CenturyLink says I never returned the equipment after cancelling

Been with CenturyLink for a few months and that's all that I needed to find out what kind of internet and customer service they offer. Disconnected and was sent an RMA number to return the modem. Went to the UPS store and returned in and was given a confirmation of dropoff with the tracking number. Little did I know that I DEFINITELY had to save that confirmation. Once I moved, I found out I was placed on a collection for the modem that CenturyLink claims they never received. Called CenturyLink, asked for the tracking number to give to UPS store and have UPS store confirm that it was delivered, CenturyLink rep did not want to help and said they wont give it to me. Then, I emailed CL support and all I got was the RMA number. UPS doesnt work with RMA numbers as I found out. This is really getting irritating and annoying. Apparently, CL never knows about what's returned to them and treats all returns as missing? Really upset.
