention. The lady I spoke to there said she would send out the visa cards herself and I told her if things get screwed up again, I won't keep any CL services. If I don't get the Visa card I am gone. When I first signed up for Prism, I was to get a $300 card, it never came. I called up several times to check on it. Even though they could see I never cashed it, they did not replace it. That is why I asked for email verification of my deal. I just do not trust CL anymore!

2 different people on same DSLAM, one with service, one without.

I need some internet/DSL advice. I have CenturyLink DSL. My internet's been down all day. The voice service works fine and is not static-y. The DSL light on the modem is red. I've done the usual rebooting the router, moving the router to another jack, and even taking the router out to the service box on my house to check the CenturyLink side to ensure it's not my indoor wiring. The DSL light remains red. My mom is 1/4 mile up the road from me and her CenturyLink DSL service is working fine. We're on the same DSLAM. When I called CenturyLink to report my outage, after confirming my account, a recording indicated they are aware of problems in my area that would interrupt my internet service and that they're working on it. My question is: How likely is it to be a larger problem in my area, but NOT affect my mom? Especially being on the same DSLAM. I understand cards go bad in the DSLAM, but if my card went bad, that wouldn't trigger the recording about a "known issue in my area" would it? I'm ignorant about how it works, but is it feasible that a network problem would knock out one customer but spare another 1/4 mile away and on the same DSLAM?

Was recently switched from ADSL to VDSL, new speeds incoming?

I recently took Centurylink up on their $45 lifetime fee offer, switching from my existing yearly promotion and dropping my landline. Went fairly smoothly. They tried to tack on $40 for some sort of "promotion switching" fee (the tech's words) to the current billing cycle, but I was able to dissuade them at the cost of an hour of my free time. Anyway, a few days later my internet goes out, I notice a ticket on the support site. I wait it out, ticket is concluded, but I still can't connect. Another hour with a tech, turns out they switched me from ADSL to VDSL. One modem swap later, I'm good to go. But I'm also wondering why they bothered to swap me in the first place if they're still only offering up to 10mbps in my area (a tech confirmed this is the max available, "but they're always upgrading yadda yadda.") You guys think they're planning on offering new speeds in my area soon, or is there some technical reason that would explain this? I can share my modem stats later, but for what it's worth I've always received rock solid ping times and speeds that are actually a bit higher than what I pay for (in the 10-13 mbps range), which as an MMO'er is perhaps the best praise I can give Centurylink.
