Centurylink is charging me for a modem I returned

I canceled with century link after moving houses back in June. When the return labels came in the mail I dropped the modem off at UPS and forgot all about it. I didn't realized they where still automatically charging me each month for the service till I switched banks and was notified through email that the payment failed. I called them immediately and explained that I canceled months prior. Fortunately they refunded the money. The problem is they show no record of me returning the modem I rented. They don't even have record of sending out the return labels. I'm really irritated that I didn't hang on to the tracker number. USP can't pull up old track number that are prepaid so I don't have any proof. I don't know what else to do. Is there anyone else who has had this problem with them? I don't want to pay for a modem that I returned.
