I've had 40M/5M DSL service with a block of 16 static IP addresses in Denver for about 5 years. 1Gbps fiber service (GPON) just recently became available in my area, so I ordered that and it was installed today. I was specifically worried that I might run into issues with it, so I ordered it as new service rather than trying to upgrade my existing DSL account. I suppose it's a good thing I did that.
They installed an ONT and a C3000Z router. I plan to use my own router, so I needed the PPPoE credentials. It was easy to extract those from older CenturyLink routers, but now they have password-protected the shell, so I could only get the PPPoE username from the web interface, but not the password.
I called the phone number for support on the CenturyLink static IP page, waited a long time, gave a bunch of info, and was told that the person couldn't help me, but was transferred to someone else, who also couldn't help me. I tried various other CenturyLink support numbers, including numbers provided someone on their online chat, and someone at their Twitter help account, and was variously told that I needed "GPON support", and given a phone number that led back to non-GPON support, and told that I have a "legacy Qwest" account, and had to be transferred, again to someone who couldn't help.
Eventually I got to someone who actually could help. I was transferred there, but purportedly the number was 800 247-7285. I was able to get my PPPoE password.
Then I asked them about ordering a block of static IP addresses, and that's when the wheels fell off of the whole plan. Despite that they will lease me a block of static IP addresses for my DSL service, they will NOT do so for fiber.
I am exceedingly angry that this was not made clear at the beginning of the process, as I have now wasted $145.45 on install and a month of service that isn't actually useful to me.
